Adrian's POV

The house was quiet again, save for the faint hum of the air conditioning. Nora was fast asleep in her room, her tiny hands clutching the stuffed bunny she refused to part with. I lingered in her doorway for a moment, watching her chest rise and fall in the rhythm of deep sleep.

She reminded me of Sarah who was resilient, full of life, and always finding joy in the smallest things. It was one of the many things I admired about her. Sarah had brought light into my life in ways I hadn’t thought possible.

Seeing them together reminded me of the love only a mother could give. It made me miss my mum.

I closed Nora’s door softly and walked down the hallway toward the living room. Sarah was there, folding the throw blanket Nora had been using earlier. She looked up when she heard my footsteps, a small smile curving her lips.

“Thanks for carrying her,” she said, tucking the blanket neatly over the arm of the couch.

“No problem,” I replied, leaning against the wall. “She’s a great

Sarah's POV The rest of the day passed in a blur. By the time the sun began to set, we were all exhausted but content. Nora had been on cloud nine, recounting her favorite moments from our school visits, her enthusiasm contagious. After dinner, I watched from the kitchen as Adrian carried Nora to her room. She clung to him sleepily, her little head resting against his shoulder, her bunny tucked under one arm. It was such a simple sight, but it made my heart ache in ways I couldn’t explain. As I finished tidying up, I heard the soft hum of Adrian’s voice coming from Nora’s room. I paused in the hallway, leaning against the wall. He was tucking her in, and the tenderness in his tone made my chest tighten. He didn’t have to do any of this, but he did it anyway—without hesitation, without complaint.“Thank you for today, Uncle Adrian,” Nora murmured, her voice small and sleepy.“Anything for you, princess,” he replied, his voice warm and steady.I smiled, pressing a hand to my chest. She

Adrian's POV I didn't know when the words tumbled out of my mouth but they were the truth. Sarah's eyes widened, her ears reddening at the comment. “Thank you.” She mumbled, getting shy all of a sudden. “I should let you get dressed. I actually came by to inform you that the nanny is here.”“Okay, I'll be right down.” She said, already moving from where she stood earlier. “No please, take your time in getting ready.” told her, offering a small wave as I stepped out the door. I walked down the hallway, trying to push away the lingering image of Sarah standing there, holding her dress, her cheeks flushed. There was something about her shyness that caught me off guard. It wasn’t often I found myself struggling to keep my composure, but with Sarah, it seemed like a regular occurrence. When I reached the living room, Clara, the nanny, was already seated on the couch. She looked just as I remembered—her warm, kind face untouched by the years. She’d been there for me during some of the

Sarah's POV "Adrian,” she greeted, her tone dripping with faux warmth. “Sarah. How wonderful to see you both tonight.”“Anne,” Adrian replied curtly, not bothering to match her charade. “The event looks extravagant, as usual.”She ignored his jab, and instead fixed her gaze on me. She must have thought me an easy prey. “You look lovely, dear. That dress is quite understated. Refreshing, really, in a room full of over-the-top gowns.”I didn’t flinch at her comment but met her gaze with a defiant one. “Thank you, Anne. You’ve outdone yourself with the decor tonight.”Her fake smile faltered slightly, clearly not expecting me to match her energy. “Well, one must always make an impression, don’t you agree?”“Absolutely,” I replied smoothly, not knowing where my confidence was coming from. “Though I’ve always believed that substance outshines appearances.”I glanced at Adrian who watched the exchange quietly, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.Anne’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly

Adrian's POVAnne’s smile was perfectly practiced, but I saw the cracks beneath her polished facade. Sarah had just outmaneuvered her in front of her beloved audience, and I couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride. My wife—because that’s what she was now, in every way that mattered—had proven she was more than capable of holding her ground. But this wasn’t over.Anne was like a viper; she struck with precision and retreated only to wait for another opportune moment. The glint in her eyes as she watched us move through the crowd confirmed my suspicion.“She’s going to come at you harder now,” I murmured to Sarah, handing her a glass of champagne. She raised an eyebrow at me, her expression calm but with a hint of challenge. “Let her try. I can handle Anne.”I smirked, leaning closer so no one else could hear. “You handled her beautifully just now. She won’t forget it.”“Neither will I,” she replied, taking a sip of her champagne. No sooner had the conversations resumed in full swing di

Sarah’s POVAdrian closed the door behind him after assuring me he wouldn't stay too long. I ran my fingers along the embroidered armrest of the chair, trying to calm the unease swirling in my chest.I wandered toward the bookshelf. It was surprisingly sparse for someone like Adrian, who always seemed to have a sharp mind and a quick wit. Most of the books were classics, their spines worn and faded, with a few trophies and certificates scattered among them.A small, framed photo caught my eye. It was of a younger Adrian, probably in his early teens, sitting on a horse. His smile was wide and genuine, a stark contrast to the measured expressions he wore now.I brushed a finger over the glass, glancing at another one that had a woman who looked so much like Julian in it. The sound of footsteps outside the door made me jump. I turned, half expecting Anne or one of her allies to storm in, but it was just the echo of someone passing.I sighed and sank back into the chair, clutching the ed

Adrian's POV The rest of the ride passed in comfortable silence, the tension of the evening fading as we approached my duplex. The sight of home brought a sense of relief I hadn’t realized I needed. When we pulled into the driveway, I stepped out first, extending a hand to Sarah as she exited the car. Her hand in mine was soft and steady, a feeling I wasn't used to stirred in my chest.Inside, the warm glow of the living room lamp welcomed us. Clara sat on the couch, a book resting in her hands, while Nora was curled up beside her, fast asleep with her bunny tucked protectively under her arm.Clara looked up as we entered, her face lighting up with a kind smile. “You’re back. How was the evening?”“Eventful,” I said, a wry smile tugging at my lips. “Thank you for staying with Nora.”“It’s always a pleasure to help you, my dear boy,” Clara replied, setting her book aside carefully. “She’s such a sweetheart. Went to bed without any fuss.”Sarah smiled and moved to crouch beside Nora, b

Sarah's POVMonday mornings always brought a certain rhythm with Adrian preparing to go to work while Nora and I lazed around. Today, however, was different. It was Nora’s first day back at school after her surgery, and I couldn’t ignore the nervous flutter in my chest.Adrian had insisted on coming with us to ensure everything went smoothly. “It’s her first day back,” he had said, his tone leaving no room for argument. “I’ll drive.”The ride to the school was calm. Nora hummed softly in the back seat, clutching her bunny close, while Adrian’s steady presence behind the wheel was oddly comforting. When we arrived, the principal greeted us warmly, her eyes widening slightly when she spotted Adrian. His reputation clearly preceded him, and the staff seemed eager to impress him.Nora’s teacher, Mrs. Hughes, met us in the classroom. She was a gentle woman in her mid-40s, with kind eyes that immediately put me at ease. Adrian took the lead, explaining Nora’s health history with precision

Adrian's POV The sound of the front door clicking shut behind me was a familiar relief, marking the end of another long day. I stepped inside, shrugging off my suit jacket and loosening my tie. The house was quiet except for the low hum of Nora’s cartoons in the background. The faint scent of something cooking wafted from the kitchen, grounding me in a way I hadn’t anticipated.“Welcome back,” Sarah said, her voice warm as she stepped into view. She looked different, lighter somehow, though there was a trace of weariness in her eyes.I nodded, letting my gaze linger on her. “How was the day?”“Good,” she replied quickly, though the slight curve of her lips didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Nora was thrilled to be back at school.”I glanced over at Nora, sprawled on the couch with her bunny in one hand and a triumphant smile on her face. Relief settled over me. “That’s good to hear.”Sarah hesitated, her fingers brushing over the hem of her shirt. “Thank you for sending the driver. It was

Sarah’s POVThe empty space beside me was cool to the touch.I blinked my eyes open, still groggy from sleep, and turned my head toward the other side of the bed. Adrian wasn’t there. For a brief moment, unease crept in, but I pushed it aside. He must have gone to the company. The weight of the handover had been pressing on him, and though he hadn’t outright admitted it, I knew he had a decision to make—one that wasn’t easy for him.A soft sigh left my lips as I sat up, running a hand through my hair. I had wanted him to rest, to take a moment for himself, but I should have known he wouldn’t be able to stay still for long.I glanced at the time.Slipping out of bed, I grabbed my robe and padded toward the door. If Adrian had left early, he hadn’t told me, but I wasn’t going to dwell on it. I had my own responsibilities this morning—starting with getting Nora ready for school. It was something I hadn't done since I got into the accident a month ago. I walked across the hall to her roo

Adrian’s POVSarah’s warmth was still pressed against me, her steady heartbeat anchoring me in a way nothing else could. She shouldn’t have been out of bed.She shouldn’t have been worrying about me when she was still recovering. But she was.Because that was who Sarah was—someone who loved fiercely, someone who saw through the walls I built and refused to let me stand alone.I tightened my arms around her, breathing her in, letting the familiar scent of her calm the storm in my chest.“I mean it,” she murmured against my shirt. “You’re not alone in this.”I closed my eyes, exhaling slowly. I wanted to believe her.I wanted to believe that no matter what decision I made, I wouldn’t lose myself in the process. But the truth was, I didn’t know who I was without the fight.I had spent so many years defining myself by what I wasn’t—not my father, not his puppet, not the man everyone expected me to be. But if I stripped all of that away… what was left? And what if stepping into that role p

  • FAKE HUSBAND, REAL TWIN   Chapter 127

Sarah’s POVThe moment Adrian left the room, the silence pressed in on me like a heavy weight.I sank further into the pillows, staring at the closed door, my mind replaying our conversation. His father was dying. He wanted Adrian to take over the company. And Adrian didn’t know what to do.That alone was enough to tell me how deeply this was affecting him. Adrian always had an answer, always had a plan. But now, I saw the uncertainty in his eyes, the way his walls threatened to rise again.I hated it.I hated that his father still had this much control over him. I hated that even in the face of death, Richard Blackwood was pulling strings, ensuring Adrian was trapped in his web.I swallowed hard, shifting slightly in bed. Pain rippled through me, but I ignored it. I had gotten used to it by now.My thoughts drifted to Julian’s expression when he stepped into the room earlier. I hadn’t missed the tension in his posture, the way his eyes flickered to Adrian like he knew something I did

Adrian’s POVThe weight of the conversation with my father still sat heavy on my chest as I stepped into our bedroom. Seeing Sarah awake, her tired eyes watching me with concern, only made it worse. She didn’t need this. Not now. Not when she was still weak. But she deserved the truth. And so, I told her.The moment the words left my mouth—My father is dying. He wants me to take over the company—the room grew impossibly quiet.Sarah’s fingers curled around mine, grounding me. “What are you going to do?”The truth was, I didn’t know.My whole life, I had fought against Richard Blackwood’s control, trying to carve my own path and refusing to be a pawn in his empire. And now, with his mortality looming over him, he was trying to pull me back in.“I don’t know,” I admitted, the words foreign on my tongue. I always had a plan, always knew my next step. But this? This was uncharted territory.Sarah studied me for a long moment before speaking. “Did he say how long?”I exhaled sharply, dragg

I tried to shake it off, telling myself I was just exhausted, but something in my gut told me that whatever he was going to face wouldn’t be simple.I shifted against the pillows, trying to find a comfortable position, but my body protested every movement. My muscles ached, my skin burned, and my stomach felt like it was twisted in knots. I hated feeling this weak, this helpless.Dr. Arnold adjusted my IV, his face calm but focused. “How are you feeling now?”“Like I got run over by a truck,” I muttered. His lips twitched in amusement, but his eyes remained serious. “The reaction should subside soon. Your body is just struggling to adjust.”I let out a slow breath. “I thought I was getting better.”“You were—you are.” He paused. “But sometimes setbacks happen. The important thing is that we caught it in time.”I nodded weakly. “Thank you.”“Just rest,” he said gently. “Tasha will be here if you need anythin

Adrian’s POVThe morning started off wrong. I knew it the moment I opened my eyes and felt the tension in the air, the unease settling in my chest like a weight I couldn't shake.Sarah stirred beside me, her face scrunched up in discomfort. Her breathing was shallow, her skin pale, and when I placed a hand against her forehead, I felt the heat radiating off her.The moment my mind caught up with what was happening, I sat up, my heart pounding as I turned to her. She was curled into herself, her face twisted in discomfort, beads of sweat forming at her temple."Sarah?" I whispered, brushing her hair back. She let out a low whimper, her hand pressing against her abdomen. "It hurts..."Dread curled in my stomach. She hadn’t complained about pain since we got back home. The worst was supposed to be over.I threw off the covers and immediately reached for my phone. “I’m calling the doctor,” I said firmly, dialing the number as I swung my legs over the side of the bed. I glanced at the cloc

He’s not taking Julian’s resignation lightly, and since I’m the one still under him...” His throat bobbed. “He’s going to come unto me very strongly. And knowing him, he’ll come at us from every angle.”My heart pounded, but I forced myself to stay calm. “What does that

Adrian’s POVThe weight of Julian’s words settled in my chest like a stone. I’d known this moment was coming—the day he’d finally walk away from our father’s expectations—but I hadn’t expected the tension that came with it.Julian stared at me, waiting for my reaction. Sarah, standing a few feet away, had that quiet, assessing look she always wore when she sensed something was off.I exhaled, rubbing my jaw. “Julian, you don’t have to explain yourself to me. If this is what you want—”“It’s not that simple,” he interrupted, shaking his head. “You think he’s just going to let me walk away?” His laugh was bitter. “He’s furious. And you know how he is when he’s mad.”Yeah, I did. Our father was a man who demanded control, who molded his sons into what he deemed worthy. And if you refused to fit the mold? You were a disappointment. A failure.Julian had been fighting that label for years. And now, he was finally letting it go.Sarah stepped forward, her voice softer but firm. “What exactl
