The days until her eighteenth birthday felt like they were moving slowly, each one dragging her through the same hellish routine at school.
Every morning, Lily counted down the hours, telling herself that soon, it would all be over. Freedom was so close, she could almost taste it.
She had spent a lot of time thinking carefully about her escape, and now, only days remained. But as her birthday approached, a feeling of unease had started to enter into her thoughts.
“Lily, you’re sure about this?” her best friend, Maya, asked as they sat under a large tree at the edge of the school courtyard during lunch.
It was the only place people didn't throw their food at her, unlike in the cafeteria where they constantly poured insults and various things on her body.
At least she was with Maya, the only person in the entire pack who treated her with any kindness. She had been there since they were kids, standing by Lily even when the bullying became unbearable.
Lily looked at her sandwich. Her resolve to escape increasing.
“I don’t have a choice, Maya. I can’t stay here anymore. Not with them.” She looked at the school building for a moment, where she knew Lucas and Liam were likely planning their next round of insults.
“I get it, I really do,” Maya said, her voice soft and full of sympathy. “But running away? It’s dangerous. You won’t have the pack’s protection anymore. What if something happens to you?”
Lily sighed. She knew Maya was right to be concerned, but she also knew that staying wasn’t an option.
"The pack stopped caring about me a long time ago" She replied.
The pack had never protected her, not when her father was exiled and not when the Alpha twins made her life a living nightmare.
“It’s the only way,” Lily said. “Besides, I’ve been saving money. I have enough to get by for a while. I’ll figure it out.”
Maya wasn't convinced yet. She cared sincerely for her best friend's wellbeing.
“And where will you go?” she asked.
“I don’t know yet. Maybe a small, quiet town, somewhere far from here. I’ll start over there, and forget this place entirely.” Lily tried to sound confident, but the truth was, she had no idea what life outside the pack would look like.
She had only known this world, but she’d rather take the risk than stay and suffer.
Maya didn't want her to go but she has seen how much suffering Lily has been enduring for years. It was the best thing to do.
“Just promise me you’ll be careful and always call me” Maya said.
“I promise,” Lily said, a smile appearing on her face as she hugged Maya. She was the only person she would miss.
The bell rang and lunch ended. Lily stood up and carried her backpack over her shoulder.
“I’ll be fine, Maya. I just have to make it through the next few days, and then I’m out of here" She said, trying to act strong so Maya won't worry.
Maya gave her a weak smile.
“Just don’t do anything crazy, okay?” She adviced.
“I won’t" Lily hugged her once again.
As Lily walked back to class, her heart felt heavier than usual.
Maya was her only friend, the only one who had ever stood by her. Leaving her behind was one of the hardest parts of her plan, but she couldn’t stay for anyone.
The pack had made her feel small, unworthy of friendship, love, or even basic respect. She had to leave for her own sake.
Lily sat through the rest of the afternoon classes barely paying attention to the lessons, mostly because Lucas and Liam kept throwing papers at her.
When the final bell rang, she packed up her things and headed toward the school main door. She was halfway down the hallway when a voice stopped her.
“Leaving so soon, Wolf Trash?”
Lily turned around to look at Liam. She could see his hand was around his girlfriend, Lexa, who was laughing as she watched his mock her.
Lily kept walking, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a reaction.
“Aw, come on, Lily,” Liam called after her, his voice filled with fake sweetness. “Don’t ignore me. I thought we were friends.”
Lily clenched her fists but kept moving toward the door. She wasn’t going to let him get to her today. Not when she was so close to leaving all of this behind.
Before she could make it out, a strong hand grabbed her arm, stopping her from leaving the school. She turned around to see Lucas standing there, his icy blue eyes staring into hers.
His grip on her arm wasn’t too painful anymore, she was used to it, but it was firm enough to make her heart race.
“You think you can just walk away?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Lily looked angrily at him, trying to remove her arm out of his grip, but he was too strong.
“What do you want, Lucas?” she asked as she tried to withstand the pain he was inflicting on her.
Lucas didn’t answer right away. He just stared at her, as if searching for something in her face.
His eyes, usually so cold and cruel, held something else, something Lily couldn’t quite understand.
For a moment, she thought he might actually say something different, something that wasn’t an insult or a taunt. But then Liam appeared at his side, his signature smirk plastered across his face.
“Come on, Lucas,” Liam said, putting his arm around his twin’s shoulders. “She’s not worth it.”
Lucas’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything. He looked at Liam, then back at Lily, his expression unreadable.
“Yeah, I’m not,” Lily muttered, releasing herself then turning away from them and heading for the door.
She was done with their games.
That evening, as Lily sat in her room, she went over her plan one last time.
She had packed most of her things, only important stuff. Clothes, some food, and the small amount of money she had managed to save over the years.
She didn’t have much, but it would be enough to get her out of the pack’s territory. That was all she needed.
Her heart pounded as she thought about it. In just a few days, she would be gone. No more school, no more bullying, no more Alpha twins. She would finally be free.
Her phone buzzed on the table and she picked it up to see a message from Maya.
"You okay?I heard what those two monsters did" She asked.
Lily quickly responded, telling her friend she was fine. But the truth was, she wasn’t. She felt like a storm was coming, and she had no idea how to stop it.
As she lay back on her bed, staring up at the ceiling, she thought about Lucas’s strange behavior earlier that day.
He had looked at her differently, almost as if he was trying to say something. But what? Was he starting to feel guilty for how he treated her?
Lily shook her head. It didn’t matter. Very soon, she would be gone, and whatever was going on with the twins wouldn’t affect her anymore.
Still, the feeling of dread wouldn’t leave.
Later that night, Lily went to the kitchen for a glass of water. As she stood at the window, looking out into the night outside, something caught her eye.
Someone stood in the street just staring at her house. It was too dark to see clearly, but she could make out the shape of someone watching her.
A chill ran down her spine.
Her cup fell from her hand and by the time she looked outside again, the person had disappeared.
Her heart raced as she stepped back from the window. Who had been watching her? And why?
As she made her way back to her room, she tried to steady herself despite feeling terrified. Something was definitely wrong.
And for the first time, Lily wondered if she would really make it to her eighteenth birthday.
The days went on, but the strange feeling in Lily’s chest only grew stronger. Maya had noticed her being distracted in school. “Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked for the third time that week, sitting next to Lily in the courtyard during lunch.Lily nodded her head to answer.“Yeah, I’m fine. Just tired" She replied.“Tired from what? It’s not like you’re pulling all-nighters for school,” Maya teased, but her eyes were filled with concern. “Look, I know things have been tough with the twins, but something feels off. You’ve been acting weird.”Lily sighed, leaning back against the tree they sat under. “It’s not just them,” she admitted. “There’s… something else.”Maya frowned.“What do you mean?” she asked almost immediately.Lily hesitated, unsure if she should even bring it up. She didn’t want to sound paranoid, but the feeling of fear had been in her mind for days. Finally, she decided to tell Maya about the person she’d seen outside her window.“I think someone’s been watchin
The Moon Goddess Festival arrived faster than Lily expected. All around her, the pack buzzed with anticipation. Decorations hung from the trees and houses, and people seemed to be enjoying the evening's grand celebration. The festival had always been a massive event for the pack, a tradition going back centuries. It was meant to honor the Moon Goddess and her guidance over the wolves, particularly in matters of mates. But for Lily, tonight held a much darker significance. It was time for her escape, the day she had been counting down to for years, the day she would finally leave. No one in the pack had cared about her birthday; no one even acknowledged it, they probably didn't remember. All they cared was the Alpha twins mate ritual. But that didn’t matter. She didn’t need their well wishes. What she needed was freedom. She clenched her fists at the thought of Lucas and Liam. All these years, they had tormented her relentlessly, making her life a living hell. And now, they were
Lily stood in complete silence, the weight of the Moon Goddess's choice pressing down on her heavily. It felt surreal to be named the mate of Lucas and Liam, the very twins who had turned her life into a living nightmare. A rush of anger filled her veins and judging from the cold expression on both their faces, it was obvious they hated the idea of being tied to her too.“This can’t be real,” she muttered, shaking her head in disbelief. “You’re both sick for even thinking I would accept this.”Liam stepped forward, arms crossed as he rolled his eyes. He felt she was being too dramatic. Every girl would kill to be chosen as their mate but Lily was behaving like she hasn't just won a lottery.“But the Goddess has chosen you, Lily. You don’t get to decide. This is destiny” He replied.“Destiny?” Lily spat, her voice rising. “Destiny is not being forced into a relationship with two bullies! You think I would ever want to be with you after everything you’ve done?”“Look, Lily,” Lucas sai
The cool night air hit Lily’s face as Lucas and Liam dragged her back to the city square. She was already boiling, her mind filled with anger and frustration. The town square was full, all eyes turning as the twins brought her into the center. A loud gasp rose from the crowd, and whispers went through the pack as people recognized her.“Isn’t that Lily? What’s happening?” someone murmured.“She tried to run, didn’t she?” another voice said, obviously with hate.“Traitor,” someone added, and soon enough, the crowd’s murmur turned into a loud series of sneers and insults.Lily clenched her jaw, refusing to let their words wound her. They had called her every name possible over the years; what was one more insult? She kept her gaze ahead, narrowing her eyes as she spotted Alpha Dean, Lucas and Liam’s father, standing at the front of the gathering. He held his head high, a look of both anger and disappointment plastered into his face as he looked at her.“She tried to cross the bound
Lily froze as Graham’s cold stare bore down on her. Her heart raced, and her palms began to sweat, but she forced herself to stay calm. She has seen him around in school and she knew exactly how ruthless he was whenever he suspected someone of going against his masters.“Graham,” she said, forcing a small, nervous smile. “I... I just got a bit lost. This place is so huge, you know? I was just trying to find my way back to my room.”Graham raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. He obviously did not believe anything she had to say.“Lost?” he repeated, his voice sharp with disbelief. “You expect me to believe that?”Lily’s heart sank. His eyes were too keen, too piercing, as if he could see straight through her. She swallowed sliver, choosing to stick fiercely to her story. “Yes, lost,” she insisted, trying to keep her voice steady. “It’s not like I’ve spent much time in the mansion, this is actually my first time since I was a child. It’s easy to take a wrong turn. I mean, you should know
Lily’s mother hummed softly to herself as she carefully applied a fresh layer of lipstick, then dabbed powder onto her face, her eyes bright with excitement. She was finally getting what she had hoped for all these years; recognition and respect. She glanced over at Lily, who sat with a sad expression on her face on a chair across the room, her tear-streaked face hidden by her hands. She couldn't believe her own mother would betray her in such an undignified way.“Oh, darling,” her mother said, not bothering to hide the excitement in her voice, “you have no idea how amazing this is going to be for us. Once you’re officially made Luna, we’ll be one of the most important families in the pack. People will respect us. They’ll look up to us!”Lily’s stomach got sick as she listened to her mother’s words. She felt trapped, like she was drowning and no one was there to pull her up. Each word her mother spoke felt like another weight dragging her down. Of all the people who understood wha
Lily stood rooted to the spot, her cheek still stinging from the slap that had landed with surprising force. The pain was across her face, but what hurt more was the shock that Lexa, of all people, would hit her so openly. She hadn’t even fully processed what had just happened when she felt her mother’s anger rising beside her.“How dare you?” Lily’s mother hissed, her eyes flashing as she stepped toward Lexa. “You lay a hand on the new Luna? You have crossed a line.”But Lexa was undeterred. She shot a glare at Lily’s mother, clearly unfazed by her position or her anger. “The new Luna?” she scoffed. “Lily doesn’t deserve that title. She doesn’t deserve anything. I know she must’ve done something to rig the ceremony.”Lily’s heart skipped a beat, the absurdity of the accusation making her want to laugh. “Rigged the ceremony?” she repeated. “Lexa, do you even hear yourself? I would never choose this fate. Not in a million years.”“Oh, you’re clever, Lily, I’ll give you that. Playin
Lily locked the door behind her, her chest rising and falling in quick, shallow breaths as she pressed her back against the door. Her heart pounded, echoing in her ears as she tried to calm herself. She could barely believe what she’d done—walking away from the ceremony, defying everyone’s expectations. But it had been a brief moment of empowerment, now replaced by a creeping fear that made her feel as if the walls were closing in around her.The knocks at the door began softly at first, then quickly grew into a persistent, demanding pounding. “Lily!” her mother’s voice called. “Open this door right now!”Lily swallowed, her hands trembling as she struggled to maintain her composure. She couldn’t face them, not after the scene she’d caused. She’d thought she could hold her ground, but now, alone in her room with nothing but her thoughts and fears, doubt began to creep in. The weight of everyone’s hatred, the resentment of the entire pack, felt heavier than ever. “Lily!” Her mothe
The halls buzzed with the chatter of students as they moved between classes, laughter echoing off the walls. For Lily, however, the bustling atmosphere felt suffocating. She walked with her head down, clutching her books tightly to her chest, determined to avoid any more confrontation with Lexa and her friends. But fate had other plans.Just as she rounded a corner, she found herself face-to-face with Lexa again who was followed by her usual entourage of giggling girls. The air grew thick with tension as Lexa’s smile twisted into a malicious grin.“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Luna herself again,” Lexa said. “How’s it feel to be the biggest joke in school?”Lily swallowed hard, her heart racing. “Just leave me alone, Lexa,” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady.“Leave you alone?” Lexa scoffed, stepping closer. “And miss out on all the fun? I think not. You see, you might have that fancy title now, but we all know the truth. You’re still just the pathetic girl that eve
Lily sat at the head of the dining table, followed by Liam and Lucas, who were engaged in a conversation with their parents. She tried her best to blend into the background by being very quiet, her heart racing as she forced herself to take bites of her breakfast.Lily had barely managed to catch any bit of sleep the previous night, her mind racing with thoughts of the ceremony and the implications of her new life as Luna. Now, she felt like an ornament without any use except to be showcased to members of the pack as the new Luna.“Liam, Lucas, how was last night?” their mother, a striking woman with an authoritative air, asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.“Normal,” Lucas replied with a nonchalant shrug, his mouth full of pancake.“Good,” Liam added, a smirk playing on his lips as he glanced at Lily, who was desperately trying to keep her composure. She felt the heat rising to her cheeks but remained silent.“Lily?” their mother prompted, her gaze now fixed on her. “How was
Lily stepped into the lavishly decorated room, her new chamber as Luna, feeling a mix of awe and dread. The room was overwhelming, with rich fabrics and intricate designs adorning the walls. But all she could think about was the fate that awaited her—the consummation of her marriage to Liam and Lucas, the twins who had made her life a constant struggle. As the door clicked shut behind her, a pair of maids entered, their faces bright with excitement. “Welcome, Lady Luna!” one of them began, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. “Tonight is a very special night, and we are here to help you prepare!”Lily’s stomach twisted at the thought of what was to come. “I don’t need any help,” she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt. But the maids were undeterred, bustling around her and directing her to sit on the edge of the grand bed.“Tonight, you will consummate your marriage with the Alpha twins,” another maid said, her eyes sparkling. “It is an important tradition, and we w
Lily barely had time to process her thoughts before her mother stormed into the room, her eyes blazing with fury. The air in the room was filled with tension as her mother approached, and Lily instinctively took a step back, her heart racing with the impending confrontation. “How could you disgrace our family like this?” her mother screamed, her voice echoing off the walls. “Do you want to be like your father, bringing shame upon our name? You will go through with this ceremony, Lily, whether you like it or not!”Tears fell from Lily’s eyes, not just from the pain but from the heartbreak of her mother’s betrayal.“Get a grip on yourself!” her mother continued, her voice cold and unyielding. “You have a chance to become Luna, to elevate our family’s status, and you’re throwing it all away for what? A foolish act of desperation? You will not embarrass me or our lineage any further. Do you understand?”Lily’s heart sank as she fought back her tears. She wanted to scream, to tell her m
Downstairs, the grand hall was filled with voices as Liam and Lucas descended the staircase. The echoes of anger and frustration bounced off the walls, drawing them toward the commotion. As they approached, they caught sight of Lexa, her eyes wild with fury. She stood in the middle of a small crowd of bodyguards yelling sharply.“How could this happen?” Lexa’s voice increased, the pain and resentment in her tone evident. “The Moon Goddess was supposed to choose me. I was meant to be their mate, not her!” She clenched her fists, her expression twisting with bitterness.Liam stepped forward, pushing through the crowd that had gathered to witness Lexa’s outburst. As he approached, Lexa’s gaze locked onto him, her face softening slightly, though the fire of rage still simmered.“Lexa,” he said quietly, attempting to soothe her, “calm down. Let’s not do this here.”Lexa scoffed, her voice laced with contempt. “Calm down? You want me to calm down when that girl is upstairs, preparing to
