Kyle's POV...
I laughed lightly at Barrin's failed attempt at making a joke. He has a silly habit of putting words that don't match together to make me laugh. And it's funnier because his inability to put the jokes together erupts the laughter.
However, I was a bit preoccupied with my thoughts. My mind keeps going back to the expression on Aria's face, even though I try not to really bother myself about whatever goes on with her.But this is the effect of being someone's mate. You get to feel some part of their emotions, and the sight of Barrin and I definitely would have some impact on her. I felt a soft caress on my shoulder.Barrin smiled at me, caressing my hair. "What has gotten your mind so preoccupied?"I mirrored his expression, "Nothing, I just got lost in the moment. Do you have anything planned for the day?"He raised a cute brow, "You want me to stay the night?"I pulled my lower lip in, putting my hand behind his neck to hold him dowAria's POV...Kyle had meant every word when he told me I would be locked up in the room until I returned to my senses. It's been two days straight, and I haven't gotten to see the streak of sunlight properly except through my window.Ella brings in my food every day, and that seems fair enough. They didn't think my going hungry or dying of hunger would look good in their books. If only they knew how disinterested I am in doing anything, none of them would bother about me.I have made my thinking cells redundant for days; I have no intention of making any move or trying to escape from here. One thing I have accepted from the condition of my fate is that; there is nothing I can do to change my situation. Running away is not an option.I sighed, heading out of the bathroom I had gone into to continue my normal day of sleeping, waking up and eating. Thankfully, Ella was thoughtful enough to bring me some books to read. It helped with the boredom a whole lot. And I d
Barrin's POV...My eyes scanned her reaction; she did a good job of masking whatever emotion she felt. The closer one gets to Aria, the more evident her two-wolf scent is. But it's none of my business, and that is really not why I am here.There is a need to put things straight with her. Considering her unfavourable condition, one would think she would be the most reserved. Instead, the lady remains sassy and demanding. Every bit of it gets on my nerve.It's more annoying that Kyle doesn't seem bothered about what her presence might do to us. Ever since Aria's arrival, the both of us have had to argue repeatedly, and she is always the bane of discussion. I am so not allowing someone like Aria to ruin my happiness. I shifted on the couch well, holding her gaze."I want to believe you didn't come here for a staring contest with me. Why won't you just say what you have to say and leave? I don't intend to waste my breakfast on you." She said.I kissed my teeth
Barrin's POVI could see and smell fear in her, and it made me delighted. She must be foolish to think I would let her saucy attitude slide just like that."Easy." My wolf warned.For some unknown reason, it dawned on me that I might be using the wrongest approach. Just as I contemplated what to do to draw back her attention, someone opened the door hurriedly; they must have heard the scream and shatter of chandelier glasses.The maid gulped hard when her eyes landed on me. Avoiding my eyes, she stuttered. "S..sorry, Beta. I didn't know you were here."I snort, looking towards Aria; her eyes were still darting around the room in fear. It pisses me off that a coward like herself dared to question me. It's no use keeping up with the conversation for now; I might as well come back tonight or tomorrow.But one thing is certain, I am so not letting go of my plans. She has no other choice but to bow to my demand!Taking a stealthy step towards the
Aria's POV...I still wasn't over the shock of Beta Barrin's reaction, it's been more than an hour, and I was still dazed. If Ella hadn't summoned the courage to discover what was happening, I might have become dead meat by now.That man doesn't care what his action could have done to me. The shards of glass from the chandelier could have sunk into my already weak body. That would have been horrific damage. I have a feeling he would be the reason behind my death if I ever give in to his offer.At the same time, it had me thinking. What if deciding to stay as Luna was a terrible idea? Just a mere attempt to run around the pack, even though I didn't really know what I was doing, had me locked up for days. How can I be so sure birthing the child and staying back regardless would be appropriate for me?My head ached at the thought of what might become of me. Would all of my endurance come to nothing? I really wish there was something that I could look up to for any
Barrin's POV...I woke up with a burdened feeling. It didn't feel like much of a good night's rest since I wasn't on good terms with Kyle. We hardly go to bed, staying angry at each other. I was missing him, and not just that, it bothered me that he might not forgive me easily.A knock came on my door the moment I stepped out of the bathroom to prepare for the day. Turns out to be one of the guards from the packhouse with a small packaged box in hand. It looked really fancy.My heart leapt at the sight of it, even though I had no idea what might be inside. The guard did not need to say anything; I received the package nodding him off.Opening it hurriedly, I found a bunch of freshly plucked lily flowers. He was definitely trying to be modest; his attempt at apologizing did make me feel special.Staring at it for a long while, I eventually covered it up, humming pleasantly to myself. Heading to my closet, I searched for something nice to w
Aria's POV...At first, I wasn't paying Barrin much attention since he had only returned to throw his sleazy offer at me again. I wasn't interested in listening to anything he had to say. However, his weird assertion and mumbling had me bothered. When he first whispered the word mate, I almost thought he was referring to the book in my hand.Mate?That sounded absurd, my mate was Kyle, and that is the only way it should be. No one gets two mates, but then it turned out that with two wolf scents, there is the possibility. At the same time, it doesn't sound right."Why do you have my mate's scent?" He asked me.Barrin's question had me taken aback; I couldn't seem to understand a thing. Is it possible that I have two mates at the same time? Could it be that Bree's actual mate is Barrin? Confused, I stared at him, "I have no idea what you are talking about."Even though I tried to understand it, it became more confusing. Due
Kyle's POV...The mate bond had pulled at me so strongly, and I could tell Aria was in heat. I practically breezed past the entire hallway to get to her room. My first protective instinct was to get the figure crouching next to Aria. No one goes close to my mate except me.I tackled him to the ground before realizing it was Barrin. That didn't change anything; still, I gritted my canines at him. Barrin shifted away from me, his eyes looking scared. Pulling himself up, he left the room with his head down, shutting the door.I huffed, staring down at Aria. She looked extremely distressed. I held her against my body, gently placing her on the bed. My impatient hands ripped off the cloth she had on, and she gasped loudly. It turned every of my insides; caressing her milky skin drove me mad as it almost melted under my touch.Taking off my trousers hurriedly, I tore at her panties, spreading out her legs for my viewing pleasure. Her eyes dilated, h
Kyle's POV..."Barrin!' I bellowed in shock, moving quickly to avoid the hit. But I wasn't quick enough for the content to splash on my face. "What the hell!" I lamented, pulling at my wet cloth.He stood up with a harsh stare directed at me. "did you just throw a diss at me? Oh, so you feel glad now that you have affirmed your sexuality, and it's all clear that you are both a man and a woman's man."I scratched the back of my head. His putting it that way had me thinking of how awesome I am. I was almost grinning before remembering that I was on the war field."Can you just listen to me, Barrin? Please." I begged."There is nothing to listen to, Kyle. You obviously couldn't wait to show your prowess. Here I was, sweating heaven and earth that I couldn't be with her because of what I felt for you. And right in front of me, you fucked her. You traitor!" He bellowed.I tried to rethink his statement, "what do you mean by yo
Author's POV...Three Months LaterAria laughed loudly as she chewed on the cutout apple she picked from the plate in front of her. Ella had chosen to be the clown in place of Raven as she gave them a detailed report on how her wedding night had been."He acted like he had never seen me before. I had the best of moments." She sighed dreamily.Raven scoffed, resting on her elbows. "You act like you won't be returning home to him.""You are just jealous." Ella let out a tongue at her.Shaking her head, Aria sat up, adjusting the pillow attached to the chair to help ease her back. Things have been blissful since she and Kyle chose to resolve their issues by letting the past go and focusing on their future, including their unborn child. Her hand rubbed on her growing bump; she had never felt this much happiness in her lifetime. Barrin's death had taken a toll on them, but they have been able to get through it together.She has finally settled into her duty as the Luna, especially now that
Kyle's POV...My ears kept ringing consistently as the words of the doctor resonated. Aria is pregnant; she is carrying my child. I couldn't let my emotions get in the way of my plans for the Prowler's pack. All through the march towards the doomed pack with our armour and war trucks, even when we met with the hundreds of soldiers from other packs, I didn't know how I was supposed to feel. Either elated or deflated.The moment we got to the border of the Prowler's pack, grenades were thrown in to keep them off guard. Thousands of soldiers charged into the pack like we were at a real war. I had almost doubted the other packs would keep to their promise, but they showed up, proving they were wolves of honour. Some soldiers shifted and went into the woods to catch anyone who might try to escape from there.Some of my soldiers and a few others from the various pack had entered from the east side to attack the packhouse. I had instructed the men to wait for me to get rid of the Alpha befor
Kyle's POVMy heart pounded as I made my way to the large meeting room. Ever since Barrin got buried, I have been working hard and gathering my soldiers to launch an attack on the Prowler's pack. I do not care about what would become of me after the fight. One thing I know for sure is they would burn to ashes, and my revenge will be taken. I haven't been able to sleep or eat well for days; my treacherous heart and wolf keep yearning for Aria. I am supposed to hate her; it's because of her Barrin is dead. Most importantly, she is one of the enemies. I shouldn't forget that.I stood in front of the door; the guards had their eyes on me, expecting me to give the go-ahead for the door to be opened. I exhaled sharply, nodding for them to open the large door. I gasped softly at the fullness of the room. All of the Alphas I met with at the conference a few days back, except, of course, Anthony of the Prowler's pack and Wade of the Night Walker's pack, were all seated. Their eyes keenly watch
Aria's POV...It's been three days since I got locked up in the dungeon. I got to know because of the dim light coming from the tiny window that even a bird wouldn't fit through. Whenever the day shines, I get to see it from there. I had already lost every will to fight. Barrin must have been buried by now, died gallantly and deserves every respect given to him. The dry tears pricked at the back of my eyes. I haven't been able to shed any tears for a day now; it feels like I am dehydrated. No food or water has been passed onto me.Kyle really wants to teach me a good lesson. Maybe I should have surrendered to Wade the second time he had me. I shouldn't have strived to live. If only I had a glimpse of what would become my future, I definitely wouldn't have returned here. Kyle and Barrin would have lived happily ever after with me gone.Ella is the only one who got to sneak in to see me; she said Raven isn't in the right state of mind to face me at the moment. I don't blame her either;
Kyle's POV...My heart felt cold, and I could say that I didn't feel any kind of emotion. But I know it's not true; I am only this way because I let the tequila taunt me. The memory of Barrin's cold body and the holes caused by the bullets on his corpse made me want to pull an attack on anyone involved in his death. It's more heartbreaking to learn that my Aria was involved in it. We were fine; why did she have to be a part of my misery?I will never forgive myself for Barrin's death; he wouldn't have ended up with this kind of fate if I didn't choose to love Aria. We would be living in perfect harmony and have nothing to do with the Prowler's pack. I have avoided them for years and steered clear of that doomed pack, but I don't think I can let this slide any longer.I felt a sudden burst of anger inside me when I remembered Aria's confession about being a biological member of the devil pack. As much as I love her, I do not intend to return on my promise to end any soul relating to th
Aria's POV..."I think she has regained consciousness," I heard a voice say over me.I blinked slowly, trying to adjust my eyes to the beaming light. I felt the spot I was lying in; it was a bed. Squinting my eyes slowly, it appears to be my room. I tried to remember how I got here, and then a flash of Barrin bleeding and me trying to help him back rushed through my head. Like someone being pricked by a nail, I jumped off the bed."Hey! What are you doing?" Devon's sturdy hands gripped both of my arms. "You can't just get up like that."It took me a moment to get myself together; I shook my head hurriedly. "What is going on? How did I get here? Where is Barrin?"Devon looked towards the other man in the room and gestured for him to leave us. "You will need to sit down, Aria." He implored."No, I need to know where Barrin is. Why won't you take me to him?" Tears welled up in my eyes again."I don't know how to say this to you, Aria. I just need you to know that it isn't your fault...."
Aria's POV...I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling cold. My eyes lingered on the entrance of the Prowler's pack border; it did look horrifying, but I was determined to make my way in without a doubt. I stood by a big oak tree, watching the pack soldiers walk back and forth with their eyes keenly watching the environment like a hawk. This is my chance to introduce myself and go in.I hid by the corner of the road leading directly to the pack to wait for Barrin. He sounded really worried on the phone. It's obvious not even Devon can hold himself back from exposing me. I checked my wristwatch. If I wait here any longer, the time planned for my return to the Moonstone pack will be stalled. I can't have Kyle knowing about my move before I get the chance to tell him myself.When his call came in, I was still cramped up in the truck that brought me here. Until I found a good hiding spot to make the call, I didn't answer it. Stretching my neck a bit again, the border came in sigh
Author's POV...Devon shifted uncomfortably in the chair; he kept heaving every passing second. He still hasn't heard from Aria, he had tried her line, but she wasn't picking. That is, if her phone hasn't been seized. It had been thirty minutes since the truck she was in left, and from his calculations, she should have arrived at the Prowler's pack border.Barrin couldn't help but notice the change in Devon's mood, he kept mumbling to himself, and since he returned from checking quickly on his mother, he hadn't been himself. Since he hates being nosy, Barrin thinks it's best if people tell their feelings on their own accord. Even though his friend's reaction to every passing second was distracting him, he didn't say anything.Checking his wristwatch for the umpteenth time, Devon cursed under his breath. "I can't do this!" He let out."What?" Barrin inquired tiredly, dropping the pen in his hand. "Why are you acting nuts?"Shutting his eyes tightly, his lip
Aria's POV...My heart paced rapidly as I watched Kyle get ready to leave. I'm trying my hardest to not give my thought away as my palm greased the spot he had marked me. There is still little burning sensation from it. I have to be more careful with my thoughts until he leaves to avoid him getting a whiff of my intention. His mark has brought us closer, and our minds are more linked now than ever. I can only hope I don't get into trouble until we both return to the pack."Someone looks unhappy to see me leave." He teased, cupping my face in his palm.Without a word, I leaned into his chest, placing my ear on his beating heart. It feels almost the same as mine. I guess we will both miss each other a bit too much."Don't take too long before you return," I warned.Kyle chuckled; the sound tickled my ear. "yes, ma'am. I promise to be back as soon as it's all over. But you have to promise me you would take care and not wander around." He said, holding me forw
