Benita’s POV
“Mate…?” I shuttered in disbelief as I stared at the cord which was intertwined with Nathan’s wrist. Stunned, I moved my gaze away from the cord and looked up at Nathan, who seemed shocked and in disbelief. His eyes moved from the cord and were fixed on me as he glared at me. “No! This can't be possible!” he yelled, frantically shaking his head and trying to break the cord from his wrist, but it remained intact. Loud gasps echoed around the field as murmuring filled the air. Everyone present couldn’t believe it. They couldn’t believe I was the one mated to Nathan instead of my sister. “This is some kind of joke!” Nathan spat, moving closer to me, his eyes blazing with anger. “What did you do? What witch did you visit to make this happen?” he yelled, gripping my arms so hard that I winced in pain. “Tell me! Tell me!” he demanded in an outburst, his eyes filled with disgust, as if he had just realized he was mated to something vile. “Speak! Speak!” Nathan urged, his grip on me tightening. “Let go of me!” I pleaded, trying to pull away from his grasp, but Nathan’s hold only tightened. His fingers dug into my skin, the pain sharp enough to bring tears to my eyes. He was losing control, and I could feel it in the way his body trembled with rage. “I didn’t do anything!” I shot back, my voice shaking with both fear and anger. “You think I wanted this? You think I wanted to be mated to you?” I spat bitterly. I would never have wanted to be mated to Nathan, of all people. He was practically in love with my sister and saw me as nothing more than a shadow of her. Why would I want a man like that as my mate? His eyes flared with anger, my words only fueling the rage inside him. “Liar!” he hissed, shoving me back so hard that I stumbled, barely catching myself before I fell, but the magical cord still held firm. It would only vanish if Nathan accepts or rejects me. “I will never accept you as my mate. Never!” Nathan spat with hatred, his voice echoing through the stunned silence. “Nathan, stop!” a voice cried out. I turned to see his father, Alpha Richardson, stepping forward, his face a mix of confusion and concern. “This isn’t the way. You need to calm down.” Nathan’s eyes flicked to his father, “I won’t accept this!” His voice cracked with desperation. “She’s not my mate. She can’t be.” I swallowed hard, blinking away the tears that threatened to spill. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry. “Get up, don’t show weakness,” my wolf urged, and slowly, I got to my feet. Nathan stared at me, his chest heaving with heavy breaths. For a moment, just a fleeting second, I saw the vulnerability behind the anger. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced with the same disgust he had worn since the cord first appeared. “I reject you…” “You can’t reject her,” Alpha Richardson interrupted, his voice authoritative, and my eyes widened as the murmurs of disbelief spread through the crowd. Nathan looked away from me and narrowed his eyes at his father. “What are you saying, Father? You don’t expect me to be mated to her? No way!” Nathan yelled, but Alpha Richardson’s expression remained blank. “You can’t reject your mate, Nathan. You’re going to be an Alpha. What example would that set for your followers? That it’s acceptable to reject their mates too?” Alpha Richardson asked, and Nathan shook his head in disapproval. “No, Father, please, I can’t accept her. She can’t be my mate…” Nathan paused and moved to where Nina stood, her face streaked with tears. “I love Nina. I want to be with her, and besides, she has no mate. Please, Father,” Nathan begged, on the brink of tears, and my heart clenched. It hurt so much to see my mate so desperate not to be with me, but with someone else. Silence hung in the air as everyone waited for Alpha Richardson’s response. My heart raced, and a knot formed in my stomach. “No,” Alpha Richardson declared, and my eyes widened, as did everyone else’s. “Nathan, you are going to accept Benita as your mate, and you are going to mark her right this minute. That’s what a responsible leader should do.” Nathan’s eyes widened in shock, his body stiffening. For a moment, he looked like a child lost in a storm, torn between duty and desire. “No…” he whispered, his voice barely audible, his voice cracking with emotion. His gaze darted between me and Nina, who was sobbing uncontrollably, her hands covering her face. Every part of me wanted to run, to escape this nightmare. Being mated to someone who despised me was not the future I had imagined. “I can’t do this,” Nathan said louder, shaking his head again, his voice trembling. “This is wrong, Father! I love Nina! How can you ask me to do this?” Alpha Richardson’s expression hardened, his eyes cold and stern. “As an Alpha, Nathan, your duty comes first. Love is a luxury. You must accept your mate, or you risk losing everything you’ve worked for.” Nathan’s face twisted in pain, and his fists clenched at his sides. “I don’t care!” he shouted. “I’d rather give up my title than be forced into this!” The crowd gasped, murmurs rising once more. “Nathan!” Alpha Richardson barked, his voice booming with authority. “Do not speak such foolishness. You are going to be an Alpha. You do not get to choose love over duty.” The pain in my chest was unbearable, but I kept my face composed, refusing to let anyone see how deeply his rejection was affecting me. “I won’t do it,” Nathan finally whispered, his voice broken. He turned to Nina, who had stopped crying and was now staring at him with wide, hopeful eyes. “I can’t… I can’t lose her.” Alpha Richardson’s eyes narrowed, and a dangerous silence settled over the field. “Then you leave me no choice, Nathan. If you refuse to accept your mate, you will no longer be the future Alpha of this pack. I will strip you of your title.” Nathan’s head snapped toward his father, his eyes wide with disbelief. “You can’t be serious.” “I am,” Alpha Richardson replied coldly. “A leader who cannot put the pack’s needs above his desires is unfit to lead. You are no exception.” Nathan’s chest heaved as the reality of his father’s words sank in. His eyes locked with mine for the briefest of moments, and I saw the anguish in them, but also the hatred, the disgust. He blamed me for all of this, for ruining his perfect life with Nina. I swallowed hard, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill. I didn’t ask for this, either. I never wanted to be the reason his world fell apart. Why would the Moon Goddess do this? “I will never forgive you for this,” Nathan spat at me, his words filled with hate. “You’ve ruined my life.” Before I could respond, Alpha Richardson stepped forward. “Enough, Nathan. You will mark your mate now, or you will leave this pack as nothing more than a rogue.” I gasped and glanced around, meeting the eyes of some pack members. Most of them stared at me with disapproval and hate. It was clear I was never their choice for a future Luna. I looked back at Nathan and saw he was on the verge of breaking down, his body trembling with suppressed rage. His eyes flickered between Nina, me, and finally, his father. “Fine,” he said through gritted teeth, his voice filled with hatred. “I’ll do it, but you, Benita, will regret this.” The threat in his voice sent chills down my spine, and I knew he meant every word. A tear slipped down my cheek despite my best efforts to hold it back. I knew what was coming next. Nathan stepped toward me, his expression cold and lifeless as he reached out to grab my wrist. The magical cord glowed faintly as he pulled me toward him, his grip harsh. I closed my eyes, trying to steel myself for what was about to happen. This wasn’t how a mating was supposed to be. It wasn’t supposed to be filled with hate and resentment. But this was my reality now, and there was no way I could escape it. Nathan leaned in, his breath hot against my neck, and I braced myself for the mark. The crowd was silent, everyone holding their breath, waiting for the inevitable. “Forgive me, Benita,” my wolf whispered, her voice soft and sad. “I never wanted this for us.” And then, with a sharp pain, Nathan’s fangs sank into my skin, and our fate was sealed.Benita's POV A strange feeling of pain mixed with pleasure coursed through me as Nathan’s fangs sank deeper into the crook of my neck. The pain was intense, but the slight sensation of pleasure was so fascinating that I couldn’t help but close my eyes as a soft moan escaped my lips. I wasn’t sure if I was mistaken or if my ears were playing tricks on me, but I could swear I heard Nathan let out a pleasurable groan. When he finally pulled away, my neck felt cold without his bite, my body throbbing with an ache I didn’t fully understand. With panting breaths, our gazes interlocked. His fangs were still extended, and drops of my blood glistened on his lips. He stared at me with pure hatred in his eyes, wiping the blood away before spitting it to the ground as if I’d poisoned him. My stomach twisted. “Come on, everyone, a round of applause,” Alpha Richardson demanded, and the stunned pack members were forced to clap for us. My eyes remained on Nathan as his stayed on me. I could see t
Nathan's POV I glared into her eyes which was filled with fake tears as hate, and anger surged through me. I wished I could wrap my hands around her throat, make her feel just a fraction of the pain tearing me apart. But I couldn’t—not with half the pack watching. Gritting my teeth, I glared at her one more time before shoving her away, making her stumble to the ground, her butt hitting the dirt. Turning around, I ran out of the field, ignoring the loud calls from my father. I kept running, running until I reached the mansion. I stormed inside, bolting up the stairs and straight to my room. Once inside, I slammed the door shut and I began kicking everything in my way. I kicked over the small coffee table, sending it crashing into the wall, the sound of breaking wood doing little to calm the storm inside me. My chest heaved with anger as I ripped the couch cushions off, throwing them across the room. They hit the mirror, shattering the glass into pieces that fell to the floor like
Benita’s POVAs I glanced into the mirror, I didn’t know what to feel. Today was supposed to be a happy day for me—it was my wedding day. I was getting married to my mate, a day I’d envisioned countless times in my head, staying up late as a young girl, giggling and fantasizing about it. I imagined myself in a beautiful white dress, being escorted down the aisle to meet my mate, who would be waiting for me with a big smile on his face. He’d look at me with so much love, and I’d feel special, cherished. That was how I imagined it. But alas, that was just a fantasy.“Benita, are you okay?” Luna Anita’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Blinking, I returned to the present, noticing her standing behind me with a concerned look on her face.“Are you alright?” she asked again, her eyes filled with worry.Slowly, I stood up and turned to face her, my heart racing with fear. “I don’t think I should go on with this marriage,” I admitted, feeling a wave of unease wash over me. The thought of
Benita's POV After the draining ceremony and endless whispers, I retreated to my chambers, barely able to breathe under the weight of the day’s events. My heart was heavy, and my mind raced with worry about what tonight would hold. I knew my role now, the duty expected of me as Luna and Nathan’s wife, but the thought only filled me with fear. A gentle knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts, making me startle. I took a deep breath, steadying myself before calling out, “Yes? Come in.” Two maids entered, bowing slightly as they stepped inside. One of them, with a polite smile, approached me. “My queen, we are here to prepare you for the evening. Alpha Nathan has requested that you join him, and we’ve been asked to assist with your bath and help you dress.” The words sent a chill through me, though I nodded in silent acknowledgment. This was expected; he had already informed me about it—a moment I had dreaded. The maids led me to the adjoining bathroom, where a tub of steaming
Benita’s POV“Don’t make me repeat myself, Benita. Get on the bed,” his angry voice echoed in the room, making my body tremble with fear. My wolf, Olivia, growled inside me as she could feel my pain and fear.I looked up to hold his gaze and was terrified when I noticed his green eyes were now gray and filled with rage. Fear gripped me tightly, and I wished I could run away, run away from him and this bond, but alas, I was trapped within this marriage.Filled with embarrassment and shame, I wrapped my arms around my chest and moved over to the bed with shaky legs. “Turn your back and be on all fours!” he ordered, and my heart raced faster, but I obeyed and knelt on the bed, my back turned against him.Hot tears fell freely down my cheeks as my whole body trembled with fear. I was so terrified, so scared of what he would do to me.Soon, I heard his footsteps behind me, and then I felt his weight pressed on the bed, his presence so close that I had to swallow the bile rising in my throa
Alpha Nathan’s POVI heard a loud thud at my door just after she closed it, and despite how much I wanted to ignore it, I just couldn’t. Forcing myself up on my feet, I walked over to the door, pushed it open, and wasn’t surprised to see Benita lying on the floor, unconscious. A frown spread across my face as I stared at her unconscious state.“Mate! Nathan, do something, you dick!” my wolf yelled at me, but I didn’t move an inch; rather, I just kept staring at her body on the floor. Thoughts buzzed in my head—the thought of her not waking up; at least that would set me free from her. But my wolf growled loudly again as he raced worriedly in my mind.“Nathan! What is this? Pick her up!” my wolf pleaded, but I gave deaf ears to his words and shut the door. Settling back on the couch, I picked up the glass of whiskey and took a sip of it as I tried to ignore the fact that Benita was lying unconscious just outside my door. I didn’t want to care about it; I didn’t want to care if she live
Benita's POV My eyes were swollen from crying all night. It was already a new day, and I hadn’t closed my eyes even once throughout the night. My whole body ached, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the pain in my heart. I felt miserable, and for a moment, I thought of dying. I wished I had died in place of Nina—it would have been better than living this life of horror. A soft knock sounded at my door, but I refused to respond. After a moment, the door slowly opened, and I lifted my head from the pillow to see Luna Anita entering, her face filled with concern. She walked over to my bed, sitting beside me, and gently began to stroke my hair. A soft sigh escaped my lips at her tender gesture, and for a fleeting moment, I felt a spark of comfort, knowing that someone truly cared. “How are you, dear?” Luna Anita asked softly, but I couldn’t bring myself to answer. My lips wouldn’t move, and it felt as if I had lost my voice entirely. Not getting a response from me, Lun
Benita’s POV I picked up the paper from the floor, my hands trembling as I scanned the bold heading: Rules, Regulations, and Duties boldly written on the heading of the paper. I furrowed my brow and met Nathan's cold gaze. His face was unreadable, the cigar in his hand releasing a thin trail of smoke that filled the room with a harsh, bitter scent. “I believe you went to school, so read it out,” Nathan demanded, his voice devoid of emotion. I swallowed hard, feeling a lump in my throat. My wolf stirred uneasily, urging me to show strength, but I felt so small in that moment, like a helpless pawn in his twisted game. With a shaky breath, I began to read aloud, forcing my voice to remain steady even though my insides quaked. “Rule one,” I started, “Never address me without using my title.” Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he leaned back in his chair, observing me with impatience and satisfaction. I continued, feeling a pit of dread forming in my stomach. “Rule two: seek
Lagertha’s POVToday was the Goddess Festival, a night where wolves gathered under the full moon to celebrate the Moon Goddess. It was one of the biggest events in every pack, and for me, it would be the night I finally unite Oscar and Lila. My plan was simple. After dressing in one of the elegant gowns Beta Oscar had gifted me, I tied my hair into a ponytail and slipped on my footwear. Taking one last look at my reflection, I whispered to myself, “You can do this.” Tonight, I was going to tell the family the truth. Not the whole truth, but just enough. They might be disappointed, but it was better than living a lie.“Do you think it will go well?” my wolf’s worried voice echoed in my head.“Hopefully, it does,” I sighed, grabbing the white envelopes from my bed. Inside each one was a letter explaining that Oscar and I could not marry. I made sure to take the blame, writing that it wasn’t Oscar’s fault—that I had begged him to marry me, so I wouldn’t remain an outcast. But I couldn’t
Lagetha's POVI needed to speak with Beta Oscar about our next plan, so I decided to meet him in his room. I knew he had been there all day, probably drowning himself in work.Reaching his door, I knocked, but there was no response. I knocked again, and this time, I heard the sound of slow, heavy footsteps from inside. When the door finally swung open, Beta Oscar stood before me, looking like a shadow of himself. His hair was a mess, as if he had been running his hands through it repeatedly. His eyes—though dry—were swollen, evidence that he had been crying. For a moment, I couldn’t speak. I didn’t know what to say. When he realized I wasn’t going to, he left the door open and turned away, silently inviting me in.Confused, I stepped inside and closed the door behind me. My gaze landed on him again—he was now seated on the couch, a glass of whiskey in his hand. My stomach twisted when I noticed the empty bottles scattered on the table and how the room smelled of alcohol. My concern de
Alpha Theo’s POV “What did you just say?” I asked, barely able to believe what Lila had just told me. She shrugged. “I accepted Dominic’s proposal.” “No… you didn’t.” I cut her off, my voice sharp with disbelief. I wanted to say more, but I didn’t want anyone eavesdropping on our conversation. Without another word, I took her hand and led her toward my study. Once inside, I shut the door firmly and turned to face her. “What do you think you’re doing?” I asked, my voice low but demanding. “What I should have done a long time ago,” she replied blankly, folding her arms across her chest. “Dominic? You don’t even like him. He’s been chasing after you for years, and you’ve never shown the slightest interest. What changed? Is this because of Lagertha and Oscar?” I asked, already knowing the answer. Lila swallowed hard, her gaze shifting away from me. She seemed lost in thought for a moment before she finally spoke. “It’s useless to keep hoping that one day he’ll love me when it
Alpha Theo’s POV I led her deeper into the woods, the crunch of leaves beneath our feet the only sound between us. When we reached a clearing, I finally turned to face her, a smirk playing at my lips. Lagertha stood tense, her expression nervous, her arms wrapped protectively around herself. The fear in her eyes sent an unexpected pain through my chest. Did she truly think I would hurt her? “Why did you bring me here? So you can kill me in silence?” she asked, her voice steady despite the fear flickering in her gaze. I scoffed, slipping both hands into my pant pockets. “And yet, you followed me?” She frowned and parted her lips to say something, but no words came out. Rather, she kept staring at me with that look of anger, but even in her angry state, I found her so cute! “Why are we here?” she asked finally. I tilted my head. “To see your wolf.” Her frown deepened. “I’m not showing you my wolf.” I scoffed and took a step closer. “Yes, you will. We have a deal, remember?” I s
Alpha Theo’s POVI could see the terrified look in her eyes as she waited for my command. There were so many things I wanted to demand of her—to ask her to call off her marriage with Oscar. Why would she want to marry a man she didn’t even love? I wanted to ask her to stop taking my breath away, to stop smelling so intoxicatingly alluring that I couldn’t control myself or my wolf. I wanted to tell her to stop making me feel this way—the unbearable urge to claim her, to mark her.For God’s sake, I was supposed to hate her. What the hell was happening to me?Composing myself, I looked at her, considering my next move. I needed to give her a task, something she couldn’t refuse. Then, something clicked in my mind. Her wolf.I hadn’t seen her wolf yet. And damn it, my wolf was growing restless, desperate to see it.“In twenty minutes, leave the mansion and wait for me outside,” I ordered.Lagertha’s brows furrowed. “Why?”I scoffed. “You’ll find out later. Now, unless you want to stand the
Lagertha’s POV “I'm so happy for you, Leggy. You deserve to be happy." Mother Lagertha had been buzzing with excitement all morning as we prepared breakfast. She seemed absolutely thrilled, going on and on about the wedding—about how Beta Oscar would be the perfect husband for me. I felt bad, knowing all of this was just an act. “Lagertha, Alpha Theo requests that you bring him a cup of coffee in his room.” One of the guards’ voices cut through my thoughts. A frown tugged at my lips, and my wolf huffed inside me. With a heavy sigh, I prepared the coffee just the way Theo liked it, grabbed the tray, and left the kitchen. When I reached his door, I hesitated before knocking, my pulse quickening as his intoxicating scent wrapped around me. “It’s open,” his deep voice called from inside, softer than usual, none of the usual harshness in his tone. Taking a steadying breath, I pushed the door open, stepped inside, and closed it behind me. Turning around, I met him standing at the
Lagertha’s POV I took a deep breath and stared at my reflection in the mirror. “You can do this, Lagertha,” I whispered, trying to steady my nerves. My wolf stirred within me. “Calm down. It's just a family dinner,” she soothed. But she was wrong. This wasn’t just any family dinner. It was my first time sitting at the same table with Oscar’s parents, Theo’s parents, Oscar’s siblings, Theo’s siblings, Theo and Oscar—all in one room. And I had to pretend to be in love with Oscar, right in front of Alpha Theo. My mate. It was a huge task. “You can do this," my wolf encouraged again. I exhaled deeply, forcing myself to push aside my emotions. Straightening my dress, I left my room and walked down the long hallway. My heart pounded with each step. The mansion was eerily quiet, aside from the faint clinking of dishes coming from the dining hall. The scent of roasted meat and warm spices filled the air, but it did nothing to settle my nerves. As I reached the entrance of th
Alpha Theo’s POV Lila stiffened beside me, her discomfort obvious in the way she tensed. I could feel the weight of her pain pressing down on both of us, but she kept her expression carefully blank. I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay composed, to not let my own emotions betray me. “They had to step out,” I said evenly, keeping my voice devoid of the frustration clawing at my insides. “Oscar had some business to handle, and Lagertha went with him.” It was a lie. I had no idea where they were. Mother’s brow furrowed slightly, but she nodded. “I see. Well, we’ll have to see them soon. The wedding preparations must be keeping them busy. I heard it’s happening in two weeks,” Mother announced, and my brows furrowed. “Two weeks?” I asked in panic, unable to control it. Mother furrowed her brow and gave me a suspicious look. “Yes… do you have a problem with that?” she asked, and where I stood, my heart sank. My furious wolf howling loudly in my head. Not getting any response
Alpha Theo's POV I stood on the balcony, gripping the railing so tightly as I watched Lagertha step into the car with Oscar. Everything in me urged me to go downstairs and pull her away from him, but I forcefully forced myself to remain in place as I watched the car drive out of the mansion. “Do something,” my wolf growled angrily in my head, and I wished I knew what to do, but I was confused. Oscar had put me in a tight corner—I was cornered. The sound of my door creaking open pulled me from my thoughts. I turned, my chest tightening when I saw Lila walk in. Her green eyes—identical to mine—were red and swollen, her usually radiant face pale and lifeless. My protective instinct kicked in, and I rushed to her, gently holding her arms as I studied her pale face. “Lila, why are you crying? What happened?” I asked worriedly but also angrily. Lila’s tears had always been my weakness, and seeing her like this, utterly broken, shredded me from the inside out. Lila broke into a loud sob
