💍 CHAPTER 3 💍
YEARS LATER
The door of a building was pushed open and a totally different Melina walked in. Dressed in a simple yet fashionable jumpsuit, her hair tied up in a neat ponytail that brought out the smoothness of her face, she walked elegantly and gracefully into the building. As she stepped through, all the workers stood up and greeted her with a slight bow.
"Good morning, Miss Melina. Welcome "
Melina eagerly returned their greetings with a broad smile before making her way to her small office. Plunging to the chair, she leaned back, resting her head with her eyes closed and a bright smile on her lips. She took out her phone and dialed a number.
The call connected immediately.
"Hello, Aunt "
"Hello, my dear. Have you arrived at work? "
"Yes, Aunt. I just got there now. Are my two little happiness still asleep? "
"They are fully awake, my dear. The only reason you're not hearing their voices is that they are in the bathroom, brushing...
"Grandma, we're done brushing! So what's next?!" Two little voices quickly interrupted Barbera and a soft laugh left Melina's lips.
"You spoke way too soon, Aunt "
"Grandma, who is on the phone? Is it Mommy?! We want to talk to her, we want to talk to her! "
Melina threw her head back and laughed heartily.
It's been six good years since she left her hometown and everything in her life has changed. Months later after she left, she found out she was carrying twins instead; a boy and a girl, and she couldn't contain the joy inside her.
She decided to pursue her goal despite being pregnant because, since day one, Melina was never interested in politics like her father wanted her to be. Instead, she wanted to become a fashionista. With the help of Barbera and the little money she saved from working part-time, she furthered her education to a fashion and design school. And even after giving birth to her two adorable little angels; Shantel and Leon, she didn't drop out.
After years of hard work, Melina finally finished schooling.
Now, she was a very successful fashionista and also a cloth model, working in the biggest Clothing and Design company in Bordertown, the small city she left Westwood to with her aunt. She has won a lot of awards for being the top best fashionista of the year.
Things have been going great. She made sure to give her kids the best life they could ever wish for and shower them with the love her parents never gave her. Despite how busy she is, she will always have time for them.
And as for her kids, they and Barbera has always been her backbone.
But every once in a while,
"Mommy, when is Daddy coming back? " Shantel asked the one question she always bring up. The smile on Melina's face died down in a split second.
"Is he not done with his business trip yet? Does he love his work more than us? "
When her kids turned three and could now understand what a complete family looked like, they asked Melina where their Daddy was and she lied to them that their father was on a business trip. Since then, her kids wouldn't stop questioning her especially whenever they go to school and hear other children talking about what their father did for them.
"Shantel, my baby. Daddy is not done yet but that doesn't mean he loves his business more than you. He will be back very soon, ok? I promise, he will." Melina didn't like that she was lying once again to her baby.
"Ok, Mommy. We believe you. "
"So tell me, have you both prepared for school? Are all your school accessories in your various bags? "
"Yes, Mom. All that is remaining is to eat and we're off. Grandma has prepared some delicious pancakes for us " Leon answered. Melina's smile resurfaced.
"That's good "
"Mommy will be going now. I need to get back to work. The both of you should enjoy your day at school, ok? And Leon... "
"Yes, Mom "
"Make sure to protect your sister. You know I always leave her in your care "
"You have that covered, Mom "
"Hey! But that's unfair, Mommy. I'm not a kid anymore so why do I need Leon to protect me? I can protect myself " Shantel huffed and Melina could already imagine how red and puffed her big cheeks must be now. She chuckled.
"Ok now. You both should go and eat. Give grandma back the phone "
"Bye, Mommy. We love you! " Melina could feel her heart melt hearing that from them.
"I love you both too "
The phone was given back to Barbera.
"Don't you think it's about time you tell them the truth about their father? They're six now and I'm sure they would understand "
"I will, Aunt. I will, very soon. I'm just waiting for the right time" Melina mumbled with a sigh.
"It's alright, dear. Let me send them off to school. Enjoy your day "
"You too, Aunt "
Melina let out a deep sigh, her head rested on the chair. Almost then, a knock came.
"Come in "
A young lady entered.
"Good morning, Ma'am"
"Good morning, Lily. Any update? "
"Yes, Ma'am. All the designs you introduced last week have been successfully completed. You can take a look at them later. But for now, all novice employees have reported their presence. They are waiting for you to start the training, Ma'am." Lily reported.
"Hmm. That's good."
"Also, Ma'am. Director Maxwell wants to speak to you. He is in his office, waiting."
"Is everything ok?." Melina questioned with a slight frown.
"Of course. He's actually in a good mood today." Lily chuckled and Melina smiled faintly.
"Ok. You can go now."
Lily bowed and left. Melina stood up and left too. She knocked on getting to the supposed Director's office and a voice ushered her in from inside.
"Good morning, Mr. Maxwell. You called for me."
"Oh, Melina, dear! Welcome! Have a seat " A middle-aged man, seated on his chair with his protruded belly begging to be let free from the almost tight shirt he was putting, clamored, his eyes glittering in excitement.
Melina let out a scoff before sitting.
"You seem to be in a very good mood today, Mr. Maxwell. Can I know the cause of your joy?."
"Well, of course, you will, Melina, you will." Mr. Maxwell chortled.
"Finally, after all these years, EXMO CLOTHING AND DESIGN COMPANY is getting the recognition it truly deserves. Soon, people all around the world will come to know of us. More investors will start coming and we will finally expand to various branches all around the world! " Mr. Maxwell wasn't making any sense to Melina who stared at the overexcited man with confusion.
"Can you head to the point already, Mr. Maxwell? "
"Ok, sorry " Maxwell let out a slight cough.
"We are having a special visitor tomorrow."
"Dominic Hartless, the richest and most powerful man of Westwood is coming to visit us! "
"Mr. Hartless has recently intruded the fashion industry and wanted to introduce the best clothing industry in his city. EXMO was among the companies he was recommended to try out. Can you believe this, Melina? "
Melina on the other hand wasn't even listening to what Maxwell was blabbering. The moment he had mentioned Westwood, her mind wandered back to the memories she has been trying to forget.
"Melina, are you even listening? " Maxwell's question snapped the lost woman out of her thoughts.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Maxwell. I didn't listen attentively."
"It's fine. But I'm sure you heard what I said. "
"Yes."
"Perfect! I want us to give Mr. Hartless the absolute best even more than what he would ask for. We have to present our top best design so far so I'm leaving everything to your care, Melina. Can you handle that, Melina? "
"I will try my best, Mr. Maxwell."
"Splendid! I know I can always trust you! That's why your my top fashionista! "
Melina let out a slight scoff. This man is just overdramatic.
"Is that all? Can I leave now? "
"Of course, you can! Enjoy the rest of today"
Melina stood up and left. The gloom in her face quickly reappeared when Westwood came playing in her mind again.
"I wonder how Mom and Dad are doing? Are they living fine? Have they already forgotten about me?"
×. ×. ×
"Shantel! Leon! I'm back!" Melina announced as she stepped foot into her house. She was back from work.
"They won't hear you. They're pretty much busy upstairs." Barbera who was stepping out of the kitchen muttered.
"Good evening, Aunt."
"Mila, my dear. Welcome"
"Thank you. What are my two little angels doing upstairs?"
"Those geniuses. Well, Shantel is in my room dancing and singing. Since they came back from school, I haven't heard a thing apart from her voice. My ears should be bleeding by now."
"And as for, Leon, you know what he's doing by now."
"Playing video games. Yeah, I know " Melina laughed and Barbera joined her.
Shantel and Leon were indeed two very unique and smart kids who were way smarter than their age. Shantel from a very young age loved dancing and singing. Melina and Barbera noticed Shantel's love for music from as little as when she was three. And the older she gets, the more perfect she becomes with her dance steps. Whenever she comes back from school, she would go to Barbera's room to practice and pull the whole building down with her angelic voice.
Leon on the other hand was a master of drawing and of course, gagets. Barbera always refers to him as 'the little engineer' as he would always experiment with any electronic device he lays his hand on. There isn't any gadget in this world Leon can't handle.
"You should go and freshen up, Melina. Dinner is ready. I will go and call Shantel and Leon"
"Don't worry, Aunt. Let me do that" Melina headed upstairs. She was still at the stairs when,
"And oh, I forget to tell you, dear. We will be having a visitor this evening"
"Who?"
"It's a surprise, Melina...
💍 CHAPTER 4 💍Melina after having a refreshing bath and talking to her kids came downstairs and assisted Barbera in setting up dinner. The two women were busy chatting and laughing when a tiny voice quickly interrupted them."We are eating Grandma's magical pudding tonight!" Barbera and Melina were surprised to see an excited little Shantel standing before them, her eyes glimmering greatly as she stared at the delicacies on the table. With her round, big brown eyes, round fluffy face, and a pair of small nose and lips, Shantel was the perfect replica of Melina when it comes to appearance. Just one glance at her and one can already see Melina. She was like the little version of her."Shantel, you're too loud. Keep quiet" A little boy with beautiful grey eyes and small pouty lips muttered. That was Leon. His eyes were focused on the gamepad he was holding."When did these two get here?" Barbera glanced at Melina, surprised. "You don't tell me what to do, Leon" Shantel huffed an
💍 CHAPTER 5 💍"What kind of a lowlife company is this?" The most powerful man of Westwood wasn't impressed with what he saw. To him, this isn't what a top company should be like! It was way below his standards!"Is this a joke to you, Ethan?" His hard gaze washes over his assistant who nodded negatively immediately."Please calm down, Boss. I know this doesn't suit your taste, but you haven't seen their designs yet. I promise it is totally worth it. Just look beyond the poor appearance." What Ethan said didn't suit well with Dominic's dissatisfaction. "Get the car ready, Ethan. I have other appointments to meet. I don't have any spare time to waste here" The cold man turned and was more than eager to leave. Dominic was a man of great principle and power, who likes everything done perfectly. He isn't the type to tolerate a company this disorganized or so to say. He was just about to leave when Mr. Maxwell spotted him. The overly excited man exclaimed;"Oh, Mr. Hartless, you're a
💍 CHAPTER 6 💍 Melina and her kids finally arrived at Westwood International Airport together with Barbera. Shantel and Leon were excited to finally see the huge city they'd heard so much about. "Mommy, this airport is very huge and classic. And they are a lot of people here. I like it!" Shantel, who was more enthusiastic remarked, a bright beam on her face. Melina held the little girl while Barbera held Leon as they made their way to the arrival section. While waiting at the arrival section, someone spotted them and started waving at them. "Melina! Over here!" A feminine voice called out and when Melina's eyes spotted her, waves of unexplainable happiness washed down her. There, standing not so far from her and her kids was her longtime best friend, Abigail but there was someone else with her, a little girl of about 4 years old. The two women, now overwhelmed with emotions ran to each other in a very tight hug, tears of happiness running down their faces. "Oh, Melina. It's been
💍 CHAPTER 7 💍 It was a cool Saturday afternoon, a few days after Melina and her kids came back to Westwood. Shantel and Leon spent these few days exploring the new city they moved into. Every day they would ask Melina to take them somewhere new in Westwood and since Melina was yet to start work, she gladly accepted. Today, they were going to explore the city's biggest amusement park; The Greatest Park of Westwood. The two brats were excited especially Shantel. The little girl was exhilarated. She couldn't even sleep an inch last night. Even before morning came, the little girl woke up and arranged everything she will needing for the little tour. Melina and her kids left after bidding bye to Barbera. A few rides later, they got to the park. Shantel's jaw dropped to the floor and her pupils dilated vastly at how huge and ecstatic the park was. Her eyes gleamed in excitement as she got a little view of the heaven-like place. Even Leon was rendered wordless. There wasn't a single amu
💍 CHAPTER 8 💍 Melina came out from the cotton candy stand and was surprised to see Leon running towards her. "Wow, calm down Leon. The cotton candy isn't running away" She chuckled but then, the moment she saw the sad gloom on Leon's face, the smile on her face vanished. Looking around she realized, Shantel wasn't with him. Melina's heart immediately cut. "Leon, where is your little sister?" She demanded, praying what she was assuming wasn't true. But sadly, that wasn't the case. "Mommy, Shantel is nowhere to be found. I've looked everywhere for her but I can't find her" The little boy dropped the shocking news. ×. ×. × Dominic Hartless turned and stared down at the cute little girl standing before him, her big brown eyes glowing in excitement. A familiar feeling washed down him making a frown appear on his face. Little Shantel flashed him a broad smile and his heart skipped a bit. Dominic Hartless has never seen a smile this innocent and beautiful! But then to his shock, "Ex
💍 CHAPTER 9 💍"Boss, do you think there's ever a possibility of you having kids you know nothing of?" Ethan's question didn't suit well with Dominic. The cold man shot him a deadly glare. Is this man trying to insult him or what?"If you want to rub it to my face that I'm still unmarried why don't you say it directly and stop beating around the bush?" "No, no that's not what I mean, Boss. I know you don't have a wife yet and it sounds crazy what I'm about to say but I can't help it...""There's this little boy I met today who looks just like you! It's crazy how the both of you have a striking resemblance. And oh, did I forget to mention that he talks and behaves just like you? One might think he is your son! " Dominic frowned, not seeing any sense behind what Ethan just said."A lot of people look alike, Ethan. Similarly, a kid can get a resemblance to someone who isn't their parent. I don't see what's alarming about that.""You're probably right, Boss. It's just a coincid
💍 CHAPTER 10💍 "Which means on Monday, Mommy and Daddy's love story will begin!" Shantel exclaimed. "Exactly. But for that to happen, we have to meet Daddy first. You've already met him but I haven't. I still have a lot of questions to ask him." "Hmm. How are we going to meet him then? We can't just visit him in his office, can we?" "Don't worry, Shantel. A way will come and if it doesn't, we will create on ourselves. One thing I know for sure is that we are going to reunite with our Daddy soon ." FAST FORWARD TO MONDAY... Melina and the kids left the house after eating breakfast. And even though she didn't have enough money at hand, she was going to enroll them in a school. Not just any school, Westwood Elementary High, the best elementary school in the entire city. She was planning on using her employee certificate as a sort of collateral to enroll her kids. Ethan had informed her that the school will allow her so far she has a certified and legal method of paying. Melina an
💍 CHAPTER 11 💍 A knock came on Dominic's door and Ethan entered. Seeing the silly grin on Ethan's face, Dominic frowned. What was this assistant of his up to now? "Wow, Boss. You never told me we were now offering free scholarships to the children of our employees. Was that the new employee benefit you were talking about? I'm 100% sure that all the employees of the Hartless Empire will be more than grateful for this kind and thoughtful act of yours, Boss. Bravo!" A hard glare was sent to the blabbermouth who swallowed back his chuckle and let out a slight cough instead. "Why are you here?" Dominic demanded, hissing through his teeth. "My bad, Boss. I came to inform you that Miss Melina wants to meet you. She wants to thank you personally for the new employee benefits." Ethan noticed how Dominic's pupils dilated at the mention of Melina. "So I will like to know if you're in any way free or perhaps chanced to see her, Boss." He added with a snicker. Keeping a cold expression, Do
Months passed after Eric's death, they mourned and they moved on.It hit his father the hardest because he felt that he was at fault for letting Eric grow up with so much hatred in his heart. His family was finally reunited. He had resumed his role as the president of the company and Melina resumed her role as CEO of her own company. He proposed to Melina on the eve of their anniversary where she announced the news that she was pregnant. In light of the joyous news, they finally gor married with Shantel and Leon as their best man and maid of honour. It was a joyous occasion.Six months after that, the family welcomed their second set of twins after a very long and tortuous labour. They parents entrusted Shantel and Leon with naming their siblings which they did.Their names were...Micheal and Michela
NOTE; This chapter is not edited Evelyn opened her eyes to find herself in the hospital surrounded by stainless steel objects and disinfectant. At the far end of the room,Dominic was standing in place with the doctor. She could only hear snippets of the conversation."Am afraid her Amnesia is quite serious. She just felt overwhelmed by the memories flooding back.Thats why she fainted."the doctor had said solemnly and with a fre exchange of words he exited the room.Dominic realized that she was awake and rushed to her side instantly, giving her a sad smile."Hey"he greeted."Hi"she gave him a weak smile. Not being one to mince his words,he spoke up."Why didn't you tell me you had amnesia ?"he asked softly."I didn't see how that was important "she responded weakly. Before he could ask any other question, she had dozed off.The morphine must have kicked inAs he watched her sleep,he vowed to do everything in his power to regain her lost memory. She just had to remember them.A week went by
"Dominic..." She called out softly making his eyes widened greatly."I... I...love you" She mumbled before passing out in his arms. For a moment Dominic stared at her, excited and surprised at the same time. She remembers, she remembers him.Without waking her or his children who were sound asleep in their rooms amidst all the commotion, he lifted her up in his arms and carried her to bed.Covering her with a duvet, he sat down beside her and held her hand,. placing a kiss on it."You don't know how happy I am to hear you call my name, Melina. I love you"* * * *The next morning, she groaned in pain. She felt the loud pounding in her head as she struggled to get up.Looking around the room, she felt a familiar peace as she glanced around the beautiful decorated room."Ugh"she grunted. Placing a hand on her pounding head, she threw the duvet away from her ,only to find that she wasn't alone. There with her was Dominic sleeping so peacefully beside her.she couldn't hide the smile that esca
ONE WEEK LATERAfter confirming with her assistant, Dominic and Evelyn set up a time, which was today by 5pm although she had warned them ahead of time that she would be late. They couldn't find a suitable venue by that time of day so he settled for a making dinner at his place. In the five years he had been without Melina, Dominic had picked up a thing or two about cooking. He knew how to make pasta which was what he intended to make.Three horrible attempts later, he had everything setup and freshened up, preparing himself to welcome her into his home. He popped open the wine and poured himself a glass as he waited for her arrival. The kids were in their bedroom.Hours ticked by and Evelyn was still not there. He picked up his phone and dialed but the line wasn't connecting. He tried a handful of times before redirecting her call to her office. The call was answered after the first two rings."Hello" A strange voice sounded at the other end. The voice didn't belong to her."Hello, w
The moment Dominic and Shantel got back home, he issued a check to the Nanny and sent her on her merry way never to be seen by him again. He headed straight to his study room to call Ethan. There was something he needed him to do.His hands were sweating and his breath heaved as he dialed the number on his phone. Ethan picked up at the first ring."Yes, Sir""Ethan, I want you to dig into possible whereabouts of my wife's body. Was she cremated or buried?" He inquired. "Sir?" Ethan blurted out in surprise ."I need you to do this for my peace of mind" He explained. "If I may ask, Boss, what is this about?" Ethan asked. Dominic could sense the uneasiness in his voice. But he knew he had to. Seeing Melina today made him realize many things. All cases regarding her accident and death was sealed and ruled out and her body was taken care of while he had been in prison. He wasn't the one that buried her. He didn't even see her body. By the tine he was out of prison, she was already buried
As Everlyn watched the world haze by, the faint sound of someone calling out for her rang in her ears. For a brief moment, a flash hit her. Someone was calling out for her; a little girl. She couldn't see her face but her voice was getting softer and softer, almost like she was walking far away from her.Getting shocked out of her reverie, she looked down at the teary-eyed girl who was gazing up at her so hopefully. She didn't want to be the one to dash her hopes but she had to set things straight. She didn't know her and she had never seen her before. Not that she can remember at least."Sweetie, I think you're confusing me with someone else" She spoke softly, ruffling Shantel's long brunette hair that was just like hers. It was an uncanny resemblance and somewhere at the back of her mind, she felt that small voice calling out to her. Telling her that they were connected. But she shoved those incessant thoughts away and focused on what was real.Shantel on the other hand couldn't bel
"Ethan, have you gotten the proper documents needed for the dealership shipment tomorrow?" Dominic asked as he glanced through the array of folders that lay splayed all over his desk. They were so close to their launch and they couldn't afford any mistakes or delay. It would be catastrophic If they encounter any sort of loss due to negligence."Boss, about the contract proposal from the new company?" Ethan demanded but without looking up from the documents, Dominic waved a hand dismissively. "We do not have time to deal with something that huge when we have a bigger deal on our hands" He responded, sifting through the blue spiral-bound envelope."But, Boss. I went through the contract some weeks ago and it looked really promising and we were allowed full creative control if we were to take it up." Ethan informed, adjusting his glasses as he placed the opened document in front of Dominic's desk.Dominic finally looked up and Ethan directed his gaze to the file. Reluctantly, he took th
Five years later...Staring out from the glass pane windows that overlooked the outskirts of the city. The thoughts of the last couple of years came replaying in Dominic's mind.Five years ago, with the help of Ethan, he was proven innocent and was released from prison. But after his release from prison, things have never been the same. Within five years he was able to gather his life back together a little bit. Though he was proven innocent, the board of directors teamed up with Eric and removed him as the president of the Hartless Empire, making Eric the president instead. But that wasn't a setback for Dominic. Even though he was no longer the president, within five years, he took over VVC fully and made the best fashion company in Westwood. Within five years, he was able to regain his fame and power and was still known as the most powerful man in Westwood. But all of this meant nothing to Dominic. All the fame and power to him were useless. What was the point of gathering his life
Back in Westwood, Dominic was grappling with his own demons. He had retreated from the world, haunted by the accusations and the uncertainty of who had committed the terrible crime. He was also in shambles over Melina and her decision to break up.As he sat in his cell contemplating his life an officer came up the cell and began unlocking it. “Let's go, Dominic, you have a visitor.”Dominic's heart soared as he envisioned Melina had come to visit him.He stayed still as his hands and feet were handcuffed and he was led out of the tiny, cramped cell.He was let into the poorly lit room and made to sit down.Dominic was confused and just as he was about to question the guard Eric revealed himself."Hello, Dominic," Eric said, a malevolent grin on his face as he sat down across from Dominic in an interrogation room. "It's been a while."Eric was a tall, handsome man with a charming smile. He was also a ruthless businessman who was determined to destroy Dominic.Dominic's face lost all of
