Grace Alder pov. 

"Good morning Charles, " I said to Charles who was work as a security guard at the front gate. 

" Good morning Grace. " He replied. Moving further I met Sia the receptionist. "Hey Sie. How are you doing?" 

" Hey, I great. How's your weekend? " She asked with a sweet smile. " Boring I miss work. I gotta go bye." I  replied and rushed toward the lift area. 

I do miss work, well that's exactly what happens when you live alone with no friends around. 

I moved to New York a few months ago to find a job. And got one here in New York's biggest Architecture company. Lucky right? I got the job as soon as I moved here, I guess New York is lucky for me. Job at Kingsley Architectural and Design is a big dream for anyone, and I have been working here for 2 months now as an interior designer. 

" Hey Grace, Jacob is calling for you. " One of my colleagues said. Jacob is our department head and a very sweet person. " Okay," I replied and droop my bag on my table, and left for his office. 

" Hey, can I came in?" I asked pecking through the door. " Grace, yes come in. " 

"Good morning, Jacob you called?" 

" Yes, actually I have to give you the news that you won't be working here anymore." 

WHAT THE...!?

" WHAT? BUT WHY? Did I do something wrong? why are firing me?" 

"Wait, Grace let me finish. " What's there to finish, you already finish my dreams here. 

" I said you won't be working here means, you won't be working in this department. Our CEO has fired his assistant this morning and he needs an assistant urgently. " 

"Okay? " I waited for him to drop the bomb. 

" And I recommended your name to him and he accepted. " 

"Why me? I'm a designer not a secretary who makes calls and stuff. I don't know anything about their work. "

" Relax it's not a big deal for you and I believe you. You're first here to make progress this fast. You can handle it and it's only for few weeks, once he found another assistant you can continue back again. " I bite my lips in annoyance. 

Few weeks. It's only for few weeks Grace come on. 

" Please Grace for me. It will help us all to maintain our image in front of the CEO. " 

Aghhh... 

" Fine. " I grumbled. 

" Yes..! Thank you, Grace. You can start now. " He said hugging me. 

Wait. Is he said start now? 

" Wait, how can  I start now? I have to take care of my pending work and stuff an-"

" That I can handle. You just go to CEO's office. " He said pushing me out of his office. 

I grabbed my stuff and walked towards the lift. 

Reaching the top floor, I exit the lift and immediately saw the reception in front. 

" Hey, I'm Grace. Jacob sends me, I have shifted here as Mr. Kingsley's assistant. " I finished introducing myself. 

" Oh yes, he told me. Turn left then straight, that's Mr. Kingsley's office you can see him there. " 

" Thank you. " I murmured and headed toward Mr. Kingsley's cabin. 

As soon I turned left I saw a big door a few steps away from me. My hands suddenly turned sweaty. I rubbed my hands on my sides and collecting a little courage I took a step. Taking a deep breath I knocked on the door two times. Knowing that Mr. Kingsley is behind this door is not helping the situation. I have only heard about him in the news and magazines but never really saw him. "Come in. " The voice said. 

I entered and met with the mesmerizing view of New York City. The office was massive and very beautifully decorated. It looks simple yet elegant, perfect for the CEO's image. 

I was lost in the view that I forgot where I am. I turned to look at Mr. Kingsley but his back was in front of me. 

"I'm Grace Jac- I mean Mr. filler sends me. I -" stopped talking when he turned to face me. 

Looking at him I forgot my surrounding. New York's view is nothing in front of him. He didn't even look at me and yet I felt like I have been under some possession. I watched his broad muscular chest moved up and down with his breathing. His hair was nicely done and few strands were falling on his forehead. His jaw is so sharp and perfect. I can tell he's 6 feet or something tall even though he was sited, his height can't be hidden. 

Everything moved in slow motion when he moved to face me and his eyes met with mine. Damn those eyes. He has the most beautiful pair of grayish-black eyes. His stares were deep and alluring, making me weak under his sight. 

"Ms. Alder..!?" He called me. 

"Uhm yeah, that's me. Sorry, I was lost. " I mentally slapped myself for behaving like a teenage fangirl on a very first meeting. I hurriedly pulled myself together and got my attention back to what he was saying. 

" That I can see but I don't have time for you to be lost in dreams when you should be working. " 

" Sorry, Mr. Kingslay. " I apologised again. 

He signed before opening his mouth to say. " There are rules for everyone who works on this floor. The first is do not to make noise, there are only a few people who work on this floor and only a few have access to come here. I hate mistakes and imperfections. I want my coffee and schedule on my table before I arrive. And most important there are only a few people who can enter this office without my permission and that is Me, Mrs. Miller the receptionist and You. I'm telling you this in advance, so if you tried to miss use your card to enter with wrong intentions, you will be facing the consequence after that. You can go now Kate will show you, your cabin and work. " 

....What was that? It was like some is giving me instructions to go on a military mission. I was blinked a few times. 

" You want something to ask?" 

I shook my head and left his office. 

" Mrs. Miller, can you show me my cabin and things I have to do?" I asked politely.  

"Of course dear and you can call me Kate. " 

" Thank you. " I said and followed her like a lost puppy. 

My office was not as big as Mr. Kingsley, it was quite nice and comfortable. Kate told me everything about Mr... Kingsley what he likes, what doesn't. It going to be difficult for me to work with him. Especially after developing a crush on him, but that's not something I can't handle. 

I started my work and it took me a whole day to understand the pending work, left by his previous assistant. I found it strange that Mr. Kingsley hasn't called for the whole day. After finishing my work I left my office. 

" Kate is Mr. Kingsley is in his office?" I asked. 

" No dear he left for the meeting this evening and ordered you to leave after completing the file. " What type of an assistant I'm when  I didn't even know about his meetings. 

" Don't worry Grace you will learn to cope with the situation soon. Now if you're done with the file you can leave it in the boss's cabin. " I nodded and went to his cabin. 

I tried to open the door but it was locked. Now how I'm supposed to drop the file on his table?

" Kate the door is locked what should I do?" 

" You can open it with your id." 

"Oh yes he told me sorry I forgot. " 

Getting back to his office I showed my id to the detector and the next I heard is a click sound. Woah is that how it works that's amazing. Opening the door I placed the file on his table and locked the door back again. 

Grabbing my bag from my cabin I finally left the building for my apartment. 

I live alone in New York, I used to live with my aunt when I was in Virginia. And no I'm not an orphan, my parents just don't live with me or each other. They divorced when I was 12 and send me to Aunt Olivia and I've been leaving with her since then. 

I had my dinner and did my before-bed rituals, applied some cream on my body, and went to bed.
