The "Too Clingy" Plan

Susan

If making Elliot jealous didn’t work, I had to try something else.

And what’s the fastest way to push a man away?Be overly clingy.

Men hated it when a woman was too available, right? If I suffocated him with attention, he’d get tired of me and leave, it was a flawless plan, or so I thought.

It started in the morning. I showed up at his apartment unannounced.

Dressed in one of his oversized shirts, the one I stole and a pair of shorts, I knocked on his door at 6:00 a.m. sharp.

When he opened it, his hair was messy from sleep, his sweatpants hung low on his hips, and his bare chest looked like a damn sin.

But I was here on a mission.

"Good morning, baby!" I beamed, stepping inside before he could stop me. "I missed you."

Elliot blinked at me, then smirked. "Missed me? It’s barely been eight hours."

"I know," I said sweetly, wrapping my arms around his waist, pressing my face against his warm, hard chest. "But I just couldn’t sleep without you."

His hands rested on my hips, his voice amused. "That so?"

"Mhmm." I looked up at him with wide, adoring eyes. "Can I move in with you?"

His smirk widened. "What?"

"I mean, what’s the point of living apart when we’re already engaged?" I batted my lashes. "Wouldn’t it be better if I was always here?"

Elliot’s blue eyes searched mine. He could smell the bullshit, but I held my ground.

"Sure," he said smoothly. "You can move in."

I blinked. "Wait… what?"

"If that’s what you want," he said, leaning down, brushing his lips slowly over mine. "I won’t stop you, sweetheart."

Shit.

I wasn’t expecting him to agree.

Step Two: The Constant Texts.

By lunchtime, I’d sent Elliot over fifty messages.

Susan: Miss you, baby.

Susan: Thinking about you.

Susan: What are you doing?

Susan: Did you eat?

Susan: What are you eating?

Susan: Is it good?

Susan: I wish I was feeding you instead.

Susan: Actually, should I come over?

Susan: I’m coming over.

Not one text back, but that wasn’t going to stop me. I called him next, five times.

Straight to voicemail.

By now, Meera was cry-laughing over the phone.

"Stop! STOP!" she wheezed. "You’re killing me. Elliot is either freaked out or he’s plotting to kill you."

"I have to make him dump me, Meera!" I whined. "This has to work!"

She snorted. "Sweetheart, if that man hasn’t run by now, he’s never leaving."

I ignored her and went for the nuclear option.

Step Three: Show Up at His Office.

By 3:00 p.m., I was standing in Elliot’s office without an appointment.

His assistant, looked like he wanted to die.

"He’s in a meeting, Miss Hart," Gerald said weakly.

"I’ll wait," I chirped, plopping onto Elliot’s leather couch.

Gerald sighed in defeat.

Thirty minutes later, Elliot walked in.

His tailored suit hugged him perfectly, his sharp blue eyes landing on me immediately.

I ran toward him, arms outstretched.

"Elliot!" I gasped dramatically, throwing myself at him.

I expected him to push me off.

But he just caught me.

Firm hands on my waist, amusement in his devastating smirk.

"Sweetheart," he murmured, voice low, "To what do I owe this… enthusiasm?"

I pouted. "I missed you. We should spend every second together, don’t you think?"

"Every second?" His hands tightened on my hips, voice dripping with dangerous amusement.

I swallowed. Shit.

"Y-Yeah," I whispered.

He leaned down, his lips grazing my ear. "Then don’t complain when I don’t let you leave my bed tonight."

My entire body locked up.

Abort mission. ABORT.

"I-I just remembered!" I blurted, pulling away. "I have a… meeting! With a very important client! Super busy! Gotta go!"

I fled.

Elliot

Susan thought she was sly, she thought I didn’t notice what she was trying to do. But I saw everything.

The clinginess, the constant texts, the way she threw herself at me on purpose, she wanted me to feel suffocated, to push her away, to end things.

She thought she could make me break up with her, not a chance.

I had played this game longer than her, and I never lost.

And for me, my first love.I still remember the way the sun drenched the campus that morning, illuminating the sprawling lawns and the old brick buildings. I was 18, full of ambition, and ready to conquer the world...or at least my little corner of it. My backpack was heavier than necessary, my schedule meticulously planned, and my nerves barely under control.I had just exited the lecture hall after my orientation when I saw him. At first, it was just a passing glance. He stood out...not just because of his height or his sharp features, but because of the effortless way he seemed to exist in his space. A nurse led me down the hallway to Mrs. Hart’s room, her expression a mix of curiosity and politeness. “She’s been expecting a visitor today. But I don’t think she knew it would be you.” I smirked slightly. “I hope it’s a good surprise.” The nurse gave me an uncertain smile before knocking on the door. “Mrs. Hart? You have a visitor.” A weak voice responded from inside. “Come in.” I stepped into the room, and my gaze immediately landed on the frail woman sitting by the window. Either way, I found myself seated across from Mrs. Prescott in an exclusive restaurant, the air thick with tension. She was as intimidating as I remembered...poised, elegant, and utterly unreadable. The kind of woman who could tear someone apart with a single glance. And right now, all that cold, assessing energy was focused on me. The waiter had just poured our wine when she finally broke the silence. “I appreciate you agreeing to meet with me, Susan,” she said, though her tone held no warmth. “Of course,” I replied, keeping my voice steady. “Elliot told me you wanted to talk.” She took a sip of her wine before setting the glass down with precision. “Yes, I did.
