CHAPTER THREE
As Annabelle's words broke the tension, I breathed out the breath I never knew I was holding onto. My lungs felt like they were burning, and my chest was tight. I tried to steady myself, but my legs felt like jelly, and I slipped down the wall, my back sliding against the cold surface. I sat there, trying to catch my breath, my mind racing with thoughts. What just happened? Why did Mr Orion's proximity affect me like that? And what did he mean by "deal with me later"? My breath came in short gasps, and I tried to calm myself down, telling myself it was just a moment of weakness. But deep down, I knew it was more than that. Mr Orion had gotten under my skin, and I didn't know how to shake him off. As I sat there, trying to compose myself, I couldn't help but wonder what other surprises lay in store for me in this mansion with Mr Orion. I slowly stood up from the ground, my legs still shaky from the encounter with Mr Orion. I made my way to the kitchen, trying to distract myself from the turmoil in my mind. As I began to clean up the kitchen and prepare breakfast, I heard Mr Orion's cold tone echoing from the hallway. "Anabelle, go home. The driver will drop you off," he said, his voice devoid of any warmth. "But, Orion, I'm your mate," Anabelle protested, her voice laced with hurt. "Why are you behaving so coldly with me? Is it because of the maid? Do you have feelings for her already?" I froze, my heart sinking at Anabelle's words. I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt, knowing that I had somehow caused tension between them. Mr Orion's response was icy. "Anabelle, don't be ridiculous. I don't have feelings for anyone. Least of all, the maid." Annabelle's sobs echoed through the hallway, and I could sense her distress. Lady Evelyn, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, her voice calm but firm. "Anabelle, dear, it's time to go. You're causing a scene." But Anabelle was having none of it. "You're always on his side, aren't you? You never defend me! I hate this mansion, and I hate all of you!" With that, Anabelle stormed out of the mansion, slamming the door behind her with such force that the foundations of the mansion shook. I felt the tremors beneath my feet, and my heart went out to Anabelle, despite everything. As the silence settled, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Would Mr Orion's behavior towards me change now that Anabelle was gone? And what did Lady Evelyn know that I didn't? I stood in the kitchen, still reeling from the drama that had just unfolded. But what happened next left me utterly shocked. Mr Orion, the same man who had just been so cold and cruel to almost everyone around him, was now embracing lady Evelyn with a warm smile. "Hey, Mom, it's great to see you," he said, exchanging pleasantries like nothing had just happened. Lady Evelyn, equally calm, replied, "Ory, dear, it's only been a month. I'm surprised you missed me." Mr Orion chuckled and threw a joke, "A month is enough time to get laid, don't you think?" Lady Evelyn playfully rolled her eyes and said with a sly grin, "Someone definitely got laid," making them both laugh. I was taken aback, feeling guilty for seeing Mr Orion as a heartless and cruel person just moments before. The smile that crossed his face as he looked at his stepmother made him more adorable, adding to his dangerous aura. I couldn't help but wonder what other layers there were to this complex man. As quickly as it had begun, the warm exchange between Mr Orion and his stepmother ended. His demeanor shifted immediately, and he composed himself, his expression turning cold and polite. "Mother, why are you here to see me?" he asked, his voice devoid of any warmth, a stark contrast to the playful tone just moments before. His stepmother's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. "I came to discuss some business with you, Ory. Nothing too pressing, but it requires your attention." Mr Orion's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze piercing as he studied his stepmother. "I see. Well, let's get it over with then." Mr Orion's stepmother began, her voice measured and deliberate. "Ory, dear, how is your relationship with your father...I mean, Mr. Draven?" Mr Orion's expression turned icy, his eyes flashing with a hint of anger. "He's not my father, Mother. And our relationship is non-existent, just the way I prefer it." His stepmother nodded sympathetically, her tone convincing. "I know you two haven't seen eye-to-eye in a while, but I truly believe you should try to forgive him, Ory. He's only doing what he thinks is best for you." Mr Orion snorted, his skepticism evident. "Best for me? You mean like trying to control my every move and dictate my life?" His stepmother's expression remained calm, her voice soothing. "Orion, your father loves you and wants what's best for you. And what's best for you is to find your mate. You know, as the soon-to-be Alpha werewolf of our pack, it's crucial you present your mate and mark her to confirm your ability to rule the pack successfully." Mr Orion's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched, and I could sense the tension building within him. His stepmother continued, her voice persuasive. "Orion, you could make Annabelle your mate. She's a suitable choice, and as a member of the beta family, she's not causing any issues. It's a logical choice, dear." But Mr Orion's response was immediate and firm. "Enough of this, Mother!" The room fell silent, and I could sense the tension crackling in the air. But then, surprisingly, Mr Orion's expression soon changed Immediately taking charge of his emotions.CHAPTER FOUR He asked in a measured tone, "How is Arabella doing? How's she preparing for the next moon ball? I hope she's finding suitable prospects for a mate." His stepmother's face softened, a hint of an understanding smile playing on her lips. "Ah, Arabella's doing well, Orion. She's excited for the moon ball and hopes to find her mate there. She's been practicing her courting rituals and is confident she'll make a good impression." Mr Orion's gaze seemed distant, his thoughts elsewhere, but his tone remained polite and interested. "I'm glad to hear that. Please give her my best wishes and support. I hope she finds a suitable mate." Just as the tension began to dissipate, Mr Orion's phone rang, shattering the brief silence. His gaze darkened as he glanced at the screen, his expression unyielding. "Beta Jay," he answered, his voice firm but controlled. As he listened to the caller, his eyes seemed to gaze into space, his expression unreadable. He responded with a simple "hmm"
CHAPTER FIVE I tried to stand up, to leave and process what was happening, but Mr Orion's stepmother's words stopped me in my tracks. "Selene, your birthmark...it's a sign of your destiny. It's only given to the children of an Alpha werewolf bloodline." I turned back to her, my eyes wide with confusion. "What do you mean? I'm human. I don't have any werewolf blood." She smiled again, her eyes glinting with a knowing light. "Ah, but that's where you're wrong, Selene. You see, your birthmark...it's a mark of greatness. A sign that you're meant for something more." I shook my head, feeling like I was trapped in a dream. "I don't understand. What do you mean?" Mr Orion's stepmother leaned in, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "You'll see, Selene. You'll see what you're truly capable of. And when you do...you'll join us, as one of our own." I felt a shiver run down my spine as she straightened up, her eyes never leaving mine. What did she mean? What was I capable of
CHAPTER SIXMr OrionSelene stood before me, her eyes hesitant. 'Mr. Orion, I need to ask for a favor,' she said, her voice professional. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. 'Oh? And what might that be, Selene?''I need to take the evening off tomorrow. I have a personal appointment I can't miss," She explained her request, sounding neutral, but I sensed a hint of nervousness. I leaned back in my chair, my eyes narrowing. 'An appointment, you say? With whom?'Her hesitation was palpable, and I knew she was hiding something. 'Just some friends. We're meeting for drinks,' she replied, her voice laced with evasiveness.I leaned forward, my eyes locking onto hers. 'And can't this appointment be rescheduled? I have a lot of work for you to do, Selene.' I could see the frustration in her eyes, but I didn't relent.Wanting to push her beyond limits,I approached her and I could see the fear and anticipation dancing in her eyes. She was like a wild animal, unsure of whether to flee or surrender.
CHAPTER SEVEN.But then, she pulled away, her eyes still gleaming with desire, yet she tried suppressing it ''You called me, sir.'' She said out of the blues. It was like a slap in the face, a reminder of our stations. I felt a surge of anger flow through me and my cold, domineering self taking over.''You'll clean every part of this mansion,'' I growled, my voice sounded very harsh. ''And you won't be going anywhere tomorrow evening.''"But, sir, I was supposed to perform my duties and leave as we initially agreed." She protested, but I cut her off, sounding firm. ''No, Selene. You'll do as I say.'' I felt a surge of satisfaction as Selene's eyes dropped, her shoulders slumping in defeat."Yes, Sir."The fire in her eyes was extinguished, and replaced by a meek submission. I felt a pang of guilt, but I pushed it aside, gaining back my control. As I stood there, gazing at Selene, I felt this strong connection that I had never felt with anyone before, this feeling was supposed to be
CHAPTER EIGHTI cried out, my voice shaking, "Mom! No, please don't leave me!", I shook her vigorously, in an attempt to see her open her eyes and shout "surprise!" , or "it's a prank"But it was too late, a surge of power escaped her body, I knew she was gone, and I was left with the pain of that memory.Even now, the memory brought tears to my eyes, a memory that was like a punch to the gut, leaving me breathless and sad. My Aura began to fluctuate wildly, becoming dangerous and unpredictable. I could feel it affecting the air around me, making the plants wither and the lights flicker."No... no... no..." I whispered, trying to push the memory away. But it was too late. The pain and grief had already consumed me, I felt like a murderer, if only I had a wolf, if only i wasn't incompetent.Just as I was drowning in my sorrow, my phone rang, shrill and insistent. I groaned, feeling the flashback recede like a tide pulling back from the shore. I hesitated for a moment, then picked up
CHAPTER NINEJay trembled, taking a step back. "I-I'll take you to her, Alpha. Please, follow me."I strode behind Jay, my anger building with each step. How dare she try to escape? Didn't she know the danger that lurked outside these walls? Didn't she know I was the only one who could protect her?We reached the east wing, and Jay led me to a room guarded by two burly men. "She's in there, Alpha," Jay whispered, cowering.I pushed open the door, my eyes scanning the room until they landed on Selene. She sat in a corner, her eyes flashing with defiance. I could feel my anger boiling over, but I knew I had to keep it in check. For now."What were you thinking, trying to escape?" I demanded, my eyes blazing with anger.Selene's response was immediate and rude sounding scornful. "I was trying to get away from your prison, Mr Orion!"But she bit her tongue, her eyes widening in fear, as if realizing her mistake.I took a step closer, my voice low and menacing. "Do you have any idea how d
CHAPTER TENSeleneI was locked in the room, feeling trapped and helpless. Beta Jay had looked at me with pity in his eyes, but he couldn't bring himself to disobey the Alpha's orders. "I'm sorry, Selene," he had said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I can't be disloyal to Orion, no matter what I think is right."And with that, he had left me alone in the room locked up, leaving me to my tears. I cried until I felt weak and exhausted, my eyes red and puffy, my hair a tangled mess of golden locks that cascaded down my back like a river of sunset hues. My birthmark on my hand, seemed to throb with a dull ache, as it reminded me of the secrets that I was yet to unravel. I felt stupid for thinking that asking Mr Orion's permission had been the right thing to do. Stupid for thinking that he would ever let me go. Stupid for thinking that I had any control over my own life.As the tears streamed down my face, I couldn't help but wonder what must have made Mr Orion act out of the blues
CHAPTER ELEVENMr Orion's eyes spilled over, tears streaming down his face."The rogue, it tore her apart, broke her. She was bleeding, Selene. Bleeding so badly. And I... I was too scared, too weak and my wolf..... I couldn't even save her."Mr Orion's voice cracked as he continued, "She died right in my hands, Selene. I felt her life force slipping away, a surge of power leaving her body as she took her last breath. I was too young to understand what was happening, but I knew it was the end. I felt it, the moment her soul left her body."He paused, his eyes frozen on a distant memory, his voice was barely audible, and his body was shaking with sobs."I've lived with that guilt ever since, Selene. The guilt of not being able to save my mother. And I won't let it happen again. I won't lose you too." "I was just a child. My mother, she... she was taken from me. Killed by the same creatures that I'm trying to protect you from."He paused, his eyes distant, lost in the past. I could see
