FIBI'S POV
A knock on the door woke me up. I stretched contentedly. That must be the soundest sleep I'd ever had in my adult life. Due to the awkwardness of last night, I had tossed around at first, but this mattress was definitely not made for tossing around. It was so inviting and soothing that I lost all consciousness until this morning. Suddenly my brain came awake and I bolted upright, remembering what woke me up. Was he back? How would I face him this time? Surely he would still be in a sour mood because of yesterday. I gave a big sigh of relief when I opened the door and saw the elder queen. “Good morning, Mother.” I beamed. “Well well well, someone is radiant this morning. Did he finally come around and show you what the Leo Santos wolves are made of?” Diana grinned. A burst of red stained my cheeks. I was more mortified that I even understood that she was talking about sex. I replied shyly, “Mother, he didn't even sleep here. He gave me a death glare and stormed out immediately I returned. My radiance is actually coming from the sweet sleep I had. I never slept so well in my father's house because…” I caught myself in time. It was clear that Diana liked me, but I didn't know for sure if I could confide in her like that. She graciously overlooked my hesitation and continued like I never mentioned my situation at home. “I tease, child. I know he spent the night in his office down the hall.” She led us to a seat as she spoke in a light tone. “Let's see how long he's going to avoid you by running from his own room.” She continued, “Anyway, I only came around to see how you fared. I'm glad you slept well.” She tried to hide it, but I saw the sadness that crossed her face at that moment. I found out that it hurt my heart to see her in any form of pain. Obeying my instinct, I reached out and took her hands. “How about you, Mother? How are you?” She smiled, then sighed. “You're very observant. It just breaks my heart as his mother, watching him all these years as he tortured himself in addition to what life already did to him. He has refused to allow himself heal, both physically and mentally.” “What exactly happened to him? You said he wasn't always like this, so what turned him into this… this…” I couldn't say the word in my mind. “Monster?” Diana supplied. I ducked my head as I turned red with embarrassment. “Don't worry, I know he acts like a monster. I don't hold your opinion against you. But I also know that he's one of the most loving wolves you can find. He was like that with Lisa before she shattered his trust and left him at the point of death.” Lisa. I'd heard her name quite a few times by now. The one who abandoned him. Diana shook her head. “We don't have time to visit past memories now. The present and the future are more important. You see, Diego had a chance to be completely healed. When Lisa left, he stopped taking his meds and this caused his injuries to fester. He resumed them later but grew frustrated after a while when he didn't get better.” “He has also refused therapy, claiming that he doesn't want anyone witnessing his whole weakness.” She added. “That doesn't even make sense.” I scoffed before I could stop myself. “No, it doesn't.” She agreed. “It's like a dead body hiding its privacy from the person who would embalm it. But that's not even the worst part. I've been trying to make him eat the doctor's recommended diet for years now, but he acts like he actually enjoys being sick and crippled.” Seeing how much agony Diego was causing his mother, I made a decision right there and then. “Please share this recommended diet with me, I'll do my best to ensure he follows it. Also, I need to know what sort of therapy he's meant to be having. In fact, Mother, I think I have to visit his doctors for complete details on his treatment.” I declared. Diana cupped my cheek tenderly. “The moon goddess was right. You are the she-wolf we need in this family.” I didn't know what she was talking about, but it warmed my heart anyway. She promised to set up an appointment for me with the doctor. Our conversation moved on to how much I missed my mother. I wished I could see her even briefly to set her mind at rest that I was okay. “You can go today and see your mother, Fibi. I will send someone to drive you home.” Diana offered, and my joy knew no bounds. Good thing Ethan was still around; he had stayed to make sure I was okay… and maybe to get to know Beta Greg better too. I mind-linked him immediately Diana left. “Hey, lover boy.” He responded, “Fibi! How are you? I tried to come see you later last night, but I was not allowed. Hope he didn't hurt you, I'll kill him if he did.” I laughed out loud. Through my mind, I told him, “Calm down Ethan! I'm fine. In fact, it's not so bad afterall. I certainly don't miss the beatings I would have been receiving at home by now. I only miss Mother. But guess what, the elder queen says I can go see her today!” “Awwwn. Wait, you're not planning to run away, are you?” “No, silly. Where would I run to? Besides the elder queen has been very nice to me, and she's sending a driver to take me.” “Ah, smart woman. She's stylishly protecting her investment.” He teased. “Did you just call me an investment? You're so silly.” I laughed. “So I guess I can go home now that I know you'll be alright. I can come with you, right?” He asked. “Of course.” I accepted. Later, we journeyed to Sea Stone Pack. Once I crossed the boundary into pack ground, I was able to mind-link Mother. I told her where to meet me because I was certainly not going to that house I grew up in. While I waited with Ethan, I experienced something that I thought I never would. I closed my eyes and inhaled for long. The aroma of freshly squeezed orange juice mixed with the heady scent of roasted coconut. I was drawn to the source. “Where are you going?” It was when Ethan asked this question that I realized I was already moving towards the scent. I opened my eyes and stared at Ethan. I whispered, “My mate is somewhere around here.”ETHAN'S POV“I'm just concerned about the distance. You know, my place is all the way here in Sea Stone, while his own home is far away in Red Moon Pack. But who knows? I may as well move to Red Moon, now that my best friend has become Luna and queen…”I kept rambling until I looked up and saw that Fibi was no longer by my side. She was already a few meters away, moving as though she was sleepwalking.I tried to catch up with her, and I called out, “Where are you going?”Her reply came out like from a trance, “My mate is somewhere around here.”I glanced around. We had decided to wait for Sarah, Fibi's mother, in the woods, close to the pack ground boundary. Afar off in the direction that Fibi faced, I could only see a car, although it was a familiar car.I grabbed her hand to stop her. “What are you doing? You can't just go to him! Have you forgotten that you're married?” “But the mate bond is pulling me. I have to go to my real mate.” She argued, trying to break my grip on her wris
FIBI'S POV The kitchen maid was shedding heavy tears when she ran back to me.“Jill! What happened? What did he do to you?” I inquired. My alarm was evident in my tone. The girl hiccuped when she tried to talk. She was not calm enough to explain anything. However when I took a closer look at her apron, I saw for myself what my so-called husband did to her. I narrowed my eyes.“Alpha King Diego did this?” I went ahead to ask, though the question was unnecessary.Jill nodded, still sobbing. I fought to retain calmness in my body as I collected the dishes she still held. They were empty now, their hot content plastered to her apron. What sort of a person would pour soup that was piping hot on another person, an innocent kitchen maid for that matter?I had directed Jill on what herbs to use in making soup for Diego, the herbs that would set him on the path of healing. I even baked his bread myself. Then I instructed Jill to take the food to him in his office, where he now spent the large
FIBI'S POV“He’s here … Fibi… Fibi.. he’s here … get out of there … Fibi!” My mother was frantic, her voice sounding like a scared little child who was about to be caught stealing meat from her mother's pot.I jumped down from the bed at once and rushed out with her, to greet my father who just returned from wherever he went. I mean, it isn't as if he has a job. It's not that we fear him, we only fear the beatings and molestation we get from him on a daily basis. And if we delay one minute in welcoming him back home, he would beat us mercilessly again. While running to the main entrance door to meet with him, my eyes fell on the blue bruise close to my mother's left eye, and I almost burst into tears.“Leave the sentiment and add more speed to your feet Fibi!” My mother was agitated. I grunted loudly. “I regret having a father like him!” I muttered under my breath. I dared not say it out loud because we were already close to the door.“Welcome back… welcome …” My mother greeted him f
FIBI'S POV All through the journey with my father, I was scared and I kept wondering where we were going. His words cut through my musings. “You know you are not my child, right?” I froze in my seat. I was finally hearing the truth I suspected but tried to evade. No father would treat his child like my father treated me.My mother's earlier warning seeped into my brain. I then realized why she was worried enough to ask me to run.He turned away from the road before us, to spare me a glance. Then he broke into a long mocking laughter. It was like a knife had been plunged deep into my heart.“Your mother didn’t tell you? That bitch ... prostitute. She had you out of rape, my dear. Infact six men raped her and we don’t even know which of them is the father. When she became pregnant, I asked her to get rid of you but she refused. I ...”It was too much for me and I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I found myself shrieking like a wounded lion before bursting into pained tears. My father sto
DIEGO'S POV"She’s all yours now, my queen. The wedding process can begin. I will be here to make sure she gets married immediately.” The man's eager words drew my rage to him. He is too greedy and I felt like kicking him in the cock. What a shithole for a father! My own father would have died protecting me! “Mother, I don’t believe in all the moon goddess prophecy shit. Get these people ... these things ... out of my house.” I barked at my mother. Then she gave me that look, that one look that always melts my determination and resolution. “Mother, don’t do that please, I told you already, no woman is worth it. And she doesn’t seem to like me as well… right?” I turned to the girl kneeling before me.She nodded her head aggressively at once, agreeing with me. I didn’t know what to believe, maybe she really doesn’t want me or she’s pretending. A girl of her standard, in fact any girl at all, would jump at me.I rolled my eyes and looked back at my mother, but she still had that sweet a
FIBI'S POV“Leave her.” The voice was calm but commanding. It could only be one person: Elder Queen Diana, Alpha Diego's mother. Both my new maids and Ethan withdrew from me in immediate obedience. With a flick of her wrist, she dismissed them totally and they all dispersed as she came to sit beside me.She took my hands in hers while my tears kept flowing unchecked. She sighed.“Child, I'm sorry it had to be this way, but trust me, it's the best way.” She began.“You see, my son wasn't always this way. But there's only so much tragedy, betrayal and bitterness that a soul can take before it turns dark. Deep inside, the sweet soul I birthed is still there, but only a special she-wolf can get him out again.”I bawled harder at her words. I couldn't understand my place in all of this and why I had to be sold into a union I never asked for. She patted my back as tenderly as one would do to an infant. “Cry out all the tears you need to shed, my darling. Because after this, you're going to
DIEGO'S POV I pulled myself up from my custom-made bathtub and unto my wheelchair which I had left right beside the bathtub. Three years ago, I'd had my bathroom remodeled to better suit my needs. The bathtub was high enough that I could lower myself into it and also raise myself out of it, with the support of my arms.I flexed those arms now as I reached for the towel. I trained hard to keep fit and also strengthen all my other muscles. If my legs were going to be useless to me, at least my arms can become strong enough to support my weight whenever I need that.Simply tossing the towel over my lower body, I wheeled myself out the door. Then I stopped in my tracks.Who the hell is that on my bed? I wondered. My eyes were already seeing red before I got close enough to see her clearly.I swallowed. Hard. I fought it with my mind but my manhood had a mind of its own. It stood at attention under the towel, as if it was saluting the mouth-watering sight in front of me, throbbing almost
