WINTER POV

Lisa asked me, "Are you still thinking about what Lady Denise said?"

I shook my head, even though it wasn't entirely true. I couldn't tell her that Slade's mother was acting stranger than usual, and even if I did, I doubted she would understand.

"I feel like she's trying to make you afraid," Lisa added, placing a small bottle filled with a concoction in front of me. "What are we going to do with this?"

"We need to research what's in it," I mumbled, wincing as I felt a sharp pain in my arm. Glancing down, I noticed that the vein had turned blackish, giving the appearance that I had painted it.

"Your hand, my lady!" Lisa exclaimed, grabbing hold of my hand. "Did the shot do this?"

I nodded, pulling my hand away and covering it with the sleeve of my sweater. I then glanced over at a sleeping Slade.

"Whatever was in that syringe was meant to kill him. And how did Lady Denise know it was fatal?" I furrowed my brow in confusion.

"She mentioned the name of the plant..." Lisa inter
