67. Not Trying Hard Enough

"Caroline's not up yet?" Jared asked one of the maid as he ate breakfast alone this morning. He actually felt like there was something missing if Caroline wasn't by his side, but he was already disappointed.

"Not yet, sir. I've knocked repeatedly on the door, but there's been no response at all."

"Oh, that's fine. Just let her rest; don't disturb her."

"Yes, sir."

Jared began to enjoy his breakfast half-heartedly. He stared repeatedly at the door connecting the living room and dining room, hoping Caroline would show up and join him for breakfast. However, Caroline didn't show up until he finished breakfast.

Jared sighed repeatedly. He felt so wrong here. If he forced his will, Caroline would be tormented by an unwanted relationship. However, if he let Caroline choose her own path in life, he felt anxious that half of his heart would disappear.

"Sir," Donny approached.

"Caroline left you a message to deliver to me." Jared guessed with excitement.

"No." Donny immediately denied.
