The room was grand, with high ceilings and intricate chandeliers that sparkled in the afternoon sunlight. Martins and I walked in together, his hand resting protectively on the small of my back. We were a united front, and I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room on us. Luke and Nelly were already seated, their faces tense and uneasy.

They were discussing their plans for the engagement party when a voice called out from behind them. "Carina, wait!" Carina turned to see Nelly striding towards her, her face twisted in anger. Carina sighed inwardly, knowing this confrontation was inevitable. She squeezed Martins’ hand briefly before letting go. "I'll be right there," she told him softly. Martins nodded, understanding, and walked a few steps away, keeping an eye on the situation. "What do you want, Nelly?" Carina asked, her voice steady and calm. Nelly sneered. "I want to talk to you, alone." Carina raised an eyebrow. "Alright, let's talk. But make it quick." They walked a little way from the house, where they were out of earshot but still visible to Martins. Nelly wasted no time. "You think you're so clever, don't you?" Nelly spat. The afternoon sun streamed through the grand windows of Madam Katie’s estate, casting a warm glow over the opulent living room where we sat. The atmosphere was one of relaxed anticipation as we went over the final details of my handing-over ceremony. Madam Katie was an elegant figure, her presence commanding and reassuring. Martins sat beside me, his demeanor as supportive as ever, though there was a tension in the air that neither of us had addressed. "Everything is set for the ceremony next week," Madam Katie said, her eyes twinkling with pride. "You’ll be marvelous, Carina." "Thank you, Madam Katie," I replied, trying to match her enthusiasm. "I’m looking forward to it." Martins excused himself to handle a phone call, leaving me alone with Madam Katie. As soon as he was out of earshot, she turned to me, her gaze sharp and inquisitive. "Carina," she began, her tone gentle but probing, "what’s going on between you and Martins?" I felt my cheeks flush with sudden embarrassment. "
