Anger is a wind that blows out the lamp of the mind by Robert Green

Irene's POV

Waking up to meet an unfamiliar gray room. On instinct, I hurried and sat on the bed I was on. The duvet wrapped around me and cocooned my body like a mother bird would her child. I took a survey of the room and it reeked of testosterone. My eyes continued their scan till they fell on a male figure halfway across the room. He looked uncomfortable as his large frame was barely hanging on the sofa. He was snoring too, full-blown snores that could wake up anyone left him and that's when I giggled.

Brown eyes stared at me and that was when I noticed how good-looking he was. He had that early morning look all guys had. First confusion for the first three seconds and then full awareness of his surroundings. It was cute the way he rubbed his eyes, trying to get the foggy image out of them.

"Why are you giggling?" His raspy voice asked as his face furrowed in confusion when I giggled again. I gasped as his morning voice was out of this world. Unknown to me, I was making a puddle in my panties. Add his voice to his Greek-god look and he was a twelve out of ten.

I sighed, staring with my hands on my chin. I knew I had a silly look on my face but I didn't mind as I tapped my cheeks slowly with my fingers. He then gave me a crept outlook and rose to his feet, strode towards the windows, and opened the blinds. Rays of sunlight escaped into my eyes and that was when my head started aching, no, scratch that, my head began pounding like I had smashed it against a wall repeatedly.

He noticed my discomfort as I massaged my blazing forehead with my palm. He sighed and slipped out the door, returning a minute later with some painkillers.

"Here," he handed them to me along with a glass of water.  The tasteless fluid hit my tongue and I greedy drank it all along with the pills. I didn't notice before how thirsty I was. Slowly, I dropped the glass on the bedside table and brought my hands back to myself. I began fidgeting when he continued to stare and me, not moving an inch as silence rained down in the room. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

No words were spoken between us but I guessed he understood my silent question when I gazed back and forth between him and the bed. My thoughts were running wild as I thought about different scenarios of how I ended up here.

"No, we didn't have sex," he said bluntly and went back to his sofa. My eyes turned saucers maybe even bigger. That wasn't my silent question.

"That wasn't my question," I voiced my exact thoughts. I was fully clothed and knew nothing of that manner occurred. He rose his brows in confusion, beckoning me to go on.

"I want to know how I got here."

"Oh! That." He fell silent for a second before he continued, "We met at a bar last night where you told me about your messed up relationship which was kind of stupid by the way," he held up his phone without a care in the world. He looked and acted like a business person.

"How could you not know your partner rolled the other way?" He continued, slicing through my heart with each word but I couldn't stop him. It felt like a stab to my chest as he continued. My lips couldn't move but my ears were wide open, listening and digesting his poisonous words.

"That's just stupid," he added mockingly, insulting my intellect which caused my fury to go up the ladder. I couldn't contain my anger and in minutes, I exploded.

"Who do you think you are?" I asked, raising my voice, about bringing down the roof as my temper grew. My eyes turned slit as I narrowed my eyes. He was stunned by my outburst but I wasn't finished. I was going to give him a piece of my mind. He just messed with the wrong person. Irene Ocean doesn't take crap from anyone. I may seem quiet but insults were something I didn't tolerate no matter the situation.

"You have no right to talk to me in that manner, you have no idea what I've been through these past months that this happened so don't talk to me like you know everything," I didn't know when I approached him and had my fingers up his face. He was so stunned, he hadn't said anything.

"I could be the stupidest person in the world which I'm not, and that still would not give you the right to say it to my face," I knew I was red. My anger went up the scale in minutes. Something I had been controlling for some time but this guy had me almost crazy. If it wasn't for his good looks, I would have scratched his face and left some claw marks.

I glared at him when he tried to defend himself and he shut right up after. I leaned over him to grab the bag he had placed behind the sofa. A quick search around the room and I was with all my stuff. I threw one last glare at him as I stormed out of his apartment with my dignity intact.

He was so full of himself. Feeling on top of the world like he was better than the rest of us. What did he think of himself? A god? The nerve of the guy. With how hot he was, I would have thought he was smart but how wrong I was. I don't know why the pretty ones always have to be so stupid. And to think I was beginning to crush on him. I take it all back. Can't crush on a moron.

Eugene Ari Darian's POV It's been a while since my mother's last visit. I was expecting her to show up a lot sooner but I guess I hurt her feelings during our last meet but I wasn't ashamed to admit I wasn't sorry. She just doesn't know when to stop. I've always imagined her getting on the nerves of the gods over at Mount Olympus. But then again, they were all annoying over there, at least that's what history says. I can never be too sure but seeing my mother, I'd agree with them. Three weeks ago, I had that incident with the coffee lady. I didn't get the chance to catch her name. I have no idea what got into me, I never imagined my first real human encounter to happen that way. It never occurred to me that my blunt honesty could hurt her feelings. I felt really stupid for a guy who has lived hundreds of years. I was supposed to be mature and open. I had to accept not everyone was like me. If only I realized thi

Eugene Ari Darian's POV After the long event, we exchanged numbers. I was so nervous to ask for it, not wanting to seem too rude or forward like earlier but she took the hint and just gave it to me, it reduced my anxiety level a lot. It felt like my moves had no effect on her like they did other women and it was a mystery to me. "So what do you do?" "I'm a psychology lecturer. I once worked as a therapist but it didn't work out." "What happened?" "I-I-" I paused in my step and she did too. She turned to take a look at me before walking again. "It's a long story, one for another day." Though I knew the reason she was being silent was because of what happened the other day when I was extremely judgemental. I regretted it immediately but I couldn't possibly explain it to her or expect her to understand. "Wher

Eugene Ari Darian's POV My resumé was slightly out of date. My results were from eons ago when Mother forced me to attend school to learn the mortal ways of life. It was new to me like it was to the little mortals then but I got used to it. Learning about my god heritage made me look down on the inferior humans. They were beneath me but when puberty hit, I had to get close to them, or at least their girls. I was back at the bar, ordering a bottle of scotch, totally minding my business when an unknown lady snuck up to me, wrapping her hands around my arms. I slowly turned my head to her, hands still on my glass. I hadn't taken a sip yet. "You look lonely," she tried being seductive but failed miserably. She had an embarrassed blush on before turning her faze to the floor and out of my peripheral vision, a couple of girls facepalmed themselves. It occurred to me they were her friends and if

Irene's POV I felt really stupid. I cried in front of a man, twice. To say I was humiliated would be an understatement. Recalling how he treated me caused me to cringe internally. Luckily, my flatmate was too busy on her phone to notice my sadness. She spoke to me without even taking her eyes off her phone. "You are back early, how did the date go?" Her fingers tapped away on her screen and several pinging sounded soon followed, signaling a notification arrival. "The food was great and drove me home after." "That's it?" She finally looked up at me. I had thankfully reapplied my makeup outside. It wasn't much but it covered the evidence of my crying, red, puffy eyes. I shrugged her question. I didn't feel like answering or even talking about it. I didn't want to humiliate myself any further. "Wait, so he didn't even
