Ava and Luke sat in the hospital waiting room, their eyes fixed on the doors leading to the operating room. They had been waiting for what felt like an eternity, their minds racing with worst-case scenarios.

Finally, the doctor emerged, his face somber. "Are you the deceased relative?”

“Yes, yes,” Ava replied almost immediately and paused. “Deceased?”

“I'm so sorry," he began, his voice gentle but firm. "We did everything we could, but Lisa didn't make it."

Ava's world came crashing down around her. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. "Uh?” She stuttered. “What do you mean?" she whispered, her voice shaking.

"The hit on her head created a serious cloth to her brain and from the side of the hit, there was no immediate remedy depending on the time she was brought in. Sorry, but we did all we could, but couldn’t save her." the doctor explained. "There wasn't much bleeding afterward, but...she just gave up."
