10 YEARS LATER
I was cleaning the backyard filled with leaves falling from our acacia tree when I heard the phone ring inside the living room. “Hello, may I know who’s calling?” I calmly asked the person calling “I think you are calling the wrong number.” I was about to hung the phone when a girl from the other line started to talk -- I mean not just talk, she actually screamed that almost destroyed my eardrum. “It’s me, Khloe! we’re on our way heading to your home." From what I heard it was Zani who exclaimed full of excitement. “I’m with my triplets by the way and my husband of course.” she added. “Oh! That’s a great news, Zee. I think I better start cleaning the guest’s room." I mumbled “What’s with the sudden flight, Zee?” “Gosh, Khloe! How could you have forgotten the special day of your best friend?” She miserable muttered “Tell me you’re joking, aren’t you?” She's pissed. I rolled my eyes and laugh silently trying to fool her as if I really did forgot her special day. Zee never change since our first met, she’s still funny. “Yes I did, young lady. And there’s no need to make a scene. Aren’t you shy acting like a baby in front on your triplets Hahahaha.” I extremely burst into laughter. “Hey! Just go clean our room, and be fast, darling . We’ll be there in about 5 minutes.” She palely commanded ending our calls. It’s been almost 10 years since she visited the Philippines again after their marriage with Kian. That’s also a good thing for me and for my little serene mansion, at least I have someone to talk to. I cut my thoughts when I heard the door bell loudly rung another after another. “Are you trying to destroy my door bell?” I exclaimed as I opened the door for them. I saw her with a wide smile, staring at me with her husband and children. “Who are you?” I mused, examining them pretending as if I didn’t know them. “Shut up you silly woman.” Zani snapped and jumped inside giving me the warmest and best hug ever. “I missed you” She whispered. “I know, you’re just wasting your time stating what’s obvious.” I saw Kian silently laugh but Zee heard it and throw a ferocious gaze at him. “Yes darling? You seems to be laughing for no reason.” She sharply snorted crossing her arms facing her Husband. Kian and I both laughed. “Come on, get in little cutie bear." I invited them leaning down a bit to the 3 cutie girls who looks exactly the same. “We’re not bear, we’re girls." Corrected by the one in the left. I bit my lower lips and turn to Zee. “She must be the next Khloe among the three.” I widen my eyes. “Don’t talk casually to the elders, Arie. Okay?” Kian snapped carrying Arie and headed upstairs with his two other girl tailing behind him. I walked to the kitchen with Zani to prefer some foods for her childen. “Seems like you’re alone, young lady” said Zani while pouring some milk. “Where’s your husband?” I slowly look at her then pose like a model. “Woah, A slow-mo turn.” She praised clapping at me. She’s always my number one supporter in all the things I did back then, and I'm glad that she's still like that until now. “I don't even know who are you referring to? ” I replied using the spoon as my microphone. Then she laughed a little. “Oh! Tell me we haven't met that young, tall, a bit bad boy-style guy back in the US..” She look down covering her mouth. I look at her with my tiger looking eyes. “Did I tell you how much he's into me more than I am into him?” I mumbled blowing my fingernails. We look at each other, mused for a second then burst into laughter like an idiot. "No, not at all." She responded. "Well, it's that important, I guess." I retorted and handed her the dough recipe I made. *** After cooking, we decided to follow upstair and watch some movies while waiting for our baked pizza to get cook. “Do you have a baby?” Arie started breaking the silence inside the living room. That calls my attention. “You must be lonely then." She added. I straighten my back and put my plates of chocolate cakes back on the table. “Alexa, be careful, the cake is all over your face, you’re so careless.” Zani retorted cleaning Alexa’s face with tissue. “She had her own family, they are just in another place doing business, Alexa” Zani lied and gave me a quick blink. These two kids are really talkative except the other one who’s silently and carefully eating her cake. I like her style, she kinda remind me of my self. “Hey baby, What’s your name? You seems to be quiet since the moment you arrived. “My name’s Angelica, and yes I'm not really fond of talking a lot. Just like what I have read from the magazine quotes that goes "If talking is silver, then listening is gold.” unquote. She sweetly explained. I was genuinely shocked with what she said. I can't believe that in her young age she can talk formally like that. What a child. I look at Kian and Zani with disbelief that out of their three babies they got the matured and well mannered daughter. “Why is that you don’t want to talk?” I ask again hoping for her to share her reason. “’Cause my grade 4 adviser told me that it is better to listen than to talk, and so I only talk when it is needed.” she calmly stated. I was in a complete state of shock after witnessing what she just said. She’s so young but knows lot of good things and attitude. I should say that she’s way better than me when I was at her age. “You’re such a genius. You must have a flying average in school?” I jokingly said. Zani wag her head as a signed of disagreement. "No, I don't. Arie and Alexa are much better than me." She heavily mumbled. I wasn't really expecting that, maybe one reason why she didn't get better marks is because of her attitude on being timid and talk less. "That's fine, you don't need to worry about that, I can tutor you if you want" I offered giving her my wide sweet smile. "Thank you, I would love to be your student." she smiled back. “By the way, do you mind sharing some stories about your life? If it is fine with you.” She requested in a soft tone. “Ye-yes of course! Where do you want me to start?” I ask in excitement. “From the very beginning.” she walked and sit beside me. Then continue eating her cake while staring at me. “Okay let’s start from the day where my journey started.” I slowly mumbled. Everyone moves closer as I said that. Even Kian and Zani seems to be interested too. "OMG I'm so excited" giggled Zani, graving on to Kian's arm and leaning her head on him. "Silly woman, you do really still act like an elementary student." I snorted that makes her draw a straight face. "Come on just start sharing." demanded Zani in her 6 years old-like funny tone. "Come on, Genius Queen. " "Okay, okay! No need to rush, madame. " I simply replied. And exhaled deeply before starting. "So, it was my last day in Australia before I flew to the Philippines to continue my study as a transferring student in Vanshelleton University." I began with the storytelling. As I started, everything flashes back into my mind, all the laughs and cries, the flights, the school, the professors and also...HIM.August 21, 2016. I heard a loud knock on my door. I slowly open my eyes and look for my phone first before jumping off my bed. Damn it's already 9:00 in the morning. As always, I woke up late, ate my breakfast late and start my day late. I don't care, I have nothing to worry, I have tones of clothes, received lots of money from Mom and Dad monthly and I have maids who cleaned the house, cooked foods, and do all the works inside this boring house. "Khloe! I'll break this door in a second if you won't leave your bed!" Dad exclaimed in anger. "What? Khloe? Are you really trying me, huh!" He warned. I jumped out of bed swiftly and walk towards the door like a penguin covered with my huge and thick blanket. "Yes, Dad?" I sigh after opening the door staring at him in a boring way possible. "Come down we have a special things to patch." He said in a very commanding voice then turned his torso away from me. His face is completely red. I could really see the anger inside him but he
We are in the table eating our dinner. I couldn’t move my sight from this guy whom I just saw. “What’s with the look, young lady?” He snorted, deeply slicing his chicken legs. “Nothing, I’m just a little bothered with your super slim tummy” I sarcastically said. Aunt and Uncle Alberto look at each other like they are communicating through their minds. “Huh! Should I laugh now?” He said not even looking at me. “That must be the greatest jokes of yours,” He added. “I’m no joking here, you’re the one who’s looking funny over there with your bear-like stomach.” I said, curling my hair with my left point finger. “Ops! Did I just stated the obvious?” “Woah, and that really comes from you,” He immediately throw.“Yes, from the goddess of knowledge and beauty. Her name’s Khloe Maureen Neufeld.” I stated in an irritating tone that burns him more. Aunt and Uncle both burst into laughter and I joined. “Who do you think you are?” He snapped, cutting our laughter out.“Shall I repeat my word
I stopped narrating as I saw all the 3 girls already asleep, and that includes Zani. I wagged my head looking at Kian trying to wake Zani silently. “I guess It’s time to hit the sack as well.” I stated looking at Kian and Zani carrying their children upstairs. Angelica was the one left behind and I volunteered to carry her since she’s not that heavy. I woke up into a loud knock in my door. I look for my table clock to see what time is it. “Gosh! It’s past 13 past 9:00 in the morning,” I stated in my head and swiftly left my bed. “Woah! Sleeping like a princess huh!” Zani murmured as I open the door. Like a madame she crosses her arms while throwing me a malicious stare. She’s been like this ever since our old days. “I’m sorry my queen” I mumbled leaning down a little. She crossed her arms again and raised her left brow. “Apology accepted,” She snorted, and we both burst into laughter. We already have our own family but still acting like an elementary child. As I finished taking

Angelica is about to open the my room’s door of her parents when we hear a thunderous exclaimed of Zani. But we didn’t bother to mind that. As Angelica was about to opened the door, we hear again a smash of glass on the floor then hear Zani screams in her crying-like tone. I look at the girls and they all seems to be shock with what they just witnessed, they are speechless. “Don’t worry, maybe your Mom just saw a snake or a cockroach,” I lied. I know that it’s a couple’s thing and I should not let these innocent children hear those ear-breaking words. “I’ll just check what’s happening, go inside my room instead and wait for me there okay?” I was
Three days after we have received an offer from the Dean to be an Exchange student to the US-I finally got the nerves to speak up and tell my parents. But like what I have expected, it’s a no again for them.“This is the reason why we really insisted for you to just study here in the UAE, Maureen. But you keep saying that you wanted to finish your senior high school there. I guess that would happen instead in States not in the Philippines anymore!” Mom angrily scolded me over the phone. “I won’t allow you to study there! Is that clear?”She growled over the line.“But Mom, this is a huge opportunity for me to finish my Senior high in one of the best University in the world. Imagine Mom, tones of opportunities will knock on me once I graduate there specially with a flying colors.” I stated trying to convince her. But Mom isn’t that easy to convince.“I’ll talk to your teacher and to the Dean of Vanshelleton University,” She replied instead and then ended up the call without even allowing
After the class, I decided to go to the library and wait for Jonathan there. We’re both unfamiliar with our condo locations so we agreed to just wait for each one of us. He still have classes until 6:15 in the evening.Johansson’s Library were huge and full of new collections of different books all around the world. I picked two books with me and look for a table where I can read but all the tables were occupied. I saw an empty chair at the end corner of Science section and marched there. It’s already 6:18 but Jonathan isn’t here yet. The students are starting to leave and there are just about 20 students roaming around but I patiently waited for Jonathan ‘till I unconsciously fall asleep.I woke up to a loud noise from the right corner of library.“Oh gosh!” I mumbled as I saw that the room is completely dark and only a reflection of light from the window serves as my guiding light to see my way.“Is anyone there?” I heard a loud voice coming to the library. Oh gosh it’s the Universi
“Woah, the tiger seems to be alone.” Jennifer mumbled and without any excuses she sat down at the top of the table where I am sitting next to. Wow! The nerve, Girl.“And what’s with the sudden reunion of the 3 snakes?” I confidently inquired in a well compose sound. “I’ll talk to you later, Zee.” I excused myself, and when I almost hung the call Tiffany forcefully grab the phone off my hand. I swiftly stand to grab back my phone, but Jennifer pulled my hair so hardly that I felt like my hair are about to separate from my scalp. Dang it! I just can't tolerate someone who held me with their filthy hands. Not my hair, snakes!“Not my hair a*shole! Don’t touch me with your filthy manly hand!” I pulled my hair quickly resulting for it to lose its tie and have my flawless hair flew in the air like I just did a shampoo advertisement. I coldly push her back that result for her falling from the table where she sat.“Give me back my phone!” I screamed hardly out of my lungs and gave all my stre
I woke up to a sound of my phone as it loudly rung. I gently opened my eyes and started looking for my bag, but it is on the table. “Wait, what? Where am I?” I unconsciously questioned myself which got my attention to roam my eyes around before taking the call. The room is empty and serene. It’s quite clean then I saw a sign over the door and found out that I am inside the school clinic right now. I will be forever grateful to that guy for not just saving my life but eventually bringing me back to life. I think it’s now safe to say that he is my cold angel. I moved myself closer to reach for my phone inside my bag and answered the phone. “Yes mom?” I muttered trying to hide my husky voice. It was almost a week that I haven’t received any call from any of them so I’m a bit nervous for this one. I just hope that our dean hasn’t yet tell them about what happened to me. “Are you alright?” Mom asked from the other line. “You’re sick, am I wrong Maureen?” Mom really knows everything a
