Maxwell's POV

Petra called him at eleven pm, and couldn't stop talking about Wilson.

"Max!, you didn't remember to tell me she was gorgeous!." She sang over the back ground chaos of her husband yelling at their kids not to kill each other.

He sighed, dragging a hand over his face. He had a long stress filled day, that wasn't over yet. With a lot of work on his table, he didn't need her prying self. The night was especially hot and it was killing his work progress.

A mail arrived earlier and he was informed that his deadline was shifted up. So since he got home, he buried himself under piles and piles of papers work, locking himself away in his office.

The moonlight peeked in from the large sliding doors that led to the patio, casting a shadow over the large book shelf. He could hear the distant hoot of the owls on the trees, and the crickets in the mud, the sweet soothing sound of natu

Although she had only been working a week, easing into the work atmosphere was definitely easy. Besides, the clinic was yet to be properly opened so all she did was organize her boss's emails and report the last details of work needed to be done to the place. The only issue was her sleeping routine. For a whole year she used to stay up all night working. Unlike now, she was awake both at night, due to her nightmares and all day attendng classes or at work. So she was tired a lot. Settling for her old high school gold prom dress, she got ready. Shoes weren't an issue, although cheap and thrifted - she had a number of them from stripping. The dress was tight, extremely, it had been almost three years since she wore it. She wanted to sell it when s

*Edited Maxwell's POV His frown deepened as he noticed Martha walk in. The monotone business conversation that he paid no attention to in the first place and the slow jazz music in the background blurred around him. After his speech earlier as one of the partners, he had been swarmed by business men trying to pitch to him, but he wasn't interested, he already had enough on his plate business-wise. Some even brought their sisters or nieces to set him up with. He had tired one too many blind dates from networking events like this to know better than to show any interest. His eyes met with Petra's and she gave him a sly smile before walking to meet Martha. Looking around frantically, he found Wilson, by herself looking into a glass of wine suspiciously in front of her. With only one thing on his mind, 'to get her away from Martha' he walked briskly towards her. Before they could get to her and start drilling her with questions that would forever ruin him in the eyes of his innocent

*Edited Breanna's POV She walked around for a while, inhaling the cold windy air. Rain was coming, she could feel it. But she didn't want to go back into the party. Not after what happened with Professor Caines. She just wanted to go home. But she was stranded, a long way from home without a ride because he was the one that brought her here. She knew he didn't like her, he didn't come off across like he liked anybody though. With the recent changes in her life, she was glad for his help but she didn't need him to baby sit. She was perfectly capable of handling herself among a few business people. She had been doing just fine on her own till now. The rain started suddenly. She tried to find shelter, but she had wandered away from the building. Just then her phone rang in her purse. It was from the nursing home. They had called three times before but the loud party didn't let her hear. "Hello?." "Breanna?." Nurse Gabriella shouted over the speaker. She pushed the phone slightly

*Edited Maxwell's POV He chest squeezed at the sight of her, drenched - and crying. He frowned, the feeling, foreign. The anger he was feeling had long disappeared. Ten minutes ago to be precise, since he started looking for her. Martha was right, she meant something to him. He had anger issues, always had, one out of many reasons why Petra was his therapist aside from being just an overbearing friend. His "issues" in general started a long time ago, when he got a first hand experience of abandonment and heart break. As corny as it sounded, his first heartbreak, broke him. He was still dealing with the aftermath. It was why he never committed, why he didn't let anyone in, despite all the eligible blind dates he had been on in the past. The thought that, if he didn't let anyone in, he wouldn't care, too much that it would hurt him again. He didn't want that. He had tried in the past and it didn't end well at all. But here he was, feeling all these feelings he hadn't felt in a wh

*Edited Breanna's POV "Breanna, I'm afraid we have bad news." She had been worried, ever since she arrived, her stomach twisting and churning with worry. "How bad?." Breanna felt her throat dry up instantly, the Doctor's face and tone didn't exactly do anything to ease her worries. "See you father developed a clot on his hind brain a few weeks ago, covering his cerebellum and medulla which is dangerous for a patient already diagnosed with Alzheimer and which caused his stroke, he is old, and had been sick for a while, I'm afraid his body can't take another stroke, that is bound to happen." "What does that mean?........" Her heart sunk at the doctor's words, her head began to spin, but she managed to stay still. 'There should be a solution'. She told herself. "The clot needs to be removed and hopefully, with the clot gone, another stroke can be avoided. But more than that, the clot is very hazardous to his health." She paused and locked eyes with Breanna before she continu

  • Falling For Professor Caines   18. STRIPPERS AND FRIENDS!

*Edited Breanna's POV She managed to slip out of the hospital to find Jeremy. It was the weekend, so if things were still as she left it, he would be working and that was her way in. If she was going to do this, she needed to be with the big people with fat bank accounts. She contacted him through social media and messaged him to meet her at a diner beside the town high school. "Lil sis!." He called out as he spotted her. Jack's friends always called her that, she was a younger sister to all of them. Jeremy was the biggest kid, so from eighteen he had been a bouncer, it started with little birthday parties and small high school parties. Before she finally left for Lakeside, she heard he was a bouncer for a big casino in town. He didn't go to university like Jack did, not many of his friends did. Some got requited to the army, some just stayed in town to continue family businesses - that was the biggest trend. A few attended a local college but that was it. "Jeremy." She stood

She was fidgeting throughout, pacing the halls of the hospital, that she almost drilled a hole to the ground. He tried to keep her busy, for a while, they talked about his childhood, she laughed at some, but she stopped listening after a few hours. And then Steve messaged him and his stay in the hospital had expired. After making her promise to call him if anything happened, he left his number even though he was sure she wouldn't call and took the last train home. An online meeting started immediately and then ten excruciating long hours surviving on only coffee slipped by. The new lead, turned out to be helpful and soon enough they would be able to catch the bad guys. He tried hard not to remember what happened that night - the lives lost, the months and months of sleepless nights all for nothing, just because of one mistake. The next day, after class, they resumed the meeting w

*Edited Breanna's POV Breanna returned to town. She was utterly penniless, she had been absent from work for a few days and had missed two exams in school. Life was not at all going the way she wanted. She was being pulled in two different directions at once, and wasn't sure if she could keep up anymore. She received an email from the head of departments for her outstanding fees and that her presence was needed at campus. Grudgingly, she came back after making Nurse Gabriela promise to call her every night for updates on her father's health. She resumed life in Lakeside. The rest of the week had dragged on slowly, not that she could even withstand something else happening without running completely insane, all she did was go to classes, try to stay as out of notice as possible in all her classes, then go to work and back home. And repeat. One significant thing that had changed for Breanna recently was the use of her phone, before now, she was never the technology type, only when

MAX'S POVThere were times when it'd cross his mind that she'd return and never want anything to do with him again in her life. That he came into her life to cause her more pain than she was already experiencing early on in life.Still, Maxwell didn't think it'd be as heart wrenching as it was hearing her loud silence. It's true what they say. You never know what you have till you've lost it. He thought to himself. And now he had lost a precious gem. Would he ever be able to move on from this lose this time around?.Amidst his deep depraving thoughts Breanna replied."When I left, it was too hard to maintain." • Falling For Professor Caines   59.  COFFEE DATES!

MAX'S POVMax brought a peach up to his nose for a quick sniff before dropping it into his cart as he continued his walk down the isle. As promised Martha, he planned a small dinner for the family, Cece and Steve, Petra and her husband, for a simple dinner and maybe poker.Only one problem to hosting his family, cooking. He took a left turn remembering where the spice isle was, as he came into the opening, the smell of fresh basil, paprika and other spices he could not pronounce hit his nose. But that was barely the surprise, his eyes lifted up, following the shadow of the person at the other extreme end of the isle, he stopped dead in his tracks.Standing there at the other end was Breanna. Just as beautiful as she was last night in his dreams. Her melanin skin seemed to have gotten a tan, glowing under the supermarket led lights. Her slicked back in a low ponytail."Hi." She waved dropping a bottle of honey in her basket."Brie." He called out to be sure he wasn't seeing things. A fe

MAX'S POV"Thank you all for making it tonight!." Cece said through the microphone from the large podium as a loud cheer ensued with clapping. Maxwell looked around the large room, pleased at the turn out of the night. He certainly did not expect this many people for the award, then again, many people have contributed to the cause and he was proud to be a part and one of the founding members of it. After the kidnap and the whole drama, Maxwell finally realized something. That in every career he ever chose, one thing was prevalent, helping people. At first it began as an act of revenge against the people that killed his grand father, but then along the way he met amazing people, in amazing circumstances that helped shaped his life and shift his focus.Sure he could have realized these things without the deaths and immense pain and hurt that came with it, but he was grateful for it all. Not many people had the privilege of being as successful or comfortable as he was early in life. Plus

Breanna cried, staring at her now empty hands. "Don't give me that look, you need to go pack." "We still have to sort out a whole truck of gift bags for the volunteers, there is so much to do." Breanna moved past her quickly, grabbing a cardboard box with random things sticking out of it. "We've got this, you have a flight in six hours, Breanna." Ada dropped the Ipad in her hand on the table to pack her sultry ginger hair into a bun. "Me, Wendy, O, and the girls have got this, all you have to do is go collect more money to keep this going." She pointed round the huge space. Standing in the middle of a large mess of stuff tossed everywhere, Breanna heaved. After the just concluded Africa outreach, they were left with hundred and thousands of gift wrapping and souvenir hand-outs to the volunteers that helped from

Maxwell's POV Three years later. Maxwell dropped to a squat, breathing heavily as he stopped before the huge statue in the middle of Grand park. Sweat trickled down his chest, soaking through the spandex material of his shirt. Bear caught up with him barely a second later and he smiled, scratching the dog behind his ears as reward. He checked the watch on his hand to stop, the timer with a grin. Beating his own record the third time in a row again in the month. After catching his breath a second longer, he called for Bear and they began their run back to the gym. After everything went to ruin three years ago, he quit his job with the University and with the CIA. He took his time to himself and finally handled all his issues with anger and the hurt he had bottled up for years, this time he didn't spiral out of control. He didn't know much about Breanna's whereabouts but he knew she wasn't missing or in any danger, that much was good enough. A long work out and shower later, his pho

He gave her a curt nod once and returned her smile as she left his office. Kenzie caught up just her just as she exited the building, teary eyed. Without a word, she pulled her into a hug. Breanna laughed. "I'm going to miss you so much." "I'm not leaving the earth Kenzie." Kenzie was about to retort when the sound of Jessica honking her horn interrupted them. "That's my ride." Breanna said to her friend. They already had a girls night and said their goodbyes because Cece was travelling with her boyfriend. So naturally, Breanna didn't prepare for another emotional farewell. "Call me once your plane lands okay?." Kenzie said, releasing her from the hug. Breanna nodded. "I said I wasn't going to cry." Kenzie cursed, wiping the corner of her eyes with her fingers.
