The rest of the journey was quiet, with only the sound of the engine breaking the silence. I gazed out the window, lost in thought, until suddenly, my aunt's eyes flicked to the rearview mirror.

"What's wrong?" I asked, but before she could respond, she floored it, speeding up and taking me by surprise.

"Aunt Claire, slow down!" I cried, but she just muttered under her breath, "You sons of bitches."

She swerved into another lane, and I held on tight as we lost the car that was trailing us.

My aunt took a dark route, and I looked over at her in concern. "Where are we?" I asked.

"I've been here for seventeen years," she replied. "I know my way around."

As we drove, I saw facilities and buildings that seemed to stretch on forever. "Wow, what is all of this?" I asked.

"It's the human government facility," my aunt said. "And it's attached to your life, Selene."

I frowned, confused. "How?"

But before she could answer, my aunt announced, "We're here."
