With a trembling voice, Horace begged, "Matthias—

"No, Lord Matthias! Please, spare me!

"I'm in the wrong. I know I'm in the wrong. I'm willing to give up all my family's assets; just spare my life!"

Horace knelt on the ground, too terrified to even look up at Matthias.

Matthias looked at him indifferently.

Then, he glanced at Gerald, who still hung on the gate.

Gerald noticed Matthias looking his way, and he was so frightened that he soiled himself.

"Matthias, I'm in the wrong. I admit it. I was deceived. It was the Whitneys who tricked me. I didn't know the truth!" Gerald pleaded, his body shaking uncontrollably.

He had always believed that the Vaughn family ruled St. Merilo and that even the fiercest outsider had to bow to them.

However, his belief was utterly shattered, and he realized just how naive he had been.
