Nicole's POV

I felt baffled about what was happening. Even though I never had a good relationship with Smith and he never cared about me, the fact that I wasn't his daughter broke me.

I had long expected his affection, especially since my mother always paid attention to me and said that he was just too busy with his work, but he never did what she said every time I asked, and I felt terrible about what he did.

He would gaze lovingly at my mom, give kisses and hugs, and then lose interest when his attention turned to me.
