Come to think of it - Ava would've been perfecfly happy just to sit and talk with Rowan that night. All she came there for was to look at him (which was still creepy) and her punishment for that was giving birth at 19, miserable marriage and a decade of shaming and shuning by everybody...

well, Emma had a decade to recover from that so now she does act like a lunatic for no reason but back then, yes, she was totally justified and a real victim of a situation.

I'm not seeing how marrying her fixed anything. He willingly walked them into a decade of misery because he had a "well I'm leaving here with something" mentality after his preferred first option left
