Let’s go,” Meredith snapped at Nate, her voice sharp with urgency as she moved toward the door, not sparing him a backward glance. She had to get to Jake—before their friend did something he would regret.

It seemed that whenever their blonde friend was involved, their usually level-headed boy lost all ounces of rationality.

Nate hesitated, blinking at Meredith in confusion. He wasn’t ready to leave just yet—hadn’t even processed what was happening—but the blonde was already halfway to the door, leaving him with no choice but to follow.

He had to jog to keep up because, despite the heels on her feet, Meredith moved with the intensity of someone in a high-speed chase.

“Hey, what is wrong?” Nate demanded when he finally caught up with her.

Meredith didn’t slow down or acknowledge him beyond a clipped response, her voice tight with urgency.

“We need to get to Jake before he does something stupid.”

At the mention of their dark-haired friend, Nate’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching involu

Jake stilled, his vision red with rage. He glared at the older woman, suspicion creeping into his mind like a slow poison. Did she know that Adira wasn’t his mate? She couldn’t have. Adira wouldn’t have had time to tell her, and he was certain they weren’t close enough to share such a personal revelation. Yet, something in Kendra’s gaze unsettled him, like she held a secret he wasn’t privy to. Jake decided in that moment—one born from instinct and desperation. He would claim the blonde. They were already pretending to be mates for the Pack; what was one more person believing the lie? He straightened to his full height, forcing his expression into unwavering confidence. A smirk curled his lips, his voice laced with certainty. “And that is where you are wrong. Adira is my mate,” he declared boldly and possessively, as if saying it aloud would solidify the truth in the fabric of reality. Kendra’s entire being recoiled at the claim. Her wolf snarled a sound that remained locked be

The tension in the room was so palpable that a knife could cut through it. As Danny waited for the Alpha wolf to take the phone from his hand, he flicked a glance at his best friend to see how he was doing. The poor boy was almost purple, causing Danny to wince in sympathy, his expression crunching slightly. Trix let the blonde boy’s hand hang in the air for a few minutes longer, relishing the palpable tension. She has to teach the young wolves not to mess with her or her human again. Then she reached for the phone. “Hello,” she growled into the phone. Adira froze at the sound of her mate’s voice. “Trix,” she muttered in a low tone, her voice trembling slightly. Trix closed her eyes at her mate’s sweet voice whispering her name. A shiver ran down her spine, but she kept silent, waiting for her mate to speak. “Please, put him down,” Adira pleaded, her tone thick from the emotion clogging her throat at speaking to her mate’s wolf. Trix didn't speak immediately but

Outside her sister's room, Adira rested against the wall, her head raised, her eyes closed as she blinked back the tears that filled her eyes. She won’t cry, she thought strongly, her fingers folding into a fist. She gave herself a few seconds to gather her composure, then leaned off the wall and headed toward the lift, determined to forget what happened in her sister’s room. Jake paced like a caged animal as he and his friends waited for Adira to join them. Dylan sat at the driver’s side, the door open, his feet outside, and his ears plugged, his attention flicking between his pacing best friend and his phone. He tried to get Jake to calm down, but Jake ignored him like he was invisible. The dark boy is worried about the repercussions of his actions, and no matter how often he tells himself that Adira is not mad, he feels double the amount he is deluding himself. He might be a foot taller than the blonde, but the blonde, when angry, scares the shit out of him, and he is

Nate slipped the phone back into his phone and let out a tired sigh. He didn't want to deal with his friends, especially her. He took a step to continue his work, only to run into someone. He reacted quickly and caught the person before they could fall. He started to apologize even before he knew who he held. “I am so…” Nate stopped abruptly when he saw a pair of twinkling green eyes belonging to a stunning face with a crown of gorgeous red hair. He lost his train of thought, which the red hair in his arms found amusing. "Are you gonna let me go?" she teased, a beautiful smile playing across her lips. Nate’s face assumed the same color as his hair. “Of course,” he said shyly, letting the girl go like she was hot. She is hot—something every part of Nate acknowledges. The girl exudes unwavering confidence and seems to find Nate attractive as well. “Gloria.” she stretched her hand to Nate. “N-Nate,” Nate stammered, shaking the girl’s hand while kicking himself inside for ac

Jake encountered his friends before he and his father got to the door. He excused himself from the beta to speak to his friends, who did the same with their families. “Do you know what this is all about?” Nate asked, slipping his hands into his pockets. Like Jake, he had a suit on, though he let the buttons of the red shirt under the black suit run free a few buttons down, exposing his neck tattoos. Night surrounded the friends; the only illumination was the stars littering the sky. Jake shook his head with a clueless expression. “Mum just told me to get dressed and that we are having dinner here.” he shrugged his broad shoulders. As they talked, Meredith drove in and parked beside the other cars in front of the Pack House. She stepped down from the car and walked toward the boys in heels. She has yet to notice them, but the boys did. Nate stiffened at the sight of Meredith, which didn't escape the notice of his friends. “Dude, what is going on between you two?” Dylan

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Twenty-five: Tension in the room

Adira tried to be calm as her family and friends celebrated her and Jake's mateship, but she felt so uncomfortable inside that even Snow paced restlessly in her mind. It felt so wrong, the whole thing. Adira flew to her feet, unable to cope anymore with her guilt. Eyes turned to her, curious. The Alpha heir looked agitated, and everyone wanted to know what was bothering the young woman. “Honey, what is wrong?” Luna Grace asked the question, which echoed in everyone's mind. “I am fine, Mum.” Adira flashed a teeth grin at her mother that didn't reach her eyes. “But I need some fresh air.” Adira hurried out of the room before her mother or anyone else could say another word, leaving everyone glancing at each other, wondering what was wrong. Adira's friends all got serious about eating the food before them. None wanted anyone to ask them what was wrong with their friend as they couldn't answer. Jake got up as well and followed Adira out, further worsening everyone’s

Adira blinked in shock when she saw the blood dripping down her sister's body. You are hurt! She exclaimed, running to her sister without a second thought. When she got to her, she bent toward the wound to inspect why it was bleeding. "What happened?" She asked worriedly, her slender fingers tracing the edges of the newly opened wound. Kendra flinched from the warm touch on her skin, not because she was in pain but because of the warmth that traveled over her body at Adira’s touch. Thinking her sister was in pain, Adira quickly withdrew her hand and stared up at her, her green eyes radiating warmth and concern. "Does it hurt?" She asked innocently, unaware of the battle raging within her sister as she fought to control her desire. Adira gasped audibly at the quick transformation of Kendra’s eyes. The blue orbs looked fiery and tinged with gold. It wasn't just Kendra anymore, but her wolf as well. The hunger she glimpsed in her sister’s eyes sparked a flame of desire between Adir

Kendra relaxed back on the bed like a cat lazing under the afternoon sun as she listened to her sister converse with their mother. “Where are you, Adira?” Luna Grace asked from the other side of the phone, her voice tinged with concern. Many eyes watched her intently, waiting to hear about the whereabouts of the Alpha family’s youngest. Knowing her whereabouts could provide insight as to where the other kids disappeared. Neither the Alpha youngest nor her friends could be found in the dinner set in her honor, and her parents are worried and keen to know where their offspring jetted off to. Adira stole another look at her eldest sister, wondering if the brunette cared if their mother knew where she was. They were actually in the middle of something, and Adira would like to get back to it. “I am fine, Mum, don't worry about me.” She ended the call before her mother could say another word. “Where is she?” Alpha Conor demanded as soon as his mate got off the phone. Kendra’s cheeks burned from the hot slap she received from Kamara. She raised her hand to rub her throbbing cheek, her eyes cast downwards, while Kamara stood before her, panting from fury. Kamara can’t believe she raised a hand on someone. She isn’t a violent person, but seeing her dark-haired girlfriend kissing another woman, a girl, for that matter, breaks something inside her, and she wants to lash out. Kendra raises her face to stare into Kamara’s furious brown eyes. “I will give you that because I deserve it, but don’t ever raise your hand to me again,” Kendra warned seriously, even though her expression remained calm. Kamara felt bad, but her fury burned higher when Kendra acted as if she was doing her a favour instead of apologizing. The brunette scoffed, a sound full of mockery and anger, before she turned and walked back to her desk. She didn’t have the words to explain the emotions churning inside her right now. Kendra sighed, feeling like she was handling

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Forty-Two: I am her girlfriend!

Kendra has been so caught up in handling the issues that she forgot about Kamara, her girlfriend and work colleague. She and Kamara have been dating for six months now. Nothing serious, at least on Kendra’s part, though the brunette might have a different idea. She and Kamara met on a case. The lawyer was working on a high-profile case and needed a paralegal to help her since hers was on maternity leave. The partners tasked Kendra to help the Latino woman. The first moment they met, Kendra felt attracted to the attractive lawyer, and one night while working late, she took a shot. She didn’t believe she would score because the lawyer had appeared straight, but when she kissed the brunette by her desk that night, she shocked her by reciprocating. Kendra fucked her on her desk that night, and laterwards, the brunette admitted to being attracted to Kendra as well. It was supposed to be a one-night thing, but they found themselves fucking each time they were within two

“You know, not saying anything to me isn’t going to help you. It is just you wasting my time and yours, more yours than mine. At least I get paid either way,” the therapist jokes, but Kendra watches her flatly. The older woman's smile dries off her face, and she writes something down. She crosses her legs and uncrosses them. She has been a therapist for twenty years, and in all her years of practice, no client has disconcerted her like the young woman in front of her. She usually has the power in the room, but right now, she feels like a rat under a microscope. Those icy blue eyes sure burn like a laser beam. Kender smirked inwardly, watching the therapist squirm. The woman fights so hard to appear in control that she looks as if she has a stick up her ass. “You know I don’t bite, right?” She smirked at the auburn-haired woman. “That is not what I have heard,” the older woman blurts out, then blushes when she realizes how her words sounded. The younger woman across

As Kendra predicted, Adira arrived at school late. The school corridors were empty of students except for the blonde. She makes her way to her locker, picks up her books, and heads off to her first period. There is a spring to her step and a happy glow that wasn’t there a few days ago. Anyone looking closely could spot that there is something different about the blonde. Meredith spots this difference as soon as Adira sits beside her as usual. The beach blonde narrows her eyes at her best friend and asks. “What is going on with you?” Meredith kept her voice low to avoid attracting the attention of the teacher droning on in front of the class. Adira plays the dumb card. She looks at her best friend blankly and retorts, “What do you mean?” Her voice was low as well. Meredith didn’t speak immediately, her grey eyes searching the blonde’s green ones as if looking for something. She felt in her gut that there was something different about the blonde, but

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Thirty-Nine: Does She Suspect?

Kendra heard their mother long before she walked into her room. She has always been a light sleeper. As a warrior and a hunter, she trained herself to sleep with one eye open, ever ready for anything, even when asleep. The first thing that changed was her breathing before she opened her eyes. Her mother was just outside their door. Kendra moved her hand along the back of the young woman plastered against her side, soothing her back to sleep when the blonde grumbled as if disturbed by her nightmares. She felt her mother hesitate at her door before the older woman turned the handle and walked in. Kendra held her eyes closed and waited for the older woman’s reaction to the sight of her sister in her bed, plastered against her nakedness. She didn’t react like she had something to hide. Her sister sleeping beside her is all innocent, even though it is not unless they make it not so. Luna Grace doesn’t know how to interpret the sight before her. The s

While watching their Mother interact with her sister, Adira stares longingly, wishing things were different. She wants to be in her sister’s arms to assure herself she is alright, but she can’t because no one knows that she is her mate. When Kendra looks at her, Adira’s heart skips and her green eyes soften with tenderness as she silently coveys her feelings to the brunette. The stare lasts a brief second before Kendra looks away. She tries to rise from the couch, uncaring about her nakedness, when two warriors storm into the living room wearing urgent expressions, forcing her back to the sofa to hear what has the warriors looking like their houses are on fire. The warriors stop short to pay respect to the Luna and then ask after the Alpha when they don’t see his tall frame in the living. "He is in his office," Luna Grace directs, and they turn to leave, but Kendra speaks, stopping them in their tracks. "What is the

After her shower, Adira joins her mother in the living room. The older woman offers her a cup of hot coffee as she sits beside her on the sofa. "Anything?" Adira looks at her mother as she takes a sip, her still cold inside welcoming the warm heat of the coffee. Luna shakes her head as she peers into her daughter's worried eyes, her similar eyes reflecting the same emotion. "Nothing yet." Just as she finished speaking, the outdoors crashed open, and the warriors rushed in carrying an unconscious Kendra, the Alpha hot on their heels. The warriors gently set Kendra on the long sofa while the Alpha barks. "Can someone call the Pack doctor?!" Mother and daughter flew to their feet with confused, terrified expressions. They looked from passed-out Kendra to the Alpha, who stared at his daughter worriedly and demanded together. "Dad, what happened?!""Honey, what happened?!"The Alpha looked from his daughter to his mate, his eyes resting on her worried face. "Your stubborn, reckless d

Kendra looked toward the snapped twig, and glowing red eyes met her sharp blue ones. She quickly pushed her sister behind her as multiple big wolves prowled out of the darkness. Their glowing red eyes contrasted sharply with the thick darkness surrounding them. Kendra heard Adira whimper in fear and quickly reassured her without taking her eyes off the six rogues that had them semi-surrounded."Don't be scared. I will keep you safe."Her voice sounded confident and cold. Her expression was fierce. The one thing she will not take a chance with is the young woman's life behind her. She means too much to her.The assurance in her sister's voice settled Adira's nerves. Kendra's sharp mind assessed their situation. She wondered how the rogues could access their land without alerting the patrol. Secondly, she was outnumbered. Although skilled, she can't face off six rogues alone and keep her sister safe. She needed backup, and even though Kendra hated asking for help, she knew she needed

Adira stared at her father in disbelief, her eyes blazing with anger. "You can't force me to mate with someone who isn't my mate!" she snapped loudly, her fists clenching and unclenching in frustration. Alpha Conor stared at his daughter with a cold and calm expression, unbothered by her explosive reaction. She was young and didn't know what was best for her. If the moon goddess hadn't given her a mate, then Jake would be good for her. He knew his daughter loved the young man and was stubborn because he had asked her to mark him. "I didn't; you did," Alpha Conor replied in a leveled tone. He didn't shrug to show how much he didn't care about his objection, but the others felt his nonchalant reaction to his daughter's anger. That is not to say that Alpha Conor doesn't care for his daughter because that is far from the truth. The BlackMoon Pack's alpha loves his daughters so much, but he believes his daughter is too young to know what is good for her. Luna Grace was stuck between he
