Amelia pulled her car into the gas station, the sound of the engine dying as she shifted into the park. She got out of the car and stretched her arms, looking around at the familiar surroundings.

The gas pumps stood like sentinels, their bright colors and bold lettering a stark contrast to the dull gray of the pavement. The convenience store loomed behind them, its windows reflecting the fading light of day.

Amelia walked into the store, the bell above the door jingling as she entered. She paid for her gas and waited for the attendant to fill her tank, her eyes scanning the aisles of snacks and drinks.
