Chapter 2

"You can go."

 Luke said this to Miller and Warry, who were standing in front of him.

 After the two men left, Luke's face darkened significantly.

 Leaning back in the leather chair, his cold eyes darkened.

 Luke didn't believe that Dexie had truly accepted the divorce. How was it possible that someone who had firmly refused to divorce the day before, resolved the marriage in just one day and accepted the divorce? He thought.

 Luke sarcastically scoffed and ignored the divorce papers that Miller had brought.

 After suppressing the inexplicable frustration he felt, Luke searched for the official documents on the table and glanced through them. However, he couldn't register a single word he read.

 "Mrs. Huxley Dawson, are you leaving?"

 The maid asked when she saw Dexie coming down the stairs with her luggage.

 Everyone in the Huxley Dawson family knew about the strained relationship between

 Dexie and Luke. In addition, some members of the extended Huxley Dawson family even knew that Luke's marriage to Dexie was forced by the old Mr. Huxley Dawson, the head of the Huxley Dawson family.

 Now that the old Mr. Huxley Dawson had passed away, Luke had proposed to divorce Dexie.

 How would Dexie be happy, especially since she loved Luke wholeheartedly to where she would give her life for him?

 Remembering that the lawyer had come to the couple's house to deliver the divorce papers to Dexie in front of all the servants, Winston couldn't help but look at Dexie sympathetically.

 Many rumors had spread that Dexie was nothing more than a substitute for Luke's ex-girlfriend and it could be true.

 "No, I'm moving out."

Dexie smiled at Winston and said, "Thank you for taking care of me for the past year."

Dexie was not someone hard to please and only cared about matters related to Luke.

 "Are you really going to divorce Mr. Huxley Dawson?"

 Dexienodded gently with a smile. Suppressing the sharp pain in her heart, she left.

 After taking two steps forward, Dexie seemed to remember something and halted. Turning back, she looked at Winston.

 "Oh, please have someone remove the Malus from the garden."

 "Eh? This..."Winston frowned. “But, Mrs. Huxley Dawson, you planted them..."

 "Remove them. Luke doesn't like them."

 As they were getting divorced, Dexie wanted to leave without a trace. And there was no need to leave anything behind to bother Luke.

 After that, Dexie left the mansion without looking back.

 When Luke returned home, he saw an excavator in the yard, and the gardeners were removing the Malus. His face darkened instantly.

Since they got married, Luke had either stayed out late or returned home in the early hours of the morning. It was the first time he had returned home early. Why were his behaviors so unpredictable?

 Although Winston was confused, she did not investigate further and hurriedly asked the staff to stop their work.

 Luke climbed the stairs unhappily. Upon opening the door, he was greeted with an empty room.

 He rarely came home. Even if he came home late, Dexie would usually sit and wait for him in the bedroom. If she had fallen asleep, she would wake up to greet him and ask about his day happily.

 As such, Luke was unused to the quiet and empty room. Suddenly, he felt an inexplicable sense of anxiety. Luke loosened his tie and threw it aside as he looked around the empty room.

 Although there was no major change, Luke felt that something was different.

 More than half of the books on the shelves had disappeared.

 Opening the closet that was still full of clothes, he could not find a single piece of clothing that belonged to Jolene.

 Luke frowned, refusing to believe that Dexie had moved out after accepting the divorce.

 "Was she trying to play hard to get?" As soon as he thought of this, Luke's face darkened, and his frown deepened.

 Although he firmly believed that Dexie would never divorce him so easily, the anxiety and panic he felt never diminished.

 After Dexie left the house she shared with Luke for the past year, she moved to an apartment she owned in the city.

 Although she had not lived in the apartment for long, she had specially hired someone to clean it daily.

 After setting her luggage aside, Dexie took out her phone and called someone.

 As soon as the call connected, a hoarse voice was heard from the other end of the line. The person had just woken up.

 "Dexie, I just dreamt about you, and you called me. Great minds think alike." Ignoring the man's words, Dexie said, "There's something I need you to investigate. Once you've done that, order the evidence and send it to me."

 Dexie then clearly explained what she needed the man to investigate.

 After hanging up, Dexie closed her eyes and felt a sudden chill.

 Dexie woke up early the next day. After freshening up, she brought some necessary documents and drove to the Civil Affairs Office.

 The Civil Affairs Office was open at this hour, and there were many people who had come down to complete their marriage and divorce procedures.

 Dexiestood at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Office and waited patiently for an hour, but Luke never showed up.

 As time passed, Dexie grew increasingly impatient.

 She had tried calling Luke, but he did not answer. Similarly, when she tried reaching Warry, no one picked up.
