Grayson's POV

When I called Jessica and sent her Chase's address, I meant it to be just three of us, talking out our shit.

The past two weeks had been quite dramatic, and I was freaking ready to call it all off.

I had lost it all, Lily, everything really, everything.

“Jessica, please you have to be reasonable.” I begged her, as Lily approached us.

“Get the fuck away from me.” She said, looking at me. “Why do these stupid riders take so long?” She muttered, tapping her phone, senselessly.

I was tired of being shunned. I grabbed the phone out of her hand, and reach.

“If it's a joke, stop it.” She warned, without looking up.

“It's not, Jessica.” I said, bringing her head up to mine. “You can't possibly be willing to throw what we have away over this.” I added.

Lily's presence interrupted our conversation, but only solidified my argument, to me at least.

“I know she's sorry, she even just said it.” I reiterated.

“The thing with you, Gray,” She said, touching my ches

Chase's POV Gray was gone, leaving Emma and I to ourselves. the one thing I had been looking forward to. “What was that about?” I asked her.She did not respond. I found that fishy as fuck. And I knew for the next part of the night, I needed to be high. I shoved the lip of the bottle in mine and threw the bottle away, caring less about the shattered shards of glass. “I'm talking to you, Emma!” I screamed. She startled and jumped involuntarily. I saw her breathe faster, and lick her lips. “It's nothing.” She replied weakly. “We were just, uh, talking.” She lied. “I miss the old you, Emma.” I said, collapsing on a one seater. “The one you embarrassed?” She asked, suddenly finding her voice. “Hell nah!” “Matter of fact, I do not.” I said, she looked up, confused. “I don't miss a girl with entanglements in another city.” I said. “Emma, I remember mornings where my head didn't hurt, mornings that really felt good. It was not on those mornings I got texts like this.

Emma's POV I was so freaking pissed and ready to be in bed. It didn't help that I was emotionally spent and had been crying almost non-stop for about two hours. Funny shit, and something I won't ever admit to anyone but myself, I wanted to spend more time with Chase. The disrespect was getting over the roof, and I think I had scores to settle with my mom. I admit to never telling her the full details because of Mark. I felt she was gonna do something silly out of annoyance. It was more than just salting up my wounds when Chase confirmed that she did. Why could she have acted like she didn't know anything about it? Why didn't she say anything?I kept mulling over those thoughts in the car with someone I was highly attracted to, and also very repulsed from. I stole glances at Chase, who looked so sinfully sexy. I felt so much desire for him. I knew it had to be the drink. There was no way he was really that goddamn handsome. He looked like perfection. I was almost beginning to f

Emma's POV Nothing mattered anymore. Not the curfew, not anything. Lily was gone. A joke, a really big joke. I sat, almost lifeless myself, outside the hospital. I was having trouble connecting it all. Life was cruel to me. I kept mulling about how horrible my existence was, stopping only to laugh when my brain made the cruel joke that I no longer had to avoid her. She was gone. The universe had done my job for me. It was even funnier to think that I had wished only about two hours ago, to never see her again. I felt like shit. The air in my lungs was stuck, and breathing got increasingly difficult. I thought I was done with the hardest part of the night when we had all those confessions, or confrontations, whatever. Only for that to happen. “Please let's go home.” Chase broke into everyone else's mourning. I cuddled her brother, and he rested his head on my chest. The little boy was a little too fatigued, and had slept off. Tear marks on his face reminded me of how muc

Chase's POV It was a really surreal moment for all of us. Gray was beside himself with grief. Prom was a little over twenty four hours away, it used to be what was on everyone's lips. I remember him telling me that he was thinking about taking the chance to propose to Lily before everyone, just like I did., before shit hit the roof. “Hey man.” I called him as soon as I settled in. I had much explaining to do, to Mrs Linda and my dad. Hearing myself say all the words, almost made me cry. But I had been through worse shit than that in my two decades of living. Nothing could beat holding the body of my mom in my hands as a ten year old. Mrs Linda flinched and winced and groaned and cried in all the right places, puncturing my report. “Thank you,” He said, his voice still sounded very hoarse, I could imagine the effort he put into speaking. “Where are you now?” I asked him. It was a little past midnight, I stayed over at my dads because of Emma, but she was being a bit b

Jessica's POV I threw my phone on the couch as soon as I got back home. It was a hell of a day that began with me nearly dying. I had drunk so much water in the pool that I was still a bit dizzy, a condition my sister googled to be ‘water dizziness’. I spent all the rest of the day recuperating, and then left for Chase's house in the evening. Gray said we were gonna talk, the three of us like it had always been. No Emma, no Lily. I bought the idea because I was a little tired of the whole thing myself. More shocking and disappointing than seeing Lily and Emma was, hearing what she did. I didn't believe she had it in her to two time me. I was grateful for not taking my car along, not like I was in any condition to drive. The ride was everything I didn't think it would be. I felt freed, happy. The nasty weight of resentment and guilt was no more weighing on me. I didn't even have it in me to hate her. It all seemed like a game of survival. “What do you want now?” I asked, pi

Chase's POV “I still do not see how your little story affects me.” I said. He poured me a glass, which I drank up once. “You lot have no more patience these days.” He mused, looking at me. “For how much you hate and resent me, you have a lot to learn from me.” “Oh, I do not think I do.” I was breathing heavily, and baring my teeth at him. “I did all these things,” He said, “just so you and your mom could have a better life.” He shouted, sticking his fingers in my face. “I'm not tryna get fooled by you tonight, Dad.” I placed extra emphasis on the one word that wrongly summarized all he was to me. “You came in here, and you are gonna have to listen to me.” He bellowed. “No!” I screamed, getting up and matching his height, “you listen to me. I have swallowed, and swallowed and swallowed, and I can assure you that I'm in a choke hold. I'm fucking tired, thought you'd be too, apparently I was wrong. You're about to kill my best friend's mom?! Have you no heart? She lit

Linda's POV Peace was a thing I could only dream of. It felt like a distant dream. I had a hunch things were falling apart piece by piece, the constant calls Mark was on, and visits from the police only solidified my suspicions. I thought Mike's case was done with. It was a clear case of suicide. “Chase, please.” I begged on call. “I don't see why I have to do all this pleading to know what's going on, under my own roof!” I exclaimed, I was so fucking stressed. “Today's prom, Linda. I just wanna attend and be happy like every other normal young adult.” He replied. His voice was hoarse, and heavy. “You and I know you're going nowhere near that school, Chase.” I said, discrediting his excuse. “Your ex just died, it's okay to take some time off.” I added. “Not when I have a relationship to fix.” He said, obstinately. “Emma's not going to prom, we both know that. She's been down, refuses to come out of her room. Besides, I think it's time you let go. We've both gotten wha

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 89

Chase's POV After speaking to Emma's mom, every tinge of sleep in my eye fled. I had suddenly become the center of everyone's attention. I kept things away from her, not because of how my dad would feel, but how scared she would get. I watched it happen once, I was gonna watch it happen again. It was around eleven am when I called my guy, Gray. I hadn't spoken with him in almost twelve hours. I wanted to know how he got home, and most importantly, how he was feeling. “Hey, what's up?” He picked up the phone. “How are you?” I asked him. I was feeling like a harbinger of bad news. He was still going through Lily's demise, and I was still making my mind up on telling him how stuff was going with the investigation into Mike's death. It was fast becoming a state issue, and one paper already published the story.I hated the popularity it was gaining. It's not what I had in mind when I asked Gray to go on, and even funded it. All sorts of thoughts were keeping my tired eyes wid

Emma's POV. “You were gonna go in.” He said, looking away. “I was.” I replied, unshifting. He no longer had the courage to stare me down, and I no longer had the will to leave, “MIT looks good on you.” He said. “Thank you.” I smiled, “I could say the same for you.” “I see you've made new friends, well old ones, but you know…” He said. I chuckled within myself. Who'd have known that I could make the bad boy Chase unsure about me? “Yeah, I had no choice.” I murmured. “Uhm, how are you?” I asked, just out of courtesy, I told myself. I thought being brave and bold was gonna make me indestructible by him, but I was beginning to come off as antagonistic, and I didn't like it. Deep down, in the corners of my heart I hoped Kevin would never see, Chase occupied it. I wanted for him to close the distance between us like he'd once done. To treat me like his own. I was getting a little teary, so I dug my freshly manicured nail into my palm, I wasn't gonna cry, I could not.

Emma's POV “Come on, Patty can wait.” Kevin held me closer. I thought I heard someone enter, but Kevi didn't give me headroom, and I didn't want to distract him. “Anything else?” I asked jokingly, even though I really was so keen on getting back to Party. “Yeah, let's hang out a while.” He said. “Kev, today is the D-day, it's what we're here for. I kinda have to be there.” I protested. “Fine then.” He said, taking his arms away from around my waist. “Come on, Kev.” I pulled him back, “you are not and, are you?” I asked. “It just seems like things are a lot different than I felt they would be.” He replied, looking away. “What does that even mean?” I asked It was our first argument, and I didn't like it that it was happening at Mark's house. “Em, you're obviously with your family. I'm second place. I should've expected that. Maybe I'd have rethought traveling all the way here.” Kev smiled. “You don't mean that. Kev, we've literally been together, I only l

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 154

Emma's POV Two days, with Kev and Chase the house wasn't what I thought it would be. Chase was barely available, and when he was, he made sure he was extremely busy. Kevin, too, worked in the room Patty had arranged for him, so they had no reasons to cross paths except dinner time. I had an extensive talk with my mom about Kevin. She still really wasn't feeling him, but she was glad I'd moved on from Chase, it was mixed emotions for her. “This is so good, Mr Norman.” He smiled at the wine Chase's dad asked Patty to get. “This old man knows good things when he sees one.” He looked glaringly at my mom, but she avoided his eyes. The air between them was still a little weird, but they had to put up a show, for the rest of us at least, who had bigger things going on. I'd spent two days feeling like shit for not forcing Casey to come along with me instead of Kevin. In my defense, he said he wanted to meet my mom and properly apologize for all that'd happened in Starry. It seemed l

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 153

Patty's POV Emma and Kevin, as she called him, arrived without much fanfare. It'd been a minute since I saw her so happy. She wasn't my favorite person in the house, but I had grown to have a soft spot for her. “How are you, Patty?” She squealed and even threw her arms open. “I'm good.” I smiled. “Meet Kev.” She smiled, “Kev, here's Party. Mark's longest serving home manager.” “Nice to meet you Ma'am. You're in really good shape too.” The boy flashed his million dollar smile at me. He looked so good, the most pretty eye candy I'd seen in a while. “You're welcome, Kevin.” I said. “Everyone's inside.” Mark and Linda have been attending to the event planners that Chase had coming to the house. With his arm still in a sling, there was very little he could do without Linda's help. The air around them was a bit icy, but they made it work. I hoped for both of their sakes that they fix what was between them. At least he wasn't cheating on Linda with her friends like he d

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 152

Chase's POV I'd still seriously been considering excuses for not showing up at the anniversary. It was six days to go. I woke up every morning to thoughts of it. Ding! Ding! My phone chimed. My phone was always on DND and only rang or chimed when it was someone on my favorites list messaging me. I still hadn't been able to bring myself to take Emma off the list. ‘Welcome everyone!’, A text on a new group chat read. I rubbed the sleep away from my eyes, and looked at it again. It was just my Dad, Emma, and I. “What is going on?” I asked him. I felt fear, annoyance and excitement. “Why the group?” I asked again. “Is that how you now greet your old man?” He asked. “Come on dad, I'm not having a good morning.” I said. “I need all hands on deck to give Linda the perfect first year anniversary, and you both are gonna help out, whether you like it or not!” He yelled at me. “What if something came up? A laboratory session I can't miss? Or a presentation?” I asked

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 151

Emma's POV “What do you mean next week?!” I squealed as my mom broke the news to me. She and Mark were gonna be having their first anniversary in a week. “Yeah.” She breathed really deep. . “You don't sound too enthusiastic.” I observed. “Stuff has been going on, Em. Didn't want to bother you.” She replied to me. “Now I'm so bothered.” I replied to her. It's been over a week since Kev and I officially got out of the friendship zone. Kev was explicit with the fact that he wanted more than just to be friends, and I think we'd gone beyond that too. “I shot him.” She said, I felt like a bomb had just exploded in my head. This was the man who rescued us from the allegations in Starry. “What the fuck, mom?” I yelled over the phone. I was home, and currently the only one in my apartment, so I could tell as loudly and freely as I wanted to. Kevin had begun to spend more time over, although for the bulk of it, he was on his work laptop. “Don't use the f word with m

Chase's POV “Don't ever think of that.” My dads voice boomed over the phone. “I'm young and still strong.” He boasted . I'd chipped in the possibility of him taking a break from his numerous businesses and just resting. “Why are you so anti-rest?” I asked. Me and the old man were only beginning to really get along. We were still fixing all the cracks in our relationship, carefully skipping over the lost pieces. “It's just not the time.” He groaned. We were on a video call. I saw his face squeezed every single time he had to lift his shot hand. “I've got a lot of stuff to make up to a lot of people.” He said. “You can't do that if you're dead.” I reminded him. “You sound just like your mother.” He smiled, and looked lost for a while, snapping back only when the glass mug I mistakenly knocked off made a loud crashing noise. “Linda's great too.” I said. “She's a good woman.” I chipped. “She is.” He agreed. Every morning I wake up, I bless my creator for giving he

Kevin's POV It'd been a month since Em and I redecorated my place. I appreciated her help around the house. It was beginning to look more of a house than an office space. I'd convinced her multiple times, to stay over, let us enjoy what we'd created, but one thing or the other always up, and fucked the plan up. Plus I had to travel to multiple places, and I was mostly away for the month I just got back from Melbourne, and I think I had the most romantic gift for her. I'd curated a photo album, a cute little pink one containing all the pictures I ever took when we were working on the house together I also had a box of preserved roses. The old lady tried to force it down my throat, and I felt it was a bit too unnecessary till I discovered what it symbolizes. I had it all arranged in the new Nissan Versa car I'd parked in the garage of the apartment. I told her I was gonna come a day after I actually planned, and I tipped Casey off massively, to reveal that Emma had a little we

Chase's POV “You say this is a smart thing to do?” I asked Kayla. “What do you think?” The poor girl was probably too tired of being in my drama. “Never mind.” I said. “I'll just do it later, I don't want the pressure.” “That means me.” She put a hand on her chest and nodded in understanding. “I get it.” “Don't take it that way.” I said, holding her close, “It'd just be too much for you, and I don't want that.” I said. “I get it.” She said, “I'll see you later then.” Kayla stayed in the dorms, so she wasn't gonna be going out with me. We've kinda restricted ourselves to just school, and sometime, I visited her dorm. She never came to my apartment. Said it was still too raw on her. “Take care.” I said, and let her go. We were done for the day, and it was already almost evening. I decided to stroll back to my place, since there was nothing to rush home to. “What's up?” A bold girl said, looking at me and batting her eyelashes. That was literally the last atten
