Meanwhile, the search for Athena was proving futile, but Travon wouldn't give up, her scent lingered and so he followed it, out of the palace walls into the deepest and darkest part of the woods, with his guards struggling to keep up with him.

Suddenly the scent disappeared with the cool forest breeze and the forest became till, broken by the crunch of leaves under their feet. The air shifted, something seemed off and Travon and his men could sense it.

“I sense strangers, rogues!” He growled. Before they could react, a trio of rogues appeared from the shadows, their eyes furiously glowed in the darkness and their mouths foamed.

Immediately, one of them attacked Travon while the rest went for his men. Travon immediately shifted, these low-lives were no match for him. As he wrestled with all his strength, Athena scent returned once again, distracting him.

With one powerful strike, the rogue sent Travon tumbling down the hill. His head swam, his limbs weakened as Athena’s scent grew stronger.

Frantically, he searched for the source of the scent, only to spot something that made his heart pound in his chest.

“No.” he murmured as he got closer, his gut twisting with dread. It was a Athena’s clothes, ripped and drenched in crimson red blood.

---

Athena was running through the woods when she heard a crunch behind her. She paused and turned, holding her breath and praying it wasn’t rogues. Just then, out of the shadows, a figure emerged, she watched in horror as it came to sight, it was William.

“Hello Luna.” He sneered.

Athena’s eyes widened in horror as she took off, but she was no match for the Beta and so he caught up with her. William grabbed her arm, spun her to face him and then sent a lethal blow to her abdomen. Athena fell to her knees, coughed, retched and threw up blood. But William wasn’t done yet.

He dragged her up, pinned her to a tree and held her neck.

“I didn’t think you’d take your duties seriously, getting pregnant!” He said through his gritted teeth “You should have just ended like your father!” He spat while Athena struggled to free herself from his grip. He released her and once again she took off.

William scoffed, “Lets play cat and mouse, shall we?”

He followed her. Athena kept running, looking over her shoulders. She wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize when her leg got caught in a root and just like that, she tripped and fell.

“Fuck!” she swore, her ankle hurt, she struggled to the back of a tree and that’s when she realized she was bleeding from her leg. Quickly, she tied it with a cloth.

Meanwhile, the Beta followed her blood trail and found her.

“Mm, not so good at this game ,huh, Athena?” He crouched down to her level.

“Stay the fuck away from me, you psycho!” She retorted, her heart racing with fear and tears streaming down her face.

Williams scoffed, then without a word, he ripped off the clothes from her leg.

“W-What are you doing--Fuck!!!” Athena screamed as he dug a claw into the wound. The wound spluttered and the pain increase, she was sweating, panting and gasping for air.

“I didn’t want to have to do this myself, those stupid elders should have ended your pathetic life, along side with your father.” He corked his head.

In the pain, her eyes widened in surprise, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Oh yes, Athena…” He said with an evil glint in his eyes. “The Nightshade elders...Murdered your father--”

“Fuck you!” She screamed and kicked him in the crouch with her good leg, buying her a little bit of time to get away from him.

Athena hopped away with all her strength and a trail of blood following behind her, only to end up at a cliff. The cold breeze slapped her face, beneath her feet were wild waves crashing against the rock. She turned and found William charging toward her. There’s no place to run, 'this is the end.' she thought as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Please don’t kill me.” She found herself begging in between sobs, “Just let me go and I’ll never come back here, no one will hear of me again…Please.”

But all her pleas fell on deaf ears as William stepped closer to her. “I wish I could believe you, Athena…I really do.” He whispered in her ears. Her body trembled with fear.

"But I can't." He continued. “Long live the Luna.” and with that, he pushed her off the cliff, watching her fall till the ocean swallowed her.

He returned to back of the trees, took the ripped clothed and threw it down a hill, “Rest in pieces, Luna.”

FIVE YEARS LATER “I’d like to know the purpose of this meeting, Elder Thorne.” Travon said, his voice firm, but laced with a hint of annoyance. He was seated at the head of the council table, flanked by three elders, his mother and William Steele. The air was thick with tension, but it was the usual atmosphere of their meetings ever since Athena’s death. Elder Thorne cleared his throat, his eyes locking on to Travon’s as he began. “Alpha Travon, as you know, it’s been five years since the Luna's passing. The pack is growing restless, and your lack of a mate is becoming a concern. So we called this meeting today to propose a way out.” “...Well then, proceed.” Travon said, his tone curt and expression neutral. “We’ve been deliberating among ourselves and we came to a conclusion that you should be married to Aria, the Beta’s daughter.” Travon’s gaze narrowed, his jaw clenched. “I don’t see why this is necessary. Aria is like a sibling to me.” Elder Cedric chimed in, his voice enthus

I also heard the Alpha is letting Aria handle the pack’s match making and mate assignments, and she’s already causing tension among some of the families.” she laughed. “I’m telling you, she’s got him wrapped arou

Travon sat in the meeting room, surrounded with his mother and the elders, making deliberations on how to handle Athena’s return. However, his mind wandered, clouded with thoughts of Athena. It had been two days since she interrupted his marriage ceremony, but he couldn’t shake off her scent, which had seemingly imprinted itself on his mind. He was growing restless, wanting to see her, wanting answers to his numerous questions, wanting to know how and why. Without another thought, he slammed his hands against the table, sending a wave of silence across the room. He stood up, his eyes fixed on the door, and stormed out. The Sacred Quarters, situated on the estate grounds, served as both a confinement zone and a purification quarters. Travon took hasty strides, his men hurrying behind him, until they reached the quarters, heavily guarded by Epsilons and female elders who catered to Athena's needs around the clock. The elders quickly reinforced their guard by standing in front of the

Travon's room was thick with tension as Kaius paced, his eyes narrowed in concern. "What exactly were you thinking?" he asked, his voice laced with frustration. Travon sighed, rubbing his temples. "I wasn't thinking, Kaius. I just couldn't resist the mate bond. You wouldn't understand since you haven't experienced it." His eyes dropped. Kaius scoffed, "Trust me, brother, I understand much more deeply than you can imagine." A hint of pain flickered in his eyes, but he quickly masked it. Travon's gaze snapped up, curiosity sparking. "What do you mean?" Kaius waved his hand dismissively. "Later. For now, what's your plan?" Travon's jaw clenched. "We wait. The elders say Athena earns visitation rights after seven days. In the meantime, put a trusted maid to watch and report back to you. I don't trust those stuck-up elders." His lip curled in disgust. "And Aria? What about her?" Kaius asked, his tone concerned.
