{Martha's POV}

Nathan stood up, but he didn't look in my direction. It was obvious he was trying to avoid eye contact with me.

"I'm not cutting things off with you," he said, his voice steady but cold. "I just don't want you around me."

His words struck like a dagger to my chest. My breath hitched as panic set in.

"No, don't do this to me," I sobbed, shaking my head. "I know it's my fault. I should have told you earlier. I should have... told you I'm Martha Stewart."

Nathan's head snapped toward me, his brows furrowing in anger. His jaw clenched, the muscle ticking as he processed my words.

"I still don't understand why you lied to me," he said, his tone sharp. "Even if you had told me about your past, I wouldn't have judged you for it."

I tried stepping closer, reaching for him, but he stepped away as if my touch burned him.

"I would have helped you," he continued, voice thick with frustration. "I could have gotten you a lawyer, investigated the case, fought for you." He raked a hand

    {Martha's POV}After Hendrix placed the last of my bags inside, he gave me a nod before stepping out, leaving me alone in the small apartment that now felt like a prison cell.The silence was suffocating.I raked my fingers through my hair, pulling it into a ponytail before forcing myself to move. The closet stood empty in the corner of the room, a hollow reminder that I had to start over. One by one, I picked up my clothes and hung them neatly, trying to create some sense of order in the chaos of my life.This was my mistake, and I intended to sit in it, wallow in it, until somehow, things bounced back to normal.I was about to hang a pink polo shirt when a sharp knock on the door made me pause.I frowned. Who would come here?I hadn’t told anyone about this place except Carolina, and maybe Mrs. Evans had found out and come to check on me.Dropping the shirt back into the bag, I walked out of the bedroom and toward the door, my heart beating a little faster.But when I opened it, my

    {Martha's POV}I inhaled deeply, letting the air fill my lungs before releasing it in a slow exhale. My fingers traced small, anxious circles against my palm as I sat in Michael’s sleek black SUV, parked right in front of one of my parents' former companies, now defaced with a massive golden sign bearing the Henderson name.My stomach twisted with unease.This building had once belonged to my family, a legacy built with years of dedication. But now, it stood as a cruel reminder of everything that had been stolen from me.I should have gone inside with Michael.Maybe I should’ve been there to witness the exact moment Peter's arrogant smirk faltered as Michael handed him the court's first interrogation letter. The thought alone gave me a sick sort of satisfaction.After my failed attempt to retrieve the documents myself, this lawsuit was my last hope.I leaned my head against the headrest, staring out the windshield at the glassy surface of the towering structure.
