EMILY recalled how she dreamed of being mated after turning eighteen years old. While other girls her age in her pack had finally found their mates when the mating season happened, hers remained unknown. She recalled how Jacob mocked her numerous times, telling her that she was cursed by the Moon Goddess, which was why she had no wolf; worse, she had no mate who would love her.
She wondered how it felt to have a mate—to be kissed and loved for who she was—but now that someone was claiming to be her mate, she couldn’t muster the courage to believe and accept it. Even her gut twisted painfully at that thought.
She just couldn’t be mated with a beast.
Looking at the Lycan in front of her, whose wayfaring blue eyes were staring down at her, made her feel repulsed. He’d be attractive only if she didn’t find him beastly. He was a typical monster any werewolf would never want to cross paths with, and out of all the shifters who could catch her, it was so unlucky of her to be caught by the primordial Lycan without a sweat.
Emily pushed him away with all her remaining strength. The man growled and tilted his head, but she would never give in to him, even though she was scared.
With her gritted teeth, she scowled at him, “I am not your mate!”
“You are,” he said firmly. “My beast can feel the goddamn mate bond pull.”
“But I don’t!” she yelled at him hysterically. “I have no wolf inside of me. I can’t feel that freaking mate bond you are saying, and even if I do, I will not accept you as my mate!”
The Lycan Blood Alpha laughed out loud, and she instantly felt mocked and insulted. If only she had a wolf to confirm what he said, she would not have hesitated to reject him right away. Emily could never afford to be mated with a beast that killed so many lives in the past—his bloodline was monstrous… killers!
“Cut the teen drama, little rogue. My beast has a strong desire for you. It’s not really me, so don’t get your hopes up.” He then smirked. “You’re lucky. I still want to consider you.”
“What’s lucky about being mated to a monster like you?” Emily shook her head, her hands forming a fist. Breathing deeply, she marched in front of him with a glare. “I, Emily Lawrence of the Dark Moon Pack, reject you—”
But before she could finish her rejection speech, he strangled her right away. When he pushed him with force, she felt pain in her back as she hit the cold cell. Emily could feel her bones cracking at his attack.
“Dare to reject me, and I will kill you,” he uttered wryly.
Her face turned red because of the suffocation. She tried to shove his hand away, but the beast was too strong. How could a wolf-less girl ever beat him?
“L-Let m-me g-go…”
“Before you act so highly in front of me, consider this thought.” He leaned forward, glaring at her. “You’re still alive because of my mercy. A rogue like you doesn’t have the right to reject a Lycan like me. Do you get that?”
Her lips formed a thin line. There was no way she would agree with the beast. Even if she was a rogue and wolfless, she had the right to reject him as her mate. Fuck the hierarchy!
“Do you fucking get that, little rogue?” he repeated, quite persistent as he gripped her neck so tightly.
Emily started to cough, feeling her head about to explode. Her body was losing oxygen, and she was about to pass out. As the hot tears rolled down her cheeks, she swallowed her pride and just nodded. She must not die!
“Very well.” He smirked and finally let her go.
Holding her neck, she couldn’t help but cough so hard and cry in pain. She thought he was done with her, not until he grabbed her arm and tugged her forcibly into an available cell.
“W-What are you doing?” Emily panicked as she watched him close the gate of the cell and lock it with a large padlock. “What the… hell… are you doing?!”
“Can’t state the obvious, little rogue?” He raised an eyebrow. “You are going to be locked up here. Try to escape and you’ll die.”
“N-No!” She ran towards the gate and tried to stop his hand from locking it. “Stop it! Y-You can’t do this to me. I beg you!”
“Oh, you know how to beg?” He chuckled a bit before he shook his head. “Then go beg some other time. You already bored me to death. I have to find fun somewhere.”
“D-Don’t do this!” Emily started to bang the cell with her hands. “Y-You can’t leave me here! Fuck, I hate you!”
“The feeling is mutual,” he said hatefully, and he walked away without looking back at her.
Emily felt her anger coursing through her veins. Crying, all she could do was scream in frustration and bang the cell one last time before she fell to the cold ground.

‘You should not have done that to her! She is our mate!’ His beast, Argus, grunted in his mind as he walked to the porch of his house. ‘Release me right now!’
“Your mate!” Lucian groaned. “Not mine. Mine was Elena. I don’t feel connected to that rogue either. She was a total stranger to me.”
Lucian found the situation too odd. He grew up with the knowledge that every lycan could only have one mate. Having a second-chance mate made him confused. That was something he never saw coming.
‘I can tell you that she’s our second-chance mate! The mate bond kicks in like crazy! Fucking release me so we can talk!’
“We are goddamn talking, Argus!” He gritted his teeth, annoyed.
‘I said release me!’
“Then you have to fucking wait!”
As soon as Lucian entered his house, which was filled with darkness, he surrendered to his beast and opened the invisible vessel within him, making a huge amount of black smoke go out of his body. That dark smoke formed a beastly shape; its crimson eyes were giving him a deadly glare.
One of his special powers was to speak with his beast’s spirit, even in his human form. Argus loved to be released most of the time. It was their hobby. Talking to his beast gave him nothing but relief. However, that is not the case at this moment. Seeing his beast spirit, who was obviously growling at him, had given Lucian the impression that this would not be much of a good time.
Apparently, Argus was mad because he had just maltreated their mates—or his beast’s mate. From the moment they first saw her near the boundary, Argus had acted nuts, like the first time they saw Elena. But Lucian couldn’t feel the same as Argus could. He couldn’t feel the connection at all.
“Why did you hurt her?!” Argus’s monstrous voice echoed throughout the entire house.
Lucian crossed his arms while shaking his head. “I only shut her out.”
“I saw what you did! You hurt our mate, Lucian!”
“Probably just your mate, because I don’t feel anything about her, not even the goddamn mate bond pull, Argus.” His eyes narrowed as he looked at the beast’s spirit. “It’s not the same with Elena, or you’re just telling a lie, perhaps!”
“Our lineage is different. We can have a second chance mate! I already told you, Lucian, and you dare to doubt me right now?”
Lucian fought the urge to growl at Argus. He walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water, completely aware that his beast was following him.
“I’ve felt it even if she hasn’t unlocked her wolf yet. Her smell made me so aroused and thirsty. We should take her here. We have to mark her!”
After finishing up the bottled water, Lucian turned his attention back to Argus. His beast was persistent, and the way it acted was enough to prove that it was telling the truth. He just could not figure out why he didn’t feel the same thing towards that brave rogue.
“She doesn’t want us, though,” Lucian said hatefully.
“Then we can make her,” Argus grunted. “This will be your chance to remarry. You better marry our second chance mate instead of a whore, Lucian. You wouldn’t like what I’d do if you dared to defy me.”
Lucian had an idea about Argus’s threatening words. His beast had the ability to make him suffer physically. He could hurt him, and it was the only weakness he had.
“You should transfer our mate here into the house. Again, do not defy me,” Argus warned him before the wolf spirit went back to his body.
“Shit…” he cursed as he sucked in a deep breath.
Lucian felt as if he was cheating on Elena, his dead wife. For him, she was the one and only mate he ever had. No one would be able to replace his wife, not even the rogue who just trespassed the borders to escape. But he had to pacify Argus…
And so he mind linked with Tyler. His Beta arrived at his house in less than two minutes and seemed to have just woken up from a deep slumber.
“What’s the matter this time, Lucian?”
“You have to get the rogue we just caught from the prisoners’ area. Put her in the guest room and call the pack doctor,” Lucian ordered him.
But Tyler looked at him in confusion. When his Beta tried to read his thoughts, he quickly blocked it.
“Why would you let a rogue enter your house?”
Lucian glared at him. “You’ll know. But right now, get that rogue and make sure no one finds out about this. This has to be a secret. That woman will be useful.”
“YOU’RE going to die here. We all are….”Emily turned her head toward the prisoner inside the cell next to her. The man was already skin and bones due to starvation and appeared to be just waiting for his death. His words echoed through her head a thousand times, making her quiver as she sat on the cold metallic floor, taunting her soul. Hot tears fell down her cheeks, and yet she was quick to wipe them all away.“It feels so wrong for my life to end this way,” she whispered, gritting her teeth until her jaw ached. She envisioned death as way more terrifying than what she had experienced with Jacob, so she could never allow it to happen. Even if it was the fate that the Moon Goddess prepared for her, Emily wanted to dodge it with all her might.Mustering all her courage, she stood up and went to the locked gate, trying to pull the lock off, but to no avail. She screamed in frustration, her chest going up and down.“Dirt like us will never have a chance to escape this hell, young lady.
“YOU'RE mine, Emily… mine alone,” Jacob whispered to her ear before he thrust into her. Emily cried beneath him. In her mind, a lot of thoughts were whirling, making her want to turn away from the Moon Goddess for making her life miserable; for not helping her even once, and for probably laughing while looking over at her from the Moon. Naked and afraid, she screamed as her good-for-nothing brother raped her without any remorse. She blinked awake, sucking in a long, deep breath, and swallowing the lump in her throat. A nightmare, she thought, but it made her feel a sting of pain inside her chest. Emily was not wrong when she first thought that Jacob’s attempt to rape her would haunt her forever. It just started, and it crept her to the bones as the vivid memory of his disgusting act repeatedly played in her mind as if it were a goddamn traumatizing movie. Even though unwanted tears sting her eyes, she sits upright and notices that she isn’t inside the cell anymore. Her gaze feaste
In the White House...The ever so beautiful Scarlett Smith was sitting on the couch in the VIP room, sipping on her cup of tea with such grace and elegance. She was with Ruby Montreal—Lucian’ mother—who was assisting her.Being the daughter of the Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack, the second largest and strongest pack in North America, Scarlett was a special. Not only because she was the oldest daughter of the said Alpha who would inherit the wealth of her family once she got married, but because she was not just an ordinary shewolf. She was a half-lycan. Every Alpha in North America was dying to have her, but the woman did not seem to set her eyes on them, instead she chose to aim for the best among all men, Lucian Montreal. For Ruby Montreal, Scarlett was the most expensive diamond that perfectly fit to be her son’s new wife."Luna Ruby, it’s been a while since the last time I saw Lucian. I hope he’s excited to see his future wife," Scarlett said with a proud tone of voice.Ruby smi
"Whoa! You are getting good at hunting animals." Her maid, Lisa, patted her shoulder after she knocked out a big bad jaguar lurking in the forest of their land. Her arms were on her hips as she caught her breath. "That jaguar had been a great nuisance. It destroyed most of the crops in the Omega community. It needed to die."The beautiful Laura Montreal, the twin sister of the Alpha of the Lycan Blood Pack, whose eyes slowly turned amber from burning gold, her brown-colored hair flipping on its own because of the cold breeze, and her face screamed feistiness and power. She was actively volunteering to help the Omegas and became their voice to receive fair treatment from the leaders. She was the Alpha's kind twin sister who never turned anyone down and helped everyone she could."You should get back to the mansion, Lisa." She looked at the sky that was turning dark gray, and as she sniffed the air, she already knew that a storm would be coming and pester the land for a couple of days.
Emily could only stare at Laura’s hand with a bit of excitement building through her chest. She would admit that the woman’s offer of “escape” had caught her attention. It was like an answered prayer for her as she’d been so stressed, trying to find a good way to escape the house a while ago.“So what do you think? Are you going to trust me or not?”She glanced up and saw the smirk on Laura’s lips; the way her amber eyes glowed in an evident mischief made Emily feel hesitant though. Her eyes, even though their color was completely different from her beastly brother, could not be trustworthy. Laura glanced at her the same way Lucian did when he first caught her; full of mischief and totally dangerous.“What’s the catch?” Emily asked in her firm, doubtful voice.“Lucian did not tell me you are into negotiations.”“I’m trying to be cautious,” she said. “After all, I am here in the land that is full of primordial Lycans.” A land full of monsters who killed countless of innocent lives, he
One thing that amazed Emily was the huge market inside the Lycan Blood Pack territory. The shifters living in the land looked too normal as they went on with their lives, buying those things they needed at home, and spending time with their families.Everything in the pack seemed normal, as if they were not the most feared pack at all…Sure, Emily had thought differently as soon she realized she had stepped in the territory of what she thought was the monsters’ lair. She thought her life would be in extreme danger and she would become the food of the primordial lycans, since she knew they practiced cannibalism. But the sight she was seeing was not that bad...in fact, too normal.Emily followed Laura all the way to an expensive boutique. Even if the woman’s action totally confused her, she could not help but still feasted on what her eyes could see in front of her. All the signature dresses and shoes, bags and stunning stuff for women were available in the boutique they were in.“What
Emily looked up at the round moon through the window that very night. All this time, she believed that the Moon Goddess forsook her, making her experience all kinds of suffering from the hands of Alpha Jacob, the man she thought was her brother. But right now, she was having second thoughts about her beliefs because of the good things surrounding her.She was staying in an elegant room with a comfortable bed to sleep on. There was food being served every meal. New clothes were bought for her as well. Those were the things she never had before, not to mention that there was a beast that was willing to take her in.Sure, she hated the fact that a beast became her mate. But if she would gauge the situation she had right now compared to how she lived in the Dark Moon Pack, she could never deny that her life here was way more acceptable.Everything that Laura had told her lingered in her mind. It made her think carefully. Inhaling sharply, she kept looking up at the moon. Deep within, she
Anger filled Lucian’s chest as he stepped into the event hall where the grand ball would be held. The place was filled with rich pack members, other Alphas who they were allied with, and the families of the Elders, who were practically former Alphas who used to enjoy the power of being leaders.Everyone’s attentions were glued to him. When he became the new Alpha of the pack years ago, he could recall how uncomfortable it was, those attentions that were given to him, especially by the Elders. However, now that he had been leading the pack for almost eight years, he had already got used to it.His expression was cold as he approached his parents. Many hot women turned their heads just to see him, even greeted him to get a little of his attention, but Lucian was totally pissed off that he did not mind them at all.He felt like the night was the time of his execution. Laura and the cheap rogue were nowhere to be found. That only meant one thing: his twin sister was not able to convince h
Six months later, Life was like a never-ending rollercoaster of surprises. Some days, it could be incredibly wonderful, while on other occasions, it felt like a series of unfortunate events. There were also those moments when it was filled with tension and fear. But its beauty remains for as long as you believe you can get through all this series of unexpected emotions. That’s what Emily had learned in the lesson life had given her. From being a slave to a pack she thought her only family to becoming the Luna of the pack, she thought were monsters but turned out to be the best family she could ever have. While there were painful situations that happened as she went along in this life, Emily would admit that these phases she had to go through helped her to become the best she-wolf she could ever imagine. With a Lycan King by her side and a kind daughter who values helping others using the gift she received from the Moon Goddess, and now that they were expecting a new family member
Five hours later, Emily was already carrying Nia in her arms. They finally arrived in the Lycan Blood Pack territory and her daughter shivered at the sight of the land before them. “Mommy, I don’t like this place,” Nia said, trembling. “Where’s Daddy? Is he here?”Emily kissed Nia’s cheek trying to console her. “Daddy’s here. She needs you, Nia.” She took one of her tiny hands and kissed its knuckles. “Remember that day you showed me how you are able to bring the dead bird back to life?” Nia nodded her head, focusing on what Emily, her mother, had to say. Emily swallowed hard and carefully glanced at Nia. “Can you do the same thing to your Daddy…? B-Bring him back to life?” Her little girl’s eyes began to water. Nia was smart enough to realize what Emily meant by that. Her lips curved downward, and her chin trembled. “Daddy is dead, Mommy?” Nia’s voice cracked. Unable to control her emotions, Emily cried and nodded her head. “Y-Yes… Daddy is dead.”“No, Mommy,” Nia broke into te
Emily wailed in despair, her body trembling. She felt as if Lucian's death had become her death also… she sobbed as she hugged Lucian's dead body, kissing his forehead. "No… no, please, Lucian…" she cried. "Please don't do this to me. W-We need you… We haven't done so much together…" In the middle of her grievance, Alpha Cain ran inside the basement and came to a halt as soon as he saw her crying her heart out due to Lucian's passing. "Emily…" his voice sounded shocked. Sobbing, Emily turned her head to Alpha Cain, her heart consumed by fury. "Y-You…" "We need to get out of here," Alpha Cain said as he tried to compose himself. "Lucian's dead. We have to get out of here, otherwise, the other Alphas will kill you!" Emily growled angrily. She put Lucian down and immediately attacked Alpha Cain, using her Alpha power to push him with all force, which made him fly into the wall. The wall began to crack until it broke down. She didn't stop right there as she shifted to her wolf form
No longer caring about hurting and killing werewolf warriors from the enemy's side, Emily advanced mercilessly. Having Atlas and Laura backing her up was helpful, as the two fought other Alphas who tried to block her way. It didn't take long hours before she finally could see the towering mansion of the Silver Crest, which she guessed was where Scarlett was hiding. Emily sniffed in the air, smelling the familiar disgusting scent of her nemesis, Scarlett. The smell itself made all her emotions surge inside her. Her eyes were bloodshot as she looked up at the mansion. A growl escaped her throat before she made her way to the mansion's entrance. Without hesitation, she pushed the double doors open and scanned the first floor. It was dark, cold, and empty. "I believe you were looking for me," said the familiar voice that ignited her fury. "Long time no see." Emily looked up and found Scarlett staring down at her from the second floor, leaning against the railings while eating an apple.
Emily was stunned by the sight of the colossal convoy of trucks that stood in formation outside the arena. Atlas Kane motioned for her to inspect the trucks, and she complied without hesitation. She’d never seen so many weapons in her entire life. There were guns and rifles brimming with lethal silver bullets, and there were barrels containing syringes that had ominous wolfsbane liquid. She then turned her gaze towards the formidable gathering of hundreds of warriors behind the array of trucks, standing steadfastly and waiting for instructions from their Alpha. She spun to face Atlas Kane in awe. Emily never knew her new boss from the human town would be this helpful in times of a great war. “Well, I hope I brought enough.” Atlas Kane shrugged, sounding very arrogant as usual, only by now, Emily didn’t feel irritated with how he talked. She was, in fact, thankful as the weapons and warriors would absolutely help them in the counterattack. She looked at Tyler and Laura, whose eyes
Emily looked up at the night sky and took a sigh. She was sitting on the stairs of the arena's double doors for almost an hour, guarding the entire place from possible attacks from their enemies. Her mind was filled with worry. The pack was in horrible shape; the smoke and fires not far away from her indicated that the situation could be worsened more, and she had no idea to what extent this war would go further. She stared up blankly at the silver moon in the sky, hoping it would give her much strength to carry on with helping the remaining pack members and save Lucian. Wherever Nia's father was at the moment, may the Moon Goddess help him survive no matter what; he needed to stay alive for them. 'Scarlett is the root cause of all this mess. She has to pay for everything that she ruined, Em,' said Cassia through the mind link, seething with anger as the wolf snarled with its eyes glowing. 'If something happens to Nia's father, I swear I won't let it slide.'"We won't let it slide,"
Emily was enraged. Her eyes were bloodshot, and all she thought about was killing the alpha who she was seated on when Laura screamed to stop her. "Emily, no! We still need him to track Lucian!" said Laura. Her chest went up and down, her hand stopped in the air, and deep within, she wanted to go on. But hearing Laura's words, her mind was again filled with chaos. Before Alpha Ray could land a punch on her, she hit him on the neck as hard as she could, targeting his nerves to immobilize him. Three Lycan warriors came to her when she stood up. "Luna!" They all bowed their heads as a form of respect. "Take him. Please do everything you can so he won't escape. We still need him," she ordered. The Lycan warriors were quick to follow Emily's command. Her gaze followed them as they left, and then she glanced in Laura's direction. Her face immediately softened as she looked at her sister-in-law, and in one swift move, she ran towards her and embraced her. "Emily, you're back," Lau
Panic increased in Emily's chest, her mind utterly haywire. Her heart pounded so loud that she couldn’t breathe. After learning the bad news from Alpha Atlas Kane, she sprinted out of his office, not minding these human employees who might have seen her use her heightened speed. It only took a minute for her to be able to go home, and she instantly went to Lia, who was in the living room together with the kids, Elle and Nia. "Mommy, did you teleport?" Nia asked out of curiosity and rubbed her eyes before looking at Emily again. "Mommy, you teleported!" "No, Nia. Your Mom sprinted as fast as the wind," Elle corrected. "How did she do that?" "Emily, what happened?" Lia rose from her seat and went to Emily. Her whole body shook as if she was still trying to process the news she heard from Alpha Atlas. She looked at Lia with utmost fear and worry, and all she did was hold Lia's arm when she felt her knees weakened due to her welled-up emotions. She gasped for air as the negativ
"I suggest you relax, Em," Lia suggested with a smile. They were in the living room, watching the television, but Emily could not pay attention. She kept looking at her phone, waiting for Lucian's text message or call. It had been a week since he left for some pack affairs, and Emily hadn't heard from him since then. He sent him a few text messages, but those even went on read at all. "It's just weird for him to not check his phone for that long," Emily reasoned. "Do you think there's a problem in the pack right now? I can't help but worry.""It's impossible. Your husband's pack is the strongest, and he and Tyler can surely handle problems in the pack," Lia assured her, passing the popcorn on her. Emily smiled a bit, but the worry remained in her chest, or maybe she just really missed him. She didn't know. The feelings she had for Lucian went deeper and stronger, and her mind seemed only to know nothing but scream Lucian's name. It was cringed, but that's how she described it. "Le
