Chapter: A Mother’s Worse fear

The hotel was quiet, a stark contrast to the chaos from earlier. The guests were gone, the music had long faded, and the only sounds left were the occasional whispers of the police officers still stationed outside.

I sat in the dimly lit lounge area, staring blankly at my phone. My body felt numb, but my mind was racing. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Josh’s face, his bright smile, the way he laughed when he told me silly jokes.

Now, he was out there. Alone. Afraid.

Alex sat beside me, his presence the only thing keeping me from falling apart completely. “You should rest, Mira,” he said softly, his voice laced with concern. “I know you won’t sleep, but at least close your eyes for a while.”

I shook my head. “I can’t. What if they call? What if there’s news?” My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard to keep the sobs from escaping.

He reached out and gently took my hand in his. “I promise you, we’ll find him. I won’t stop until we do.”

I nodded, but be

Chapter: A Mother’s PleaThe morning was quiet. Too quiet.I stood outside Josh’s bedroom door, my hand hovering over the wooden surface. I had barely slept all night, my mind replaying the heartbreaking moment when he ran away from me. The pain in his eyes, the betrayal in his voice—it haunted me.Taking a deep breath, I finally knocked.“Josh?” My voice was soft, hesitant.“Go away,” he muttered from inside. His words hit me harder than I expected. My throat tightened, and without warning, my legs gave out. I sank to the floor right there by his door, my shoulders shaking as tears streamed down my face.“Josh, please…” I whispered. “Please don’t be mad at me.”There was silence from the other side.“I know you’re upset,” I continued, my voice breaking. “I know you think I’m doing this to hurt you, but I swear, baby, I’m not. I just—I need to keep you safe.”Still, nothing.I buried my face in my hands, my heart heavy. “I love you more than anything in this world, Josh. I would never

Chapter: A Mother’s Strength is her child I grabbed Aaron by the arm and dragged him outside, away from my office and out of my home. I was beyond furious. He had barged in unannounced, yelling, accusing, making everything worse when I was already barely holding myself together. When we got outside, I let go of him and turned to face him, my hands clenched into fists.“Listen to me, Aaron,” I said, my voice low but firm. “Don’t you ever come to my house again and make noise. I won’t tolerate it. This is my home, and I won’t let you storm in here, shouting and blaming me for everything.”Aaron exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck as if he was finally realizing how out of line he had been. “I was just worried, Mira,” he muttered, his tone softer now.I narrowed my eyes at him. “Worried? If you were truly worried, you would’ve asked if Josh was okay before you started yelling at me. But no, you just wanted to blame someone, and as always, that someone is me.”He opened his mouth to res

Chapter: More Than a FriendI hesitated at Alex’s front door, adjusting my coat before finally knocking. It wasn’t like I hadn’t been here before, but tonight felt different. Maybe it was because I was finally getting some normalcy after the chaos of the past few days, or maybe it was because I knew deep down that Alex had always been my safe place. The door swung open, revealing Daniel’s grinning face. “Mira!” he said, stepping aside to let me in. “Alex couldn’t stop talking about you. It’s starting to get annoying.”I rolled my eyes with a laugh. “Oh really? I find that hard to believe.”Daniel smirked. “Trust me, if I had a dollar for every time he mentioned your name, I’d be richer than him by now.”I chuckled, stepping further into the house. The familiar warmth of Alex’s home wrapped around me like a blanket, and just as I was about to respond, Josh ran in, holding a PS5 controller.“Mom! Uncle Daniel and I are about to start a match,” he announced excitedly.I smiled at him. “Y

I am sick and tired of your incompetence. How have you still not been able to get Mira back?”Aaron sighed, rubbing his temples. “I’m trying, okay?”“Trying?” Caroline scoffed. “Trying isn’t good enough! Chapter: A Stab in the BackI was home with Josh when my secretary, Helen, walked in, her face pale and hands gripping her tablet so tightly I thought she might crack the screen. I immediately tensed. Whatever she was about to say, it wasn’t good.“Josh, honey,” I said gently. “Why don’t you go upstairs for a bit?”Josh hesitated, glancing between Helen and me. “Is something wrong?”“No, sweetheart, just business.” I forced a small smile. “I’ll call you when we’re done, okay?”Josh nodded reluctantly, grabbed his things, and walked upstairs. The moment I saw her hesitant expression, I knew I wasn’t going to like what she had to say.“Ma’am, the board of directors has requested a meeting with you.”I exhaled sharply, already irritated. The board never called me unless they had something critical to say—usually to criticize or question my decisions. My makeup was light but flawless, highlighting my best features. My hair? Perfect waves that framed my face just right.I picked up my phone and took a few pictures for Instagram. It had been a while since I posted something for myself and not business-related. I smiled at the photos, satisfied.“Mom, you actually look hot,” Josh teased from my doorway, arms crossed with a smug grin.I rolled my eyes, laughing. “Oh, so I never look hot?”He shook his head dramatically. “Not this hot. Josh was sitting on my bed, playing a game on his tablet, but as soon as he saw me, he smirked. “What was that about?” he asked, his voice filled with amusement. I groaned and covered my face. “Nothing. Nothing at all.” Josh chuckled. “You and Uncle Alex were about to kiss.” I gasped. “Excuse me?” I dropped my hands and looked at him. “We were not.” He rolled his eyes. “Mom, I’m not a kid. I saw it.” I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, but he dodged it, laughing. “Go to sleep, Josh.” He snickered. “Whatever you say, Mom.” Before I could throw another pillow at him, I heard a knock on my door. I froze. Josh raised an eyebrow. “You gonna get that, or should I?” I slowly walked to the door and peeped through the peephole. My stomach did a little flip when I saw Alex standing there, wavi
