Jameson's POV

After taking Avery's number from Flair, I texted her, but she didn't respond immediately. After hours, while I was still awake because I had barely gotten any sleep, she responded to my text, and we walked until I was ready for the impromptu class of the day.

Pulling up in front of her house, she looked like a goddess. Her dress was awesome, and the way she stood with her hands in front of her gave me the chills.

She hopped into the car, and we then had a brief conversation.

Conversation? More like a brief argument. It went on for a few minutes before the car suddenly fell silent. I decided not to give her a hard time; maybe she mistook my attention for bullying.

My father sponsors her fees, but there was something that Avery wasn't aware of. She believed that the reason why the Alpha sponsors her tuition is because of her grades.

Unbeknownst to her, hundreds of students have good grades from prestigious schools, yet the Alpha didn’t consider them worthy of his schol

Avery's POVThe silence was awkward. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad that Jameson had his eyes fixed on the road without having any thought to bully me.I decided to plug in some headphones, thinking that listening to music would be enough for me not to feel the awkwardness.Just after plugging in the headphones, it didn't take long before I got tired of my playlist. I think it was high time I updated my music collection. Most times, it could be tiring listening to one particular track of music over and over again. After unplugging the headphones, I said without thinking, "Why do you even care about going to this class? Isn't your father the Alpha? I'm sure with or without you going to classes, you will surely be able to pass your grades well."Jameson turned to me, his brows twitching in anger. Was that a wrong thing to say? Shouldn't I have thought before saying something as unreasonable as that? Oh wait, is it unreasonable? Why isn't he saying anything?Millions of thought

Avery's pov Nothing sounded bad with going on a date with him and like he said, it was only to make it up to me."It doesn't sound bad," I responded causing Jameson to smile. I noticed that he was specially happy although he tried to hide it.Soon, we arrived at the school premises. At the beginning of the rude, I desperately wanted the ride to come to an end quickly but after I started getting a little comfortable, I didn't want the ride to end. In fact, I was specially enjoying it."No, hold on," Jameson said, offering to open the door for me but I hissed and opened the door for myself."So you can mock me later by saying I don't have arms? I don't want that," I said, still trying to tease him at the same time.In truth, my eyes fell on the people that surrounded us, I mostly didn't want them to see Jameson hold out the door for me and start asking me millions of questions."Hey, I wouldn't say that!" Jameson said but I marrowed my eyes and quickly walked passed him, still giving

Avery's pov "Nothing, I'm fine," I lied.Because of what she has said and also because of what Jameson had saud in the car, it started to make me reflect on all my actions."Hmm, are you sure?" Amelia asked."Well, I think I just need some sleep and nothing more," I responded nonchalantly."Okay," Amelia said curtly. After I moved my clothes inti the wardrobe and arranged my things, I fell to the bed, feeling completely weak. After closing my eyes, I fell asleep immediately only to wake up to see that it was evening. My eyes remained close until my phone began to ring. I had no plan whatsoever to get to my feet. In fact, I enjoyed the solace that I had attained from the sleep."Won't you check your phone? It's been beeping for hours now," Amelia's voice fell into my ear.I got to my feet, deciding to go and check it out.Stretching my hands, I sluggishly got to my feet before walking towards the couch where I had tossed my phone."Jameson," I mentioned the name my eyes fell on, on my

Avery's POVBeep!I suddenly received another text, "I'm here now." I read the text, and just then, I heard a knock on my door. I quickly turned to Amelia, knowing exactly who was standing outside the door."Why do you look excited? You clearly told me that you're not even interested in this, and I shouldn't call this a date, right?" Amelia said, intentionally wanting to pick on me."What? You're lying, I don't look excited," I said before walking away from her."If you say so," she responded."Just have fun," she added, waving to signal that it was time for me to go and answer the knock on the door.I didn't know why I was nervous. For one, I didn't think that I would be flattered by anything that Jameson showed me.I'm sure this is the Moon Goddess trying to play with me because, hell! I don't like him!I opened the door and wasn't surprised to see him. I flashed a smile at him, and he stretched his hand forward, taking my hand."I'm glad you didn't bail out at the last minute. Whe

Avery's POVWe got to the restaurant—it was Reflex, one of the best spots around the school.Jameson pulled out a chair for me to sit. "You look extraordinarily beautiful today, you know that, right?" he said."So you mean to say that I don't look beautiful every time?" I asked."Well, I don't always look at you," he lied.I laughed and was about to speak, but he raised a finger, signaling that I shouldn't say anything."I know what you want to say! You want to say that I'm lying, right? Maybe you caught me a few times, but I only stare at beautiful people."I didn’t know why I blushed, but I immediately felt embarrassed. I didn’t want him to see me reacting to his words. The waiter came and took our orders. For some time, we made light conversation, and Jameson didn’t really seem so bad to talk to. He had a playful aura that was... charming.Who would have thought that I would sit with Jameson Alexandro for dinner?I could even bet my life that a day like this wouldn’t come."So tell

Avery's POV"You know what I think? We should end the discussion about Flair and mate stuff. I liked when the conversation was light," I said when he didn't respond after asking what's wrong."Yeah, you're right." He immediately gestured for the waiter to walk over where we sat."What's our bill?" he asked. The waiter gave him the bill, and Jameson paid for the food before saying, "Do you want to head somewhere? Probably somewhere quiet," he said.I agreed by nodding my head.He stood from the chair and took my hand before heading out of the restaurant."Where are we going?"Is it far?" I asked. I was literally trying to meet up with his pace."It's just a few blocks away, just trust me," he said.We finally got to a pub, and he paid the man in charge to let us in."Wait a minute, you said that we were going somewhere quiet, what happened?" I asked."Trust me, will you?" he asked."Okay," I responded."Wait here for me," he said, but I shook my head, refusing to stay there and wait fo

Avery's POV He took my hand, noticing that I couldn't match up with his pace.He stopped for a second and picked me up from the ground, running towards the direction of the sea."Ohh... Jameson. Stop it already," I said, giggling and laughing at the same time."Stop what? I want to carry you, Avery. Will you refuse the alpha of that?" Jameson asked, and I narrowed my eyes. After a lot of protesting, he dropped me down. I bit my lips and straightened my dress."Thank you!" I said with an accent.I stood there and watched the sea waves; I was mesmerized. I couldn't stop laughing and grinning at the same time."What's so funny that you can't stop laughing about?" Jameson asked."You asked earlier if I'll refuse the Alpha of carrying me." I paused and laughed."And? What's so funny in that?" He inquired."You're not yet the Alpha of the park yet; you should wait for your time before you start bragging with the title," I warned, causing Jameson to burst into laughter."You really didn't n

Avery's POV "Oh my freaking God. Can't you get it? Nothing happened, and nothing will happen. If you think that Jameson and I could ever be something, then I'll advise that you should think again!" I said, already pissed, but unfortunately, Amelia didn't care."I know that you're keeping something from me, but let's just see how long you would be able to keep it from me," she said, causing me to arch my brows.I just rolled my eyes, deciding not to pay any heed to what she said."You think I'll lie to you? It's the simple truth," Amelia added."I don't care. Right now, I'm hungry," I said, placing my hand on my stomach."Okay then, get dressed; let's go and get food at Reflex," Amelia said, causing me to smile. This was the only good thing that Amelia has said since we woke up."Thank goodness. You're finally saying something," I muttered.I quickly put something on because after having my bath last night, I just wore my undies, and that was all. Now, after putting on my dress, I said

Avery’s POVThe weight of Dimitri’s words sat heavy in the room even after he left. Noah had escorted him out, scanning the woods as if expecting Lisa’s mercenaries to materialize out of thin air. When he returned, his face was set like stone, his jaw tight.“Noah,” I started, unsure of what to even say. “Do you really think Lisa will find us here?”He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he placed his gun on the table and ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. “I don’t know, Avery. But we can’t take any chances.”I hated this feeling—the constant fear, the anticipation of the worst. It felt like Lisa’s shadow was looming over us, always one step closer no matter what we did.“We need to leave, don’t we?” I asked softly.Noah sighed and leaned against the table. “Yes. Dimitri’s warning wasn’t for nothing. If Lisa has people sniffing around, it’s only a matter of time before someone points her in our direction. We’ll pack up and move at dawn.”I nodded, even though my ches

Noah’s POVI woke up to the sound of Avery pacing. Her steps were light but restless, echoing faintly in the quiet cabin. I opened my eyes and glanced at the clock on the wall—it was just past 4 a.m. The sky outside was still cloaked in darkness, but the faintest traces of dawn were beginning to bleed into the horizon.“Avery,” I said, my voice groggy. She stopped in her tracks and turned toward me, her face illuminated by the soft glow of the wood-burning stove.“Did I wake you?” she asked, guilt written all over her expression.“No,” I lied, sitting up and running a hand through my hair. “What’s wrong?”She hesitated, hugging her arms to her chest. “I couldn’t sleep. I keep thinking… what if we’re wasting time sitting here? What if Lisa’s already moving against us?”I stood and crossed the room to her, placing a steady hand on her shoulder. “We’re not wasting time. We’re regrouping, preparing. If we rush in without a plan, we’ll be playing right into her hands.”Avery nodded, but I

Avery’s POVIn the morning when the sun filtered in through the thick curtains and lit up small room with soft golden light. Sweet but the heat in my palms distracted me from the never ending cycle on thoughts busy inside my brain.Noah was by the window looking for movement in the treeline, he hadn't said much since we got here last night but the mere fact that he was there put me a little more at ease even as the edge of sanity started to get gnawed open.“Trouble?” I sounded, my voice piercing what little silence there was.“Nope – but again, not in the morning. Still it does not stop it from arriving.I swallowed hard and looked at the opaque in my mug “Do you think they are already hunting her?”“Never did,” Noah said eventually turning to me. But his eyes were so very tired “Lisa does not hang up.“And what does she want?” I pressed, this time confident with my guess. You are,” Noah said bluntly. Those words made a deep fog descend over me. Noah’s POVFinally, “We need a plan” Avery said her voice even but firm.“I do,” I said, white knuckling the steering wheel. “First we shall wait for Dimitri to tell us the data has been disseminated. After that we will be set in reality and you can start timing it. Until then, you continue to blend in.“And then? ” she prompt, moving over to me. They were wide, full of fear and bravery.‘After?’ I exhaled slowly “Then we protect you in the endHer eyes browed thinned. “Ok, you too? Can you not just play the god for me Noah? Lisa will hunt us both.“You think she targets you first,” I purred bluntly, pointing at her. You are number 1 She WILL try to hurt you for my sake. My focus is to prevent that. She turned away, mouth pursed to a thin line. “I hate this,” she stated, almost to herself. She hated being this way.“Not helpless, you’re not,” I stated. Avery's POVMorning sunlight filtered into the room through these blinds, creating gold streaks on the walls. I momentarily lost myself for a second. And I virtually recollected the jungle, the terror, the perpetual edict of danger. But then the full strength of it hit, crashing me like a boulder in choppy waters.Noah had already rolled out of bed, laptop on the small kitchen table. He was intently focused, his hands darting across the keyboard. He didn't see me yet, and I hesitated to look at him.“Morning,” I whispered through the clumps. He raised his head, startled, gave me a quick smile. Morning?I shrugged. “Pardon, I was as capable as one might assume for my circumstances. He nodded, got the hang of it. “Well, I have been thinking about our choices,” he said, pointing at the laptop. On the information from that USB drive — not a whole lot, but enough to turn the situation on it’s head. If we could just get it to the right people then maybe this could be enough to stop her.“ B

Noah's POVAs I drove from the warehouse, I glanced back in the rear-view, expecting to see one of Lisa's henchmen hot on our tail. The car was so tense you could practically coat it with black oil and Avery sat in silence looking at the window blankly. Her hands were clutched in her lap as I could tell that the whites of each were white-knuckling.“I feel like I’m losing it,” I finally told her, breaking the silenceShe blinked like coming out of a daze. “I don’t know,” she said. Well, it's like… “ALL OF THIS. I can't DO this. This week is ours to turn the other cheek.Avery turned back to me only to look absolutely skeptical. But what if it isn’t nearly enough?
