HANNAH'S POV
..."How could you do this, Hannah?" God's voice spoke to me with anger in his tone.I was on my knees, with my hands over my face, sorrowfully weeping for sinning against my creator.
"Forgive me, Father, I didn't mean to defy you. I don't know what happened to me while I was on Earth. I felt so many things that I had never felt before and I couldn't stop myself." I told Him, trying to get Him to understand.
"If you had fallen for a human, I would have understood that. You wouldn't be the first of your brothers and sisters to fornicate with Man but, a demon? That is unforgivable." He said to me in anger.
I ran to His feet and begged Him to forgive me but He couldn't even look at me. I tried to convince Him that Garin had a good heart but that wasn't why He was angry with me. I disobeyed and would have to face the consequences. Father could be very lenient on Man whenever they sinned against Him but, He was a lot stricter with Angels.
"I'm sorry, my child but there must be punishment for what you have done!" Father said and walked closer to me.
He bent down to look at me and stroked my head. I could tell that He wasn't happy about what He was planning to do to me, but He had to do it anyway.
GARIN'S POV
..."How dare you fraternize with your direct opposite? An angel! A freaking angel!" Father yelled at me while the Tormentor beat me with a whip made of nails.I was chained up to four pillars, suspended from a pit of fire by my hands and feet while Sagarus, The Tormentor hovered over me with his whip that he occasionally beat me with under father's instructions.
"What was going through your head at the time? Did you think I would approve? Did you think I would give you my blessings and watch the two of you get married and live happily ever after? You're a demon, Garin! The only future you have involves carrying out my wishes and sending souls to hell until the day the Earth runs out of souls." Father yelled at me while Sagarus continued whipping.
"I don't want that future anymore, Father! I want to live on the earth as a man, I want my freedom." I demanded from the devil, which angered him greatly.
He got up from his throne, flew up to me, and grabbed my chin. His nails dug in my face as he looked at me with abhorrence.
"I knew I shouldn't have sent you to the Earth. You're just two thousand years old and you weren't ready for such a task. You weren't mature enough to walk in human flesh and resist the temptations that come with it." Father said.
He turned around and contemplated my punishment. He thought really hard about how to punish me severely for my insolence.
"Normally, I would chain you up and let you burn for all eternity but that would be mercy. You will face something far worse. Do you think being human is a good thing? You're so wrong. You were there for just a few days and didn't spend enough time there to witness the horrors and suffering that take place on earth. As your punishment for having feelings for an angel, I will cast you to the Earth to live the rest of your life there, as a Man." Father said to me.
"Thank you, father!" I replied, happy that he was granting me my wish.
"You should be begging for mercy instead of thanking me," Father said and I didn't understand what he meant.
AUTHORS POV
...Lucifer broke the chains off of Garin and he crashed into the hot ground. He telepathically lifted him and stood in front of him."You are no longer my child. Today, I strip you of your immortality." The Devil said and phased his hand through Garin's chest, ripped out his immortal fire and threw it in a pit.
"I strip you of your powers!" He said again and removed Garin's powers out of him.
"I strip you of your fertility so your days on earth will be darkened, without the joy of bearing a child." He said and pulled out Garin's fertility from between his crotch.
"I strip you of your horns and your wings, as you are no longer a demon." He said again and ripped off Garin's horns out of his head and his wings, right off his back.
It was extremely painful but Garin stayed strong and refused to scream. Lucifer grabbed Garin by the neck and threw him into a gateway that would take him to earth.
Meanwhile, God was doing the same thing to Hannah, although not as violent as Lucifer was to Garin.
The other angels could only watch as their sister was disowned by their father.
"The worst thing that can happen to an angel is being cast out of heaven. Hannah, I take away your powers, your immortality, and your wings." God said and Hannah's brightness dimmed as her power drained out of her.
Her wings withered away and her white hair became ebony. Hannah shed her final tear as an angel and then God threw her out of heaven.
She plummeted to the earth in a ball of fire and crashed into the ground. She picked herself up and immediately realized that all her clothes had been burned off so she quickly looked for something to cover herself with. That was when a pair of hands wrapped a blanket around her. She looked up and saw Garin beside her.
"Garin?" She asked, surprised to see him.
"Come on! Let's go." He said to her and held her hand and they walked off together to begin their new lives on earth.
Hannah looked up at the heavens and whispered to God.
"Thank you!"
Because she knew that he sent her exactly where Garin was so they could be together in the little time they had on Earth
**********Hannah and Garin spent the remainder of their lives together on Earth. They got married, traveled the world, experienced the ups and downs of life, but their joy never faltered and their happiness was abundant. The lack of children in their lives made them a bit dissatisfied but they were happy nonetheless.
God watched them from heaven for all those years with indifference. He was still angry that Hannah chose a demon over her family in heaven but He still loved her and was happy that she was happy at least. The Devil, on the other hand, was enraged that Garin's life on Earth was peaceful and free of suffering. He had expected that Garin would go through all the traumatic experiences that Man faces during their lifetime and was upset to see that it wasn't as bad as he had hoped.
Garin and Hannah were married for eighty years of their lives and they were a good eighty years. They occasionally reminisced about their former lives as an angel and a demon, they remembered their brothers and sisters, and how it felt to be immortal but, if they were given the choice, they would not have traded their new lives for their old ones.
On their deathbeds, the lovers lay side by side, hand-in-hand, face to face, with their hearts and souls connected. That was when they made the promise to always be together, even after they die.
"Hannah, my love?" Garin said to her.
"Yes, Garin?" She answered.
"Let's never go back. Let's never leave each other or this world." He said.
"But how? We're mortals now. We are going to die and you'll go back to hell and I'll go back to heaven." Hannah said sadly.
"I don't want to leave you, ever!" Garin proclaimed.
"I don't want to leave you either," Hannah replied as a tear streamed down her eye.
Their grip on their hands tightened and Garin leaned in to give her one final kiss and they waited for Death to claim them. They fell asleep but never woke again. It was the perfect end to their love story except it wasn't the end, it was only the beginning.
The devil had been waiting anxiously for Garin's soul to return to hell for eternal torment as he was enraged that his attempt to punish Garin by casting him to earth was unsuccessful. He stood by the gates of hell and waited with The Tormentor beside him but Garin never came.
God stood by heaven's entrance, waiting for Hannah's spirit but she never came as well. He immediately realized that she wasn't going to come because her spirit had remained tethered to Earth by a metaphorical chain made by the love and bond between her and Garin. They would remain on the earth forever, reincarnated with the sole purpose of finding each other in their new lives.
The lovers' bond was so true and powerful that their souls held on to each other and even the finality of death couldn't quell their forbidden love, couldn't end it, couldn't separate it. As soon as they died, their souls left their bodies but instead of crossing over to heaven or hell, they remained on earth and were reborn.
For centuries, Hannah and Garin were reborn as different people with parents, siblings, friends but they had no recollection of their lives before their first reincarnation. Each time, their lives were always different but one thing remained constant; they always met each other and fell in love. Whenever they met, it wasn't always in the best of circumstances as they were always hostile with each other, just like their first meeting but, it usually always took a week or two before they warmed up to each other and slowly but surely fell in love with each other once again.
When love is real, it always finds a way and they had found a way to be together forever and although they couldn't remember their former lives, it didn't dwindle the strength of their love. They were connected forever, their destinies intertwined, their souls joined in eternal matrimony beyond the physical; A love eternal.
This didn't make the Devil happy at all. He couldn't stand seeing them always reunited. He tried to come between them several times but he never succeeded. He even went as far as to kill Garin a couple of times but it didn't matter as he was always reborn and their love cycle continued.
After multiple centuries, The Devil decided to try to prevent their reunion once again. He deduced that if he successfully prevented Hannah and Garin from meeting and falling in love in their new life, that would be enough to break the cycle of their love chain which would in turn untether Garin's soul off the earth and return him to hell. Before the Devil could put his plan in motion, he decided to kill two birds with one stone so he paid God a visit.
He wasn't received with open arms but God permitted him entry into heaven. He approached his Father and spoke to him.
"Hello, Father! You look good. Have you done something new with your hair?" Satan asked with mischief in his eyes.
"Save your compliments, Lucifer. Why are you here?" God asked.
"Can't a son pay a visit to his father?" Lucifer asked.
"You are not my son anymore, Lucifer. Say why you're here or leave." God demanded.
"I'm here with a proposition for you, a deal of some sort, a chance for you to finally get rid of me and save all of humanity," Lucifer said.
"What do you mean?" God asked.
"I'm sure that you're aware that my son and your daughter remain tethered to the Earth. For some reason, they are defying the natural laws of life and death and we cannot let this continue any longer. When a person dies, they either go to you or they come to me, not remain on Earth for eternity." Lucifer said.
"Get to the point!"
"The point is that it should not be so. Their union can't be allowed to continue and I know you agree with me. I propose that we make a bet. You versus me to see who can end their love chain."
"And what are the stakes?" God asked.
"Our kingdoms; Heaven and Hell, and the Earth as well. Whoever wins will dominate all three."
God laughed at Lucifer's proposition because he knew it was just a scheme he had cooked up but He decided to play the devil's game. He didn't hate Hannah or Garin but he couldn't deny that Lucifer was right. After death comes judgment and they have avoided it for multiple lifetimes. It had to end.
"I accept your bet, but on one condition," God said.
"And what condition is that?"
"You must accept my rules!"
November 21, 2021...Josh woke up late the next morning with a hangover because of all the drinks he had last night during his best friend's bachelor party. Andrew and Josh had been best friends since they were little boys and it was truly remarkable that Andrew was finally getting married to his girlfriend of five years and he asked Josh to be his best man. Their two other friends, Frank and Chris were still asleep in the corner of the room and so was Andrew, all of them knocked out due to severe intoxication from last night's partying.Josh got up from the floor and clumsily walked over to the fridge to grab a bottle of water. He took a long sip and looked around the apartment in confusion, the hangover disorienting him. He took a look at his watch and noticed that the time was nine-thirty in the morning and the wedding was supposed to take place in an hour. He dropped his water bottle on the floor and ran over to wake up Andrew and the guys."Guys, guys, wake up. We overslept!"
846ADFrom above, the landscape upon which the little cottage sat was covered with so much green and little specks of different colours made by the beautiful flowers that sprouted from the earth and it all looked like a painting made by the swirling brush of a passionate Picasso, collaborated by the brush of an inspired Michelangelo.Hannah was returning from the river with a basket of laundry in her hands. She was close to the house and could see Garin in the distance, bare-bodied with an axe in his hands, chopping some logs of wood. He was beautiful, she thought. The way his tanned skin glistened under the sun and the calmness at which the sweat dripped from his forehead as he swung his axe was hypnotic for Hannah to watch. She began to pick up the pace so she could get to him faster as she had spent a few hours at the river but it felt like she had been apart from him for days.“Hannah,” A familiar voice called out to her from behind a tree. She stopped in her tracks and looked at
It had been four hours since Josh and Isabelle arrived at the bar and they were having drinks and enjoying the evening in each other’s company. They sat by the bar which wasn’t packed but was filled with a few people. There was just something seamless about the way they spoke to each other; it was like they’d known each other for years. They both felt comfortable with each other and the sexual tension between them could be felt all around the bar. “The drinks they serve here are great. How did you find this place?” Josh asked. “A friend brought me here a few days ago to celebrate my promotion.” She replied. “Oh, I see,” Josh added. There was a momentary silence between them and Josh decided to break it with a compliment. “Are you wearing contacts?” He asked, staring into her deep blue eyes. “No, I’m not.” “You have amazing eyes. They look too good to be real.” He said with a smirk. “That’s a compliment, right?” She asked with a grin. “Yes, it was.” “Good! I was just making s
They reached Isabelle's house and she opened up the door and invited Josh inside. He walked in and looked around while she was activating her alarm system."Your company really spared no expense for this place. It's so nice and spacious and..." Josh was saying about her house when Isabelle suddenly grabbed him and buried her lips into his. Neither of them could cage in their urges anymore. It was almost like they needed to sleep with each other if they were to survive the night. It felt... required. Josh scooped her up and slammed her into the wall, causing her to moan in what sounded to him like pain. "I'm sorry. Did I hurt you?" He asked. "Just shut up and kiss me," Isabelle replied eagerly. Pain was the last thing she was feeling at that moment. Josh continued brandishing her with kisses and didn't hold back. He kissed her neck and down to her cleavage. She removed the rubber band that held up her hair and the wave of ebony dropped onto his face, caressing his brain with the s
As the elevator went up to the top floor, Zarif kept looking at Isabelle over his shoulders like he was planning to attack her or something. Her gaze was directed forward so she didn’t notice his red eyes on her.He put his hand out, facing it towards her bag and used his powers to take out the flash drive in the bag. “I have a job interview here today and I’m really excited.” He began saying to distract her from noticing what he was doing. “Oh, really?” she asked. “Yeah,” He replied. “Well, I hope you get the job.” She said with a smile. “Thank you so much,” Zarif replied as the flash drive floated into his hand. As soon as he grabbed it, the colour of the drive changed from purple to maroon and he used his powers to put it back into her handbag a second before the elevator bell dinged and the door slid open. They both came out and before going their separate ways, Isabelle turned to Zarif. “Good luck with your interview,” She told him. He only smiled, nodded and walked away
851 A.D Hannah sat in the fields in the evening picking berries and putting them in her basket. She was also deep in thought about the day she and Garin first arrived on earth. They’d been so lost and confused because they weren’t sure what to do next. They didn’t have their powers for the first time since their creation and they were in an unfamiliar place, out casted and afraid, alone in an alien world. They may have known what the Earth was like but they had no idea how to live in it without their powers but, eventually, they adapted and they learned. If it wasn’t for Garin, they probably wouldn’t have made it. He was strong and resourceful. He made friends with some of the men in the area where they found themselves and quickly learned how to work with tools. He and Hannah built their home from scratch, all by themselves and had lived peacefully ever since. It was, up until that point, a perfect life. Hannah slipped out of the memory and realized that the sun was starting to se
For the first week after getting the job as Josh’s assistant, Jennifer worked her hardest to impress him so she could have the job permanently. She was always aware of his schedule and never let anything slip by her as she was completely thorough and efficient. She wanted to impress him and seal the position and she was doing a pretty good job and was proving to be the best assistant Josh had ever had, maybe even better than her aunt.On a sunny Monday afternoon, Josh sat in his office looking over the designs for a new collection of wine bottles when Jennifer stepped in.“Mr Clinton?” She called him.“Yes, Jennifer,” He looked at her and answered.“There’s a woman outside who wants to see you but she doesn’t have an appointment.” She said.“Did she say who she was?” “Yes, Isabelle Gilmour.” “Isabelle? Why is she here?” Josh asked himself with a smile on his face. This was the first time she had visited him at work and he was wondering what the occasion was.“Should I send her in, si
About a week later, Josh and Isabelle had grown a lot closer and they spent a lot of their free time with each other. The love chain was edging closer to being fully restored between their souls which meant that God and the Devil needed to move fast with their plans to break the chain otherwise neither of them would be able to sever the bond....Jennifer sat in her seat with her elbow on her desk and her palm below her chin, staring longingly at her boss in his office through the transparent wall. Her other hand was twirling her hair into little curls as she imagined what it would be like to be with him. She was completely focused on him and was unconsciously biting her lips as she stared at him. She was in awe of him, of how dedicated he was to his business. He was the boss but he always showed up to work every single day. She was in awe of his hardworking nature, his grace and elegance, his kind eyes, and his handsome smile. She was crushing hard and couldn't help herself. Sh
Jennifer went back to her desk and her hands were shaking from anger. She had just calmed herself only a few moments ago and now, she was even angrier than before because the message she had just read from Isabelle could have meant anything. HEY, BABE! CAN’T WAIT FOR TONIGHT – “What’s tonight?” Jennifer asked herself. She began to imagine all sorts of things about what tonight could be like. Were they going to have sex? She wondered. Even if they were going to have sex, it wouldn’t be the first time and Jennifer knew it so why was she so bothered about it? What if it wasn’t sex? What if it was something worse like an announcement…of their engagement? She thought. He proposed to her and tonight, they were going to tell their families. “No, that can’t be it. They just got back together so it can’t be that,” She muttered to herself. She was so lost in her maniacal thoughts that she didn’t notice when Josh walked past her and back into his office. She finally snapped out of it when sh
865 A.D ...A few years passed after Hannah and Garin made it to the peninsula after the storm that almost claimed their lives and the new life they had built there was shaping up to be the best they had ever had since they began living on Earth. When they first arrived, they were strangers in this new land. They didn’t know anyone and didn’t have anything except their ship and the clothes on their back. The peninsula was located at the coast of the North Pacific and it was a beautiful piece of land, surrounded by nature, rich and fertile and inhabited by a group of settlers who had begun their community there for more than two centuries since their ancestors discovered the land. They were a progressive people and they called themselves “Amans” and their land was called “Amania” which was derived from their native language and when translated to English meant “Paradise”. Hannah and Garin were foreigners in this new land and they were welcome with open arms and love. English was
“The bet has to change, Lucifer,” God told him.“What do you mean the bet has to change? Change to what?” Lucifer asked.“You cannot tamper with man’s free will the same way I can’t. Josh and Isabelle know the truth and despite that, they are willing to continue their relationship. That simply means the love chain cannot be broken, maybe it can be with the next reincarnation but not with them,” God told him.“Then, what do we bet on or are you going to call everything off?” Lucifer asked, thinking his Father would use this opportunity to call off the bet entirely. The thought did cross God’s mind. He had put everything on the line before and had risked it all; his kingdom, his angels, his creation, everything. Now, he had a chance to make sure they wouldn’t be at risk anymore but the idea of getting rid of Lucifer’s hold on humanity was too good to miss out on.Since creation, Lucifer had dedicated his entire existence to poisoning the minds of humans, turning them against God and lea
Isabelle slowly backed away from Gentel who was coming at her with the worst of intentions. She scanned around for something she could use to defend herself but there was nothing in sight. “Don’t even bother, you weakling! Nothing can save you from me,” Gentel said menacingly and moved closer to her.“What do you want from me?” Isabelle asked with shaky breaths, fear overwhelming her senses. “I want you to suffer, the same way I have because of you and lover boy over there,” The demon looked over at Josh who was still reeling in pain on the ground. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Isabelle said to her. “Don’t worry, you’re about to find out,” Gentel raised her dagger. Josh got a hold of himself again and looked up to see that Gentel was about to hurt Isabelle so he mustered up the strength to stand. He saw an iron rod on the sidewalk and picked it up. He ran up behind the demon and ran the rod into the back of her head with so much force, it became all mangled up. “It s
Several minutes after Josh passed out on the wheel, he slowly woke up and found himself sitting in a slightly dark room. He was a bit woozy and couldn’t see quite clearly but he looked around and his vision slowly became clearer. He wasn’t sure where he was or what was happening and then, he remembered that he was in the car. He instinctively raised his hands to grab the steering wheel but there was no steering wheel in front of him. Instead, there was a table and sitting on the other side of that table was Isabelle and she looked just as confused and clueless as Josh did.“Josh? What are you doing in my room? How did you get in here and why is there a table in the middle of my room?” Isabelle asked. She was also slightly woozy and didn’t understand what was happening. The last thing she remembered was going to bed and now this was happening! She was so confused.“I don’t know how I got here. One minute I was driving home from work and the next, I wound up here,” Josh told her, “Maybe
862 A.D . . . The heat from the scorching sun burned the surface of the ocean’s waters, sending heat from every direction and it sizzled the skin of both Hannah and Garin as their ship floated across the still water in the middle of the ocean. It had been an entire week since they set sail off the Island and in all that time, they were yet to find refuge or a new place to settle. It was almost like all the land in the world didn’t exist anymore as all they could see on the horizon was an endless body of water. The fact that they were still alive was a miracle because within the one week since they got on the ocean, they were bombarded by burning heat, freezing cold and powerful storms that threatened to end their lives. Their food and resources ran out quick and they had to hunt for fish in the ocean to stay fed. Their resilience and will to live made it possible for them to survive but they wouldn’t last out here forever and desperately needed a way to get out of their predicam
Isabelle found herself in the nexus of her mind but she had no idea that that was where she was because rather than looking like an endless void or a different dimension, she was inside a small cottage and the house felt like home to her although she had never been in this house in her entire life. “Isabelle? Isabelle, can you hear me?” Dr Felicia asked.“Yes, I can,” Isabelle answered as she walked around inside the cottage. “Where are you right now?” The doctor asked. “I’m in a wooden house but I don’t know whose house this is,” She answered. “Okay, now listen to me. I want you to walk around the house until you find the front door. When you do, I want you to step out of it and go outside. Do you understand?” She asked. “Yes, I understand,” Isabelle answered and began looking for the door. Her mind was in the house but her physical body was still in Doctor Felicia’s office, lying on her couch. She was fully hypnotized and was on a journey of self-discovery even though it didn’
“Ok, Isabelle. This is what we’re going to do. I’m going to need you to lay back on the couch and look up, alright?” Doctor Felicia Greene instructed.Isabelle did as the doctor had asked. She lay on the couch and faced up and as much as she tried to hide her nervousness from the doctor, she couldn’t.“It’s going to be alright, Isabelle. I’ve done this a hundred times before so you don’t have to worry,” She assured her.“Ok, doc,” Isabelle said. But she did worry because she knew how serious this was and was afraid that she could lose herself and have this other part of her completely take over. It wouldn’t exactly be great for her life or her career if she wasn’t herself anymore. And her mother! How would she feel if anything happened to her only child? She was already worried that Isabelle left the house this morning without telling her where she was going, she was worried that Isabelle wasn’t looking too healthy and was also worried about so many other things and adding this to the
Isabelle walked out of the ladies’ room, shaken and terrified about what had just happened to her. She went to her table and immediately Josh saw her, he knew something was wrong.“I want to leave,” Isabelle told him.“What? Why?” Josh asked her.“I need to leave now, Josh. Don’t ask me why. Just…just get me out of here,”“But your mother will…” Josh wanted to protest but he could see that Isabelle was very upset and she was also shaking so he decided to do what she was asking.“Okay, we can go,” He told her.He got up from his seat and put his coat around her because of how much she was shaking. He held her hand and they both walked toward the exit but Josh led her to her mother’s table so he could tell her that they were leaving.“Rita, Isabelle and I have to leave,” He said.“What? Why?” Rita wanted to understand.“I’m all of a sudden not feeling good and she wants to drive me home and make sure I’m alright. I’m really sorry we can’t stay till the end,” Josh apologized.“That’s oka
