97|Tough Task

The apartment lights didn't turn on automatically as they usually do when someone enters the room. But in the darkness, candles lit up the room. The candles lining the floor leading to the bedroom caught my attention.

I turned to Otis. He smiled. I followed the candles' guidance to the room with the door open. The candles stopped not far from the bed. I saw a bouquet of red roses and some jewelry boxes on it.

"Otis, what is all this about?" I asked in confusion.

"I can't repay what you did yesterday with any money. So, I thought of a suitable gift for you. I know you got a lot of jewelry from Farrell, but you sold it when you divorced," he explained.

"I don't know what you like. But the shop assistant said this jewelry is favored by high society women. You'll be proud to wear it." He smiled.

I smiled back. "You don't need to do this. I have plenty of jewelry from Father and enough to attend different events. Besides, I'm your wife. I'm obligated to help you in times of trouble."
