A woman greeted and invited me to sit on one of the chairs at the head of the table. I declined. I had no shares or position in the company. So, I chose to stand. There were only enough seats for the invited participants.

The door opened, and the people we were waiting for arrived. Farrell, Eleanor, and Dorothy entered with their arrogant faces. None of them belonged here. Eleanor was only Arnold's widow, Dorothy had no shares in the company, and Farrell was CEO because he was married to Camari, a position he no longer held since divorcing her.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," Farrell pleasantly greeted us. "Thank you for coming, honoring my unexpected invitation. We'll—" He was surprised to see me. "What are you doing here!? Security, kick him out!"

Jasper immediately stood beside me, preparing to protect me from the approaching security guards. "I'll just be a minute." I smiled at him and everyone else. I nodded towards Camari. "You guys need to know about something."

[Camari]I didn't expect to see such a painful sight. The police brought Otis in handcuffs. He had to endure the shame of the police arresting him in front of many people. My chest ached to see that man endlessly afflicted with misfortune.I saw Farrell, Eleanor, and Dorothy smiling with satisfaction. I couldn't believe that people I once considered family could act this cruelly to their family members. What had Otis done to them?Everything went smoothly. The meeting we were looking forward to had finally taken place. Everything we prepared was in the hands of our targets. However, we didn't expect them to slander Otis for trying to kill his father.I walked out of the room, chasing after Otis. I almost cried when I saw the cops dragging him away. Oh, my God. Otis' legs were shorter than theirs. Why did they have to act so mean? Even though he was accused of a serious crime, he was still a suspect, not a defendant."Camari, wait!" Dorothy called. I ignored her and continued to walk. "

“Miss Camari Gastrell,” called the nurse on duty. I stood up to answer her call. “Miss Cavanaugh is waiting for you in her office.”“Thank you,” I replied.I followed her into the office and smiled at the cozy room. I felt like I was in a living room with an ivory sofa and an oak table. The sideboard and bookcase were also made of oak.I overheard Otis and Jasper's conversation in his office that day. They reminded me of Deborah's advice. Therefore, I researched psychologists that people liked and were affordable. I was happy to find a psychologist who accepted patients with health insurance. The psychologist stood up and extended her hand to me. “Hi, Miss Gastrell.”“Camari,” I corrected as I shook her hand.“Call me Jen, then.” She smiled warmly and invited me to sit down. “Thank you for trusting me. Well, how can I help you?”"Well ...." My tongue suddenly felt numb. My head was blank, and I forgot what to say."Can I be straightforward?" Jennifer kindly offered. She glanced at the

Jennifer explained in simple sentences so that I could understand her. She mentioned my condition and the treatment she suggested. I might take some time to think about what she said first if I wasn't ready to decide.I didn't think twice and accepted all her suggestions. Otis had said he would support all my decisions for my recovery, so I took my psychologist's advice. I chose her for help. So, I learned to trust her observations."We can do this in two ways. We set a counseling time once a week or you can come whenever you can," Jennifer suggested."I prefer to set a schedule. So, I can fill the other days with work. Do you have an appointment every Monday night?" I asked."I can make time between six and seven in the evening. How about that?" she offered."Perfect!" I said happily. "I'll come straight here after work."After discussing other details, Jennifer ended our meeting. She made a few suggestions to help my recovery. Thankfully, I did most of them. "Fa-farrell... What are you doing here?" Eleanor nervously muttered."Is what Camari said true, Mom?" Farrell asked in disbelief. "You killed Dad? And what does that mean about his illegitimate son?""Camari is a liar. Don't believe anything she says." Eleanor approached Farrell and looked at him gently."That's not the answer to my question, Mom." Farrell took a step back.I turned to Nicole. She looked at me for a moment before looking at the mother and son. I didn't know what to do, so I waited until they finished talking. After all, it would be a strange atmosphere if I entered my unit while they were here."I didn't kill your father. I loved him very much. How could I hurt him?" Eleanor explained. "And there's no illegitimate son. You're Arnold Haworth's only child.""You lied," Farrell accused. "You avoid my eyes when you speak. You'll look at me without hesitation when you tell the truth.""Farrell, I'm your mother. I won't lie to you," Eleanor cooed. The man avoided when his mo

[Otis]I was uneasy about being away from Camari. But I had to do it. Eleanor and Dorothy tried hard to keep us apart, so we went along with it. We didn't know how Father was doing. So, we had to be careful and not provoke them.Camari's fake bodyguards were an advantage. They must have reported everything to Farrell. The man stalking my wife must have reported everything to Eleanor and Dorothy. They might have thought their plan had succeeded. My guess was confirmed when I saw the number of people standing guard in front of Father's hospital room. There were two large men standing there, but only one today. Jasper and I were thinking of ways to infiltrate when the man left his post.Seeing that, we quickly moved. I didn't expect Camari and Nicole to do the same. I thought she was having lunch with Jasmine. It turned out Camari was in this place, too. The amazing thing was that she recorded all of Father's statements. How could I not fall deeper in love with her? She thought of and fou

My duty was done, so I left the room. Camari and Nicole were not in the corridor. Only Jasper stood waiting for me. What a strange woman. Her boss was here. Why was she rushing back to work? I wouldn't fire her for taking care of my father.Father's bodyguard came. I waited until he was near me. I asked for an explanation for his negligence at work. It turned out that Farrell had told him not to look after Father—like mother like son. They wanted to ruin my life.Fortunately, Father named the culprit. I waited for the police to make an official statement about Steven before suing them for their unfair treatment toward me. Isaac would love to keep busy with the two additional cases. He was still handling Bruce and my office security for intrusion and theft. He certainly wouldn't mind taking care of Steven's attempted murder and Eleanor's murder cases. I let out a long sigh. The media would frequently mention my family's name."Otis," someone called out. I looked behind me. "D-do you hav

[Camari]Today was full of surprises! I'd never felt so happy and so scared at the same time. After successfully clearing Otis' name, I had to deal with the crazy woman who had her bodyguards’ pointing guns at us.Didn't she listen to Otis' report at the shareholders' meeting? The company was almost bankrupt. What did she want with the Haworth heirloom? As owners, the Haworth would have to pay for many losses with their assets. Homes, vehicles, and jewelry might have to be sold to cover the losses. Then what did she want to do with maintaining her son's position in Father's company? I couldn't understand. Haworth lost everything because of her foolish son!I thought I was going to die, so I apologized to everyone in my head. Fortunately, help came unexpectedly. I didn't care when Father met and talked with Dante. All I could think about was that our lives were intact."Thank goodness, we're all safe," I muttered in the elevator."Why do we have to go back to the office, ma'am? Mr. Hawo

The apartment lights didn't turn on automatically as they usually do when someone enters the room. But in the darkness, candles lit up the room. The candles lining the floor leading to the bedroom caught my attention.I turned to Otis. He smiled. I followed the candles' guidance to the room with the door open. The candles stopped not far from the bed. I saw a bouquet of red roses and some jewelry boxes on it."Otis, what is all this about?" I asked in confusion."I can't repay what you did yesterday with any money. So, I thought of a suitable gift for you. I know you got a lot of jewelry from Farrell, but you sold it when you divorced," he explained."I don't know what you like. But the shop assistant said this jewelry is favored by high society women. You'll be proud to wear it." He smiled.I smiled back. "You don't need to do this. I have plenty of jewelry from Father and enough to attend different events. Besides, I'm your wife. I'm obligated to help you in times of trouble."I took

Whenever I needed him, I turned to him, and he would come closer. Hours passed, but the torment wasn't over yet.I grew more and more frightened as the pain became unbearable. Seeing Otis' pale face, I smiled at him. It must have been hard for him to see me in this state. It made me realize one important thing. [Camari]Otis was busy with the two companies he was responsible for. I thought everything was fine. He solved all of Haworth Incorporation's financial problems and replaced some old directors with his confidants. However, I had no idea why he bought shares from certain people in the company. I wasn't with him all the time since my pregnancy made it difficult for me to move around freely. So, he had lunch or dinner with his colleagues without me.He even bought shares in his company from people demanding that he step down from his seat. I wasn't the finance director, so I didn't know the company's financial position. But seeing Jasmine's calm demeanor, I concluded that everything was still under control. Therefore, I was surprised by today's announcement. Precious Fund Corporation and Haworth Incorporation were merging. Precious Fund remained, while Haworth Incorporation ceased to exist. What did Father think of this? The man I was thinking about came in with a cheerful face, making m

Bella had just given birth. Following Father's instructions, we checked the baby and Farrell for a DNA match. The lab technician called to tell us the results were up for collection. Dorothy flew straight from her town to take care of it with me.Camari was twenty-eight weeks pregnant. I didn't want anything to happen to her if she met Bella in prison. She should be in a high-security place. The office had bodyguards and building security. I could rest easy if she were there."Otis!" Dorothy called.I waved the envelope of test results at her. "The results are here.""Come on, open it quickly," she said impatiently.I opened the envelope and took out the paper inside. I sighed when I saw the results. The question that had been bothering us was answered. For safety reasons, Dorothy and I headed to the prison in our respective cars.Ever since Bella attacked my car, I hadn't been in the same car with my family. Our parents excused themselves from the living room. They ran away and didn't help me to explain the sentence to Camari. I swallowed and saw them smiling meaningfully. I have a personal stash that I've set aside for my wedding. So, I'm not taking the company's operating money."She smiled. "Are you afraid I'll laugh at your feelings?" she cooed. Camari squeezed my hand. "Thank you for loving me, but I can't say the same." She bowed her head."Camari, I—" I muttered, feeling bad."Please don't get me wrong," she cut in. "Give me time. [Otis]I stared at the loser man without blinking. He just lowered his head, not daring to return my gaze. He didn't touch the envelope I placed in front of him. He must have understood the purpose of my visit. And I needed an explanation."Silence won't make me forgive what you and your team did," I stated. "This is the first and last warning. If you dare forge people's signatures again, I'll shut down your law firm. You know I'm capable of that.""Mr. Haworth." He finally opened his mouth. "Neither I nor my team forged anyone's signature. If the client didn't sign, then Farrell did.""The client didn't show up for her divorce papers, and you were not her attorney. Was that Farrell's fault, too?" I asked. "My nephew died doesn't mean you can put all the blame on him. I'm not that stupid."I took the envelope back. "This is my proof of how negligent your law firm is. She congratulated me on successfully ending my hatred for the two people who had done me harm.Otis was still talking to Carlos, so I went home with my bodyguard. Looking at the numbers on the elevator, I thought of someone. I pressed the number to my old apartment and smiled. She must be in her apartment.Sure enough. Deborah greeted me with a smile and the delicious cooking aroma inside her unit. She offered me her appetizing lasagna. We enjoyed it while chatting in the dining room."I'm sorry about what happened to your family," she said with concern.I liked the word she chose, family. She didn't mention Farrell as my ex-husband. The day went by so fast, but it also felt so slow. I wasn't excited about the day either, even though I forced myself to smile so no one would suspect anything.Otis and Jasper entered the office, so I sat in my chair. My new bodyguard stood guard not far from me. I kept my distance from her to avoid getting emotionally involved. The incidents that happened to Nicole had left me devastated, and I didn't want to go through it again.I didn't know why people closest to me kept getting hurt. I just wanted it to be over. [Otis]I had never felt so desperate as when I watched my wife being taken away before my eyes. I made the mistake of taking off my seat belt to kiss her cheek. As a result, my body was thrown and fell on the floor after the car hit something. Then, help came. People rescued us, and only then did I find out that our car tires were shot. Therefore, Jasper had difficulty controlling the car. He chose to crash into a shop rather than another vehicle. Fortunately, it saved our lives. We weren't hurt, but it was different with Nicole. They shot her arm, and she fell off her motorcycle. The doctor had to perform surgery as soon as possible to remove the bullet and fix the position of her broken arm and leg."Farrell and Bella have to die," Jasper whispered. After that deafening explosion, the room turned so quiet that my ears were ringing. I felt nothing in my body. Did the bullet lodged in the body numb the wound?I opened my eyes and saw that my lap was clean. There was no blood. Strange. No part of my body felt aches or pains. Did the shooter miss or misfire? I took a deep breath. No part of my body hurt, and I was still alive!"Noooo!!!" Bella shouted, startling me.My heart was beating fast. I turned and saw her running towards me. Oh, God. Did she want to kill me with her hands? I struggled, trying to break free from the bonds on my hands and feet, but it was in vain.Bella didn't approach me but knelt and held something under me. I turned and was surprised to see someone lying on the floor. Bella turned his body so that I could see his face. No way. That selfish man who only loved himself couldn't be lying there. He wouldn't sacrifice himself to save anyone, especially me. Farrell hated me. He only loved Bella. It was impossible.
