No Reaction

Ethan's POV

James stayed at the pack with his mate. She had calmed down and was talking with Sara and James about what happened with her old pack and about Tobias. The poor girl had suffered a lot in her lifetime and when she had the chance to come here and study in order to get a good job and support her family, but now all she had was James. He didn’t care that she was an omega. The moment he saw her, he was in love with her. He explained to me that the mate bond was something out of this world and you would die for your mate the second you see them. I found it hard to believe because of the way that my Mom was with my dad.

Dad had been at the last big Lycan war with Mom staying behind to help me run the pack when I caught her cheating on him with none other than his Beta. She tried to explain to me that she was lonely and that he mistreated her, but it was actually the other way round. He worshipped the ground she walked on. When he came back, she rejected him and took his Beta as her chosen mate. Dad had died from the rejection, he lost his wolf then he couldn’t take the pain anymore and he killed himself. Mom ran away with Marcus and no one has seen them since. I was heartbroken at the loss of my family and they left me to run the kingdom at the age of eighteen. Since then, I have been ruling it. I handpicked my officials. The council stayed the same, and they were happy with the changes I made. We built this kingdom to what it is today through our blood, sweat, and tears. To the outside world, I was a ruthless leader that didn’t think twice about killing anyone that had wronged my pack or kingdom. But to our pack, everyone was equal, no matter your rank. Everyone knew how to fight, plus we gave everyone an allowance. I gave no second chances.

“Ethan, we are here.” Garrett said to me as we pulled up at the front gates.

“Welcome Alpha Ethan. Alpha Than said he will greet you out the front of the pack house.” The guard said to us. This wasn’t the same guard that was on the gate the last time we were here, but it had been about six years since I was here last. We had signed a new agreement. He was involved with the omegas that were turning up dead, but I couldn’t prove it yet.

“Garrett, we need to be on our A game here. Pay attention to everything and everyone. We only have two days to find what we can.” I linked him.

“There will be someone that talks.” We were quiet after that as we made our way down the road to the pack house. Alpha Than’s pack was right in the forest. His pack grounds were expanse, he had the fourth biggest pack in the kingdom and they knew him for being ruthless. He brought omegas as slaves. We know that much, but that is all we have been able to find out. I haven’t been able to buy off any guards or maids to gain an eye in the pack. His people were loyal. We arrived at the pack house and he was out the front with his Beta and Gamma.

“King Ethan, it’s an honor to have you and Beta Garrett here for the next two days.” He and his officials bowed. It was a sign of respect for them to do this.

“Please Than, just Ethan now. It has been far too long.”

“It has, if you would like to leave your bags, the maids will take them to your rooms. Come join me in the office. We have things to discuss. Someone will serve morning tea soon.” He was a large man, six foot four, very muscular, with short brown hair. His eyes were blue. His wolf was one of the biggest I have seen compared to my own. We got to his office, and I was a little on edge and I couldn’t tell why.

“What’s up with you?” Garrett asked me through the mind link.

“I don’t know. Something is putting me on edge. We need to be careful.” We sat down in his office as the most intoxicating smell was getting stronger in the office. It smelt like of roses with a touch of citrus. It was making Colton anxious. There was a knock at the door.

“Ah, that will be our morning tea. Come in Josie.” He spoke gently to the girl that was waiting outside the door. As the door opened, that smell hit me full force.

“MATE, MATE.” Colton roared in my head. There was my mate. I had never seen a woman like her before, stunning in such an innocent way. Her height was close to six feet, but she smelt like an omega. She had long, lush curls that were blonde with the biggest blue eyes. She didn’t react, though, which caused Colton to worry.

“Colton, you need to settle. We have our mate, Sara. We are going to have to let this poor girl down, but she isn’t reacting. Can she feel the mate bond?” I asked Colton. It confused him, as it seemed we weren’t getting anything from this girl. She walked over with the trolley and stood by the desk.

“It’s ok Jocelyn, you may serve the morning tea.” He spoke fondly towards her. She looked up at Than and smiled.

“Would Alpha and his guests like any tea or coffee?” She asked politely.

“Jocelyn, this is Alpha King Ethan and his Beta Garrett.” Than explained to her. She bowed to the both of us.

“It is lovely to meet you King Ethan and also yourself Beta Garrett.” She bowed again.

“No, thank you Jocelyn.” Garrett said to her, not even looking twice at her. She looked at me as if waiting for my answer, but I was lost in her eyes. It was like she was lifeless. It was like she was void of all emotions.

“No, thank you Jocelyn.” I replied to her. Colton was whimpering in my head, because our mate was ignoring us. I wanted to go to her and touch her cheek but we already had a Luna, my chosen mate Sara. I was going to have to talk to Than about this.

“Garrett, do not react, but it seems this girl is my mate. But she has not reacted to us.” I said through the link.

“Are you serious? What the hell are you going to do, Ethan? What about Sara?” He was worried.

“Don’t stress, I am going to have to talk to Than and I will have to reject her.” Colton whined in my head again. We were both sad, but we knew it was the right decision.

“Josie honey, go back to Luna Cleo and we will see at dinner time, ok?” The way he spoke to her sent shivers down my spine. He was caring, but there was also lust there. Shit, she was one of his slaves. Garrett looked sideways at me as he picked up the same thing. She looked at her Alpha and then left the office. As soon as the door was closed, I looked at Than.

“The girl. We need to talk about her.” He raised his eyebrows at me.

“Her contract with me is up in two days. What did you want to know?” He asked me.

“She is my mate.” His eyes went wide with shock.

“Well, that changes things. What are you going to do with her Alpha? Luna and I are quite fond of the lass.” He warned me.

“I am guessing she is one of your girls? Don’t worry, I need to talk to my Luna, but I will have to let the girl down easy. It seems that she didn’t react to the mate bond. Will she survive if I reject her?” I asked him.

“Yes, she is one of my girls. She has two days left and even though she is an omega, she is stronger than even some of my head warriors.”

“Where is she from? She looks familiar.”

“She is from the Crescent Moon pack. Her former father, the former Alpha, sold her to me nearly six years ago.” He explained. She was the girl that I had been trying to find for the last six years for the former Luna of that pack. I was looking at her file last night.

“Would you mind if I had a talk with her later, maybe go for a walk with her?” I asked him, even though she was my mate. I had to ask because I already had a chosen mate and she had a contract with Alpha Than. We could easily just take her, but I didn’t want her to hate me more than what she was already going to. For the next few hours, we talked about the pack and the missing omegas. Alpha Than admitted to buying the omegas, but he had certificates for each of them and death certificates for the ones that couldn’t take his punishment. He explained to us that he wrote up a contract with them, coming to an agreement about what was going to happen and if the omega agreed she signed if not they were sold to the next Alpha. He even showed us the contract he had drawn up between him and Jocelyn.

“Fuck Garrett, are you reading this? Look at what she has had to go through the last six years. She had no life in her eyes. It was like she had no soul left. How the hell can I reject her now?” My heart was hurting. There was pain. My phone was ringing. It was Sara.

“Alpha Than, do you have somewhere I can talk to my Luna in private?” I asked him.

“Through the back there, Alpha, it’s a soundproof room.” He explained, pointing towards the door. I entered the room and answered the phone.

“Babe, is everything ok? I can feel your pain through the bond.” Her voice instantly calmed us. She had always had this effect on me.

“Baby, I found my mate.” Was all I said.

“What happened? Explain everything to me.” She replied. She wasn’t angry at all.
