I decided to sneak home!

Brooklyn's POV:

"I..."

After I hesitated for a moment, I took it to Hale. In fact, even if Hale did tear up the invitation and the letter, I wouldn't change my mind to go back. I couldn't let Hale know about it. Or, he would try to stop me.

As soon as I took it out, Hale couldn't wait to grab it, throw the invitation on the table, tear the envelope directly and take the letter out. After a while, he suddenly read it out loud, "This letter is to sincerely invite you and Hale to come to Moore's Alpha enthronement ceremony. We have also invited Alpha Devin of Aries pack, Alpha Roland of Capricornus pack, and..."

He shook the letter as if he was shaking something that was extremely distasteful but stuck to his hand. He mocked at me, "I can't believe that... these people are specifically mentioned in this invitation...does your father plan to help you reelect mate?"

"No, Hale, allow me to explain, please." I was afraid to see his current expression as if I had done something wrong to him. "Dad's letter said that those people are also interested in the paintings. So...maybe they can help our gallery..."

"I don't care about those laymen's fucking help!" Hale roared and slammed the letter on the ground, "Those people can't even tell the colors apart! Don't tell me that they know about painting! They only follow the trend and buy those popular and disgusting paintings. My paintings will be defiled!"

"But...if they are willing to buy your paintings, it will help us out of the financial dilemma."

"Wait a minute." Hale suddenly calmed down again.

He couldn't control his temper. Sometimes, he would be grumpy and suddenly he would calm down. But this time, it was like the calm before the storm made me feel fearful.

"So...you're going to tell me that you still want to go home for that ceremony?"

"No, that's not what I meant." I felt my whole body trembling. But I had to hold on. I couldn't reveal my plan.

"But your eyes tell me that you want to go back!"

Hale said grimly and then laughed even louder.

At this moment, he was like a mad artist laughing loudly and walking slowly toward me.

"Such a good sister...you'd rather cheat on your husband for a half-brother. You don't even want the family, do you?"

His words were horrible that I hurriedly explained, "No, I won't! I promise!"

"Well, based on what you just said... you still want to go back and seduce the other pack's Alpha?"

Hale's mouth was right next to my ear. His voice was soft each word caused me to tremble slightly. And his hand was still on my neck touching my veins slowly.

This should be a romantic scene. But I was trembling violently. I found that I even couldn't make a sound now. And I almost cried out.

"No, I'm your mate. How could I seduce another man!"

"Because you're slutty."

He continued to whisper next to my ear. And the people next to me would have thought that he was saying something sweet.

But every word he said made me feel scared.

"You're a slutty bitch! I couldn't satisfy you, right?"

"I'm not...and I didn't have that kind of thought!" I sobbed uncontrollably.

But he laughed even more happily, "If so, don't go to Cacer pack, okay?"

He was trying to play a trick to lure me. He was forcing me to agree to his demands!

I suddenly realized his purpose and immediately calmed down, "Okay, I promise... I won't go. Believe me!"

"But your eyes tell me that you want!"

"No, that's not true!"

I didn't understand why Hale could know my thoughts.  I had already said that I didn't want to go.

But Hale still didn't believe me. He thought that I would attend that ceremony.

The smile immediately disappeared from Hale's face and was replaced by a scowl. His hands immediately tightened, just like the chains, making it difficult for me to breathe.

"How dare you! You even disobey my orders!"

He actually ignored my screams, growled, lifted my skirt, and tore my clothes!

"I won't allow you to seduce another man! Never!"

"No! You can't do this, Hale! You can't do this to me!"

I was not a whore. I was his wife! How could he treat me so rudely and roughly?

I couldn't take it anymore. So I pushed him away with all my strength, cried, and slapped him hard, "Stop it!"

In the next moment...

Hale and I both froze in place.

We had been together for such a long time. I had never refused his commands, needless to say, I hit him. He even took several steps back covering his face in disbelief.

I knew that he would be very angry when he realized what happened just now. Perhaps, he would irrationally rush up and grab my neck. He would be so angry that I challenged his authority so boldly.

For him, I was a slave. And he was my master.

The slave was not allowed to challenge the master!

So I had to figure out one way before he hurt me.

I decided to change what I had said to him. And since he was sure that I wanted to go back and I also wanted to do so, I just admitted it directly.

"Hale, you can't stop me from going back to Cacer pack! Before I went home, I met Robin, the Alpha of the Gemini pack. And he had already agreed with it! You have no right to stop the decision that two pack's Alphas have agreed!"

Actually, I lied to him! I didn't even meet Robin before I went home.

But if I hadn't lied to him, I was not sure I could go out of this place alive.

Hale finally realized what happened just now. His grim gaze showed that he wanted to beat me with hatred and tear me to pieces. But luckily, he believed it. Even though he was furious, he still just scratched his head angrily and walked around the spot.

"Good...that's great...you've learned to make up your own mind! You're a good wife!"

"I just want to go home to see my family members." Even though I was trembling with fear, I tried to hold it back and made my plea, "You can stay here. But I need to go back!"

"Okay, no problem..." He suddenly smiled, like a thoughtful husband. But his eyes were full of sinister.

He pulled me roughly, went to the garage, and set a locator into the driver's seat. Then, he threw a car key at me.

"Have a safe journey, my dear wife."

He agreed to let me go back but under his surveillance!

"You're violating my freedom. And it's not right!" I said to him loudly.

"I was just worried that my dear wife would be in danger on the road because you haven't driven for such a long time." Hale actually took my hand with an innocent expression.

"I love you so much, Brooklyn, I can't allow anyone to hurt you, so...promise me...you will answer my calls anytime, okay?"

This man was acting! He was playing a role of a good husband. Actually, he was warning me that I couldn't turn off my phone and miss his calls. Otherwise, he would find me as fast as he could and take me back!

When I looked at his smug expression, I couldn't help but tremble with anger. But I couldn't do anything but get into the car, bury my head in my palm, and cry loudly.

I didn't know what did I do. Why the Moon Goddess would punish me? I just wanted to have a happy family.  And I was willing to give up everything I had, including my life.

But what I got...was only threats, suppression, surveillance, and imprisonment. Even if I tried to improve the current situation, remember all of Hale's preferences, hide my true thoughts, try to please him, and become more thoughtful and gentle, nothing changed...

He would never be satisfied. He still disgusted me.

I couldn't feel any "warmth" from this family. I wanted to run away! I did!

"This man is a bastard! I want to transform and bite him to death!"

In my head, a voice suddenly appeared.

It was the voice of Editha, the werewolf who had awaHaleed inside me at the age of 16. She said so with a clear and indifferent tone.

I could feel that she was so angry. My hands almost transformed into sharp claws. And my two sharp teeth slowly lengthened.
