Chapter 7: Cold-hearted

The man I’ve loved for ten years is telling me he’s moving in with someone else, after trying to have sex with me less than an hour ago.

“It’d be best if you didn’t come around my place while she’s there,” Emeric adds.

I let my gaze drift out the window, beyond which an expanse of city lights glow against the evening’s indigo sky. The view from up here really is exquisite. But I can’t enjoy it right now.

Emeric clears his throat, asking for my attention.

I drag my eyes back to meet his. “Good for you,” I say, my voice flat and emotionless.

His expression changes in a small but distinct way; I watch as he starts getting irritated, his eyes darkening and narrowing.

How did he expect me to respond? What am I supposed to say after he tries to fuck me and then announces he’s moving in with his new mate?

A server comes by and addresses “Mr. Garvalle” directly. I’m completely ignored as Emeric orders for the both of us.

“Are you sure we can’t take your jacket, sir?”
