Chapter 16
Cindy’s POVIt felt nice to have my mum by my side again after so long. The drive home from the supermarket was a surprisingly long one due to the lunch break rush hour traffic.
We arrived home, with my poor feet crying out from exhaustion. I quickly introduced my mum to all the other staff, and funny enough, I didn't even find it surprising to see my mum and Grace hit things off like they had known each other for ages.
Sitting down in one of the sofas in the living area, I watched Simon make continuous trips to the car to get the groceries, I smiled at him, grateful for his resourcefulness.
I also observed how the man couldn't keep his eyes away from my mum… his senses were all attuned to her, especially when she laughed, it was honestly so adorable.
Too bad mom wasn't looking for a relationship. My waist was hurting so bad. I really could
Chapter 17The baby is coming!!That’s all I heard.Nothing else made sense after that. Basically, everything was in a blur.Grace met us down the stairs, I think she heard mum’s initial scream. I felt them both gently drag me outside towards the car where Simon was already waiting. And that’s when it hit me.My very first painful contraction.I screamed from the intensity of the pain, ignoring the soothing voices of my mum and Grace. When the pain had subsided, I burst into tears.“I can’t do this anymore mum.” I wailed.I felt her hold unto my shoulders, her voice so very far away. I was already starting to sweat in bucketfuls. “Listen to me Cindy, you can do this. You are strong, you are powerful, and this pain will barely be remembered when you are finally holding your bundle of joy in your arms, alright?”“Come on Cindy, we need to get you to the hospit
Chapter 18Mike“Mariam, meet Dr. Mike, Mike meet Mariam, Cindy’s mother.”Did she just say Cindy’s mother?Or perhaps I misheard her?No, I don’t think so. I mean, my sight may be bad but my hearing is quite impeccable. We both stood there looking at each other in surprise, the shock on both our faces pretty evident especially when I realized that all that Mariam had told me was about Cindy.I started to panic a little. “Grace, have you heard anything from the doctors yet?”She shook her head in the negative.I squared my shoulders and gave them both nod. “I’m going in.”Cindy’s mother grabbed me by the arm, halting me in my tracks. “Are you sure they’ll let you in?”I smirked. “I’m a doctor, remember? They’ll need all the help they can get.”I barged into the ward. “God, Cindy!”There she was, my little. All color had drained from her face, and she seemed to be in so much pai
Brian’s POV Today went pretty well and I was in a very good mood. I just couldn’t explain the feeling. It felt like there was this warmth growing in my chest and I just couldn’t understand it. Either way, it felt like a good thing so I was just going to go with the flow. Rosaline, my partner, and now girlfriend told me she would be passing by my office so we could have lunch together. Perhaps, that was the reason why I felt so happy… I honestly don't know. Rosaline and I started a relationship a few weeks ago, and it was going great so far. I mean, the sex is great and I’m not complaining. I honestly don't mean to sound like a jerk but that's exactly what this relationship is all about, and I've made it pretty clear to Rosaline, and she seems to have no problem so, I guess it's all good. I must admit, Rosaline is really an amazing woman and I've honestly tried to feel something for
Chapter 20 Six years later Cindy's Pov “Kayla! Come on honey, we've got to go or else you'd be late.” I shouted as I proceeded to exit the house to my car. Six years. It's been a whole rollercoaster you know? Having to juggle the responsibility of raising a six year old while managing a rapidly growing fashion line was tough, but I was loving every bit of it. Besides, I had the best support system a young woman could ask for, meaning I was basically living the good life. “Bye grandma, bye grandpa.” I heard my little girl holler before hurrying to join me outside. A whole lot had happened in the space of six years, starting with Janet, my best friend getting a scholarship to go study abroad. She had come to see me a week after Kayla was born and Dr. Mike, being the good man he was, had asked her to stay for a few days. The good new
Brian's POVI can't believe six years have passed already. It feels like I'm growing old, you know? Well, I know everyone will eventually grow old and die, hell nature itself has made it that way, but what I didn't expect was for time to fly by so fast.Life in New York isn't so bad, I'm actually liking it more and more here each day, and I'm quite uncertain as to whether I'd even be going back to Ghana at all.Maybe to visit, cos this place is starting to feel like home.I don't have anything holding me back there after all, you know?My impromptu trip to Ghana in search of Cindy six years ago still continues to haunt me even as we speak. In fact, that incident had been the major thing to make me decide to move indefinitely to the UK.Believe me when I tell you that I tried everything I could to find her after the dead end at the hospital.Everything.Private investigators, police compl
Chapter 22 Cindy’s POV Well if you haven't figured it out by now, I'll tell you. Sam is my fiancé. He’s a good guy, I'm actually very lucky to have him you know? It's funny how when he started pursuing me, I initially hated his guts. We met at the neighborhood’s park, one cool afternoon. Kayla was just three years old then and the weather was too perfect to not go on a walk. He just happened to be walking his dog that day, a very cute brown and white collie that even I could not help but admire. I must have been staring for quite too long, because before I knew it, Kayla had torn her hand away from mine and was dashing towards the dog at amazing speed. I swore under my breath and chased after her. My little girl was a very passionate animal lover even at such a young age, but my only concern in that moment was to make sure the dog didn't harm her in any way. flashback

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREECindy’s POV“Cindy, will you move in with me?”That sentence was our parting words, since I couldn’t say anything after he dropped that bombshell on me.I had tucked in Kayla and had also retired to the comfort of my sheets but the comfortable goodness couldn’t help take my mind off what Sam had said earlier. He’s amazing and all but he knew I had just moved away from my parents not quite long ago and he also knew that Kayla and I had just started to finally settle in our new home so I didn’t know why he suddenly wanted to rush things all of a sudden. To be honest, he had rendered me speechless because I didn’t want him thinking I wasn’t fully committed but I was also very proud of what I had been able to build. Sam has always been patient with me and always understanding, so I was really hoping this wasn’t going to be a problem.By the time I was drifting off i
Chapter 27BrianBrian focused on the screen before him not wanting to miss a bit of the moment. It was the second doctor’s appointment for the baby’s checkup and Brian was a happy man. He had literally worshipped the ground Rosa walked on. He made sure she didn’t do anything around and house or even carry anything a bit heavy. He would talk to Rosa’s bum Every chance he got and make sure the tiny creature knew how much he is loved. Both Rosa and Brian were so focused on the screen that the didn’t notice the uneasy look on the doctor’s face. Both parents were over the moon with the news that the doctor just didn’t want to break their hear. The doctor then cleaned the gel on her stomach and covers the little bum that was beginning to develop. He cleared his throat after the examination prompting the parents to finally pay attention to him.“I would need to have a word with you in my office if you like” the doctor saidThe couple still in very naïve about the heavy news they were going
(Cindy instantly tried to shield her daughter and dragged the little girl behind her) It was already too late though; Lisa and Thelma had already gotten a good glance of the little girl who undeniably looked like someone they all know too well. Lisa couldn’t register the anything as the events unfolds right in front of her eyes. Everything she knew of her brother and the former maid was all a lie. How could this happen? This didn’t make sense and she was going to make it make sense before leaving. Cindy on the other hand wasn’t taking this slightly though. She tried to get them all to go back to her car, but even she knew that it was not going to work, and Lisa calling out her name actually confirmed it. The former maid just couldn’t believe it. Six years. Six freaking years. She had managed to avoid the poisonous family for six whole years and now here they all were, swarming into her life all over again like evil bees… or even worse, locusts. All the walls she had built up al
Chapter twenty-fiveWe had been discharged the following day just as the nurse had promised. A week had passed by since then.Everything was going great and I couldn’t be much happier. Mum had come by a couple of times, and that helped a lot since I had to go to work and Kayla needed someone to be by her side while she had that long week rest the doctor had prescribed for her along with her medications.I woke up early as usual, my heart giddy with that usual thrill of knowing I was going to work, but when I stepped into my bathroom for a quick shower, a quick look at my calendar revealed that I had it all wrong. It was Sunday. I’m pretty sure the loud groan of frustration I let out woke up the entire neighborhood, but then again, I always loved exaggerating so I wasn’t really sure. Why in the hell had I woken up early then?It was too late for church… seeing as I wasn’t ready physically and mentally, and being one of those people who could never go to bed once they were awake, I kn
BRIAN’S POV“Rosa! You coming? We’re running late! I hollered down the hallway, glancing at my watch in frustration. Honestly, what was it with women and being late all the time? We were just going to see the obstetrician for fuck’s sake.“Geez Brian,” Rosaline huffed, hopping towards me and trying to slip on her heels in the process. “You’d think you’re the pregnant one here, come on, let lose.” She teased playfully, but I paid her no mind, my eyes focusing on the long strappy things she was wearing. “Are you sure you should be wearing those though?”She shot me a pointed look. “You do know I’m only pregnant, not invalid, right?” She inched close to me, planting a light kiss on my lips. “I’m really glad you’re all in with me, Brian,”“I’m really glad I am too, Rosa.” I admitted softly with a smile, pulling h
