Chapter 64

Jason stood up as I approached the table. He wore a navy shirt tucked into dark jeans, A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. It was the same damn smirk he always wore—the one that made me want to scream and punch him at the same time. My pulse quickened despite my best efforts to stay calm.

“Damn,” he said, his eyes dragging over me slowly. “You look incredible.”

I kept my expression neutral, but I noticed the way his gaze lingered. His eyes washed over me like he was trying to memorize every detail like he hadn’t expected this. I forced my voice to remain steady.

“Thanks. You don’t look bad yourself,” I replied, though my heart was kicking hard in my chest.

“I don’t look as good as you, though.” He stepped closer, pulling out a chair for me. “Are you sure this is a lunch and not a date? ‘Cause if it is, I’m underdressed.”

I sat down, pretending I hadn’t heard what he just said.

Jason returned to his seat, his eyes still fixed on me.

What happened to all that fire, Andrea?”I blinked, unsure how to answer. My throat felt like sandpaper, the words stuck somewhere between fear and confusion. I wasn’t prepared for this part of the plan. I was so confident nothing could go wrong. My skin crawled. The wire taped beneath my blouse suddenly felt like it was burning into me. I wrapped my arms around myself instinctively, eyes flashing around the restaurant. There were only a few people scattered across tables. No one was paying attention. No one saw what was about to go wrong.Jason’s voice dropped low. “Come on, Andrea. Let’s take this off. It’s ridiculous.”He reached forward, fingers brushing the edge of my collar like he owned me. Like he could just touch and take and do as he pleased.“No,” I snapped, my voice cracking. I stood up

I sat back in the cushioned chair on my balcony, legs stretched out, eyes locked on nothing in particular. The city lights blinked in the distance like.I took another drag, letting the bitter smoke fill my lungs before exhaling with a low grunt.“Damn,” I muttered, jaw tightening. “That lunch almost ruined everything.”If Claire hadn’t told me Andrea was wearing a wire, by now I’d be all over the headlines. Andrea and Jake would be sipping wine, laughing over my downfall. That would’ve been a massive loss for me.I flicked the ash off the end of the cigar, leaning forward with my elbows on my knees. My fingers twitched slightly.“She thought she could outsmart me,” I said under my breath.I shook my head.“But Jason, you should have known,” I muttered to myself. “She called all sweet and calm, asking to meet up. Chapter 74 The car ride to Jason’s office felt longer than it was. The city buzzed outside the window—horns blaring, people rushing by, oblivious to the storm brewing inside me. I just sat in silence. After Jake reassured me everything would turn out fine, neither of us said another word. The silence between us wasn’t awkward—it was focused, tense. Heavy. Jason’s building finally came into view, and my heart skipped. This was it. As we pulled into the underground parking lot and the car came to a stop, Jake turned to me. “Let’s go. It’s time,” he said calmly. I nodded. My fingers curled around the door handle, slick with sweat. Damn it, Andrea. Get it together. I stepped out of the car, lifted my chin, straightened my shoulders, and walked to Jake, my heels tapping with each step. Together, we headed toward the elevator. The ride-up felt like a slow climb to judgment. Each floor we passed added to the weight in my chest. Jake stood beside me, his expression unreadable. He was

And even when I dozed off, my dreams still had me face-to-face with Jason in his office, rehearsing the confrontation over and over again.I pushed myself upright, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. As I sat there, blinking against the early light, my eyes caught the soft glow of my phone screen on the nightstand. I reached for it, thumbing through my messages lazily. That’s when I saw it—the last message from the anonymous sender. It hit me. There hadn’t been any new messages since the accident in Seattle. Had they given up tormenting me? Or… if it was Jason all along, had he decided to end his little hide-and-seek game?My thumb hovered over the screen.
