Chapter 10

"You're quite powerful, yet you're pretending to be a mere guard. Are you trying to intimidate me?" River questioned.

He believed the person he was up against must be a hidden master, pretending to be a simple guard just to intimidate the Vaughn family.

Such tricks were nothing new to him, and he was not easily intimidated.

The four guards were merely regular members of the Legion of the Unbreakable, and they exchanged disdainful glances at River before turning back to their posts without saying a word.

To them, River's assumptions were laughable.

They were the lowest-ranking members of the Legion, stationed at the gate as a routine duty.

Nonetheless, it was no surprise that River would think so.

His misunderstanding proved how powerful the Legion of the Unbreakable was—so overwhelming that people like him could not even fathom it.

When no one responded to him, River's anger flared.

His voice was filled with frustration and fury as he shouted, "Who sent you? Get your leader! I'm River Vaughn!"

With a loud clang, the gates of the Whitney residence swung open, and Alpha stepped out with a hint of mockery in his eyes.

"They sent their dog here? Where's Horace? Why isn't the father of this pitiful creature here to face me himself?"

Alpha's tone was cold and dismissive as he glanced briefly at River.

In the background, Gerald was half-conscious from the torture, and he finally stirred at the sound of River's voice.

His eyes widened with desperation as he cried out weakly, "Uncle River... Save me! Please, save me! Kill these bastards!"

"Shut up! Don't make so much noise!" Alpha snapped, annoyed by the commotion

He grabbed a bucket of chili water and poured it directly over Gerald, causing him to scream in pain.

"Gerald!" River shouted, his eyes turning red with anger as he witnessed the brutal treatment of Gerald.

He had not expected that they would be so audacious as to torture Gerald right in front of him!

"You're asking for death!" River glared at Alpha, ready to step forward and teach him a lesson.

However, before he could move, the four Unbreakables at the gate instantly formed a solid wall of bodies, blocking his way.

River stopped in his tracks, glancing warily at the guards he had faced earlier.

Their sheer presence forced him to halt.

River clenched his fists and spoke through gritted teeth, "How dare you! Do you have any idea what you're doing? Do you understand what it means to be enemies with the Vaughn family?

"You're courting death! No one in St. Merilo has ever dared to provoke the Vaughn family like this!"

"Well, now there is!" Alpha retorted coldly, casting a dismissive glance at River.

"Likewise, do you know what you're doing? If it weren't for my lord's orders to make you suffer, the Vaughn family would've already been decimated overnight!"

River's eyes gone wild with fire, his face contorted with rage.

The Vaughn family was the reigning power in St. Merilo, and to provoke them was to court death.

Yet, the leader dared to boast and claimed he could erase the Vaughn family overnight!

River thought it was laughable.

After all, even the governor's office could not take down the Vaughn family in a single night.

"Aren't you a big-talker? Since you're so bold as to challenge us, you must be well aware of the Vaughn family's terrifying power," River said, his voice slow and deliberate.

"I'm River Vaughn, and I believe you know who I am. I'm giving you a chance. Release Gerald, cripple Matthias, and have your men kneel outside the Whitney residence to confess.

"Horace will personally deal with you come nightfall!"

River was confident that those people were no match for the Vaughn family.

Alpha chuckled, not even bothering to look at River.

Instead, he instructed those torturing Gerald, "Make sure he suffers. If he passes out, wake him up with some chili water."

"Don't you dare!" River shouted, outraged.

He had already invoked Horace's name and offered them a chance to surrender, yet they dared to go even further.

Alpha scoffed. "Why are you here, barking like a mad dog? Do you think the Vaughn family has already won? Do you even know how terrifying your opponent is this time?"

He thought River was not worth his attention, and even talking to him was an act of great patience.

River's face turned crimson with anger as he glared at Alpha, gritting his teeth.

"Fine! You've got guts! Let's see if you can still act so arrogant by nightfall!"

Alpha and his men remained calm, utterly dismissing River's threats.

If it were not for their desire to exact severe torture on those who had wronged Leona and Danielle, their enemies would have already been dead!

Gradually, more and more convoys arrived near the Whitney residence, and many people stepped out of the cars.

Each had weapons wrapped in newspaper, glaring coldly at the entire place.

The Vaughn family members stood behind River in neat rows, their eyes filled with murderous intent.

River's face showed growing satisfaction as he looked at Alpha and his men with disdain, believing they were finally scared.

Nonetheless, that was just the beginning!

Their enemies would be driven to despair when the Vaughn family unleashed its full power.

Alpha remained calm, sitting by the gate, unconcerned with the situation around him.

As more people arrived, he became more excited, as it meant more targets for the Unbreakables.

Unknown to the Vaughn family, the Unbreakables had already encircled St. Merilo early in the morning.

If anyone tried to leave St. Merilo, they would be horrified to find the town sealed off!

The Legion of the Unbreakable had formed a perimeter around St. Merilo to prevent any Vaughns or others who had wronged Leona and Danielle from escaping.

Matthias had made up his mind to cause massive chaos in St. Merilo.

His primary goals were to avenge his family and to send a message to those in New Avalbourne.

Though Matthias was their ally, he wanted to show them that he would not tolerate any harm to his family.

Gradually, a dense crowd gathered outside the Whitney residence.

A rough estimate put the number at over 600 people, with more arriving.

River had an oversized chair brought out, and he sat opposite Alpha, his eyes filled with killing intent and contempt.

"Do you see this? This is just a fraction of the Vaughn family's power. What you see now is only a tiny part of our strength.

"Are you scared now? Do you regret your actions?" River commented, his voice dripping with confidence.
