Chapter 16.1: Wicked Fantasy

I really thought Emeric would leave me alone this time. But his people just keep coming after me.

“It’s Anna from AtCap,” the front desk receptionist says. “She says it’s urgent.”

I thank my colleague politely and stare at the blinking green light on the desk phone. Line one is on hold.

I want to talk to Anna about as much as I want to talk to Emeric. I already ignored her calls and texts over the past few days while I was taking some time off.

Now she’s calling my office as well? That I can’t ignore.

I press the button to pick the line. “Anna?”

“Miss Thornhill,” she answers quietly, “I’m so sorry to bother you, but I need to ask you a few things.”

I’m surprised at the hesitance in her voice. But then I think about her being on her own with Emeric for the past few weeks. It must be taking a toll on her.

Not everyone is equipped to deal with his intensity.

Maybe only those blinded by hopeless love for him.

“Fine,” I tell Anna. “If I answer your questions, will you stop call
