Davina
I wake up in the infirmary. It’s one of the first buildings we created. Kale and Katerina are smiling at me as my blurred vision adjusts.
“Oh my goodness Davina, you scared me to death,” says Katerina.
“Derek would kill me if anything happened to you,” jokes Kale.
“What happened?”
“You collapsed,” Kale informs me.
“Why didn’t you tell me,” whines Katerina.
“Tell you what?”
“That you’re pregnant.”
“Oh. I wasn’t a hundred precent sure. This doesn’t feel like my last pregnancies.”
“That’s because it’s not like your other ones,” says Katla as she enters the room with my uncle Gabriel.
The look on her face is full of sadness and I am not sure I want to hear what she has to tell me. My uncle looks at me like I am going to break.
“Wh
DavinaKatla is gathering all the dragon elders. It’s apparently tradition for them all to be present when finding out the gender of a new baby. I am not sure what exactly happens during this ritual but I trust the elders. Typically outsiders are not suppose to be present but due to this baby being part wolf my sister and brother-in-law have been welcomed. With the mating between dragons and wolves, there will be no such thing as outsiders anymore anyway.“Where are we going,” I ask.“We found the pool where this ritual use to take place,” says elder Lumi.“We are excited to finally perform this ritual where all our ancestors did before us,” elder Anil says excitedly.“The last ritual was performed on your mother with you,” elder Chandra informs.“Really?”“Yes, the previous elders performed the ritual
DerekSomething is wrong with Davina. I can feel her pain and and panic. It has brought me to my knees and I my mom freaking out. I knew something was wrong when Davina sent the twins back early without her. I wonder if Katerina knew and kept it from me.“Derek what is wrong,” asks my mom in a panicked tone.I can’t answer her. It feels as though I am being electrocuted and my body is not my own as it writhes in pain.“Shit, Derek!”I am sure I see Mark but I don't pay attention to my surroundings as I focus on my breathing. I can feel the pain subsiding and slowly push myself up off the ground. I have scared the twins, they are crying in Aspen’s arms.“I’m fine now, Daddy is fine.”The twins rush to me and tackle me into a
KaterinaI wake up to a blinding light in my eye and a splitting head ache. I shove the light out of my face and try to sit up.“Whoa there Kat. Take it easy.”My vision adjusts and I see Dr. Ase and Tanisha.“What happened?”“You hit your head pretty hard during the rogue attack, but you will be okay.”Realization hits me and I panic.“Where is Accalia? Is she okay? Why were they after her?”“Slow down Kat. I will go get Alpha. Accalia is fine,” says Tanisha as she gets up and leaves the room.Dr. Ase has me several tests to ensure my brain is still working. I try my best to not roll my eyes as he treats me like a child. He has me spread my arms out and touch my pointer finger to my nose, checks my reflexes and my balance. I swear he is going over boa
Derek As soon as I had packed all the essentials, River, the twins and I teleported to the dragon realm. I take in my surroundings and smile. My mate has done a wonderful job overseeing this project. The school has been completed and it seems it’s already up and running. The castle looks near complete and the individual houses are almost done as well. They homes are simple structures made out of wood. The training grounds has also been completed and I see dragons training in their human forms. That’s good, they need to be able to fight in both forms. The dragons appear happy. In the far distance I see my mate. She is talking to some construction workers and hasn’t realized I am here. She appears fine, like nothing had ever happened. I bend down to the twins and whisper to them, pointing at their mother. They squeal with excitement and run to her. “Mommy!” Davina turns and her face lights up with a smile. She bends down so the twins can run into her arms. My heart swells at the sc
Alastor That stupid prince is getting on my nerves. He again as prevented my rogues from obtaining one of Davina’s children. We would have Accalia by now if it weren’t for his interference. It’s time we did something about that. “Sir, you called for me.” I have had so many generals that I’ve stopped trying to remember their names. This one probably won’t last a week. “Prepare an attack on the elf realm.” “Sir? They are highly skilled warriors. We don’t stand a chance.” I glare at him for questioning and growl. He stumbles backwards before stuttering. “Yyyess sirrr. I’ll prepppare the warriors.” If I kill him, then they’ll never be able to save Maliyah’s future. She’ll be mine for sure. Maliyah As soon as I see the pack house in view I collapse. Everything has gone dark. Did I die? Did I use too much power and kill myself? I feel like I should be cold as death takes over but what I feel is warmth and love. I look to my left and see a light. I really must’ve died if I am see
AspenAs soon as I arrive home I rush to my parents chambers. Several elves bow and pay their respects but I don’t pay them any mind. I know my mother is close to giving birth and I fear that whatever Maliyah saw, we could end up losing both my unborn sister and mother. I don’t bother to knock as I push open the door to their room and look out their window to ensure no one is creeping up on the castle.“Aspen, what is wrong,” asks my mother.“How has everything been here? Any threats? Attacks?”“No, everything has been calm son. What is going on,” asks my father.“I reached Maliyah…”“That is wonderful son. Did she wake up,” asks my mother, interrupting me.“No, she shoved me out of her mind.”“That’s odd. Why did she do that?”“She had a vision dad. She saw mom die.”The room goes silent. The look on father’s face is fear. Fear for losing his queen, my mother. Maliyah has never been wrong and we both know it. Those who had visions in the past were always right. This is happening. Eve
AspenIt’s been three months since I left Maliyah. She never did say when the attack would happen and I haven’t been able to bring myself to leave my mother’s side. I feared if I left the attack would happen and I wouldn’t get back in time to save my mother. Davina is four months into her pregnancy with about two months to go. My mother is due any day now, though I am sure she has been in labor for the past six hours.“Mother, are you sure you are alright. You have been having these pains since last night.”“Actually son, I am sure I am in labor.”My mother is concentrating on her breathing as she paces the room while rubbing her hand along her belly. I knew it. Soon I’ll get to meet my little sister, Ada. “I’ll get our healer to prepare for the birth.”Mother nods at me as father rubs her back. She is bending forward with her hands on the bedpost as another contraction hits her. I rush to the healers room and have them return with me. They are running around prepping the room with h
AspenI awake and try to focus my vision so I can identify where I am at. I relax once I realize I am in our infirmary. I sit up too fast as I recall the invasion of rogues. I had ran to protect some children that did not get to a bunk room on time. That damn lion got me good. Anything that happened afterwards is a blur. The room is spinning and I realize my arm is in a sling when I try to move it. I have several stitches on my thigh and there are bandages wrapped around my head. I hope I look better than the lion.“Thank the spirits you’re alive.”I look over and find my father staring at me. He looks as though he hasn’t slept in days and his eye appear broken. I look around the room for my mother and don’t see her anywhere in sight. I look back at my father and he has tears in his eyes. He knows who I am looking for. A tear falls as I try to remain in control of my emotions. We knew
Maliyah“Maliyah, the guests are arriving!”“Coming mom!”I quickly finish doing my hair in a half up pony tail style and curl it before doing my make up. I can’t believe it’s been almost five years since the war ended and here we are, celebrating my sixteenth birthday. I stop by my nightstand with my sister’s picture and use my powers to make the flowers in the vase bloom again.“Happy birthday sis,” I whisper as I head for the door.I throw on my Ariat boots, hoping towards the door as I put on one at a time. I almost collide with my door trying to put on my last boot as I grab the handle to open the door only to end up running into Aspen. I nearly fall backwards onto the floor, but Aspen reaches out and catches my arm to steady me.
DavinaI wake with a start that it startles Derek. Sweat is dripping down my face as Derek gently cups my face.“What’s wrong love,” he says looking around the room for an intruder.“I got to say goodbye to Malayah,” I whisper. He looks at me confused.“Okay, but what has you so scared?”I turn to Derek, making sure he is listening carefully. Worry is evident on his face as I take deep breaths to calm my racing heart. I need someone else to know what she told me.“Malayah said, ‘Beware of the new comer, darkness will come for her’.”“What does that even mean?”“I don’t know. I don’t even know exactly who she was talking about, but I think it’s Maliyah. I think she was talking about Maliyah and whoever Maliyah saw in t
DavinaThe twins have fallen asleep, Thierry on Derek, Accalia on Calista and Aiden in my arms. Everyone begins going home and we had back into the pack house. We lay the kids down for bed as does Mark and Daniela. It’s nice to see the children together, safe and sound and back to what was once normal. Things may not go back to what they were but we can find a new normal for our family. The last thing I do is prepare a room for my mother with the help of Kat and Daniela. We put her next to Calista as they seem to have hit it off and have become fast friends. I am over the moon that I get to have this opportunity to get to know my mother and learn more about my family. There is so much I don’t know. With mom back in the picture, it seems to have changed things for Kat. Now that Kat has been spending time with our mother and her granddaughter
DavinaWhen we all heard Derek and Maliyah playing I immediately mind link the whole pack to meet at the memorial. Our family gathered at it’s entrance, tears forming in our eyes. I haven’t heard her play in a long time. As pack members began arriving I open the back doors so they can hear too and started passing out candles and lighting them. Once everyone has a candle, I teleport Maliyah and Derek next to the memorial and they don’t miss a note. Families begin stepping up to the memorial and placing beautiful flower arrangements at the base.Dimitri utters a spell under his breath and tells me the flowers will never die, they will remain frozen in time. Celestia and Calista help pass out the Chinese sky lanterns and pens so everyone can write a message or just the name of a loved one that has been lost. I make one for my uncle Gabriel and parents that raised me as they now have no one le
MaliyahI can’t believe what I woke up to. Dr. Smith has been examining me and taking MRI’s of my brain. I am still in shock at everything I am being told. Mom and dad tell me everything I appear to be forgetting. We take several breaks as I am constantly crying over things I have forgotten.I remember some of the information they are telling me but not all of it. After a while I did start to remember the day my sister died but it still doesn’t feel real. I don’t remember being in a coma before and waking up to having another little brother. Uncle Kale died as well as uncle Gabriel and I haven’t been able to accept that yet.Uncle Gabriel has been around all my life, even before I learned what I was. I never imagined I would have to live my life without him.“Ma
DavinaWe’ve been in the dragon realm for the past week; going back and forth to the forbidden realm to explore it more. We want to ensure we had all he details, which Dimitri has written down so we won’t ever forget this day we now call The Day of Retaliation. It’ll always be a day we will mourn as many loved ones were lost that day, but we fought back against my brother and won. I wish there would’ve been another way, but my brother was too far gone. Once we were sure we didn’t miss anything, Dimitri and his coven sealed the realm away forever. The shifter counsel all agreed that it will be against our laws to step foot into that realm so it was best to seal it away to stop temptation. The horse shifters have been learning about the human world as it has changed a lot than from what their ancestors had told them. Technology is a new thing for them and they will remain on bear
DavinaIt’s finally over. It’s been six years since Derek came into my life and my world was turned upside down. Six years after finding out I was not at all human. My heart mourns for those that I have lost in all that time. The parents that raised me, my uncle Gabriel, Thierry who was like a second uncle to me and my biological parents though I didn’t even know it yet.My heart hurts for my sister. She has been an empty shell since we killed Alastor. She remains at Kale’s side though his soul is no longer attached to his body. He’s gone and there is nothing I can really do to comfort her.“Mom, let’s get you something to eat and drink. Please,” begs River but Kat doesn’t respond. She continues to stare at his body and grasp his hand. I think
Davina The minute Maliyah became unconscious her swirl of power dissipated. I drop the sphere of wind and see the zombie creatures are dropping one by one. I rush to Maliyah’s side in a panic with Kat right at my heals. “Maliyah!” Her head is bleeding badly and she is not responding at all. I quickly teleport her to Dr. Smith. “What happened,” asks Dr. Smith. “She hit her head on a rock and I am afraid she used more power than she can handle.” Kat pulls me away from Maliyah to give Dr. Smith room to work and I reluctantly back away. “Davina!” I look up and see Mark and Derek running into the tent. I can feel he is just as scared as I am right now. “Thank Ryuu you are okay. What happened to Maliyah?”
Davina “Maliyah we need you,” I yell through the mind link. Kat and I are trying to finish this once and for all but we both know we won’t win without Maliyah. Alastor creates a sphere of wind around him, pushing Kat and I off of him. I quickly search the field for Maliyah and instantly see what she is doing. Her vision of Derek and Mark dying, it’s happening. “We need Maliyah,” says Kat through the link. “She is needed else where right now. We need to keep him distracted long enough for her to accomplish what is needed and return to us,” I reply. Kat doesn’t question what I mean. We trust each other completely and I know we can hold him off until Maliyah comes back. “You two are a thorn in my side. It’s time for me to be an only child,” growls out Alastor. I know we a
