CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

I can not believe she thinks these tears of hers will change how I think about her. Exactly how stupid does she think I am? Is she trying to tell me that she has never seen these letters before? Letters that she replied to once.

I can even still remember the reply very vividly in my head. She told me she had moved on from a pauper like me and did not want anything to do with me anymore. She talked about how her father had been right about us and there was nothing that could ever happen between us.

Every word she wrote in that letter is still etched in my mind clearly even after I burnt the letter physically.

“I did not know.” she says, as she leans into my body with the papers still in her hands.

“Are you sure?” I reply.

Her small frame looks up at me and our eyes meet as I look down at her.

“If I had known I would have been there. I would have left everything in a heartbeat to be with you.”
