“I need space, Mother.” A sob raked its way out of Tanya's throat. “And I'd prefer if you just-”

“Come on, Tanya.” Diane felt desperate now. This had gone on for long enough. “Please. Let me help out, at least.”

Silence greeted her statement, and then she heard a loud sigh. Seconds later, a puffy-eyed and bedraggle haired Tanya stared at her. “You can help out by staying out, Mother. But since you just wouldn't give up, come in.”

Seeing that look on her daughter's face almost broke Diane, but she kept her emotions in check.

Tanya flopped on the clustered bed, and her mother, momentarily forgetting her mission, examined the situation with concerned eyes.

“Don't you try to say something derogatory against me,” the younger woman suddenly said, startling her mother. “I’m grieving, Mother.”

“I was not going to,” Diane replied, clearing an area with her hand and sitting there. “I was just…it's a mess.”

“I'm a mess. It's just a reflection of how I feel right now.” Subconsciously, Tanya's head moved to her mother's lap, and Diane instinctively stroked it.

“Audrey should never have come back,” she whispered - a thought process Diane definitely couldn't disagree with.

“I'm so sorry, honey.”

“It's not your fault.” Her daughter shuffled her body till it got closer to her mom, and it was when she began to sniffle that Diane realized she was crying.

“Am I not pretty enough, Mother?” she mumbled with tears running down the side of her face to Diane's lap. “Audrey is so ordinary, yet he left me for her. Am I such a terrible person?”

“What? No, baby.” Diane pecked her daughter's forehead. “You're an amazing woman. He's the idiot for picking that girl over you. With time, you'll see that he comes to regret this decision of his.”

“I'll make him regret it,” was the part she didn't say out loud.

Tanya’s response to that was to sob even louder, and it took a while before she quietened till she eventually fell asleep. While stroking her daughter's hair, Diane considered all her options at the moment if she was going to bring Roman down, and a lightbulb went off in her head.

After carefully tucking Tanya in, she went to her room, changed her outfit, and applied the sweetest scented perfume she could find. Then she got into her car and drove to a hotel.

The time was almost ten.

The receptionist looked up when he heard her steps, and his mouth rounded in surprise. “Mrs. Hill. Why, I'm surprised to see you here.”

“Hello to you too, Donald,” she smiled at him, baring all her teeth. The boy had been a young college graduate when she'd first met him at a bar years back in one of the neighboring packs, but he'd lied about his age, and they'd had a fun night out together.

When she discovered his tale, she'd been a bit concerned, but he'd placed his hands into her pants, and all her worries had melted away in pleasure. For a young man, he definitely had talent. But it'd been a one-time thing, and she'd kept it cordial since then.

He was giving her a very lustful look as she stood over the desk, however, indicating that he wanted nothing cordial in that moment.

She chuckled to herself. Men just couldn't resist. “I'd like a key to room four-one-six, please.”

The lust in his eyes didn't clear off as he turned to search for the key, and she was glad it didn't, because the appropriate thing to do in that moment was to ask why she wanted that specific room.

Well, he was never gonna know.

He handed the key to her, and she teased him by rubbing her fingers along his a bit before bidding him good night and walking away.

Her plan was not to stay in the room she'd paid for, however, but the room opposite it. As soon as she'd deposited her bag and other items in her designated room, she locked her door and crossed the corridor to knock at the other.

“Wrong room,” the man inside said.

“I wouldn't be so sure,” she replied, adding a lilt to her voice for a good effect.

The door opened when the person on the other end heard that, and Marcus had a slightly surprised look on his face as she walked into the room.

“Well, well. Look what the goddess dragged in,” he drawled. “I never thought I'd see you here by this time.”

“I thought you might need company,” Diane shrugged, taking off her jacket to reveal that she wore nothing but a flimsy see-through underneath. “Plus, we didn’t finish what we started that day.”

Her nipples were taut against the fabric. His eyes darkened when he saw that, and he licked his lips. “You always know how to make a man happy, don't you?”

“Of course.” Her skirt dropped to the floor, and she stood before him almost completely naked. “It's my pleasure.”

At the word pleasure, Marcus smirked, and he stalked towards her. “Let it not be said then,” he murmured, pulling the fabric from her thighs upward and deliberately grazing her skin with his nails, “That I denied you such pleasure.”

She hummed as he said that, then moaned when she felt him insert his fingers inside her, feeling her body accelerate its production of fluid.

“Your pussy is always so tight,” he murmured into her ear, toying with her flaps. “Just how I like it.”

“I'm not a child, Marcus,” she chuckled in response. “Those words don't work on me anymore.”

He leaned away and grinned at her, then increased his tempo. “Oops. I didn't realize.”

Diane couldn't reply because she was riding on a sexual high, but she recalled why she was there and pulled him close to undo the robe he was wearing. He paused his actions briefly to let her take it off, and he was stark naked underneath.

“Aw,” she teased, running her hand down his rapidly hardening length. “Were you waiting for me?”

He smirked. “I was going to stroke myself to the thought of you tonight, actually.”

She replied his smirk with one of her own. “You don't have to do that anymore. I'm here now.”

“Yes you are, my sweet,” he said as he guided her to the bed, lowering himself into her warmth as they kissed passionately.

Despite all the sensual actions he'd performed when she arrived, Diane knew Marcus didn't move slowly in bed. He moved hard and fast, something she was thankful for because she needed to release as fast as possible so she could make her request.

“Tell me,” he asked as he started pumping into her. “How many times do you want to cum?”

He always liked proposing a challenge when he wasn't going to last long. But she smiled and told him six, and moaned loudly when he increased his rhythm.

Three orgasms later, he was lying beside her on the bed, exhausted. Diane wanted more, but she could live with that for now. She had more important things to deal with.

“Marcus?” she called, and he hummed his response. “I have a favor to ask of you.”

One of his hands went to her left breast and began to play with the nipple. “Whatever could that be?”

“It's Roman Blackburn.”

The fingers pinched the nipple. “I see.”

“I want him dead.”

Finally, I spoke. “We have a problem.” A disturbed look crossed most of their faces. “A problem?” one echoed. I nodded. “I apologize for calling you all so late-” “This is ridiculous.”I paused and looked at the man who'd interrupted. His hair was greying at the sides, and his forehead already boasted of wrinkles. An alarmingly large amount of crow’s feet lined his eyes. Despite that, the pride and authority in his voice could not be mistaken. I stared at him, my mind bringing up his profile. Aaron Kennedy, former Epsilon. Annoying fellow, according to my late father. Always seemed to have a stick up his ass. Recently, he'd been a stick up my ass.“What are you referring to, Aaron?” My voice was low, but powerful enough to remind him of whose presence he was before. The man glared at m

Audrey POV:“Audrey Hill.” The guard looked at me with a blank expression for some seconds, causing me to inwardly squirm. “Proof of identity?” I reached into my bag for my ID, feeling sad. Diane hadn't come to pick me at the gate. As usual, she'd left me to fend for myself. And as usual, I was accepting what seemed like the inevitable. I'd never been her priority anyway. It'd always been Tanya, seeing as I wasn't her blood.Sometimes I'd doubted I was my father's blood, too. But at least he tried his best.“Identified. Welcome, Audrey Hill, daughter of previous Gamma of Rhinestone Pack, Bernard Gatrix-Hill.” Gatrix. My grandfather's name. It'd been so long since I heard anyone say it in relation to my family. Before my dad's death, Gatrix-Hill had been my last name, too. But Diane refused to bear it, saying it was somewhat ‘tacky’.At the time, I kind of agreed with her, and had been terribly grateful when she convinced him to change it for me too. But hearing it from the guard f

Roman POV: “What are you doing?” I looked up from the file I was poring over, surprised that I’d been so engrossed I hadn't heard Julian come in. After the argument we had the other day, it'd taken a while, but we'd finally made up. “Glossing through some files.” He folded his arms and inclined his head to the side. “It looks like you're doing a lot more than glossing to me. You didn’t even hear me walk in.” I snorted and closed the document. “Well, I was glossing intently through those files.” “Mm-hmm. Those files wouldn’t happen to be related to the rogue case, would they?” “...well.” He plopped down on a nearby chair. “That's supposed to be my job, but okay.” “I had the time,” I responded, but even I knew that was a lie. I just needed to do something. “Right. What do you have?” “Just like Pascal said during the last meeting, these attacks are well thought out. As though the rogues know exactly when they're supposed to attack, and how they're to move when they do.” “

I raced through the woods, my senses on high alert though my mind was heady with the scent of musk. There was no better feeling than that of trampling the ground with my paws, and my wolf let out a howl of the ecstasy that we both shared. A while later, I padded down a small clearing, taking note of the sounds around me, making sure there was no threat. And there wasn't. Till everywhere became silent. Rogues. I could smell them. Heart pounding, I trained my ears to listen to their heartbeats and movements, and when the first one appeared, I was ready. A loud cry of pain pierced through the air as I tore it apart, ensuring it was dead before facing the next one charging towards me. I'd just thrown the last one down when a sharp pain struck my chest, and I collapsed, wheezing multiple times before letting darkness embrace me.♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎Audrey POV: I'd been wandering through the woods, savoring the feeling I was never able to enjoy when I heard groaning. Roman POV:It felt like a thousand needles were stuck to my chest as I gained consciousness, and everywhere was dark. I forced myself to regulate my breath till the memories came flooding back to me and opened my eyes, only to shut them back because they were momentarily blinded. “What the hell-” A gasp from my left caused me to peel them open again, and my gaze met that of a stupefied nurse, who let out another sound and fled the room.Seconds later, a few people rushed into the room, and I raised a brow at their panicked faces. “What's going on here?”“You’re okay,” a voice I recognized as Julian's said. His usually nonchalant expression was replaced by one of relief, and I felt slightly uncomfortable. “Of course I am,” I huffed, attempting to sit up. “What am I doing here-shit?"” The nurses immediately scrambled to help me as I fell back, pain shooting across my shoulder. “Do you remember what you're doing here now?” Julian said, his face hovering over mine as the nurses fussed

Though I vaguely recalled her saying that she had to get the bullet out. I didn’t think Luna would have to go through that stress if she'd been the one.Which left the other option her scent had caused me to assume, as stupid as it sounded. She was one of the servants in the temple constructed for the goddess.I mean, that would make a lot of sense. Why she had such an addictive scent, why she was brazen enough to touch my wolf and even…even kiss him.I groaned and turned my face from the ceiling, choosing to focus more on the irritating infirmary odor. I'd go looking for her as soon as I was out. I stayed like that for what felt like and might have actually been hours, occasionally tossing to the other side in a bid to stretch. But the doctor came around once again and told me not to, as the stitches could pull out. I entered a bad mood after hearing that, and I found it hard to conceal my frown as the nurses arrived later to re-dress my wound. They hadn't finished when the door sl

As much as I didn't like my current life, I liked my head on my neck. Thank you very much. I was still contemplating my very existence when the door opened, revealing Diane. She raised a brow at my terribly scattered room, then gave me a disapproving look. “I believe I taught you better than this, Audrey.” I hated that look. “I'm sorry. I'd tidy up soon.” The expression on her face said she preferred immediately rather than soon, but I was a full adult now. She couldn't order me around like she used to. Finally, after the battle of emotions that crossed her face, she decided on looking nonchalant. “Jacob is downstairs.” My eyes widened. “Jake?”“Yes. He's been here for a while, actually, but has been talking with Tanya about the wedding. You know, as the Gamma, he's in charge of the security team for the ceremony.”“...he’s the Gamma?!” She gave up on nonchalance and shot me an irritated look. “Has been for the past few months. You'd have known if you weren't such a coward.” I

If I could describe it, I'd call it electric. Just like the time our eyes met.“Can I-” he paused, seeming surprised that his voice had dropped by an octave, then chuckled embarrassedly. “No. It's too soon.”“What is?” I whispered, not wanting to distort the mood that had been created.I didn't miss the way his gaze dropped my lips and slowly traveled back up to my eyes, and my wolf protested when he stepped back from me. “It's nothing. I'll be back soon.” “But Alpha-”“Oh, and,” he said with a slight frown. “You should stop calling me Alpha. Call me Roman.” Immediately, I shook my head. “That would make it seem like I'm competing with Tanya for your heart. I won't…I can't do that. Not to her.”Hearing my stepsister's name, his eyes dimmed, and he looked away. “It doesn't matter anymore.”I was pretty sure I had a confused expression at that moment. “What do you mean? I couldn't deny the truth. “I'm so sorry, Tanya. I didn't mean for it to happen-” “It’s my fault.” There were tears in her eyes now. “I should never have told Mother to ask her to come back home. Then we would have gotten married, and I'd have been yours. You would have been mine. It's my fault.”“Tanya-” “I hate her so much.” The solemn way she dropped that statement made me pause. “...what?”Her tear-stained eyes looked directly at me, and I saw a storm blooming in them. “I said,” she sniffed. “That I hate her. I hate her so much.”Then she turned and fled.Julian came out not long after that with on unconscious Diane. “Had to put her out,” he grimaced, opening the door of a car I hadn't noticed before. “She was calling me a child.” I didn't know how to reply to that.He waved me over after he'd got into the driver's seat. “Get in. After checking her out, the doctor told me that she'd ingested silver, but not up to the lethal dose. Which was why she still lived. Otherwise, she would have died. I'd wondered where she'd gotten it from till I remembered the silver handcuffs on the wall that were used to chain prisoners while in the cell. I hadn't had the heart to use it on her, but hearing that she'd tried to kill herself using it…Jacob was right again, I thought as I rocked her now warm body. She'd been miserable. And it'd been my fault. She was obviously scared, and despite finding out that she was my mate, she'd begged me not to leave Tanya. She'd pleaded her case multiple times. Despite what I'd thought, locking her up hadn't been the best solution. There could have been alternatives. I sighed and cuddled her closer to me, my wolf letting out a small sound of pleasure at the contact, and we stayed there in silence for a while till I heard loud noises.Less than a minute later, Diane stood at the door of the

“Thank you, Marcus.” She laughed again and tapped his arm thrice. “I must say, I wasn't sure you were going to make it.” His green eyes roamed her body shamelessly. “For you, Diane, how could I not? You're a very good friend.”A few meters away, Julian wanted to vomit. But he forced himself to stay put and survey the perimeter for more threats apart from Diane and the infamous Marcus Henderson. He'd been very close to dethroning that king a couple of times in his covert operations but failed each time. Hearing that fool flirt with Diane like they were horny teenagers caused invisible leeches to feast on his intestines. Roman hadn't responded to his calls that morning, neither had he texted. And when Julian had decided to visit his home, he'd found it empty. The thought of Roman going to the prison to see Audrey had floated in, but he'd pushed it out almost immediately. He looked surprised at my question, then turned away. “She's not good at all. And she’s malnourished.”I frowned at that. “I specifically told the warden to give her food-” “She's not eating it,” he interjected, the scowl back on his face. “She's deliberately starving herself, Alpha. Because she wishes to die.” It seemed like a silver knife was lodged in my chest at those words. I stared at him in disbelief. “What do you mean by she wishes to die? It’s only been about a week and a half since she was detained-” “It's been about a week and a half to you, Alpha, to her? To her, it's like an eternity!” As soon as he said that, he turned on his heels and stomped off, leaving me stupefied. The following day, when darkness had ruled for about four hours, I stepped out of my house to visit the prison. I would have gone the night before, but Tanya had called, and I was unable to leave the call as early as I wanted to. Jacob surely wasn't serious, I thought as I marched down the path to

Roman POV:The elders murmured among themselves after I dropped the information about the rogue attack. Julian and Jacob stood behind me, both of them looking like they wanted to flee the room.I wanted to as well. But for the sake of the pack, we remained. “That's the third one in less than three weeks,” someone commented. “This is getting worse.” “It's like they just spring out of nowhere!” Kennedy yelled, slamming his fist onto the table. I frowned at that but kept my peace. “What in Luna's name is going on?!” “My Beta has some reports he'd like to give,” I announced. Julian nodded when I called him up and stepped forward. The expression on some of the elders’ faces switched to disgust, while some exuded fear. The child of the former Alpha's maid, now Beta, is rumored to be a killing machine. They weren't wrong on both counts. I pursed my lips, recalling the way my best friend sped to Audrey and captured her neck in a vice grip. I'd spoken to him earlier and warned him never

“Beta Julian!” Jacob yelled. “Beta, please, let her go. There are better ways to discuss this.” The Alpha was quiet. The Beta turned to my best friend and raised me even higher so that I was now gasping. “I should let her go, hm?” His eyes were blazing, but his voice remained deathly calm. “Read the letter.” Jacob didn't move. “She's about to choke to death. She needs proper trial first before we condemn her for whatever-” “Read the damn note, Jacob.” The man turned to glare at me. “Then you'll find out why she's a traitor.” “I…” I wheezed. “I really *cough* didn't do that-” My lungs were burning, and I was struggling to take air in. The Beta, on the other hand, looked like he could do that all day. His eyes flashed with anger as he tightened his grip.“Let her go, Julian,” a familiar voice with a withdrawn tone said, just as I was about to become unconscious.“Roman.” The Beta sounded disgruntled.“Now.” I could sense the reluctance in his gaze as he released his hold on me,

“What do you want?” I snapped. “Mate,” it complained, startling and annoying me at the same time. Sure enough, my supposed mate lay on the floor, but she was in her wolf form. I stared at her, first wondering why I couldn't perceive that sweet scent of hers, then asking myself what the hell she was doing outside the pack house.Jacob had apparently placed the entire pack house on lockdown, meaning that no one would have been able to leave the compound if they hadn't snuck out. In that situation, I should have been able to perceive it everywhere as soon as I arrived on the scene, unless she... Unless she'd attempted to hide her scent.Julian's words rang through my mind, and I almost let out a growl. I didn’t care that we were mates.
