Caiden watched in trepidation as the demon walked through the traffic and through the wall of the café. This was the first time he had encountered another demon in the human realm.

Whatever happened here, he needed to hide his real relationship with Clara. He didn’t want other demons to know he was dating the human he was contracted to.

“I’d say hello to the lovely young lady here,” the demon said. “But I know she won’t be able to see or hear me.”

“No, she won’t,” Caiden said. “Clara, the demon is here next to you.”

Clara went pale and Caiden tried his best to not look concerned for her. When the other demon was gone, he could reassure her. For now, he needed to act like she was just a human and meant nothing special to him.

The demon bowed to him.

“I was not expecting to see you here, your majesty. I recognised you immediately. You are very distinctive as the prince of the demons.”

Caiden stared back at the unknown demon. There had to have been a mistake, he was just a l

Caiden didn’t feel that he deserved her thanks. He had made a contract with Clara for her soul. The only difference between him and Azrael was his purer intentions. “Please don’t thank me like that. I’m still going to have to take your soul,” he reminded her. “I know,” Clara said weakly. “You’re different, you’re not evil.” Caiden hugged her tightly and thought about the implications of their new knowledge. He didn’t know how good Azrael's relationship with Beckah was. Would he tell Beckah that he had met another demon attached to someone else who was in the boutique? If Beckah found out that Clara was also contracted to a demon, she might act differently. Caiden frowned when he realised that Azrael might already know about Clara’s revenge if he had looked into Beckah’s future. Caiden had always known that Clara would succeed with revenge against her intended targets because he could see her future. That had never changed so far. If Azrael checked Beckah’s future, he wo

The demon prince had never been missing at all. He had just had his memories removed and didn’t know who he really was. Now Caiden knew Azrael had been telling the truth earlier. His reply claiming that he wasn’t the demon prince had told Azrael that he still didn’t know the truth and the demon had hurriedly fallen in line with the lie. His favourable treatment had been because he was the prince of the demons and not because anyone genuinely liked him. “Um, can you act like we didn’t tell you anything?” Ben requested awkwardly. “We slipped up.” That comment further confirmed that older demons knew who he really was and weren’t supposed to tell him anything. “I won’t say anything,” Caiden said. He stood up and stormed off in the direction of the royal castle. There was one person he could talk to who would settle this. The demon king. He was almost certain that he had to be the demon prince. It was the only explanation for the oddities surrounding him. The demon king had

The demon king touched his forehead with a gentle touch and Caiden slumped in his throne as he was hit with the entirety of his lost memories. His name was Caiden de Lac and he was the prince of the demons. His mother was the queen of the demonesses and he hadn’t seen her since he was very young. He knew all the high-ranking demons as he lived in the castle and had played with them when he was a child. His father had knocked him out and taken his memories on the day after his 18th birthday and now he was here several years later. Caiden took a deep breath to steady himself as he added his old memories to the new ones from the past four years. It was useful that he had stayed a kind hearted demon when he had been an amnesiac. His new personality was practically the same as his original one. “Are you feeling sick at all?” his father asked in concern. “I’m fine,” he said. He was lucky that he had no traumatising memories in his past. Clara had not taken the onslaught of Clar

It was spur of the moment guess. Clara was never really expecting Caiden to look at her sharply like she had hit on the truth. “How did you guess?” he asked. Clara stepped out of the hug and looked him up and down. He was the same demon he always was, but now he did feel like a prince. Something must have happened in the demon realm. “It was just an impulsive guess,” she said. “You’re suddenly wearing a crown and you feel more regal than you usually are. I also already know about the existence of a demon prince. Are you really the demon prince?” He had to be. He wouldn’t have come back to the human world with a crown on his head just to look nice for her. “I am the demon prince. My father wiped my memories four years ago and turned me into a low-level demon so I could prove myself,” Caiden explained. “I can explain everything to you.” Clara sat back down on the couch and Caiden told her the full story. “It’s strange to think that you were the missing demon prince all along,” sh

The Autumn Fashion Social was two days away. Clara had gone to purchase her outfit and had then been thrown into a series of revelations. Now that she had survived her first encounter with her targets and knew Caiden was the missing demon prince, she needed to get back on track. “Well, I’ve already upstaged them by taking the best outfit. James has told me that the fashion world is very stuck up and old fashioned so I can see ways to belittle them in front of other guests,” Clara said. “I also have an advantage with my nationality. The event is about British designers and I will know a lot more about them than those three do.” Caiden’s eyes became unfocused for a moment and then he blinked. Clara guessed he had quickly looked at her future. “That’s a good call. There will be a quiz at the party about British fashion,” he said. “You will be the winner of that. I think you did a lot of reading before the event though.” Clara took out her notebook and wrote down that point. She di

Clara analysed their outfits. She was able to tell that their outfits were all from the same boutique she had seen them in. None of them were as good as the one she had managed to buy. Joey had gone for a very short purple dress with a daring neckline presumably to show off her long legs. Heather was in a bright shift yellow dress and had gone overboard with her eyeliner presumably to show that she was going for a sixties inspired look. Beckah who was leading the group was dressed in a classic black dress accessorised with a pearl necklace and red lipstick. Their outfits all fitted the theme, but Clara wasn’t sure about all of them. A top rule in fashion was not to flash everything like Joey was. Sixties fashion was not currently having a revival. Beckah was the best dressed out of all of them. That fact annoyed Clara. “Interesting combination,” Caiden commented. “You look far better than them.” Clara smiled. “Thanks, Caiden.” It was noisy enough at the event to be able to h

Clara’s heartbeat started to speed up rapidly. Beckah might just be too observant for her plan to succeed. “Calm down, there’s no demon on her right now; she’s just really sharp,” Caiden said to her. “Just go with the flow. She’s just trying to sound you out.” Clara gave her bully a tense smile. “The fashion world can be so bitchy,” she said. “I’ve already been given so many bitchy looks already and I’ve been saying hello to everyone.” Beckah’s gaze moved off her and Clara hoped that she had got away with it. “Coming here has been considerably more difficult than I expected,” Beckah said. “At least there’s a quiz to look forward later. I’m quite interested in fashion so I should do well.” “Do you work in a fashion related field?” Clara asked with interest. “I help out at St. Clair regularly.” “My family owns an investment business and we’ve invested in a lot of fashion companies,” Beckah said. “I’m personally interested in fashion and I would love to have my own brand one day.”

Caiden smiled at her and took her hand. “Let’s go to the fountain,” he said. Clara left the hall and walked outside to where the fountain was. She and Caiden had performed some tests over the past week and had concluded that the demon could now physically interact with other humans. She took out her phone and began to film her surroundings. As she hoped, the three bullies came out the hall as she was filming. Clara waved at them and they all glared back. There was no chance they were going to be friends now and Clara was completely fine with that. She focused her camera on the fountain and as the three targets walked past the fountain, Caiden pushed them. Heather fell into the fountain first and took Beckah with her. Joey who had been the furthest from Caiden fell in last on top of Beckah. Clara resisted the temptation to smile and carried on filming. After the three surfaced, she put her phone down. “Are you okay?” she asked. “Do you need help getting out?” It was dark outsid

“I’m getting married!” Clara announced happily. She smiled over her coffee and Arthur watched her with a bemused look on his face. "When is the wedding?" he asked. “Next month,” Clara told him. “I was planning to invite you. We’ve only just decided on the date so there’s no invitations to give out yet.” “Do you not have wedding planner then?” the hacker questioned. “Invitations are normally sent out much sooner.” “I don’t want a big wedding,” Clara replied. “James was fine with it and just asked that I invite him.” She was a little surprised that her grandfather had agreed with her desire to have a very small wedding. They both enjoyed high positions in society and people like them normally had grand weddings with a long guest list and a high budget. “I shall consider an invite as a great honour then,” Arthur quipped. “How many guests are invited?” “I’m inviting 12 people,” Clara said. “Caiden has invited a couple of friends. He doesn’t have any relations to invite.” “Of cour

Their first month of dating passed by quickly. They soon fell into a routine of meeting after work and going on dates. Clara was blissfully happy, but she knew they needed to discuss their future together. Caiden was only living temporarily in the UK after all. She chose to ask after they had finished eating Caiden’s latest attempt at a home cooked romantic meal. His cooking skills were unique to say the least. “Are you going to stay here in London when your job here is finished?” she asked. “Where would you like to live?” he questioned. “Here or in a different country? We have lots of options.” Clara thought about the matter seriously. She had grown up in the US and had been unexpectedly pulled into a different country. She did prefer living in the UK, but there were other countries to try as well. “We can move around,” Clara said. “I think we should make this our main country and travel to other places. That is if you want to. This is a decision we should make as a couple.” Ca

Clara kept a careful watch on the office building opposite so she wouldn’t miss seeing Caiden leave when his work day had finished. She had already missed seeing him before, she wasn’t going to do it again. Fortunately, he was one of the first people out of the building and Clara immediately began to pack up everything she had brought with her. Caiden entered the coffeeshop and beamed when he saw her waiting by the door. “Excellent. You’re ready to leave on our date,” he said and held his hand out to her. “Can we take a diversion first?” she requested. It was only fair to let Arthur know that she had found Caiden, but she had decided a text wouldn’t suffice and it was better to let them meet in person. “Will it take long?” “I want to introduce you to someone,” she explained. “Arthur has been helping me look for you and I think he would like to see the success of our search.” Caiden looked thoughtful and then he nodded. “I would like to meet him. When Clara finally looked up from her phone and glanced back at the door, the person she had been waiting for had already left. She had missed a lot in the two minutes her attention had been diverted.A member of staff approached her table with a cup of coffee in her hand. Clara looked around in confusion. “I didn’t order anything,” she said. Clara was aware that she was the strangest customer in the coffeeshop and the staff were probably wondering when she was going to leave. She had been the first customer of the day and had only ordered two drinks in the past three hours. “One of our regulars came in a couple of minutes ago to pick up his online order. He saw you looking tired and bought an expresso for you,” the staff member explained with a smile. “He’s a nice person.” Clara blinked in surprise. She had never noticed any of the customers paying attention to her. The incident must have occurred when she had been occupied with her phone. She checked the name tag on the girl’s

The weeks quickly turned into months and soon an entire year had passed. Clara had taken a position at St. Clair that had enabled her to travel around the world just so she would have better chance of finding Caiden. She returned to the family mansion on the anniversary of her return from the demon realm after an unsuccessful trip to New York. Her actual work had gone well, she just hadn’t found any signs of Caiden in the city. There hadn’t been any traces of Caiden in any of the 10 countries she had travelled to over the past year. He didn’t have any presence on the internet either and Clara didn’t have any idea of how she could improve her search methods. Clara collapsed onto her bed and closed her eyes. She was physically and emotionally exhausted from her search. Despite everything, she wasn’t going to give up. She would sleep for a while and then she would look at other highly populated places to visit. “Clara Kennedy.” Clara’s eyes opened immediately at the sound of

Clara landed on the floor of her bedroom alone and fully aware of the gravity of the situation. She didn’t have Caiden at her side anymore. She needed to find him for that to happen. Clara stood up and realised that her legs were shaking. She had been feeling intimidated by the demon king and had refused to let him know. Now her nerves and lack of sleep had got to her. She took a deep breath to calm down. She had vowed that she would be able to find Caiden and she needed to start working on that. One person came to mind immediately. Arthur would be able to help her. She took her phone out of her pocket and called him. “...Hello?” Arthur asked cautiously when he picked up the call. Clara realised he had assumed that the phone call was someone else using her phone to inform him of her death. “It’s me, Clara,” she told him immediately. “Things have changed. Can we meet up? I have a lot to tell you.” “Of course,” he said. “I think we'll need to go somewhere that allows for private c

Caiden was lost for words as he watched the events that he had foreseen so many times play out in front of him. It was no longer a vision of the future; it was happening in reality. It was finally the end of Clara’s life. Her soul floated in front of him as her eyes slowly closed. Caiden made his decision in that moment. He grabbed hold of Clara’s soul with his hands and pushed it back into her. Despite being very light, her soul wouldn’t move until he exerted all of his power. Clara’s eyes snapped open when her soul returned to her. “...What’s going on?” she asked breathlessly. “I can’t take your soul,” Caiden admitted. “I want you to keep it.” He had no real idea what was going to happen now. The contract had not been fulfilled properly. He had completed his part of the contract and he had stopped Clara from fulfilling her part. There was no precedent to follow here. He was the first demon to refuse a soul. “What’s going to happen to both of us?” Clara questioned weakl

Clara knew that her grandfather was confused to hear her sentimental words. They rarely talked about their personal feelings. “I haven’t been the best grandfather,” James replied with a deep frown. “I brought Beryl here to be your mother figure as I had felt that it would prevent you from becoming like my daughter. It turned out to be the worst decision I have ever made.” Clara could not deny that James’ decision to date Beryl and bring her into the family had been lethal for Clarissa. She decided to focus on something else. “Thank you for rescuing me when I was a baby,” she said. “I’m sure Clara would also thank you for looking for her.” “You don’t need to thank me for that,” James replied. “I would also like to thank you for taking me in instead of leaving me to the care system,” Clara continued. She didn’t know much about the British care system, but it was likely similar to the American one she had lived through. She had been lucky to be adopted by a decent set of foster pa

“It was a good ride,” Arthur said with a wink. “You kept me guessing for so many years. I’m so pleased to finally know what was going on the entire time.” Clara relaxed. The hardest part was over now. “Is everything over now?” he asked a moment later. “You’ve brought all of your targets down apart from Xavier King.” “It is,” she confirmed. Arthur nodded and then he looked deep in thought. He coughed awkwardly before speaking again. “Where did Clarissa go if you are in her body?” he questioned. Clara had been expecting this question. Arthur was the only person who had a connection to Clarissa and knew that she was using her body. It would have been odd if he didn’t ask where Clarissa had gone. “...She died when she committed suicide four years ago,” she explained. “Her body was alive for a short time and I was put into it. I’m sorry to tell that she died all that time ago.” Arthur frowned and looked away. “I see... That’s sad,” he said. “It’s odd to hear that Clariss
