ANITA'S POV

Right! She knows Ryan and I are faking it.

But from the look of things, she was the only one aware of this fact in the Rivers' family.

I had yet to properly formulate the right words in response to her not-so-brief outbursts of unexpected sentences, when we were interrupted.

"Aunt K!" Zach and Zara had excitedly hugged her, seemingly tired of waiting for their turn for an embrace.

"Oh, my sweet, little sugerpies." Kaia gushed. And as she squatted down to gather them in her arms, I was once again grateful for the twins' interruption.

I couldn't tell if Kaia was being sincere with me or not, but one thing I'd observed; she had a better relationship with Ryan more than he did with the rest of his family who were still staring at us.

I was proven right when Ryan didn't bat an eyelid but looked rather relaxed when she took the kids along to greet the rest of his family, leaving just him and I.

Well, awkward...

Or maybe not...

I followed Ryan's footsteps,

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   41: She's mine now

RYAN'S POV I picked my kids up in my arms, and kissed their cheeks. "Mama's not coming home tonight, sweeties." "Whyyy?" Zara stressed, pouting as she fiddled with a button on my shirt. "Because Mama went to see an old friend that needs her help." I don't know if that was a lie or not. The most important thing was to make the kids believe it at least. Their faces didn't look convinced so I dropped the highlight. "To make sure you're comfortable and not miss her so much tonight, she sent some gifts!" Their faces instantly brightened. Thank goodness. "Now, who wants to hear Mama's voice before going to bed?" "Yay!!! Meeee!!!" They jumped in my arms, squealing happily. They were so happy that once again, I couldn't deny the stinging feeling of guilt squeezing my insides as I watched them. I hope my lies don't eventually ruin their lives. God help me. Some ten minutes later, they were fast asleep. Anita was right after all. I smiled, tucked them in bed properly and

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   40: No, you didn't cross the line.

RYAN'S POV I was just about to get in my car, all dressed up and feeling excited like a teenage boy on his first date, after sending a text to Anita when her reply popped up faster than I'd expected. My hand resting on the car's door stilled the moment I read through her text. *I'm sorry Ryan, but we'd have to take a rain check on dinner. Something came up, let's do this some other time, if you don't mind. Also, I wouldn't be home tonight.* Well, that's unusual. Is she sleeping over at Kristen's? I stared at my phone in a mix of confusion and worry. What happened to her? It was unlike her to stay out without coming back except when it's for an already planned photoshoot or business meeting. My eyes lingered on my phone as her text message stared right back at me. *No problem, Anne. Hope you're alright? You're at Kristen's, right?* I texted back as I retraced my steps back into the villa. Several minutes later, I stared at my phone for the umpteenth time, no respon

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   39: A visitor from the past

ANITA'S POV Sadly, Mama Suzanne had no immediate answer for my impromptu question. However, she promised to check through the old files and staff at the orphanage and assured me she'd get back to me when she finds some useful information. We exchanged contacts and I left her my personal email address and contact information this time. After a brief tour around the orphanage, we returned to her office and I spent some more time with her catching up about the old times, getting info on the events that happened in my absence and getting to hear about the general well-being of some of my old childhood friends and colleagues. We were served some snacks and offered food from the cafeteria, I was initially going to resist but after hearing it was made by my favorite chef (during my time at the orphanage) I couldn't resist anymore. So, Mama Suzanne's assistant packed some food and drinks for us as we prepared to leave. It was really a nice time and reunion for me and Madame Suzann

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   38: Tracing roots

ANITA'S POV Mama Suzanne, as I liked to call her, told me she had been happy when she had learnt I'd gotten married into the Walter family two years after I'd left the orphanage. However, she had been so shocked when she had seen the leaked photos from my wedding (before it had been speedily taken down) she almost couldn't recognize me. My physical looks wasn't one she could reckon with. She informed me she had also tried to reach me however, she wasn't able to. I had no contact information (thanks to my horrible foster family and my ex-husband and his family). She couldn't even get her letters across to me as they were never delivered to me. Someone, obviously my notorious ex-husband, had kept blocking every letter I received from reaching me. __ I sipped solemnly from my tea cup while absentmindedly returning Mama Suzanne's heartwarming smile. It took me minutes to calm down, several generous cups of tea her assistant had prepared and offered, and about an hour later

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   37: Is it really you, Amanda?

ANITA'S POV The grand office of the director was quiet, save for the sound from the tea cup as her assistant served tea. Kristen had made an appointment for us few days earlier so it was easy meeting her the moment we were in the building. I fiddled nervously with my hands, quietly hoping she'd be able to remember me even though almost twelve years had gone by since we last saw each other. Madame Suzanne had aged quite much already. Now in her late fifties, she still managed to look as elegantly stunning as I'd always know her to be. A familiar feeling of nostalgia quietly overwhelmed me as I suddenly felt remorseful for not reaching out the moment I was out of D.C and back in New York City. But doing that would have been super risky for my general well-being... Suzanne Wellington was looking at me with so much emotions openly expressing on her features. "Is it really you, Amanda? My sweet little Mandy?" She finally spoke up afterwhat seemed like forever. I was

  • Fake It With Me, Anita   36: Are you falling for him?

ANITA'S POV I walked with Kristen to the parking lot and was immediately surprised when I saw her new baby. "Ouuuuhh, Ms. Kim!" I excitedly looked around the flashy black Ferrari, last year's model. "I see we got a new baby here. She's gorgeous!" "I know right!" Kristen squealed, her short black hair bouncing as she eagerly opened the car door for me to take a better look. "My, my! You must be really enjoying your new promotion benefits." I teased on and Kristen grinned, reaching for my hand and tenderly patting it in hers. "It's all thanks to you, my darling. It's really a blessing to be the manager of the most successful model in the city." She continued and I laughed, adjusting the scarf around my head and neck as we both settled in the car. "You work so hard, Kristen. Of course, you deserve everything and even more." I smiled at her. "Ohh, so touching." Kristen pretended to be all emotional as she wiped an imaginary tear from her eye, making me swat her arm playfu
