JEROME

“Jay, I’ve missed you so much.” Her sultry voice filled my ear.

“Likewise.” I responded, blandly.

“You said we’d see two weeks ago, I even wore the purple lingerie you liked - and you cancelled on me.” I could already see her pouting.

“Something came up.” I replied, my eyes trailing her as she walked into the café.

“And when has that ever stopped you?”

Why was she taking so long in the café? Was she meeting up with someone? Probably the bastard I saw touch her in the hallway.

I felt the anger rise in my veins. “10pm. Marrison Hotel. Same room.”

“Promise you won’t stand me up this time, because I’m getting all dolled up for you jay.”

“Hm.” I responded absentmindedly, my eyes on café.

She was still inside.

“Jay I was thinking… why don’t we do something different tonight?”

“What?” I asked annoyed.

“We’ve never made love in your home before, and we’ve been doing this for a while now, don’t you think it’s - “

“My home is off limits. You know this.” I said firmly.

DIANA It hurt. It hurt so much. The flames danced around me like it was listening to a song. A melody I was not privy to. It would have been a beautiful sight, but not from where I was standing. The tongues of fire wrapped themselves around me, their hold possessive. Immediately my skin peeled off my flesh, leaving my bones bare to the flames. But it was cold. So cold, like a glacier on my bones. I began to shiver in the sea of flames, my tears extinguished before they reached the embers beneath my feet. “Look at what you’ve become.” I heard his voice echo around me. “You will always be a monster!” “Please stop.” I whimpered as I buried my face in my hands. “You will burn forever!!!” “Stop!! Stop!! Stop!! - “ I screamed from the top of my lungs, my eyes burning with tears. And suddenly I felt arms around me, a warmth I craved deeply in the midst of the fire. “Princess, just hold on okay?” His voice softly wrapped itself around my heart, shielding it from the blaze within

DIANAHe was the last person I needed to see right now.He turned to me, something flashing in his eyes as he stared me up and down. What the hell was he doing here?“What are you doing here?” I frowned at him, my grip on my bag tighter as I stopped some feet away from him.“Don’t start thinking I’m here for you, Diana.” Kevin scoffed. “I came here to take what belongs to me.”“Which is?” I raised a brow, tired and irritated from the whole day.“A frame.” He said simply. “The one with the gold inlays.” “Too bad, Kevin. I threw it out.” I pursed my lips. Why would he think I’d still keep anything that belonged to him here?“Are you kidding me, Diana?’ His outburst shouldn’t have shocked me, it’s the exact same way he behaved when we were together, but it did anyway. “The least you could have done was come over and returned the damn thing!”“When you left, I imagined you’d taken all you felt was of value to you-“ everything that wasn’t me. “-so a plain frame shouldn’t ruffle your feat

DIANA.How much farther must you climb till fear settles? How much farther till it disappears? For a moment I didn’t know what to say. I just stared like an absolute fool as they stared back at me. I couldn’t help gawking at the woman he had in his arms. She was beautiful.Drastically so..Her wavy blond hair flowed like honey down her back, bright eyes and a perfect heart shaped face, lips full and red. But that wasn’t what held my attention. It was her skin.Porcelain white, like a perfect Chinese pottery. Not a single blemish. Not a single scar.‘‘Diana.’’ He pulled me out of my thoughts, his brow furrowing slightly as I stood. ‘Is there something I can help you with?’‘‘I-’’ I pulled my gaze away from the woman, and back to him. ‘‘I would like to speak with you, sir..in private, please.’’ He only turned to the woman, letting go of her as he spoke.‘I’ll meet you at the hotel.’ The woman pouted, obviously annoyed but she nodded anyway. She looked at me, sizing me up from my head

DIANA Reason seemed to have flown out of the window and by the time it was crawling back in, he had already entered the apartment. One look around and I knew Lily wasn’t home. The fact that she hadn’t even left a note made me slightly worried. She was here before I left, and she hadn't mentioned going anywhere. That was odd.. I slipped out my phone from my pant pockets, sending a quick message to her;*Hey, did something happen?*“I'm sorry if my apartment is too small..’ I mumbled to him as I returned the phone, watching him as he stared round. Did he think it was messy? Was the style not to his liking? Was the furnishing too old for him? “I can manage.” He smirked, sitting on my couch and crossing his legs like he owned the place. I crossed my fingers, staring down at him in awkward silence.“Uhm, would you like Chinese?” I raised a brow, “Pizza?”He stated at me like I'd said something funny.“You want to order?” He leaned back, a smile playing on his lips.“Yeah.” I pursed my

DIANA It burnt the moment his lips touched mine, like gold on embers, heating up to the highest degree but never melting away, never scarring. I felt this heat circulate through my body, settling in my belly. It was a volcanic eruption, a force to behold, one I did not have the strength to contend with. My lips parted as his tongue broke through, filling my mouth with the taste of untamed passion, void of any hint of inhibition, a feeling I had never known. His hold on my waist tightened as he pulled me closer to his chest, deepening the kiss. A moan fled from my lips in response, and it seemed to have riled up something in him. He groaned and he placed one hand on my ass, squeezing it hard, and the other hand wrapped itself around my throat, slightly choking me. I gasped as he pulled away from me, his grey eyes locked with mine, wild with desire. In that moment I believed more than anything that he wanted me, badly. No one has ever looked at me in such a way, so needy for me.

DIANA Oh shit! Oh shit!My heart pounded in my chest as I gripped the door handle tightly. What was he doing here?? Of all days to come, why today??? My eyes shot in his direction as he came out of the room, “Who is it?” He asked a single brow raised.“It’s a friend.” I blurt out, and his eyes go to my hand on the door handle. “What friend?” He questioned as he made his way towards me. “No, no you cannot see him!” I rushed forward, placing my hands on his chest in an attempt to stop him from opening the door. I wasn’t afraid of him seeing David. I was afraid of David seeing him.“Him?” His brow furrowed, displeasure so clear in his tone.“It’s someone from work, it’s not what you think.” I said hurriedly as my back pressed against the door.“Is it that same guy I saw you with?” I felt my heart palpitate at the way his gaze hardened.“Yes, but like I said, he's just a friend.” My laugh comes out shaky as I try to reason. “Then tell your friend you can see at work.” He stressed,

DIANA When my eyes flipped open, he was gone. A wind of disappointment blew past me, as I placed my hand on the side he slept on, sniffing his musky scent that still lingered on the sheets. A part of me hoped he would stay, and we’d eat together and have a repeat of the night before, over and over again.I scoffed at the thought. What a foolish idea. One night together and I’m becoming delusional. Last night was just like the first night we met, just a moment we allowed ourselves to fall into the arms of uninhibited desire, however fleeting. And that’s all it was. Don’t give it more importance than it deserves. I sighed and rose up from the bed, walking out of the room and heading to the kitchen make some instant coffee to clear my head. As I got to the kitchen, I paused. Something wasn’t right. All the dishes were washed, even the pots he cooked with last night. The countertop was sparkling clean, the dishes stacked neatly on the rack. What the.. I stared blankly as I opened

I felt a sinking in my stomach, my moth dry as I quickly glanced round. Everyone was staring.“Kevin, it is way too early for all this, and honestly speaking, I am not in the mood.” I tried shoving him off, wanting to get out of this place, but he didn’t even budge, blocking my way.“All the staff know he was the one who took you to the hospital.” Kevin crossed his arms as he raised a brow.“And when did helping someone become a sign that you’re fucking?” I was one more word away from a scream, letting out a breath in exasperation as I stared at him.“Mr Leota would never go out of his way to help a common staff, unless there’s s

DIANA I could not believe the words that just came out of this man’s mouth. “You just bought this house?” I repeated like I hadn’t heard him.“Yes.” He stared at me like I was the weird one.Like he didn’t just buy a house for a date!I laughed, looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to laugh as well and tell me he was joking. But the laughter died down when all he did was cock a brow as he watched me. He was serious.I stole a glance at the house again, The looming pillars and shining lass windows seemed to stare back at me in irony. This house was massive.I wasn’t exaggerating.“Why would you buy a house??” I gasped, staring at him with parted lips.“I didn’t think you’d be comfortable in a hotel.” So this man bought a house on a whim, because he thought I’d be uncomfortable at a hotel?“You’re unbelievable.” I shook my head at him, my lips rising in a disbelieving smile. He smirked and took me by the hand, leading me into the house, and my jaw almost reached the ground

DIANA My eyes fluttered open as I felt his lips graze mine, his bluish gray eyes sparkling in shadow of the dim orange hue emanating from the walls. Before I could speak, he crashed his lips on mine, his hands firm on my waist. His lips no longer tasted of champagne, this time it tasted of an elixir dripping like honey, it was intoxicating. My eyes drifted close as I savored the sweetness. He lifted me from the chair, bridal style, and I leaned into his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck. He never tore his gaze from mine, not even for a second. I didn’t even notice we had reached the room, until he placed me on the bed gently, and he didn’t give me room to reason, to think hard about what was about to happen. He pounced on me, his lips attacking mine ravishingly, the taste of desire filling our mouths. I gave into the attack, willingly gave myself up as prey to be devoured by him. And then he paused, and jumped off me abruptly, like he had been stung. I frowned, I coul

DIANA A fire blazed in the pits of my belly as his lips touched mine. It burned in ways I had never felt before… it was a flame I would willingly give my soul on a platter to be consumed by, completely. The taste of his lips had an undertone of the sweetness from the champagne, somehow the champagne tasted better on his lips, like a new mixture had been created… something divine, not of this earth. And I would devour that mixture like it was the potion to heal this painful hunger inside me… because it was. I gave into his touch as my body melted into his arms, obeying his every command. His hand rested on the small of my back pulling me closer to him, incinerating the little distance between us, till all that separated us was the fabric on our bodies, begging to be ripped off.His grip on my neck tightened and a gasp escaped my lips as they part, giving way for his warm tongue to break through and intertwine with mine. My hands wandered to his broad back, my nails digging throu

I eyed him carefully as I took his hand and stepped out of the car, my eyes scanning my environment. Why on earth were we at an airport?? He walked to the back, opening the trunk of his car and bringing out a bag, slinging it over his shoulder.Suddenly, a man walked up to us with a professional smile, bowing slightly, and then Mr Leota threw the car key key at him.“Why are we at an airport?” I felt like I was watching everything through a screen. Like I wasn’t even present. What in the world was happening…?“Has anyone told you you ask so many questions?” He cocked his head to the side with a teasing smile, before reaching out and holding my hand, leading me across the open lane-And straight to a private jet. There were three people lined up next to the

I rolled my eyes glancing out the window again - he was still there, staring.“But he was,” I stressed, looking away from him. “Having a bodyguard isn’t necessary.”“It is.” His voice was firm.“You’re overreacting.” I purse my lips.“Until you get hurt?” He scoffed through the line. “I won’t let that happen.”“One day, all this talk about us will die down, and people will lose interes

DIANA I turned away almost immediately, my grip tightening on the mug in my hands. I thought with the shades and the hat, no one would recognize me. How did he even know I would be here??Did he trail me from my apartment?? From the way he looked, he didn’t seem like a harmless reporter. He towered over everyone that walked by, and his face didn’t scream anything remotely close to friendly. He looked like he could pin to the ground and crush me beneath his feet in a second. What did he want with me? Mr Leota’s warnings rang in my ear - what if he’s armed? What if he wanted to kidnap me? Or worse? “Someone’s watching me.” I whispered, my eyes fixed on Lilly, laced with fear. “What?” She asked, her brows creased in confusion. “Across the street,” I said, my voice low. She turned to the window pane, her eyes glancing only for a moment before turning back to me, “There are several people on the street, Dee.”“The tall guy, the one leaning on the lamp post.” I said, my voice fi

DIANA The silence that radiated in the cafe was a stark contrast to the discord my mind has been subjected to. As I sipped the latte in my hands, I could not savor the smoothness, or the smell, as I usually did. My mind was far from here. It was in my apartment, two days ago, listening to his words. His warnings. He had told me to more careful - why was that? I understood that my Identity had become public, but sooner or later that would have happened anyways, due to the nature of my work. But the worry in his eyes shook me greatly. Like he truly believed there was an impending doom waiting for me. Was it because of his position? His status? Or did he have some crazy ex that would hunt me down and kill me? I scoffed, taking another sip. That wouldn’t surprise me. Right now, I couldnt know for sure what he was talking about, because before I could ask, he received a call and left abruptly. We haven’t spoken since then. To be fair, I haven’t spoken to anyone since, I just

His eyes widened slightly at my sudden action, but he closed it slowly, grabbing my waist and pulling me closer in the kiss.I stared at Kevin with the corner of my eye, the shock that was pasted on his face eventually gave way to pure anger, his fist tightened as he watched us, my lips curled up as I deepened the kiss, watching him turn sharply, stomping away. The moment he was out of sight, I pressed my hands to Jeromes chest and pulled away from him gently. He stared down at me with an amused gaze, his brow raised as he watched me.“What?” The corner of my lips twitched as I cleared my throat, taking a step back.“Why the change of heart?” He smirked at me.“It’s just a kiss.” I shook my head, rubbing a hand through my hair. “-and everyone has seen it, apparently.”He stared at me for a moment, and I barely managed to keep his gaze.“Let me take you home.” He said.
