Chapter 8

I arrived at the bakery very early, I stood at the door and waited for Nadia to arrive as she is the only one that has the keys to the bakery. I took at the time and realized it was just seven thirty am and the bakery opens by eight.

Oh lord, Just when I decide to leave the house early this happens.

I sat on an empty stool which was kept by the side of the door, I took out my phone and began playing a game, shortly after I started playing the game I heard a voice from behind, I immediately recognized the voice, it was Nadia

"What are you doing here?”

"I didn’t notice the time when I left the house." I responded

"Ohh okay, actually it’s good that you’re here." She said as she opened the entrance door

"Good, what do you mean?"

"I got a call earlier, we have an important order and the delivery time is eleven o’clock"

"We don’t accept such big orders especially when the order is to be delivered early"

"They are paying double and the order is from a relative of the boss, so I had no choice but to accept it"

"Okay”

"I have called Amal and the other workers, they might be on their way by now. Before they arrive we should start" She said before we walked into the kitchen

I wore my apron and hair net before I began making the dough.

Shortly after the doughnut dough was kneaded, the rest of the bakers had already arrived. I was told by Nadia to handle the counter service while the rest will continue with the order preparation.

"Welcome to Amees Bakery, how may I help you" I presently said to a customer that approached the counter

"Two chocolate doughnuts and one black coffee"

"Please take a sit while I get your order ready." I said as I heard a ring from my phone, I looked at it and saw it an unknown number

I decided to pick up the call despite it I wasn’t on break. Once I picked up the call I didn’t say a word till the caller talked

"Hello" A deep familiar voice said, I immediately recognized the voice, it was Rayan’s

"Hello"

This is awkward, I didn’t know what to say afterwards, well maybe it’s more awkward for him before he was the one that called.

He didn’t say a word for almost a minute neither did I.

"I wanted to know how you are doing?"

No one cares about how I’m doing.

"I’m fine"

I felt very awkward because this was the first time someone called just to as me how I’m doing.

"And your brother?" He asked

"Khalil is fine as well"

I was about to speak when the customer who ordered earlier approached me

"I will call you back" I said before I hung up on him

"Yes, is there anything you need." I asked once as I ended the call

"I haven’t gotten my order yet"

Why do I keep forget things.

"I’m so sorry sir, I will get it for you right away." I said

"You know what, just pack my order I will take it to go." He said before he walked back to his sit

After I packed the order and approached his table and gave it to him, Amal walked up to me

“Nadia wants us to deliver the order." She said

"What! since when are we supposed to deliver orders."

"Since now, the delivery men aren’t around so she wants to send someone responsible to deliver the order."

"But why us, I mean…" I didn’t finish talking when she interrupted "I’m the only employee that knows how to drive a manual car and she knows we work great together, that’s why and please no more questions. Grab your bag, and let’s get going"

I nodded as I grabbed my phone and walked out with her.

Amal got her driver's license when she was eighteen years old, she was born in a family of drivers, and learning how to drive wasn’t hard for her as her dad was once a driver before he got a civil servant job.

Shortly we arrived at the house entrance gate, the gate was incredibly big, one could tell the house is large and the compound is wide. The watchman looked carefully at our faces before he spoke

"Who are you here to see,?" He asked as he took off his eyeglasses

"We are here to deliver an order" Amal responded

He stared at us for a moment before he told the other watchman to open the gate.

"I always dreamt of living in a house like this" Amal said as she drove into the house compound

I gaped at the house was extremely large, it looked like an extended family house. The beautiful water fountain at the entrance of the house is remarkable

"Afraah, are you watching what I’m watching?"

"Yes, the house is lovely"

"Where am I gonna park" She muttered a bit audible

"You can park over there" I pointed at their parking spot

"Are you kidding me, I can’t park this car there"

"Why?" I instantly asked

"Wait a minute, is that Ferrari?"

"I have no idea"

Car’s aren’t really my thing, I only know few car names and that’s because I hang up with Amal, she is a lover of cars.

"That’s Ferrari." Amal said as she drove closer to it "And do you still want me to park this car next to it"

"Just park the car so we can get this delivery thing over with."

Shortly after she parked the car, we took the doughnut boxes out of the car truck and walked towards the house entrance door. I was about to knock on the door when Amal stopped me

"You can’t just knock on the door."

"Then how are they supposed to know we are here" I said

"Oh Afraah, you seriously have so much to learn." She said as she pressed a button and looked at the camera which was hung by the side of the door before she spoke "Delivery from Amees Bakery”

"Oh, I have seen something like this in one of Khalil’s cartoons." I said

"Oh dear, you’re so old fashioned." She said with a bit of laughter in her voice.

Not quite long, the door automatically opened revealing a luxurious lavishly living room.

"This looked like heaven" Amal whispered to herself

"Good morning, you must be here to deliver the doughnuts." A lady said as she walked to our direction.

"Good morning, where are supposed to keep the doughnuts,” Amal said

She rang a bell and some ladies walked into the room, I think they are the servants especially because they were wearing matching outfits. "You can go ahead and give it to them,” She said

As we handed over the doughnuts box, she rang the bell again and another servant walked in. "Get my phone,” She said

"Okay ma’am" The servant said before leaving

Does she ring a bell anytime she wants something?

"I hope you accept cash transfer?" She asked

Which store doesn’t? Like seriously what kind of question is that?

"Yes we do" I smiled

Not quite long, the servant walked into the room with her phone. She shortly made the payment and showed us the transaction payment

"Thank you, ma’am." I said before we turned back and walked out of the house

"Did you see that?" Amal said as we stepped out of the house

"See what?"

"Her necklace, she is wearing someone’s yearly income. That is pure diamond around her neck"

"And how do you it’s worth?" I asked

"I know an expensive diamond when I see one"

Amal heeds everything, nothing escapes her gaze, once she sees something she will mathematically find out its worth. I was about to enter the car when I realized Amal wasn’t behind me, she was taking a selfies in front of the Ferrari.

Amal can’t be serious, if someone sees her there, it’s with we loss our job or we become the gossip of the house. "Amal" I said while approaching her

"Help me take a picture." She said as she handed me her phone

"You got to be kidding me."

"Please just one." She pleaded

I rolled my eyes before I grabbed the phone from her hand and clicked a photo of her.

"Let me see it" She said

"No! we have to leave before I show you the picture because I know no matter how I snap the picture you won’t like it"

I grabbed her hand and we walked closer to the car, we were about to enter the car when a voice called my name from afar.

I turned around I saw Rayan walking towards me

"He’s good looking" Amal muttered

"Afraah, I didn’t know you were coming" He said immediately as he approached me

"I came for delivery work."

"Oh nice" He turned about and glimpsed at Amal

"Yeah, I will get going now."

I was about to enter the car when he held the car door

"We are having a prayer session, why don’t you join us?"

"No, I don’t think it’s a good idea, besides I have so much to do back at the bakery"

"Nadia, she’s your boss, right? I will talk to her, just stay till the prayer finish" He said

"Okay we will" Amal uttered before she winked at me

"I’m not sure if Nadia will agree but…" I wasn’t done talking when he interrupted "Don’t worry, I will just speak to her" He said as he brought out his phone and moved a little far from us

Shortly after he ended the call he walked closer to us before he spoke "I have talked to her and you can stay till after the prayer is concluded"

"Great" Amal muttered

"I can show you around if you want" He said

I nodded and began walking with him, I turned back and looked at Amal who was clicking selfies in front of their cars. That girl isn’t alright.

We walked for a little while in silence before he spoke "So, how is Khalil doing?"

"He is fine"

I wanted to ask him why he brought breakfast for Khalil that day but I didn’t want to make things awkward. "Why are you having a prayer session at home?" I asked

"There is never a reason behind prayers and giving out charity right?"

"Yes you are right, I have no idea why I asked that question."

"Anyways, do you wanna sit here?" He asked after we walked closer to the garden bench

I nodded as I took a sit, I turned around and looked at the garden.

The garden was beautiful, It was filled with different kinds of flowers, it was large and spacious, and the palm trees were all around the garden which gave a sense of soft chills that whistled through them. There were benches around the garden. The garden was filled with organic green flowers that gave that homely feeling.

"Beautiful" I whispered to myself

"Did you say something?" He asked

"The garden has a pleasant refreshing atmosphere" I smile

"Yeah but this is nothing compared to the city lake."

"I have heard so much about the city lake" I said

"You’ve never been there before?" He asked

“No, but my siblings have."

"That place is natural, both the atmosphere and environment. if you have time maybe I can take you there"

I knew he was going to say that.

"Thank you bu….."I didn’t finish talking when he interrupted me "But I don’t think it’s a good idea, isn’t that what you wanted to say"

I smiled at his words, it is exactly what I was going to say "Yes, but to be honest I don’t think I have enough time to go to the city lake”

"Yeah about that, I always wondered why you have to work at two different places"

I looked at him as our eyes met, I instantly lowered my gaze. "I just have to"

"Oh I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable"

"I’m not uncomfortable, anyways I think it’s time I go back to work" I said as I glanced at my watch

"Okay, I will walk you to the car"

"Thank you." I said immediately as we approached the car

I opened the door and peeked inside. Amal wasn’t in the car, where did she go?

“Is everything okay?" He asked

"Amal isn’t in the car"

"She’s over there." He pointed in her direction

Oh no, she’s still taking pictures of their car. I called out her name before she walk closer to me. “It’s time to go." I said

Once Amal drove out of the house she started giggling.

Nope, I won’t ask her why she’s giggling. She kept on giggling which was becoming very uncomfortable for me. I let out a deep breath before I spoke "What’s the matter with you?"

"Finally you said something, so tell me" She let out a breath

"Tell you what?" I rolled my eyes

"Tell me what happened, you know what I mean?"

I knew she was going to ask me such question. "We just talked and that’s it" I said. She glanced at me with a broad smile on her face, I rolled my eyes as I lean my back on the sit.
