Chapter 0003

Anna's POV

I couldn't open my eyes, felt someone carrying me, and sensed the warmth of their body.

I was confused and scared, lying on something soft and comfortable.

I heard the sound of a car engine, and my anxiety grew. Suddenly, the car came to a stop, and I felt a jolt. The darkness took over, and I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed, and I could hear the sound of machines beeping.

I looked around, and I saw a nurse and a man in a suit standing next to me. The nurse forced a smile and said, "You're awake. How are you feeling?"

I tried to speak, but my throat was still dry, and I couldn't form any words. The nurse understood and handed me a glass of water.

I drank it slowly, and my throat felt a bit better. The nurse then explained to me that I had been in an accident and that I had suffered some injuries.

As she spoke, the memories came flooding back, and I remembered the pain and the fear that I had felt.

As if something hit my mind, I hurried to touch my baby bump, but I felt nothing. My mind went blank.

"Nurse, where is my baby?" I asked her in a panic.

The suit man who was standing by my bed held me gently to lie down on the hospital bed when I tried to get up to reach the nurse’s hands.

“I, I…” I felt as if my breath paused for a second.

"Take a breath, breathe in and out," I did as the man said, and magically it worked. It calmed my nerves and prevented me from having a panic attack.

"Ma'am, you lost the baby due to the accident," the nurse said to me, and I held onto someone's arm tightly to prevent myself from falling onto the ground.

I broke down upon hearing those words from the nurse.

"I'm sorry, ma'am," she apologised with her eyes showing a bit of compassion.

I was lost and I didn't know what to do,I buried my face in something soft and warm, it gave me comfort.

Soon I realised my face was buried in the arms of a man in suit, but I ignored it.

I held onto it tightly for dear life. I held it like a cling to a vine on the cliff.

We stayed in that position even after the nurse left.

He was telling me words of encouragement. "We thank God you are alive. You can have more children in the future," the man said.

“Why didn't you allow me to die?”

“Why did you save me if you couldn't save my child?”

“I want to die.”

The man placed his finger on his lips and whispered, "Shhhhhhh! Don't ever say that again.

He then embraced me and patted my back as if I were a baby.

The man looked down at me and our eyes met and I saw the warmth and concern in his eyes.

Why does this stranger look so concerned?

His arms wrapped tightly around me, holding me close as if he was trying to protect me from the world.

As I looked up again at him, I could see the concern etched on his face. is this stranger worried about me?

No one has really cared about me but seeing the genuine concern in the eyes of this stranger touched my heart.

It reminds me of a phrase I read in a book, “there are still good people out there.”

The silence between us was deafening, and I could hear my heart beating in my chest.

I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself, wiping away my tears with the back of my hand.

"Just be grateful that you survived," he said firmly.

"I'm sorry I stained your clothes," I said, looking down at his suit, which was now damp with my tears.

"It's okay," he replied, his voice soothing. "Don't worry about it."

He pulled me back onto the bed gently before walking to the window. I was about to tell him to call my husband for me when I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen.

It was sudden and intense. I screamed out loud, and my body started shaking involuntarily.

Thankfully, he was quick to respond to my distress. I Immediately reached out my hand, trying to stop him because I didn't want to stay alone. I was too scared to stay alone.

“I will be back in a few seconds, he rushed out of the room leaving me alone.”

I wondered if I was going to be okay, I tried to calm myself down, taking deep breaths and trying to focus on something positive.

The man entered the room, followed by an elderly-looking woman and a nurse.

"I found you your doctor. It's gonna be okay." The suit man said behind them.

The woman asked me how I was feeling. I tried to speak, but the pain was too much. I could only groan and whimper in agony.

The doctor examined me carefully, asking me questions and checking my vital signs.

She seemed concerned about my condition, and I could see the worry etched on her face. Finally, she spoke up.

"This will reduce the pain you are feeling," she said, as she gave me an injection. I felt a sharp sting, and then a strange sensation of relief.

The pain was still there, but it was less intense now, more bearable.

The doctor turned to suit man."Sir, your wife needs more rest, and she must avoid anything that will stress her up," she said to him.

I wanted to tell her that he wasn't my husband, that he was just a kind stranger who had helped me.

But my vision had become blurred, and my mind was foggy.

I closed my eyes, trying to block out the world and focus on my breathing, I drifted off to sleep soon after.
