Sarah’s POV

I watched as Julian strolled out of the living room, his parting words to Adrian lingering in the air.

You are doing well.

The warmth of the evening still wrapped around me—laughter, the easy companionship, the quiet touches Adrian didn’t seem to think twice about. It was disarming, how natural it all felt.

Nora stirred slightly against me, her tiny fingers curling tighter around my shirt. I ran a hand over her back, soothing her, while Adrian reached over and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. The gesture was soft, intimate, and it sent something fluttering in my chest.

I exhaled slowly. “She’s out.”

Adrian smiled, his gaze dipping to Nora. “She had a long day.”

“So did you,” I murmured, shifting my attention back to him. His dark eyes met mine, and for a moment, neither of us spoke. The quiet between us wasn’t uncomfortable, but it held something unspoken—something I was finally ready to face.

I looked away first, brushing my fingers over Nora’s hair. “I

Adrian’s POVSarah’s breathing evened out before mine did.She had fallen asleep with her fingers still laced through mine, like she trusted me to hold them through the night.Like she trusted me.I let out a slow breath, staring up at the ceiling, but all I could focus on was the warmth of her beside me. The way her presence filled the space like she had always belonged here.Because maybe she did.I had spent months convincing myself that this marriage was nothing more than an arrangement—something convenient, practical, necessary. But nothing about Sarah had ever been just convenient. She had come into my life like a quiet storm, soft but unrelenting, undoing me in ways I hadn’t been prepared for.And now, she was here. In my bed. Trusting me enough to stay.I turned my head slightly, my gaze drawn to the way her hair fanned out against the pillow, the steady rise and fall of her chest, the way her lips parted slightly in sleep.I had seen her like this before—unguarded, vulnerable

Sarah’s POVI barely heard Nora’s chatter as we walked down the hallway. My mind was still tangled in the events of last night—of waking up with Adrian beside me, of his hand still wrapped around mine like he had no intention of letting go.Like he meant everything he had said. The weight of that realization pressed against my chest. I wasn’t sure how to hold it.Nora tugged at my hand, pulling me out of my thoughts.“Mama, did you hear me?”I blinked, shaking my head. “Sorry, sweetheart. What did you say?”She huffed dramatically. “I said I want pancakes today. And you promised Adrian would tell me a story.”A small smile tugged at my lips. “I did, didn’t I?”She nodded, her curls bouncing. “Yes! A princess and a bunny.”I exhaled, tightening my grip on her small hand as we stepped into the kitchen. “Alright. Pancakes and a story.”Nora cheered, scrambling onto one of the chairs by the island.I reached for the ingredients, trying to focus on the familiar rhythm of cooking—flour, egg

Adrian’s POVThe morning passed in a blur of laughter and stolen glances. I could see the way Sarah tried to keep her guard up, but she wasn’t fooling anyone. Not me. Not Julian. And definitely not Nora, who watched us with the curiosity only a child could have. After breakfast, I set my mug down, leaning back against the counter. “I’ll be heading to the office today.”Sarah nodded, wiping her hands on a dish towel. “Alright.”I glanced at Julian, who was still nursing his second cup of coffee like he had nowhere to be. “And you’re coming with me.”Julian scoffed. “That’s funny.”I stared him down. “You haven’t officially withdrawn from the company. As far as our dear father is concerned, you’re still very much a part of it.”Julian made a face. “Technicalities.”“Responsibilities,” I corrected. “If you’re going to quit, do it properly.”He groaned, setting his cup down dramatically. “Fine. But I’m not wearing a tie.”“Not my problem.” I smirked before turning back to Sarah. “Do you n

Sarah’s POVThe house felt different without Adrian, Julian and Nora. Quieter. Too quiet.I let out a breath, staring at the cup of tea in my hands. It was still warm, but I hadn’t taken more than a sip. My mind was elsewhere—on the conversation Adrian and I had before he left.“I could hire someone to help around the house.”He was worried about me, and I knew his concern came from a good place. But I didn’t need help. Or maybe… I didn’t want it. I was used to handling things on my own. Letting someone else step in felt foreign, like admitting I wasn’t strong enough.I stood, intending to tidy up, but a sudden wave of dizziness hit me. I reached out, gripping the counter to steady myself. It passed quickly, but not quickly enough.Maybe Adrian was right to be worried.Sighing, I pushed through it and go through some of Nora's note which she had left at home. As I placed them on the couch, my phone buzzed on the coffee table.Unknown Number.I hesitated before answering. “Hello?”A pa

Adrian’s POVThe weight of the morning’s revelations settled over me like an iron cloak. Mark Spencer was making a move, and my father’s silence was just as dangerous as his action. I had been gone too long, wrapped up in Sarah, Nora, and the quiet normalcy I’d allowed myself to enjoy. Now, reality was knocking, and I had to answer.Julian stretched out in the chair across from my desk, arms behind his head, looking far too relaxed for someone about to sit in on a high-stakes meeting. “So, how exactly do you plan to convince Angela Cortez? Bribery? Blackmail? Flashing your devastating charm?”Neville shot him a look before turning back to me. “She’s pragmatic, but she also values stability. If we show her that you’re in control, she won’t take the risk of siding with Mark.”I nodded, skimming through the folder in front of me. Angela wasn’t an easy woman to sway. She’d built her reputation on being firm but fair, and she wouldn’t be bought. That meant I needed to give her something Ma

Sarah’s POVThe call with Emily lingered in my mind long after it ended. Even as I moved around the house, trying to keep busy, her words echoed in my head. "I hated you for being her. The one who got to be loved."How was I supposed to process that?I placed Nora’s notes back on the table and walked to the window, staring out at the expanse of land that filled Adrian's estate. The sun had begun to dip, painting the sky in soft hues of orange and pink. My fingers absentmindedly traced the rim of my mug.Emily had been angry—so angry that she had tried to hurt me. And yet, now that the truth had come out, all I could see was the pain underneath it.I took a deep breath, pressing my forehead against the cool glass.Could I really let her into my life? The doorbell rang, pulling me from my thoughts. I straightened, smoothing my hands over my dress before walking to the door. When I opened it, I wasn’t entirely surprised to see Tasha standing there, arms crossed, a knowing look in her eye

Adrian’s POVI watched as Sarah laughed at something Nora said, her eyes soft with warmth. Despite everything weighing on her mind, she was still so present, still so... her.But I knew her well enough to see the worry lingering beneath the surface. As I turned back to the stove, mashing the potatoes, Julian leaned against the counter beside me, his arms crossed. "You don’t like this, do you?"I sighed. "It’s not about what I like. It’s about what’s best for Sarah."Julian scoffed. "And you think letting Emily back in is best?"I set the spoon down, lowering the heat on the stove. "I don’t know. But this isn’t my choice to make. It’s Sarah’s."Julian exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "I just don’t get it, Adrian. Emily nearly killed her. If that accident had gone a little differently—” He shook his head. "You could’ve lost her."I clenched my jaw. "You think I don’t know that?"Julian’s expression softened slightly, but he didn’t back down. "Then why aren’t you fightin

Sarah’s POVThe house was quiet, except for the distant sound of Julian and Adrian’s voices from the game room. I sat on a couch, fingers tracing the rim of my teacup, letting the warmth seep into my skin.Nora had fallen asleep almost as soon as I tucked her in, her tiny hand gripping mine as she murmured something about unicorns and castles. A small smile touched my lips at the memory. She was growing so fast.Tasha, on the other hand, was still here, sprawled out on the couch opposite me, scrolling through her phone with a lazy smirk."You keep staring into space like that, and Adrian might start thinking you're regretting saying yes to him," she teased, glancing up at me.I huffed, shaking my head. "That’s the last thing on my mind.""Good." She sat up, tossing her phone onto the coffee table. "So, tell me. What is on your mind?"I hesitated, wrapping my fingers around my cup. "Emily."Tasha’s smirk disappeared instantly. "You’re really considering seeing her again?"I sighed. "I

Adrian’s POVI tapped my pen against the desk, my mind drifting away from the reports in front of me. It was impossible to focus when I knew what was coming. The board meeting was only a few days away, and if I didn’t have solid proof against Rome and Daniella, everything I’d built—everything my father built—would slip right through my fingers. The sound of the door opening made me glance up. Julian stepped in, his hands in his pockets, his usual air of arrogance dimmed by something quieter.I leaned back in my chair. “Didn’t think I’d be seeing you today.”Julian gave a half-shrug before settling into the chair across from me. “Yeah, well… Sarah thinks I should stop avoiding you.”A small smirk tugged at my lips. “She’s right.”He let out a breath. “Look, I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have backed out the way I did. If I’d stayed—”“Julian, how many times do I have to tell you?” My voice came out firmer than I intended. I set the pen down and met his gaze. “This isn’t on you.”His j

Sarah’s POVI could still feel the warmth of Adrian’s kiss as I left his office, my mind already racing with a plan.If Rome and Daniella wanted to tear this company apart from the inside, then we needed to strengthen the foundation. And that started with the employees. As I walked through the hallway, I passed Julian’s room. The door was slightly open, but the bed was empty. He had left in a hurry this morning, barely saying a word. Something was off with him, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it now.I reached for my phone and dialed Emily. She picked up on the second ring.“Sarah?” Her voice held a mix of surprise and exhaustion.“Hey, Em. I need your help.”She sighed. “If this is about Rome, trust me, I want him gone as much as you do.”“Then let’s make it happen.”There was a pause. “What do you mean, is Adrian ready to help me go against him?”I glanced down the hallway to make sure I was alone before speaking. “You’ve been gathering evidence for your divorce. Adrian’s POVThe morning light filtered through the windows, casting a golden glow over the living room. For the first time in weeks, I allowed myself a moment of peace.Sarah was curled up on the couch, sipping a cup of tea, and Nora was sprawled out on the floor with her coloring book, humming softly to herself. It was the weekend and we'd just finished breakfast, after which Julian had hurriedly left the house without saying a word.It was a rare quiet morning. No urgent calls. No crisis. Just my family.I leaned against the doorway, taking it all in. Sarah glanced up, her gaze meeting mine. A soft smile played on her lips."You're staring," she teased.I smirked. "Can you blame me?"She rolled her eyes, but the blush on her cheeks gave her away.I walked over and pressed a kiss to the top of her head before settling beside her. Nora perked up at the movement, turning her bright eyes on me.“Daddy, can I show you my picture?”“Of course, princess.”She proudly held up the page, a c

Sarah’s POVThe tension in the house was thick enough to cut with a knife. I had seen Adrian in battle mode before, but this was different. He wasn’t just fighting to protect the company—he was fighting to protect himself. His name. His legacy. And I hated that he had to go through this. The moment I sent Nora off to school, I found myself pacing the living room, my heart twisting with unease. Adrian had made it clear he didn’t want me involved, not after everything I’d already been through. But sitting back and watching him carry this weight alone? That wasn’t something I could do either.A knock at the door startled me.I hurried to open it, relieved to see Dr. Monroe.“You got my message,” I said, stepping aside. She nodded, her gaze warm and knowing. “You sounded like you needed someone to talk to.”I did.I led her to the couch, exhaling shakily as I sat down. “It’s happening again.”Dr. Monroe’s expression softened. “You mean the panic attacks?”I nodded. “Every time things star

Adrian’s POVI stared at the email, my mind already working through the implications. Rome and Daniella weren’t wasting time. The financial sabotage was only the beginning. If I was right—and I usually was— the next phase would be hitting soon. And I needed to be ready.I straightened, glancing at Sarah. She was watching me closely, concern shadowing her eyes. I reached for her hand, squeezing it lightly. “I’ll handle this.”She exhaled softly, nodding, but I could tell she wasn’t convinced.Neither was I.The moment Sarah left to check on Nora, I grabbed my phone and dialed Neville. He picked up on the second ring.“I saw the email.” I said without preamble.“Yeah. Classic setup. Just enough money moved around to raise suspicion but not enough to be an obvious hack job.” His voice was steady, but I could hear the tension beneath it. “What’s the move?”“Monitor, but don’t interfere yet,” I said, pacing toward the window. The expanse of land stretched before me, the early morning dew s

Sarah’s POVThe scent of freshly baked chicken pot pie filled the kitchen as I set the plates on the table. Nora sat on her booster seat, swinging her legs excitedly while Adrian poured her a glass of water. For a little while, everything felt normal. Warm. Safe. Like a family should. But my mind was elsewhere.I kept replaying my conversation with Emily—her quiet desperation, the way her hands trembled when she spoke. She wasn’t just scared of Rome; she was trapped.I knew that feeling too well.I had spent years running from my past, from the people who tried to control me, from the pain that never fully left. But Emily—she didn’t have the luxury of running. Not when she had children to protect.“Mommy, why are you staring at your plate?” Nora’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. She frowned, her tiny fingers pushing her fork toward me. “Eat. You said food is important.”I smiled, brushing a stray curl from her face. “You’re right, sweetheart.” I picked up my fork and took a bite, bu

Adrian’s POVI leaned back in my chair, fingers steepled beneath my chin, as I stared at the mountain of paperwork in front of me. It had been another exhausting day—back-to-back meetings, endless negotiations, and a never-ending fight to keep the company stable in the wake of Rome and Daniella’s sabotage. And now, I had another problem.Sarah sat across from me, her expression unreadable, but I could tell something was weighing heavily on her. She hadn’t spoken yet—not really. Just a few hesitant words when she first walked in, a quiet "We need to talk."I had learned to take those words seriously. So, I set my pen down, giving her my full attention. “Alright. I’m listening.”She inhaled deeply, as if preparing herself for whatever she was about to say. “I met with Emily today.”I nodded slowly. That wasn’t surprising. Sarah had mentioned Emily reaching out after she left the hospital. What was surprising was the look in her eyes—the hesitation, the concern, the fear.Something was w

Sarah’s POVThe restaurant Emily had sent me the address to was nothing short of extravagant. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt the weight of luxury pressing down on me. The chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling glowed with an opulence I still wasn't used to after a year of being married to Adrian, their golden light reflecting off the polished marble floors. Soft classical music played in the background, blending seamlessly with the gentle clinking of silverware against porcelain plates.A well-dressed hostess, poised and professional, approached me with a polite but firm expression.“Good afternoon, ma’am. Do you have a reservation?”I hesitated, suddenly aware of how out of place I must have looked in my jeans and hoodie. The guests around me were dressed in designer clothing, their conversations hushed but elegant.“I’m here to see Emily,” I said, keeping my voice even. The hostess’s eyes flickered with something—recognition, maybe? Or suspicion? But she didn’t question

Something I wasn’t seeing yet.I picked up. “What is it?”“Come back,” he said, his tone clipped. “We need to talk now.”I turned on my heel, making my way back to the boardroom. When I reentered, Neville had his hands braced against the table, his usual composed demeanor edged with something sharper.“Alright,” I said, shutting the door behind me. “What’s going on?”Neville straightened, his expression unreadable. “Rome and Daniella are onto something. And it’s already started.”I felt a muscle tense in my jaw. “What do you mean?”He exhaled. “They’ve started undermining you from the inside. Whisper campaigns. Doubts among shareholders. People are questioning your ability to lead.”I scoffed. “That’s nothi
