Rae’s POV I open my eyes, confused. How did I get here? I can’t remember anything. ‘Serenity, what’s happened?’ I ask my wolf. She doesn’t respond. As a matter of fact, I can barely feel her. ‘Serenity, what’s wrong?’ Still no answer. I can feel my chest tighten in panic. Suddenly, I feel tingles in my hand. Immediately after, I feel a kiss to my forehead. “Shh, baby, it’s okay. You’re okay.” It’s then that I realize that I am crying. “Toby?” I whisper. “Yes, little Luna. You’ll be okay.” “I’m not so sure. I feel as if I’m having a heart attack. What happened?” He hesitates and I flutter my eyes open. “You don’t remember anything?” He asks, softly. “No. Serenity won’t talk to me either.” I admit. He looks at me and I can see tears pool in his eyes. “I almost lost you last night.” He whispers. My eyes widen. “How? Were we attacked?” “No, Raleigh.” He says, anger shining through his pain. “Then I don’t understand.” Why can’t I remember what happened? What happened to my wolf?
Toby’s POVIt’s been a month since Rae and I marked and mated. She looks so beautiful sleeping, her hair splayed out on the pillow. I only wish that she was as happy awake as she looks while asleep. I gently brush my kiss on her cheek, not wanting to wake her up, and head to make a phone call. Although, Rae and I went out shopping, and talking walks around the town, we haven’t really had much fun. I want to change that.On the third ring, Ryan answers, “Yo, Toby, what’s up?” He asks.I roll my eyes at his greeting. “Are you and Erin up for some fun tonight?”“Always, what do you have planned?” He asks, a little more excited than the morning called for. “Go kart racing, paint balling, rock climbing?”I laugh. “No, I don’t think that Rae is ready for all of that yet. How about going to the club?”He takes a minute before he sighs. “Fine. Have no fun. I’ll tell Erin to get a dress for the club. She’ll be excited to finally go.”“You haven’t taken her to the club yet?” I ask, surprised. T
Rae’s POV This place is loud, dark, smells really bad, and swimming with people. It is simply amazing. I can’t even think straight. This is the perfect place to be. I mean dinner was great. It was good to see Erin again. It was good that she wasn’t still upset at me. She even sympathizes with me and seems just as angry at Chris as her brother. It’s a good thing that Toby warned me about the smell before we got here. I was a little prepared. However, these drinks seem to be helping me a little more. I’ve never tasted anything so good. It’s pinkish in color and tastes like spicy fruit. It’s amazing.
Chris’s POV It’s been two months. Two months since she left. Two months since I failed and betrayed her as well as myself. I still don’t have an answer to why I would do what I did. How I could sleep with someone else so easily. I knew that this was coming. I knew that she was going to have to choose. I knew that she might choose both. So why did I become so jealous? I’m an idiot and a fool who doesn’t deserve her. That’s the only answer that I have for myself. So, now, I’m trying to fix the Kingdom. I’ve been busying myself with making sure every citizen is being taken care of, even the ones in the Erondale pack. I even gave up on trying to force them to tell me where Rae is. If she doesn’t come back, it’s my fault. As for the rest of the Kingdom, who don’t know what happened, they think that she is just on a lengthy vacation. I’m going to wait and announce anything until I talk to her. Of course, there are the rumors that she’s left me. No doubt Rachael started them. I guess that
Rae’s POV It’s been a few months now since we left Chris and Erondale behind. Today, we have decided that we want to go back. Serenity is finally talking to me again, my heart feels whole, and she has promised that Chris has not betrayed our bond again. I don’t see how she can promise that when we aren’t even sure if her has another fated. What if that one time was a bond that formed? Serenity snorts. ‘I wouldn’t steer you wrong, sweetie.’ ‘I know. I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m scared.’ ‘I know but every thing is going to work out the way that it’s supposed to be.’ “You ready, little Luna?” Toby asks, coming behind me and wrapping me in his arms. I snuggle against him and he kisses behind my ear. “Mmmm, you smell so good.” I blush, causing him to chuckle, and answer his question. “Yes, I am ready.” “Good, let’s go say our goodbyes.” Erin and her mate, Ryan, stand at the door of our motel waiting. Over the last few months I got my friendship back with Erin. It’s been real good
Rae’s POV I heard the whistle just in time to spin away from the arrow. I feel more than hear Toby running up behind me. ‘Rae, drop.’ He screams in my head. I drop down to the ground and glance up. I gasp as shock hits me. It’s the guys from the bar. The one that was always trying to hit on me. What are they doing here? ‘Hunters, Rae. They’re hunters.’ He says as he goes after one of them. ‘What are hunters?’ ‘They’re the reason that we are almost extinct. Stay down.’ He screams in my head. I want to listen to him but I can’t. Serenity is snarling in my head. There has to be about fifty of them. Before I know what is happening, Serenity pushes forward and I’ve changed into my wolf. She charges towards the ones closest to us. I hear Chris running out as well. I don’t know what he was saying though, as Serenity grabs a hunter by his arm. The sound, of his arm ripping out of his socket, has me retching in the back of my mind. Serenity snorts. ‘It’s us or them, Rae. I would prefe
Chris’s POV I watch her go, my heart breaking inside my chest. There is nothing that I wanted to do more than to help her take Toby to the hospital. When she walked in on Rachael begging me to bed her, I felt my world shatter. I hadn’t told her about Rachael. All the times that I had the chance had flipped in my head. Before I could react, she had run out. Toby ran after her but not before decking me a good one. I deserved it. I stood up and chased after him, only to run into a battle. My blood ran cold. I shouted at the guards inside the palace to go and assist. When Toby went down, and I saw Rae drop the attacker before rushing to Toby, my heart stopped. I glanced up to see that she had no idea they were coming at her. I rushed the guy closest and shot him with an electric bolt out of my hands. I could hear Rae pleading with Toby. I felt him slipping. A surge of anger swelled in my chest as I realized that he might die. The bond that I felt for him was slipping. Strangely enough,
Rae’s Pov It’s been a few hours and Toby hasn’t woken up. The doctor tells me that he will be fine. I don’t want to leave his side but I don’t have a choice. I spent too much energy. There’s blood on my clothes as well. I don’t want to look at it anymore. Mama has come in to sit with me. “Rae, sweetheart. You keep looking down at your shirt. Why don’t you run to my house and change your clothes?” She says. “I don’t want to leave his side, Mama.” “I know that you don’t, honey, but it is necessary. Besides, you are swaying.” “It’s okay, Mama. I’ll just curl up beside Toby and sleep.” “Maybe you should change first, sweetie.” Mama suggests. I nod my head. “Alright, Mama. I’ll run home to shower and change. If he..” I glance at Toby as tears fill my eyes. “If he wakes up, please let him know that I’ll be right back.” “I will, sweetie. It’ll be okay. He’ll understand. I’ll make sure we get him situated so you can climb up with him.” “Thank you, Mama.” I stand up to hug her before
