Two years later
SARAH “Is everything ready? Where is Nelly?” Aunt Olivia asked, wearing her earrings with a smile beaming on her face. I was so happy, I ensured everything was in place with the help of my employees. There was a lot to be grateful for, my career and my dear son, Nelly. “Everything is in place Aunt, and Nelly is fine,” I replied excitedly as I patted my cheeks. Aunt Olivia and I were discussing about ST Atelier event when my phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Josh and I answered quickly. “I’ve sent more invitations to some top-tier fashion brands. They will be present at your event tomorrow. I am sure all of them will be impressed and would want to partner with you. I am proud of you!” Josh's happy voice came from the other end of the call. “Oh mine, I don’t know how to appreciate you. You’ve proven to be a true friend all these years. Words are not enough to express my appreciation.” I uttered with all humility. “You’ve proven to be exceptional in your field and the least I can do is tell others about you. Cheers to more wins.” He praised me and I rolled my eyes as though he could see me. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That's all I have to say, Josh.” Accomplishing my dreams wouldn’t have been easy if not for Aunt Olivia and Josh. Josh was also into the fashion industry and we worked on the first project I got after my marriage with Caleb ended. He taught me how to use digital software to make my designs exquisite and unique. I established my brand; ST Atelier and I’ve gotten numerous clients and of course more profits. The event that will be happening the next day is a fashion hunt show that I will use to exhibit my latest collection and launch it. After the call, I picked up my phone to watch some reels on TIKTOK. I needed to have some time off work and have fun. The first video that welcomed me was that of Caleb and Laura in a romantic position. I felt my stomach twist like a knot. It’s been a long time yet their betrayal still pierced my heart. I quickly turned my data off, held my phone tightly, and hissed. “Why the sudden change in mood?” Aunt Olivia asked with confusion visible in her eyes as I glanced at her. I can’t let the video get to me. How will I tell Aunt Olivia the reason behind my sudden change in mood? “It is nothing. I just remembered I had a design to finish up by the end of today.” I uttered and made my way to Nelly’s room. Nelly was sleeping peacefully in his crib and my heart couldn’t help but tinged with joy. ‘Caleb broke my heart but Nelly has amended it to a large extent.’ I muttered to myself, walking out of the room slowly so as not to wake him up. I had no business with my ex-husband, everything now revolves around me, Nelly, and my career. “Sarah, we have to be at the office now.” Aunt Olivia’s voice filled the air. I returned downstairs and I could read the indifferent look she wore. She wanted to ask if everything was okay, she wanted to know if I told her the truth earlier or if I was hiding something from her. I waved it off and led the way out of the house. As I drove us to Aunt Olivia’s company, the air felt tense than ever and I couldn’t explain why. When we arrived, I heard the numerous greetings ringing from every side but I remained quiet while Aunt Olivia responded. Aunt Olivia’s secretary approached us in a hurry. “Good morning ma, the meeting with Haley Ventures began a few minutes ago and the representatives are waiting in the conference room.” Aunt Olivia gave a nod. “Yeah right, I will be there now.” I was about to tell Aunt Olivia that I would be waiting at her office when she said. “Sarah, come with me. I know you have your business but there is no crime in knowing my works too.” I smiled, “Fine.” It was like she read my mind. I wondered how this woman knew me to the point of reading my thoughts. As we stepped into the conference room, memories of my dark past hit me. I coughed as I patted my chest. I tried to capture the face of the young man among six middle-aged people. “Caleb Haley,” I whispered. “What deal is he here for?” My words were audible to Aunt Olivia and she replied. “I have no idea. I never knew it was a meeting with him. Just remain calm.” A low exhale escaped my lips. I avoided his gaze and sat beside my aunt. I must say his aura has changed, our paths have not crossed since the divorce papers saga but he didn’t look bad. He must have accomplished a lot over the years. Caleb looked at me. “Hi, Sarah.” I didn’t bother replying as I extended my greeting to everyone. “Good day everyone.” I could feel Caleb’s eyes on me as my aunt anchored the meeting. The distance did a lot of harm. The man I once shared my heart with is now a total stranger to me. No connection! No spark! Nothing at all! “I am impressed with your proposals on this project Aunt Olivia. I must confess a lot has changed. I never knew you were the director of this firm. Good job!” Caleb uttered respectfully, but his eyes were fixed on me. “Thank you,” Aunt Olivia said with a smile. Thirty minutes later, the meeting was over. I walked closely behind Aunt Olivia when a male voice rang out. “Why are you ignoring your husband, Sarah?” The word husband irritated me, I shook my head and was about to take a step out when Aunt Olivia whispered. “Face him, free your heart.” Memories of my painful past engulfed my heart. It is best I face him so I can have a free mind. I looked at Caleb. “You are not my husband. That bond was long broken.” I exhaled and added. “Caleb, I don’t want to ever have anything to do with you.” “Really? You look beautiful as always. I must say, I am happy to see you.” He said calmly. I hissed because I did not believe his words. He always knew the words to make one feel better but now it will not work. “Your happiness doesn’t matter to me, go tell that to your mistress. You sent me divorce papers without feeling guilty. We should have had a peaceful dialogue but no, you treated me like a trash. Henceforth, I don’t know you. You are in my past and long forgotten.” He snorted, his expression unreadable. “We will see about that. Your friend told me a lot about you. Why didn’t you tell me you were unable to get pregnant because you have no womb resulting from several abortions?” I frowned, “What?” “Why are you pretending?” I shook my head and said. “I don’t know what you are talking about. There is no point explaining anything to you now.” “You…” Before he could complete his statement, I announced. “I have better things to attend to.” “Aren’t you happy to see me? Don’t you miss me?” Caleb said in a sarcastic tone. I turned to the door and took a deep breath. I can’t let my emotions betray me before him. The Sarah he once knew is now renewed and transformed. “You have no idea of what I have become since you betrayed me. "CALEB “Since we returned to California, your attitude towards me changed. Yesterday, I didn’t even understand why you looked moody when you returned from the meeting. You refused to have your meal.” Laura stood akimbo throwing words at me. “Do you even think it is easy to cook?” “It is just some personal stuff, you don’t have to be worried,” I replied indifferently. “Can we have some fun together when you return from work?” She asked seductively and I wondered if everything revolves around sex. “Sorry, that won’t be possible. I have a lot to attend to. When I return home, I know I will be exhausted.” I said with a tightened face. “But you always create time for me. Caleb, what has changed? Please talk to me.” She asked with a pitiful tone, trying to make me feel bad. She continued, “Caleb, don’t treat me this way. Don’t you care about my feelings? We are together yet I miss you like we are living in different worlds.” She paused and added, “Hope it is not what I am thinking?” “
CALEBI decided to go with Silas to freshen up at his house and purchase a new outfit that I will use tonight. All this while, my phone rang. It was a call from Laura. I wasn’t in the mood to talk, I needed time to fix my mind. I assured myself that I was going to talk with Sarah but I couldn’t tell how easy or how soon it would be.After some minutes of being reluctant, I answered Laura’s call because Silas asked me to. “Why did you ignore my call? Why aren’t you home yet? Do you need a lecture on how to be a caring and loving husband? You are becoming unbearable.” Her fury rang out from the other end.I sighed and raced my hand through my hair. If only this lady knew the mess my heart is battling with, then the least she would do is to give me peace.“I don’t have time for this. If you can’t bear with it, please you can leave.” I replied confidently.“What? Caleb, what has come over you? We need to sort this out in person. When will you return home, I am waiting.” With the shock ev
SARAHST Atelier has gotten a lot of partnership deals and the latest designs were launched at values that I never had dreamt of.Everything went so well, interacting with dignitaries and some special guests made my day. I felt when I was married, I was living in the shadow of my dreams.Josh arrived a bit late because he went to welcome some guests for the event from the airport. The moment he briefed me about their arrival, I was excited to greet them.Having international brands at my event and having them partner with me made my joy immeasurable.Josh always went out of his comfort zone to help me out. All my achievements can’t be complete without mentioning himAfter the models had showcased the latest collection, there was a special seat allocated for them to sit at the event. However, I noticed that the moment Nelly got off the runway, he made his way out. I assumed he needed something and was out to look for his maid.Upon seeing his maid, I asked about Nelly but she claimed
CALEB“She has moved on.” With a low voice, I said to Silas when we got into the car.“Give her time, it is a lot for her to chew at the moment.” He replied. Tapping my shoulder, he added, “If she has found true happiness in another man then you have to let her go.”He continued. “I will take you home because I don’t want you to hit the car against the trunk of a tree.” The concern in his voice didn’t go unnoticed.I wasn’t in my right senses to do anything at the moment. Silas understands me a lot.“Does that kid look like me?” I asked with a furrowed brow.“Which kid?” He fixed his gaze on the steering, feigning ignorance.“There is something I want to find out,” I said grudgingly.“How is the kid supposed to look like you, are you his father?” He said sarcastically.“Okay, do you think the man who came to meet her while she was with us is better than me?” I asked.“The right person to answer that is Sarah,” Silas muttered.“Hmm,” I expressed, not satisfied with his response.Soon,
CALEBI can’t tell how many hours I stayed in the bathtub but when I opened my eyes, the day was so bright and the ray of the sun found its way into my room.I managed to remove my wet clothes and have a proper bath. It was Saturday, so I planned to remain indoors all through.Next, I wore a casual outfit and picked up my phone. I made my way to my study room whose door was linked to my room.Scrolling through my phone, I saw that I had missed five calls from Silas.I smiled and called him back.“Where the hell have you been?” He asked the moment he picked up the call.“Sleeping,” I uttered.“Wow, you must have been dreaming about Sarah which is why you woke up this late.” Silas teased.“Come off it, I need to rest. It is weekend by the way.” I said as I switched on my laptop.“Yeah, its weekend but your secretary had sent several reminders of the scheduled meeting with our new partner and you didn’t reply.” He paused. “It starts in twenty minutes.”After the call, I checked my email
SARAH I had a lot to do.After ST Atelier fashion event, I got lots of recommendations and business partners. It was difficult for me to ignore that I saw Caleb at my event and he interacted with my son. I expected him to bring up how our relationship crashed but he didn’t. Could it be he was pompous or he didn’t feel the need too.I called Josh and appreciated him for all he has done for me. He recommended me to Mr. Michael and I will be working with a team on a huge project. Michael attended ST Atelier event and was impressed by all the designs and latest collections. It was a massive deal. With that I mean a project with my pay running into six digits. I sat beside Aunt Olivia as we watched the television. With the way she glanced at me at intervals, I knew she had a lot to say. I remained quiet as I waited for her to speak.“What if Nelly starts asking about his father?” She asked calmly.“He won't,” I mumbled.“Are you sure?” She asked with a concerned look. “Didn’t you see the
CALEBI always deliver excellently in every areas of my business but I wasn’t sure of how Mr. Michael’s deal will turn out now that I am working with Sarah. However, I won’t let her have any effect on me. Mr. Michael sent me Sarah’s contact after the virtual meeting that we should discuss further on other arrangements. To my surprise, the number was the one I had on my phone years ago.Since the divorce saga, I have never called her but I didn’t delete the number. She maintained same mobile contact all these years! After hours of hesitation, I got my emotions together and dialed her number.“Hello, Sarah.” I said with no emotion evident in my voice.“Hi, who am I on to?” She sounded clueless from the other end.“It is Caleb Haley.” I replied with a deep tone.It meant she had deleted my contact ago. Another point to back up her words of not wanting to have anything to do with me again. Why was I so pained that she deleted my contact? She had move on but I will let this slide and fa
SARAH “Are you expecting a visitor?” I asked Aunt Olivia when the doorbell rang at seven in the evening.“Not at all. Answer the door and let’s know who is there.” She said and I stood up.I was so tired but I made my way to the door. Earlier, Nelly was so clingy and it took a lot of time before I got him to sleep.“Good, you were the one who answered the door.” A cold voice rang out which left me in shock. Upon opening the door, I saw Laura, my former best friend.I could hear Aunt Olivia asking who was at the door but I was short of words. After a few seconds, Aunt Olivia was also at the door.“Stupid girl, after all you’ve done. How dare you come to our house?” Aunt Olivia flared up.Laura was really stupid. After all she did, there was no iota of regret in her expression.“I am not here to make trouble. However, since my boyfriend, Caleb, and I returned to the country, he hasn’t been the same. That’s because of you.” She snorted.“Me? What do you mean?” I yelled.“Don’t play dumb
CALEBI got into my office and there was a lot to attend to on my desk. While I was battling with taking Sarah off my mind and which document to work on first, two men walked. It was Uriel and Silas. I was surprised to see Uriel, he had travel out for a course. With a bright smile, I said. “Hi, Uriel. Good to see you, have your seat.” I pointed to the seat in the opposite direction.“Yeah, man.” Uriel replied and sat down.Silas looked at me and shook his head.“Don't I deserve to have a seat too? I need to travel out too so you can miss me.” He tightened his face.“The last time I checked, you have your seat in my office before I even ask you too. You can stand for all I care.” I laughed.“Really! 1-0, you are winning. Expect my revenge.” Silas muttered and sat down.“What do you care for, Uriel?”I asked with a smile.“Nothing,” He mumbled.“That can't be. Allow Caleb spend money, he has enough. We'll all go out to have lunch, bills on Caleb.” Silas uttered as he ignored my gaze.I s
CALEB“Give me Sarah’s phone number.” Laura requested humbly and I couldn’t help but widen my eyes.I expected that it would take a while before she made the moves of settling her scores with Sarah but she was working towards it so fast. That must be because she doesn’t want to lose me but she will know better at the end of it all.“Alright,” I said and called the number out from my phone. With a bright smile, I returned to my room and got dressed for the day’s activities. I had a business seminar to attend. The ambiance of the venue was captivating and pleasant to the mind. I exchanged greetings with some familiar faces. The seminar started and soon the first phase ended. At that point, the lady who anchored the program announced.“Sarah Tonks will be our resource person for the next phase, she would be here anytime soon.” I was surprised and elated when I heard her name but what was more shocking was that she hadn’t arrived and all those present agreed to patiently wait.I was prou
CALEB I left Sarah's place angry yesterday. However, I am at fault for everything. If I had treated her better, Josh wouldn't have held a special place in her heart.I was happy when I received a call from Sarah but soon my expression turned cold after she told me Laura visited her house and Josh's house to threaten them. This explains why I didn't see Laura at home when I woke up.What sort of a childish act is this?! Can't she use that time and energy to build her career instead of going about threatening people because of a man.“Hi darling,” Laura uttered the moment she walked into the house. She looked so innocent but I wasn't going to fall for that.“Where are you coming from?” I asked coldly.“I went out to attend to something urgent.” She replied with a serious look.“Urgent indeed!” I yelled as I stamped my foot on the floor.“Is anything the problem?” She asked with fear evident in her tone.“Why did you visit Sarah and Josh? What prompted you to do that?” I asked, ensuring
SARAHI returned to the event venue with confused emotion.A part of my mind was worried about Josh while the other part was worried about Caleb. There was no room for me to even be worried about myself.I never invited Caleb for my event but on the other hand, I wished I could get hold of the person who went live at the venue and showed the whole world all that happened.I found it difficult to process Caleb’s last words before he left. “The divorce papers you signed weren't signed by me because I was away, so it wasn't filed. Meaning it was just a mere write up in black and white. Anyone who thinks you are my ex must be joking!”I assumed he just said it out of jealousy because of the way I was worried about Josh’s feelings. I didn’t believe his words.Soon the event ended. I sent Josh messages and called him severally but he didn’t respond to any. I felt bad that Josh who had been helping all these years is mad at me for a reason that I saw as nothing.I can’t let Caleb’s interfere
SARAHI couldn't believe Caleb went this far to punish Amelia for saying those words to me.I noticed the remorse on Amelia's face when she received a call confirming the order Caleb had passed concerning making her family go bankrupt. He fought on my behalf, he defended me. He couldn't bare to see anyone insult and humiliate me.I felt cherished and protected. I watched Amelia Klein climb up the stage, pick the microphone and apologized.“I am sorry, Sarah. All I said earlier were lies and just to pull attention to myself. Please don't ruin my family. I promise to filter my words and think deeply before spilling gibberish.” Amelia fell on her knees, with tears gushing out of her eyes. The guests present couldn't help but marvel at this. The proud and popular Amelia Klein was kneeling in public and seeking forgiveness from Sarah.I remained indifferent, Amelia was seeking forgiveness because she doesn't want her family to be ruined.“I don't need your apologies. Your words didn't get
SARAHHis eyes beamed with great delight. His gaze made me slightly uncomfortable as I smiled and looked at him. We haven’t been in touch for some days and I don’t remember telling him about my NGO.Could it be he has been tracking all my moves?Echoes of whispers filled the air. Quite a number of those present knew that I was once married to Caleb Haley. I am more surprised to see him than they are.All of a sudden, Amelia Klein, one of my classmate at college stood up, drawing the attention of everyone. Amelia was one of the big girls in school back then, all thanks to the wealth of her parent. She bullied and humiliated me always. I never knew she was around, maybe her aim was to see how awful the meeting will end. Thank God she was disappointed. She approached Caleb and smelled the flower he was holding. That act made Caleb tighten his face as he glanced at her with disgust.“Look who we have in our midst, the CEO of Haley corporation. He must be here because of his girlfriend, La
SARAHIt's been months of trying to set up my NGO which brings divorced and single ladies together.A lot of invitations and reminders have been sent to a lot of people and they cannot wait to attend the first meeting. There was a small space in my backyard so I used it to set up a venue. The event planner and interior designers did a fantastic job.I ensured small chops, juices and sweets will be available during the meeting.Everything was now in place and Aunt Olivia raised the point that the organisation should have a name.I've tried coming up with a beautiful name but I couldn't. After some minutes of silence, Aunt Olivia mentioned, forever young. The name of my NGO is, ‘Forever young.’“This is perfect. With this name, the women who will be members of this organization will know that they have their youthful strength always to achieve their dreams without age or their bitter experience being a barrier.” I said with a bright smile.Aunt Olivia has given me the support that I nee
LAURAMy discussion with Silas confirmed all my doubts to be true. He couldn't open up that Caleb was on the mission to win his ex-wife back.I was aware that Caleb and Sarah worked on Mr. Michael's project but decided to remain calm.Caleb's finance was also important to me.To destroy Sarah's effort, I employed the service of some goons to destroy all the fabrics she was supposed to deliver.I was delighted when they informed me that they carried out the tasks successfully leaving no traces.I threatened her via various means but she remained undaunted. She was more strong hearted than before. She can't have my man, she lost him to me already and can't have him back. I will do all it takes. I must do all it takes. To avoid Caleb from suspecting which would further abort my plans, I had to remain calm. I pretended like I was not threatened by Sarah's presence since we returned to California. The wings she thinks she now possess to soar high will I destroy without a rethink.I noticed
SILASI enjoyed every part of Mr. Michael’s event. However, I had lost track of where Caleb was. I knew we would meet again when the event was over.I exchanged pleasantries with some familiar faces and the event soon ended. I returned to the car to wait for Caleb but I couldn't have a glimpse of him.I wondered what he was up to. I recalled earlier that he quietly followed Sarah into the hall. I assumed he was trying to win his ex-wife back.I called Caleb's number, it rang but he didn't pick. Thank goodness I have the car keys, otherwise I would have waited till Caleb picked the call.As I was about to open the door of the car, I heard a familiar voice.“Hey, Silas. Where is Caleb? I have searched all over but I can't find him.”I turned to the direction the voice came and lo, I saw Laura. She approached me looking tired and sweating profusely. She was beautiful but not as Sarah, she wasn't my spec.“Shit,” I cursed before she got to me. This woman is just full of surprises. I scoff
